一.课程说明
1.英语泛读:本课程是英语专业中一种非常重要的语言教学活动,属英语专业实践技能类型,其目的在于通过阅读和分析内容广泛的材料(包括
涉及政治、经济、社会、语言、文学、教育、哲学等方面的名家作品),
培养学生的英语泛读理解能力和提高学生的阅读速度;培养学生细致观
察语言的能力以及假设判断、分析归纳、推理检验等逻辑思维能力;提
高学生的阅读技能,包括细读、略读、查读等能力;扩大学生知识面,
加深学生对社会和人生的理解,提高学生对名篇的分析和欣赏能力、逻
辑思维和独立思考的能力,发展学生英语语言技能,并通过阅读训练帮
助学生扩大词汇量、吸收语言和文化背景知识。

阅读课教学应注重阅读
理解能力和提高阅读速度并重。

教材应选用题材广泛的阅读材料,以便
向学生提供广泛的语言和文化素材,扩大学生的知识面,增强学生的英
语语感和培养学生的阅读兴趣。

三.《英语泛读》教学要求与目的
1.目的:
泛读课的主要目的是通过广泛的阅读来培养学生的阅读能力,所以教学内容要题材广泛,体材多样。

题材既包括社会生活方面的内容,如文学,政治,经济和科技等,也包括与日常生活紧密联系的内容,如家庭、就业等。

体裁既包括记叙文、说明文、散文及新闻报导、传记、评论等类
型,也包括日常生活中常见的各类应用文体。

本课程共设两学年。

总学时为140学时,共6个学分;第一学期16周,
共32课时,第二,三,四学期各18周,各36课时;每学期 1.5学分
2.要求:
1. 学生在学完1年后,应能阅读难度相当于Thirty-Nine Steps(简写
本)的浅显材料以及Reader’s Digest,阅读速度为每分钟70-120个单
词,能理解中心大意,抓住主要情节或论点。

在学完2年之后,学生应能
读懂难度相当于美国Newsweek的国际新闻报道;能读懂难度相当于Sons and Lovers的文学原著。

要求在理解的基础上抓住要点,并能运用正确
观点评价思想内容。

阅读速度为每分钟120-160个单词,理解准确率不低
于70%。

能在5分钟内速读1000词左右,中等难度的文章,掌握文章的
大意。

2. 在学生理解的基础上不断提高快速阅读(Speed /Quick Reading, Timed
Reading under Conditions 也称限时阅读)的技巧。

①略读(Skimming 也称浏览):主要测试学生在规定的时间内(即每分钟
100-120词汇)读完约500词汇,难度适中的文章,目的是要猎取段落中
心大意。

当学生没有时间仔细阅读或想确定是否值得细读(如报纸等)时,就采用此种快速阅读技巧。

②跳读(Scanning,也称查阅,略读):主要测试学生在规定(每分钟100-120
词汇)的时间内,从指定阅读材料(如书刊目录)快速寻找有关特定信息
或事实性信息(factual information)如特定日期,名字或数字等的能力。

③评读(Critical Reading):主要测试学生对所读内容作出判断和评论,
对作者的观点和论证持自己的观点和态度。

四.考核方式和说明
本课程考试的命题,应根据本大纲所规定的考试内容和考核目标来确定考试
范围和考核标准,试卷应该编制地科学合理,既避免过于简单,又要根据考核目标所规定的要求,所选择的材料的难度也应该有难有易,难易度分为四个等级:(1)容易;(2)一般;(3)较难;(4)最难。

大致比例为2:3:3:2。

一般地说,涉及事实性阅读能力的试题较容易,而涉及评判性及鉴赏性
阅读能力的试题较难。

解答试卷的时间长度为120分钟。

方式:评价采用测试性和非测试性两种方式。

非测试性方式指的是课堂观察、学生成绩档案、学生讨论和读书报告。

测试性的方式指的是阶段性和期末的
卷面考试。

测试必须有科学性、客观性和可行性。

不同阶段的测试应有不同的要求。

低年级即基础阶段主要检测学生的事实性阅读理解能力;而高年级阶段则主要检测学生的评判性和鉴赏性阅读能力。

考核目的:学生在学完2年之后应能顺利通过全国英语专业4级统考,在学完4年之后,应能通过全国英语专业8级统考。

测试的目标有以下几个层次:1.字面层次(LITERALLEVEL):学生必须理解篇章中的单词与句子意义。

2.归纳层次(INDUCTIVE LEVEL):学生必须掌握篇章的基本概念,例如篇
章所涉及的话题,有关这话题的细节,以及由这些细节所得出的概括。

):学生必须能够得出结论;做出推论;在3.推论层次(DEDUCTIVE LEVEL
给定的情境中根据所获取的信息或观点进行正确的应用;并能判断篇章的论调。

4.评判性层次(CRITICAL L EVEL):学生必须对篇章的内容进行评判性的鉴赏,它还包括概念与事实的确定性,论据的充分性与相关性以及内在含义
等等。

题型说明:
考试可涉及考核词汇和阅读能力的题型类型。

词汇题型:

阅读理解题型:
Lead deposits, which accumulated in soil and snow during the 1960's
and 70's, were primarily the result of leaded gasoline emissions
originating in the United States. In the twenty years that the Clean Air Act has mandated unleaded gas use in the United States, the lead accumulation world-wide has decreased significantly.
A study published recently in the journal Nature shows that air-borne leaded gas emissions from the United States were the leading contributor to the high concentration of lead in the snow i n Greenland. The new study is a result of the continued research led by Dr. Charles Boutron, an expert on the impact of heavy metals on the environment
at the National Center for Scientific Research in France. A study by Dr. Boutron published in 1991 showed that lead levels in arctic snow were declining.
In his new study, Dr. Boutron found the ratios of the different forms of lead in the leaded gasoline used in the United States were different from the ratios of European, Asian and Canadian gasoline and thus
enabled scientists to differentiate the lead sources. The dominant
lead ratio found in Greenland snow m atched that found in gasoline from the United States.
In a study published in the journal Ambio, scientists found that lead levels in soil in the North-eastern United States had decreased
markedly since the introduction of unleaded gasoline.
Many s cientists had believed that the lead would stay in soil and snow for a longer period.
The authors of the Ambio study examined samples of the upper layers
of soil taken from the same sites of 30 forest floors in New E ngland, New York and Pennsylvania in 1980 and in 1990.
The forest environment processed and redistributed the lead faster
than the scientists had expected.
Scientists say both studies demonstrate that certain parts of the
ecosystem respond rapidly to reductions in atmospheric pollution,
but that these findings should not be used as a license to pollute.

五. 教学方法建议
1.本课程是泛读和快速阅读的混合型课程。

泛读是一门进行大量阅读实践的课程,应该突出语言信息"大"而"泛"的特点,课内不宜详细讲解,不要成为变相的精读课或半精读课。

对必须讲解的内容应以启发式教学为
主,而不应该以教师为中心,以讲代读。

讲解应有利于培养学生的阅读
能力和概括能力。

应该强调本课程培养的是阅读能力,注重的是对整体
的理解,而不应拘泥于那些与整体理解无关宏旨的细节。

2.帮助学生克服畏难情绪,克服等待和依赖教师讲解的消极做法,抓紧课外自学时间,按教学布置完成各阶段的阅读任务。

鼓励学生独立阅读,
独立思考。

阅读过程中遇到问题或难点尽可能少查词典。

3.在阅读速度的训练中,阅读难度与阅读量的安排应遵循循序渐进的原则,做到逐步强化提高。

4.泛读课基本上用英语进行教学,尽量少用汉语。

要求学生在阅读时不要使用英汉词典;需要查词典时,也应尽可使用英英词典。

5.充分利用面授辅导课的时间,努力培养和提高学生的阅读理解能力。

面授辅导课可以从介绍阅读技巧入手,重点引导学生使用正确的阅读方法,并适当地讲解语言难点,然后进行及时的相关阅读训练。

训练可限定时
间,以集中学生注意力,培养学生的阅读意识。

另外,在阅读训练时,
应鼓励学生充分利用他们在阅读汉语时的经验,以帮助学生培养良好的
英语阅读技能和习惯,不断提高阅读能力。

总之,教学方法直接关系到学生各方面能力的培养和提高。

课堂教学应以
学生为主、教师为主导,改变过去那种以教师为中心的教学模式。

注重培
养学生的学习能力和研究能力。

在教学中要多开展以任务为中心的、形式
多样的教学活动。

在加强基础训练的同时,采取启发式、讨论式、发现式
和研究式的教学方法,充分调动学生学习的积极性,激发学生的学习动机,最大限度的让学生参与学习的全过程。

引导学生主动积极地利用现有图书
资料和网络去获取信息,并使学生在运用知识的过程中培养各种能力。


师应因材施教,积极探索新的教学方法。

《英语泛读I-IV》课在一,二年级基础阶段,除少数班级采用多媒体辅助
教学外,大部分班级都是进行常规课堂教学活动。

教学活动注重吧课堂教
学与学生的课外学习结合起来。

课外学习应在教师的指导下,有目的、有
计划地进行。

课外学习应该形式多样,例如课外阅读,包括报刊杂志,小
说,写读书报告,办学生杂志等。

六.关于教材与学习参考书的建议
阅读课所使用的教材,应该符合下述要求:①具有较高的思想性,科学性,趣味性。

②题材广泛,体裁多样。

③具有丰富的文化内涵。

教材选自英美
出版物,散文应出自名家。

选材应突出两方文化内涵。

本课程现用教材为:
一年级:刘乃银,《英语泛读教程I-II》,北京:高等教育出版社,2001年。

二年级:刘乃银,《英语泛读教程III-IV》,北京:高等教育出版社,2001年。

建议学习参考书:
一年级:简易读物
二年级:英语原著小说、报刊杂志。
