Shadow plays in north China's Shanxi province are similar to those in Shanxi in terms of its artistic feature and crafting skill. Palace officials and many wealthy large family are all proud of inviting the teacher engraving filmmakers and building private shadow classes . In the rural town, large or small shadow classes abounded. A village or a city has twenty or thirty shadow classes is not surprising. Whether holidays, festive harvest, pray worship, marriage banquet, or birthday childbirth, all set up the stage to sing shadow play. Even the drama play through the night, or even more than a half months, a few shadow classes can appear on the one temple fair singing shadow plays, its bustling state can be imagined.

Origion
Two thousand years ago, shadow play originated during the Han Dynasty when one of the concubines of Emperor Wu of Han Ms. Li dead from an illness.The Emperor was devastated,ignored all day affairs.
After the Song Dynasty to the Qing, shadow play has been very popular, loved by the court and folk throughout all of the country, and combined with the country folk art, language, customs, each with local characteristics to develop into a movie art.
Minister Shao Weng day out,met a child holding a doll play, shadow reflected in lifelike. Shao Weng heart of a dynamic, cotton silk cut Ms. Li images, painted colors and fitted in the hands and feet of the wood. At night enclosed side curtain,lighted candles,invited emperor respectfully sitting tent to watch.Using an oil lamp they made her shadow move,bringing her back to life. Emperor looked greatly pleased after reading it and fell in love with it.

As far as we know,Chinese shadow play has already very matured at least in the Northern Song Dynasty. When traditional Chinese opera performances not yet developed, Song movie has been able to perform complete, vivid stories, some of the record books such as 《DongJingMengHuaLu》(《东京梦华录》), 《MengLiangLu》(《梦粱录》),《 the old martial arts thing i》(《武 林旧事》 ),etc. In addition to a number of famous artists, the Southern Song Dynasty, Hangzhou, and even had movie organization "painted leather club"appeared.
