What Is Success

Good morning, everyone. Today, I feel honored to share with you a speech about success. Before my speech, I want to ask you a question,”What is success?” Maybe, you will answer me the symbol of success is wealth, reputation, position and so on. For example, those people who are in the world-class richest, such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Of course, they are successful. But today, I want to tell you other kind of success.

In the boundless sea, there is an old fisherman Santiago who was sitting a little sailing boat, and seemed so small under the setting in the slim. But the old man has caught one fish since 84 days ago. Many people called him”loser”. In this situation, maybe he could give up and come back. However, he did not break up. In order to catch a fish, he held the line for 2 day-and-night, got over the difficulties mentally and physically, he caught a big fish. Good times do not last long, groups of sharks came to his trophy by tracing its scent. The old fisherman defeated all the sharks but lost the big fish. Does he failed? The answer is “No”. Though he did not get the big fish, but he never said die, and fight with troubles he met. There is a sentence that has lingered in my mind from

this story,”A man is not made for defeat, a man can be destroyed but not defeated.” So I think he is successful, because he has a brave heart, in the face of challenges, rather than yield, avoid and give up.

Reflect on our real life, there are many ordinary people who are working hard for their dream. Though they are known for us, and they can not achieve their goals. In my view, they are successful man when they insist on their dream. Success is not distant, all of us can make it.
