Subject: Somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico!

Hello again,

We’re o n holiday! My family won a prize—tickets for a round-world-trip on the Freedom of the Seas! Can you believe it? This is one of the biggest cruise ships in the world –it’s huge! It’s as long as 37 buses and can carry more than 4,000 passengers. That’s a lo t of people!

You know that I like to be very active, so at first I thought this cruise was going to be a little boring…I was so wrong! The ship has an ice-skating rink, an outdoor climbing wall(more than 13 metres high), two swimming pools, a water park and even a boxing ring. But best of all… the Flowrider! It’s a surfing attraction at the top of the ship. I tried it yesterday but I kept falling! I must try again this afternoon.

Mom and Dad were also pretty impressed by the shopping mall on the ship. You’v e really got to see this wonderful ship—it’s truly spectacular. I’ll write again when I get home(Sunday) and tell you more about the cruise.

Bye!

Anne

Building a house costs quite a lot of money. Suppose you plan to build a house, your first step will be to find a right piece of land. Your choice will depend on many different things. You will probably try to find a sunny place, with pleasant surroundings near shops and bus stops, not too far from your friends and the place where you work.

Next you will find a good builder, and together with the builder you will work out

a plan. The builder will draw the plan. It will show the number of rooms, their position and size, and other parts, which must be noticed, such as windows, doors, and electric outlets. The builder will work out how much money is needed to build your house .He will work out the cost of the wood, bricks, the glass, and everything else that must be used in building the house. Later on, when he starts to build, this estimate (预算) must be corrected and revised (修订). His estimate is based on existing prices, but prices of such things may change, and many other things may happen between the time when he makes the estimate and the time when he builds the house.

When the builder gives his estimate, you may wish to change your plan. (You may also wish to change your builder, if his estimate is too high!) You may find that the house you wanted at first costs too much or that you can spend a little more and add something to your plan. The builder's estimate depends on the plan, but the final plan depends on the builder's estimate.

A group of old classmates, who have succeeded in their work, got together to visit their old university professor. The conversation soon turned to complaining about the stress in work and in life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and many cups---china, plastic, glass, some plain looking, some expensive, some lovely. The professor told them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said, ―Can you notice all the nice looking expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones? While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.‖

―What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you went for the best cups and were eyeing each other’s cups.‖

―Now think about this: life is the coffee, and th e jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tool to hold and contain life, and do not change the quality of life. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the
