In Europe, Europe Day is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe. There are two separate designations of Europe Day: 5 May for the Council(委员会) of Europe, and 9 May for the European Union (EU). For the EU, the day is also known as Schuman Day, commemorating the historical declaration by French foreign minister Robert Schuman.
Geography
Most of the European Union is on the European continent. The EU covers less than half of the territory of Europe, significant parts of the continent especially in the East (e.g. European Russia, Ukraine, Belarus) and smaller parts in the North and Center are not part of the EU. The member states of the EU have land borders with 19 other nations. The EU's member states cover an area of 4,423,147 square kilometres
