Unit3 Inventors and inventions

Reading THE PROBLEMS OF THE SNAKES

课时安排:1学时(40分钟)一.Teaching aims

1. Knowledge and skills(知识和能力目标)

1). To know the meanings of the following new words and phrases in this period:

patent(专利),courtyard(院子),distinguish(区别;辨别),merciful(宽大的;仁慈的;慈悲的),approach(方法,办法),……

2).To develop the students’reading ability by grasping the key words and central

sentences quickly.

3).To develop the students’speaking ability by talking about inventors and

inventions.

2.Emotion,attitude and value(情感态度目标)

1).To stimulate students to protect animals and love science.

2).To develop students’ sense of cooperative learning.

4. Teaching strategies aims (教学策略目标):

1). To make the students learn how to do with the information and obtain the

reading skill by listening 、reading and the group discussion

2). To consolidate the contents of the text by asking the students to retell the text

in their own words.

二、Important and difficult points(教学重难点)

1).To enable the students to conclude the stages every inventor must go through.

2). Develop students' ability to make a summary of the text using some key\new

words

三、Teaching design(教学设计)

Step1Lead-in

Ask the students “Four Great Inventions” in China.(compass, printing, gunpowder, paper-making.)

Step2 Listening

Ask the students to listen to the tape and answer two simply questions

1).What was the mother upset about?

2). Did the write solve the problem finally?

Do you know how she solve the problem?(设疑)

(设计意图:听,是语言学习中不可或缺的部分。该环节的主要目的是把读和听结合起来,培养学生快速捕捉信息的同时,锻炼学生的听力)

Step3 While reading

Get the students to comprehend the passage quickly and accurately and meanwhile help the students form a good habit of reading.

1.Fast- reading:

What’s the main idea of the text?(机动)

(设计意图:培养学生的略读技巧,找出文章的主要脉络,主旨大意)

2. careful-reading

Attention: when reading, give some tips to students(设计意图:针对各段细节设置问题,培养学生查找文章细节的能力)

Part 1(Par1) the discovery of the problem of the snakes

Q1, why was the write happy to help her mother?

Part 2(Par2) the research on the approaches to solve the problem

Q2 , Did she use powders to kill the snakes? What did she do ?

Part3(par3) what were the possible approaches she think of ?

Q3, what were the three possible approaches she thought of?

Part 3(Par4—6) the attempts to catch the snakes

Q4,How many times did she attempt to catch the snakes?

Part4.(par7—8) the requirements of getting a patent

(将问题设计成细节题以选择形式完成)

Step 7 Retelling

Ask students try to retell the text in their own words.Give them some key words on the blackboard: snakes ,courtyard.do some research ,the habits, approaches,the last,three times , the third , successful , apply for, Patent

(设计意图:培养学生口语及用英语思维的能力并形成自己的交际策略)

Discussion: Ask students if they know the stages every inventor must go through before they can have their invention approve。Encourage them to draw a conclusion. Suggested answers:1.Finding a problem 2.Doing research 3.Thinking of a creative solution 4.Testing solution 5.Deciding on the invention 6.Applying for a patent (设计意图:通过师生互动,激活主题,培养学生概括总结能力)

Step 8 Homework

1. Write a short summary of then text .

2. Try to find more information of inventions and talk about them.
