Dialogue

Step I Ask two students to read the following dialogue.

A: Hello! May I speak to Mary?

B: Hello! This is Mary speaking. Who’s that?

A: This is Li Ming. I want to go on a trip to Beijing. Do you want to

go with me?

B: That’s great. I’d like to. When do we leave for Beijing?

A: We leave at 2 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon.

B: And when do we arrive in Beijing?

A: We will arrive at Beijing Railway Station on Wednesday morning.

B: OK. I will meet you at the school gate at 1 p.m. on Tuesday

afternoon.

A: See you then.

B: See you.

Step II Speaking

T: Good. Thank you! From the dialogue, we know that Li Ming will

go on a trip t o…

S: Beijing!

T: Do you want to go to Beijing? Why or why not?

(Help the students to answer these questions from the following

aspects:

Affirmative: 1. have fun; 2. learn a lot that can not be found in the

text book; 3. make other friends…

Negative: 1. Be ijing is too far away; 2. too young to go …)

T: If you can go to Beijing, who do you want to take with you?

Why?

S: I may go with my parents. They can take care of me, and share the

happiness together.

S: I may go with my friends. We have the same interest and can have

a lot of fun.

S: I may go with my little brother. I can learn to take care of him and

learn a lot.

T: Good! Wish you a good trip to Beijing.

Step III Analyzing

Get the students to scan the dialogue to look for the expressions

about making phone calls in English.

T: Li Ming wants to go to Beijng, do you know who does he want to

take to Beijng? Now, look through the text and show me the answer.

S: Mary.

T: That’s it! A nd how can Li Ming invite her?

S: Make a phone call.

T: Good! Please read the dialogue silently and try to find out ways to

make a phone call.

After the students finish reading, summarize the following patterns.

Step IV Paraphrasing

Help the students understand the phrases leave for and arrive at / in.

Draw the school gate and Beijing on the blackboard and let the

student come to the front of the classroom to act with you. The two
