Unit one The tales of unexplained

Period 7 Project: T elling about an unexplained mystery Teaching aims:

1.Encourage Ss to use what they have learnt in this unit to complete the project.

2.Help Ss discuss what mystery they want to write a story about, and collect as

much information as they can..

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Lead in

Show some pictures about yetis by ppt. Ask students to describe the yetis as more as possible.

Such as : height (tall ) ,figure ( huge ,strong ) appearance : man-like ,monkey-like, half- man and half beast. Big eyes, hands and feet. long arms, huge shoulders. Have much hair or fur …

Step 2 Fast reading

Ask students to listen the tape and find the answers:

Questions for Ss to answer after reading:

1)In which years were Y etis seen?

2)Where have Y etis or similar creatures been seen?

3)What has been reported about Y etis, Bigfoot or the Wild Man of

Shennongjia ?

4)What scientists think of these creatures?

5)Finish reading task on page 2 (English weekly)

Step Two: discussion

Have a discussion about the followings :

Do you believe in the yetis,why or why not ? find out some reported facts from the passage to support your ideas.

Supporting facts from the book :

Step 3 Careful reading

Ask Ss to find the main idea of each paragraph and find the connections between them.

Para 1: Reports about seeing Y etis in the Himalayas for hundreds of years

Para 2: An eyewitness to a Y eti in 1998

Para 3: Another eyewitness who saw Y eti tracks in 2007, which looked like the tracks of Bigfoot in the USA

Para 4: Reports about the Wild Man in Shennongjia and the similarity of Y eti, Bigfoot and the Wild Man in shengnongjia

Para 5: An American scientist’s opinion

Para 6: The hope for the solution of the mystery

Step 4: Language Points
