total population stood at 3.6 million (10/2009). The main nationalities: Han, Hui, Miao, Zhuang, Gaoshan and so on. Religion: Buddhism, Christianity, Islamism, Catholicism.

is situated on the southeast coast of Fujian Province and at the estuary of Jiulong River. It is administered as a sub-provincial city of Fujian province with an area of 1,573.16 square kilometers.
