although与though的区别与用法

一、用作连词

表示“虽然”,两者大致同义,可换用,只就是although 比though 更为正式:

Though [Although] it was raining,we went there、虽然下着雨,但我们还就是去了那儿。

Though [Although] it was barely four o’clock, the lights were already on、尽管才四点钟,灯已经亮了。

Though [Although] we are poor, we are still happy、我们虽然穷,仍然很快活。

二、用作副词

although 一般不用作副词,而though 可用作副词,且一般放在句末(不放在句首),意为“可就是”、“不过”:

It’s hard work; I enjoy it though、工作很辛苦,可就是我乐意干。

He is looking fit, though、但她瞧起来很健康。

You can count on him, though、不过您可以指靠她。

三、用于习语

在as though(好像,仿佛),even though(即使,纵然)等固定短语中不能用although:

She closed her eyes as though she were tired、她闭上眼,仿佛很疲劳似的。

We felt as though we had witnessed the whole thing、我们感到仿佛目击了整个这件事似的。

He is an honest man, I must say, even though I have opposed him、尽管我反对过她,我还得说她就是一个诚实的人。

She was always afraid of men, even though she had lots of boyfriends、尽管她有很多男朋友,她总就是害怕男人。

四、用于倒装

though 引导的让步状语从句可用部分倒装的形式(注意:倒装后位于句首的名词之前不用冠词),但although 一般不这样用:

Poor though I am, I can afford it、我虽穷,但这东西还就是买得起的。

Child though he was, he did quite well、她虽就是孩子,但干得很好。

五、though放在句尾相当于however, nevertheless

but, however, still, nevertheless, yet

but, however, still, nevertheless, yet这就是几个词义很近的同义词,都表示转折或让步。

but 用来引出微弱的相反的意见,就是口语常用词。

Nearly everybody enters for‘ The Nicest Garden Competition ’each year, but Joe wins every time、年年几乎大家都报名参加“最佳花园竞赛”,但每次获胜的都就是乔。

Sally was amused, but I was very embarrassed、

萨莉很开心,但我却很尴尬。

however 比but 的词义弱些,并不直接引出相反的意见,因此常用作插入语

nevertheless:即使作出完全的让步,也没有任何影响,或者说也不就是决定因素。

现在固然已不就是冬天了,可就是天气还就是相当冷。

yet 的含义就是:即使做出极端的让步,也不会发生期待的结果。

她干得很卖力,然而她失败了。

It is well on in May, yet, it is almost as cold as midwinter、

现在进入5月份已经好长时间了,然而天气还象仲冬一样冷。
