If she has an annoying regional accent, uses incorrect grammar, has a limited vocabulary, and if she has an irritatingly sharp piercing voice, sounds whiny or bossy or doesn't articulate her words clearly, it' s an immediate turn-off. This isn't someone who you would hire or proudly introduce to your friends and business associates. This doesn't mean that everyone should try to sound like a professional actor or broadcaster. All of us have qualities unique to our own way of speaking, our individual voiceprintas distinctive as our fingerprints. Our voice is very personal and an important part of our identity. Some natural characteristics of our voice may be very appealing. The idea is to take the voice with which you've beengifted and give it the very best sound that you can. With the right type of practice, by paying attention to the quality of your voice and by knowing how to properly express yourself, you' II almost immediately improve your opportunities in job interviews, social situations, in selling, and in running a meeting or addressing groups of people. Let' s say it again, it all begins with the instrument, your voice. If its sound and quality is flawed and needs improvement, that' s where you start. That' s what everyone hears whether in casual conversation or in making a major speech to a large audience. Pure vowel sounds, articulation, proper breathing, expressive speaking patterns, a pleasing vocal range, naturalness, all thesewill make you get twice the result with half the effort.标题:上有效的美国英语(说一口地内容:在谈到面试时的有效美式英语首先是从个别交谈,并在处理小orlarge团体,最初几秒钟都是确定的您将如何被认为音关键。

“我不记得了”是I forgot,美国人也常常讲成It slipped my mi nd,字面的意义是“它从我头脑中跑掉了” ,也确实是“我不记得了”。

A: May I speak to Jimmy?B: Speaking.A:Jimmy, what are you doing there? Don't you remember we have an appointment at two here in my office?B: I 'm sorry, Paul, it slipped my mind. I 'll be right over.A: 吉米在吗?B: 我确实是。

正确说美语(4).doc

正确说美语(4)现在几点?我们在学校所学的“现在几点?”的英文是What time is it?, 但是在美国却较常使用Do you have the time? 这一说法。

the time 在此含有“手表”的意思,因为不知道对方是否戴着手表,所以向对方询问时间,使用Do you have the time? 要比What time is it? 更合适。

A: Excuse me. Do you have the time?B: Yes. It’s a quarter to ten.A: Thank you.B: You’re welcome.A: 请问现在几点?B: 嗯,差十五分十点。

A: 谢谢。

B: 不客气。

2. How long will the next bus be?下一班车要等多久?“下一班车要等多久?”英语的标准说法应该是How long will it be before the next bus arrives? 只是美国人觉得这样讲,句子太长,很麻烦,所以就简化成How long will the next bus be?——At a bus stop——A: How long will the next bus be?B: About five minutes.A: Really? How often do the buses run on this route?B: Every 10 minutes or so.A: That’s not too bad.——在公共汽车站——A: 下一班车要等多久?B: 大概要等五分钟。

A: 是吗?这条线的公车隔多久一班?B: 大约十分钟就有一班车。

A: 那还好。

3. How long have you been gone?你离开多久了?这句话里有使用How long 和gone这样的单词,常会让人误解对方是在问“去多远的地方?”事实上,这句话是指“你离开多久了?”的意思。

American English and Pronunciation

American English and Pronunciation

Everyday American English-正确说美语(9)

Everyday American English-正确说美语(9)不要误会我。

Don’t get me wrong 和Don’t misunderstand me 的意思相同,差不多上表示“不要误会我。

”类似的讲法还有Don’t take it the wrong way。

A: You don’t trust me?B: Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t say I didn’t trust you. I just w ant you to put up collateral for the loan.A: 你不相信我吗?B: 不误会。

我没讲不相信你,我只只是要求,如果想跟我借钞票的话,一定要有抵押品。

2. Give me a break.饶了我吧。

“饶我一次吧”的英文讲法是Give me a break或Give me a cha nce。

另外,Give me a break 不只用于求情时讲,也常用于当对方过分督促或严格指责时,以求饶的口气讲“你饶了我吧。

”W: I can’t put up with you anymore. I’m sick and tired of y our drinking. I’m divorcing you!H: Don’t do that to me, honey. Give me a break, please!妻子:我受不了你了。

我对你的酗酒差不多厌烦透了。

我要离婚!夫君:不如此,友爱的。

请饶我一次吧!3. I’m positive.我专门确信。

positive原意是“主动的”。

在日常对话中,当表示比sure更有把握时,常讲positive。

A: Can you do it?B: Yes, I can.A: Are you sure?B: I’m positive.A: 那件事你做得到吗?B: 是的,我能够。

A: 你确定吗?B: 我专门确信。

标准美国英语口语

标准美国英语口语

标准美国英语口语Standard American English, also known as General American English, is the standard and most widely used form of American English. It is the accent that is most often heard in the media, and it is the accent that is taught to non-native speakers learning American English. In this document, we will discuss the key features of Standard American English and provide some tips for improving your spoken English. One of the most distinctive features of Standard American English is the pronunciation of certain vowel sounds. For example, the "a" sound in words like "cat" and "bat" is pronounced as a pure vowel, without any hint of a preceding or following sound. Similarly, the "o" sound in words like "hot" and "pot" is pronounced as a pure vowel, without any hint of a preceding or following sound. This contrasts with other varieties of American English, where these vowel sounds may be diphthongized, or pronounced as a combination of two vowel sounds.Another key feature of Standard American English is the pronunciation of the "r" sound. In many varieties of American English, the "r" sound is pronounced as a retroflex approximant, meaning that the tongue is curled back slightly when producing the sound. However, in Standard American English, the "r" sound is pronounced as a postalveolar approximant, meaning that the tongue is raised slightly when producing the sound. In addition to these pronunciation features, Standard American English also has its own set of intonation patterns. For example, in statements, the pitch of the voice generally falls at the end of the sentence. In contrast, in questions, the pitch of the voice generally rises at the end of the sentence. These intonation patterns can have a significant impact on the meaning of a sentence, so it is important to pay attention to them when speaking English. Now that we have discussed some of the key features of Standard American English, let's talk about some tips for improving your spoken English. One of the best ways to improve your spoken English is to practice speaking with native speakers. This will help you become more familiar with the sounds and intonation patterns of Standard AmericanEnglish, and it will also give you the opportunity to receive feedback on your pronunciation and intonation.Another helpful tip for improving your spoken English is to listen to spoken English as much as possible. This can be done by watching American TV shows and movies, listening to American radio programs and podcasts, and even just eavesdropping on conversations in public places. The more you expose yourself to spoken English, the more natural it will start to sound to you.In conclusion, Standard American English is the standard and most widely used form of American English. It is characterized by specific vowel sounds, the pronunciation of the "r" sound, and distinct intonation patterns. By practicing speaking with native speakers and exposing yourself to spoken English as much as possible, you can improve your spoken English and sound more like a native speaker of Standard American English.。

中国人常说Where is the book(这本书在哪儿)?很少有人说What is a book(书是什么)?而美国的小学生就开始问:What is the book?这种Where is the book只是思维的描述阶段。

但是我想连大学生也很难回答What is a book?因为中国传统英语教学模式没有教会学生表达思想的技巧。

第二,学会界定所表达的事物。

如果已经学会界定,但理解还有偏差,那就要训练How to explain things in different ways(用不同的方式解释同一事物)。

一种表达式对方不懂,美国人会寻找另一种表达式最终让对方明白。

因为事物就一个,但表达它的语言符号可能会很多。

这就要多做替换练习。

传统的教学方法也做替换练习,但这种替换不是真替换,只是语言层面的替换,而不是思维层面的替换。

比如,I love you(我爱你)。

按我们教学的替换方法就把you换成her,my mother等,这种替换和小学生练描红没有什么区别。

这种替换没有对智力构成挑战,没有启动思维。

这种替换句子的基本结构没变,我听不懂I love you,肯定也听不懂I love her。

Good morning/afternoon/evening (whichever is appropriate).I am honored to stand before you today to discuss a topic that is close to my heart: the American way of life. As an American citizen, it is important to me to share with you the values, traditions, and perspectives that make up our unique American culture.First and foremost, the American way of life is centered around freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom to pursue happiness are the cornerstones of our society. These freedoms are not just symbolic; they are deeply ingrained in our national identity and are protected by our Constitution. We take great pride in our ability to express ourselves and practice our beliefs without fear of persecution. This freedom allows us to innovate, create, and dream big.Another integral aspect of the American way of life is individualism. Americans often see themselves as independent and self-reliant individuals who are responsible for shaping their own destinies. In our country, success is often measured by personal achievement and hard work. We value ambition, determination, and the entrepreneurial spirit. This mindset is reflected in our society, from the countless start-ups in Silicon Valley to the small business owners on Main Street.Furthermore, equality and diversity are at the core of the American way of life. We believe in the fundamental principle that all people are created equal and should be treated as such. Our country has a rich history of fighting for civil rights, from the abolition of slavery to the women's suffrage movement. Diversity is celebrated and embraced in the United States, as it enriches our society by bringing together different cultures, traditions, and perspectives. The melting pot of America is what makes us strong and resilient.A key component of the American way of life is the pursuit of happiness. We are a nation of dreamers and entrepreneurs, constantly striving to make a better life for ourselves and our families. This pursuit of happiness often translates to pursuing higher education, career advancement, and financial stability. The American Dream, as it is often called, represents the belief that anyone, regardless of their background or social status, can achieve success through hard work and determination.Additionally, the American way of life places great value on community and volunteerism. Americans have a strong sense of civic duty and often contribute their time and resources to help their neighbors and communities. Whether it is donating to a local charity or volunteering at a homeless shelter, Americans understand the importance of giving back and making a positive impact on those around us. This sense of community strengthens the bonds between individuals and instills a sense of pride in our nation. In conclusion, the American way of life is a complex tapestry of values, traditions, and perspectives that shape our society. It is characterized by freedom, individualism, equality, diversity, the pursuit of happiness, and a strong sense of community. As an American citizen,I am proud to be a part of this unique way of life and would like to extend my gratitude to all of you for allowing me to share it with you today.Thank you for your attention, and I am happy to answer any questions you may have.。
