阅读理解“I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. ”My friend’s father used to say that all the time. He was in his mid-40s.A lot of people live their lives having no clue what they want. They usually follow the American Dream without a second thought, just because that’s what’s expected of them.If you ask me, that’s a pretty terrible way to live your life. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I’d like to point out that you have only one life; make the most out of it and do things that make you happy. And you should start right now!If you don’t know what you really want in life, you’re not alone. Thousands, if not millions, of people wander the earth every day without a quest. If you don’t want to spend your life wandering aimlessly, you can use the following tips to find out exactly what you want in life.First, be selfish. You can’t pinpoint exactly what you want in life if you’re constantly sacrificing your time and dreams for other people. You have to put yourself first. Ask yourself: If you weren’t tied down by your job, family, friends, or anything else, then what would you be doing right now? Always remember that it’s okay to put yourself first, because if you don’t, then no one else will.Second, don’t feel bad for being selfish. It’s your life. It’s timefor you to live it exactly the way you want to. If you constantly regret things you did or didn’t do in the past, then you won’t be able to move forward. Don’t live in the past. Live in the present. . . and the future!Figure out what you need is another way. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what you need. Sit down and think about what you need the most. Is it your family? The freedom to express yourself? Love? Something else? If it helps, you can make a list of priorities. Also think about the kind of legacy you want to leave behind.Remember, life doesn’t always go how you want it. Don’t feel disappointed as your plans stray. Take control. Instead of breaking down, try your best to adapt to the changes. You will get there someday. You’re just taking a little detour. Sometimes a positive attitude is all you need to keep going.【文章大意】本文论述的是我们要学会梳理人生, 知道生活中自己到底想要什么。

[示例](2017·全国卷Ⅲ)·__17__In order to make a change, you need to decide why it’s important. Do you want to get up in time to have breakfast with your family, get in some exercise,or just be better prepared for your day?Once you are clear about your reasons, tell your family or roommates about the change you want to make.B.Find the right motivation.[解析]本题空格在段首,需要填一个主旨句或一个承上启下句。

If you are searching for ways to help your students find their voices, why not try making students themselves the topic of the writing? 1Who are you?One of the most difficult questions for students to answer is: “Who are you?” 2 In doing this, through writing, students will start to see their personalities differently and, hopefully, be able to add a feature to their writing.Dear John3Encourage them to write to a famous person they’ve always admired, and then the one they absolutely hate. Explore how their language changes between the two letters. When students know their audiences, it is much easier for them to add the kind of personality their audience wants to see.4When students write about what matters most to them, they will often give you the best writing you’ve ever seen. You’ll get those when you ask questions that hit home. When students have something to say about a given topic, it can be easier for them to get their ideas down and then work on their writing style.Get the words on paper, and then edit themThe most valuable lesson students can learn is to write first, and edit later. Have students written for five minutes about their topics. If they can get their ideas down on paper, that’s 90% of the battle. 5 This can help them realize that, once they have the ideas down, the rest is just fine tuning(微调). What should we expect from our leaders ? 1Yes, we do need leaders. On our own, we lack the vision, direction , and strength to reach our goals. Once we become adults, with the capacity to reason for ourselves, we are facing so many pressures of daily survival that we rarely find time and energy to focus on life’s larger issues. And when we do, our emotions and subjectivity limit our vision and our movement.2 When we are occupied with our self-interest —— petty or great, a leader sends out a wake-up call, alerting us to seek the true priorities in life. With so many people trying to be leaders there days, how do we recognize a true leader ? To answer this question, we must step back and ask : 3A true leader wants nothing more than to make people stand on their own, as leaders in their own right. Instead of trying to blind us with his or her brilliance, a true leader reflects our own light back to us, so that we can see ourselves anew. The differences between a leader and a boss : A boss drives their employees, and a leader coaches them. A boss inspires fear, and a leader generates enthusiasm. A boss says “I”, and a leader says “We”. A boss places blame for breakdowns, and a leader fixes them. 4Decide now. Decide today. Are you going to be a real leader ? Bad News for the Highly IntelligentThere are advantages to being smart. People who do well on IQ tests tend to be more successful in the classroom and the workplace. They also tend to live longer, healthier lives, and are less likely to experience negative life events.51 In a study, Ruth Karpinski and her colleagues carried out a study on the members of Mensa, a high IQ society. The study covered mood (情绪) disorders and anxiety disorders. Respondents were asked to report whether they had ever suffered from each disorder. The researchers compared the percentage of those who reported disorder to the national average and found that Mensa’s highly intelligent members were more likely to suffer from a range of serious disorders. To explain their findings, Karpinski and his team bring up the hyper brain and hyper body theory. This theory holds that, for all of its advantages, being highly intelligent is associated with psychological and physiologic al “overexcitabilities”, or OE. 52 This can include anything from an astonishing sound to conflict with another person. According to the theory, OEs are more common in highly intelligent people. A highly intelligent person may overanalyze a disapproving comment made by a boss, imagining negative outcomes that simply wouldn’t occur to someone less intelligent. 53The results of this study must be interpreted cautiously. Showing that a disorder is more common in a sample of people with high IQs than in the general population doesn’t prove that high intelligence is the cause of the disorder. 54 All the same, the findings set the stage for research that promises to cast new light on the link between intelligence and health. One possibility is that associations between intelligence and health outcomes reflect pleiotropy (基因多效性), which occurs when a gene (基因) influences seemingly unrelated characteristics. 55In a 2015 study, Rosalind Arden and her colleagues concluded that the association between IQ and living longer is mostly explained by genetic factors. From a practical standpoint, this research may lead to insights about how to improve people’s psychological and physical well-being.A. Now there’s some bad news for those smart people.B. There is already some evidence to suggest that this is the case.C. It is an unusually strong reaction to an environmental threat or abuse.D. Scientists did many researches to understand the reasons behind the advantages.E. That may cause the body’s stress respons e, which may make the person even more anxious.F. It’s also possible that people who join Mensa differ from other people in ways other than just IQ.G. They found that the differences between the respondents were seen for mood and anxiety disorders.51.A 52.C 53.E 54.F 55.B【东城二模】根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

17__In order to make a change, you need to decide why it’s important.
