BEC商务英语(初级)听力练习试卷2(题后含答案及解析)题型有:1. 5 million. In the early days, Brown rejected the idea of a competitive pricing policy to establish the company. He always thought that product quality was more important to the company’s success. He believes this approach has helped make the company a market leader. Five years ago the company bought new machinery. This has been a success and they now intend to spend large sums on a new computer system. This will improve the speed of customer service. David Brown believes the workforce plays a large part in the success of his firm. There is a good relationship between management and staff. Basic pay is average for the area and holidays are standard but the company pays bonuses to staff when large orders are finished on time. Local government wants to encourage training schemes in the workplace and META has successfully applied to them for funding. META hopes that the company’s training scheme will increase productivity but they accept that money invested in training doesn’t guarantee this. META doesn’t have a large management structure and it has promoted most of its managers from within the company. Brown does not believe management qualifications are important and looks instead for people with a positive attitude towards the company. Brown believes his company can maintain its market position. He has invested a lot of money in the production process and is confident about the skills of his workforce. Marketing, however, is one part of the business he recognizes could get better.1.正确答案:1971 涉及知识点:听力2.正确答案:PRODUCT QUALITY 涉及知识点:听力3.正确答案:COMPUTER SYSTEM 涉及知识点:听力4.正确答案:BONUSES 涉及知识点:听力5.正确答案:FUNDING/MONEY/GRANTS 涉及知识点:听力6.正确答案:ATTITUDE 涉及知识点:听力7.正确答案:MARKETING 涉及知识点:听力PART FOUR听力原文:Woman: Are you going to launch simply yet another hot-drinks machine?Man: Definitely not. Some of you may think we’re going to launch simply yet another hot-drinks machine. Can you tell me what hot-drinks machine you use daily is like?Woman:Well, you put a coin in a slot and out comes a cup of something which tastes terrible. It’s supposed to be tea or coffee—but it doesn’t taste anything like either of these two drinks. Man: Oh, that is too bad. You know—and I feel the same way—we did an experiment recently involving a wide range of hot-drinks machines. And we found that over two-thirds of the people using them couldn’t tell whether they were drinking tea or coffee. That’s how awful the taste of the drink was in each case!Woman: So how about the hot—drinks machine in the past? Were they multi-functional?Man: Such machines have been in use far too long. Even the Ancient Greeks had such machines. Woman: Even the Ancient Greeks!? What did their machines provide?Man: Their machines didn’t provide you with tea or coffee when you put a coin in. They gave you something much better—holy water. And it seems they were used for a long time without any of the breakdowns that are so common today. Now this was over 2,000 years ago. And I’m sure they had similar machines long ago in Ancient China.Woman: What is new of your product?Man: So what is new? Well, this morning we are introducing a modern, hi-tech hot-drinks machine. Woman: So what is the difference between the normal and the new?Man: With the normal machines, you put a coin in the slot, press the appropriate button and the machine puts powder—tea, coffee, chocolate, milk—into a cup. Then it pours hot water over the powder. Well, unlike these old vending machines, our new vending machine uses boiling water and serves fresh coffee—not instant coffee—and fresh tea made with high quality tea-leaves rather than tea bags. Woman: It sounds wonderful. Anytime, anywhere there is such a machine I can enjoy a cup of fresh coffee or tea.Man: And there’s another feature. People don’t need coins to operate the new machine. Instead, they can use a special kind of credit card. In the machine itself there is a small computer. This computer makes a record of each card that is inserted—and, of course, the number of times the card is used. This is far more convenient than having to use a coin. Woman: It seems to be practical too—since most of hot-drinks machines are used in the workplace—that is, in offices, factories and warehouses. And some are used in clubs and leisure centers. So it’s an easy matter for my company to charge users like me at the end of every month—or every week. Man:We’ve now produced a free book containing advice about using the machine. You may take and have a look at it. Woman: Your machine must be very expensive. Can every workplace afford to own one?Man: No. Our company proposes to make it very easy for companies to buy the machine. We shall charge even less than the cost of making the machine, and so it will be very cheap. But we shall be the only people who can regularly service the machine. The special parts required for services and repairs are manufactured by us. No one else will be supplied with these parts. We shall also charge a realistic price to re-stock the machine each time it runs out of tea and coffee. All this is where our profits will come from. Woman: Well, I understand. If I have interest, I will contact you later.8.Most people didn’t knowA.how to use hot-drinks machines.B.whether they were drinking tea or coffee.C.how awful the hot drinks were.正确答案:B 涉及知识点:听力9.The Ancient Greeks used machines to serveA.hot drinks.B.drinks like tea and coffeeC.holy water.正确答案:C 涉及知识点:听力10.These machines were used more thanA.200 years ago.B.2,000 years ago.C.20,000 years ago.正确答案:B 涉及知识点:听力11.After first putting powder into a cup, ordinary hot-drinks machines, then addA.tea or coffee.B.milk.C.hot water.正确答案:C 涉及知识点:听力12.The new machine servesA.instant coffee and tea.B.fresh coffee and tea.C.coffee powder and tea bags.正确答案:C 涉及知识点:听力13.Every new machine containsA.a credit card.B.a special coin.C.a small computer.正确答案:C 涉及知识点:听力14.Most of these machines are used in A.offices, factories and warehouses. It’s my pleasure to welcome Peter Brook from the New Zealand Kiwi Fruit Marketing Broad, the KMB for short. Good to have you. Peter First of all, for those people who may not have seen kiwi fruit, what are they?Man: Well, they are small green round fruit and they’re delicious. New Zealand now exports them more than any other fruit and vegetable, so kiwi fruit are very important to us economically. Of course,New Zealand is famous for lamp and wool production and trade involves these are still good. And these products are actually the biggest area in terms of export income.Woman: I see. Then can you tell me why the KMB was started?Man: Well, some years ago, kiwi fruit farmer found they were producing more fruit but the market was growing at the same rate. So the KMB was formed, partly to set up distribution to retailers and so on within New Zealand, but also to find more customers for kiwi fruit around the world, in other words, to make the export market bigger. Woman: I see. Now what do you do to find more customers around the world for a particular product, especially one which people have probably never seen before?Man: Well, there are a number of ways of doing this. Some marketing broads might do an international advertising campaign, so that when anybody in one of the target countries watches TV, they are certain to see the product. That’s fine, but of course it costs a lot and it’s not really suitable for our product. So we will approach it in a different way. We want to be certain that anyone who buys our product anywhere in the world has a guarantee that what they’re buying is of the highest quality. This is the best long-term policy. You can do all kinds of things, like selling at cost price at the beginning so that your product is cheaper than other competitors, but we didn’t think that will present the right image and in the end, you only have to rise your price anyway. Woman: So everything all comes down to how good your product is. Man: That’s right. Woman: And where do most export of kiwi fruit go?Man: Our market is expanding all the time. Our oldest market is in Europe and Japan, but demand is growing in Middle East and KoreA.Our latest destinations are South America and Vietnam. Woman: Really, so kiwi fruit are becoming truly international. Man: Yes. And kiwi fruit makes up currently 25% of all fruit exported by New Zealand. Woman: Do you expect any rise?Man: Yes, to 32% in five year’s time, a 7% increase we hope. Woman: How does the fruit get from the growers to the customers?Man: Most kiwi fruits are exported by sea though some are sent by air flight to Australia. The fruit comesinto the ports by truck after being packed by the growers at local packing stations. There is a plan forexpress rail transport in the future which should speed up things a bit more. Woman: And after the fruit arrive at the ports?Man: It stores on the ships in large wooden boxes. We send 15 million boxes out of the country on 80 ships, but that’s not enough. We are quite happy with the design of the boxes and we know we got exactly the right temparation on board for the fruit. In other words, our technology isn’t a problem. We simply need more ships to work efficiently as we’d like to. Woman: How do you see the future developing?Man: We hope to work out the ways to send the fruits even more quickly to our export markets to keep them as fresh as possible. Woman: Thank you Peter. One last question. Is kiwi fruit popular in New Zealand?Man:Yes. In fact it recently becomes the second biggest seller on the whole market. It’s overtaken the sales of pears and it will be a little while before we overtake apples. But that’s OK of course, because all New Zealand fruits are delicious.8.What fruit does New Zealand export most?A.Kiwi fruitB.pearC.apple正确答案:A 涉及知识点:听力9.Which is NOT the reason the KMB formed for?A.to establish kiWi fruit distribution within New ZealandB.to find more kiwi fruit export marketsC.to compete with the lamb and wool export正确答案:C 涉及知识点:听力10.What is KMB’s marketing strategy?A.to sell at cost price at the beginningB.to emphasize the quality of the kiwi fruitC.to launch an advertising campaign正确答案:B 涉及知识点:听力11.What is the newest export market KMB developed?A.South America and VietnamB.Middle East and KoreaC.Europe and Japan正确答案:A 涉及知识点:听力12.How much increase does Peter expect to have in five—year’s time? Questions 1 to 8.For questions 1-8, you will hear eight shortrecordings. For each question, mark one letter(A, B or C) for the correct answer. Here is an example: Who is Emily going to write to?[pause]Man: Emily, that supplier we use has become very unreliable, and we’ve decided to look for another one.Woman: Seems a good idea.Man: We don’t need to inform our clients, but could you send a note round to all our departments whe n we’ve decided who to replace the supplier with?Woman: Yes, of course.[pause]The answer is A.Now we are ready to start. After you bare listened once, replay each recording.[pause]One: What is the quotation for one thousand brochures with colour photos? [pause]Man: How much can you quote for our brochure order?Woman: If you want the colour photos, it’ll be more expensive. Er, for two thousand, it’ll be two thousand five hundred pounds, or for a thousand, it’ll be one thousand, five hundred pounds. Without colour photos, the price goes down a bit.Man: How much?Woman: Er, for a thousand, it would be one thousand two hundred.[pause]Two: When will the new Personnel Officer start work?[pause]Woman: Jane is leaving next week, isn’t sh e?Man: Yes. We recruited the new Personnel Officer in July, but because she has to relocate from Newcastle, I don’t think she’ll be able to begin until October. Woman: Well, we’ll need to arrange some temporary cover for September.Man: OK. I’ll look i nto it.[pause]Three: Which pie chart is correct?[pause]Man: . . . and I’m pleased to report that here at WTM, our market share has increased by ten per cent, taking us ahead of our rivals PTA for the first time. Of course, A VC are still the market leaders with a fifty-five-per-cent share, so...[pause]Four: Why is Jane unhappy about Michael’s report?[pause]Woman: Where’s the report I asked for, Michael?Man: Sorry, Jane, it’s here, just finished. It’s a bit late, but...Woman: That doesn’t matter. Has anyone else seen it?Man: I circulated copies internally. I thought you asked me to.Woman: Not before I’d checked it first. If you’ve made mistakes in it, it won’t be very good for the department.[pause]Five: What is the woman’s current job with BGT?[pause]Man: Can you tell me about your work with BGT?Woman: Well, I started in nineteen ninety-two as Account Manager. The General Manager was keen to promote young staff quickly, so shortly after that, I became Project Team Leader. My boss, the Project Manager, became General Manager last year.Man: And you were promoted?Woman: Yes, I took his place.[pause]Six: What does the speaker think the company should do?[pause]Man: So, what will you do to keep the business going through this difficult time? Woman: As a low-cost airline, we’re happy with the numbers using the internet to reserve ticket and customers report that our prices are competitive. We now need tolook at cutting back on in-flight catering, as sales of snacks ha really dropped recently. [pause]Seven: What does the woman need to get?[pause]Man: Is there a sound system in the seminar room?Woman: Well, we’ve got a microphone, and there’s a video player there...Man: Mmm, I’m not sure the MD will use it. Man: No, leave it, I might use it in the afternoon[pause]Eight: Which graph shows the company figures?[pause]Man: Figures published today by the Falmouth Group received a mixed reaction. Some of you know a lot about it already, but for people who don’t, the first thing to say is that if you do want to see what sort of work we do, on every third Thursday in the month, there’s an exhibition, so come along to that - you’re very welcome. At Arlington Park, we aim to help you not only to get the most out of your staff, but also the most out of you yourself. Our next two weekend workshops are covering two very important areas in this field: on the tenth of June, we have a workshop on communication.Nothing could be easier in our modern world and yet nothing is more difficult, too. On the seventeenth of July, we have a change in the programme; we previously advertised a course on using technology, but that day is now set aside for a course called simply ‘Leadership’, run by one of our best trainers, Richard Gordon. You probably know his management books. The one-day weekend workshops are just one of the types of courses we offer. We also offer three-day programmes, and these include accommodation. I’ll leave a pile of leaflets about those with you, so that you can look at them at your leisure.Arlington Park is very well equipped, and managers always enjoy their stay. Our facilities are excellent, and we have special training suites, as well as a fitness centre. Every quarter, we publish a magazine - I’ve got a few copies here for those of you who haven’t seen it before. We’ve just c hanged the name; it used to be Developing People, now it’s called Moving Forward. The articles in it are written by the trainers and by the managers attending our courses. If anyone would like to go on our mailing list, would you please fill in one of these enquiry forms and leave it at reception? I’ll pick up all the forms at the end of themorning. Now, onto more detail...[pause]Now listen to the recording again.[pause]That is the end of Part Three. You now bare twenty seconds to check your answers. [pause]Part Four. Questions 23 to 30.You will hear an interview with John Winterman, the Managing Director of a sports-equipment manufacturing company called Turners. For each question, 23-30, mark one letter (A, B orC) for the correct answer. After you have listened once, replay the recording. You now have forty-five seconds to read through the questions.[pause]Now listen, and mark A, B or C.Woman: ... and this morning, we welcome John Winterman, Managing Director of Turners, the sports company which manufactures golf and tennis equipment.Man: Morning.Woman: So, John, you took charge of the company after a management buy-out. What made you and the other managers sure that it would be a successful move?Man: Well, when we bought the business in nineteen ninety-seven, we knew there were financial problems to solve, including some hidden debts. But we felt the products themselves were really excellent, and a good basis from which to grow the company. And, although the brand image wasn’t pa rticularly well known, we felt it was possible to build on it.Woman: I see. I believe the previous owners weren’t specialists in the field...Man: That’s right.., they were a large engineering group called AFT.Woman: Did that cause any difficulties?Man: Yes. Although AFT used the same management systems as in its other -engineering - businesses, and these seemed to be working, the production system just wasn’t right for a consumer goods company. Turners offers a wide range of products, and has a complex business mix as a result.Woman: I see. And how did their management system affect distribution?Man: Well, the first thing we realised was that, although there was an up-to-date computer system, it was impossible to follow the movement of products around the world. The items we manufactured had a different product number in each country! The methods of transport also varied enormously from one country to another, which made the invoices complicated.Woman: And what sort of service was the customer getting?Man: Well, it wasn’t very efficient. Our customers, the sports outlets, complained that although they were usually on time, orders often had items missing. I think these outlets only stayed with us because there was still demand for our products. Woman: And how do you intend to promote the brand?Man: Well, with sports equipment, image is all important, because there’s so much competition. Although AFT had been active in their promotions with sports clubs in the early days, they hadn’t kept up th eir efforts. Consequently, many players, especially those still at schools, are unfamiliar with our name. Our aim now is to make Turners products a big name at all the important sports events across the world. Woman: What was your approach to reorganizing the company?Man: Well, the first thing we did was appoint new directors.Woman: And where did you start?Man: Well, we knew we had to spend money on marketing, but the most important thing was to introduce better management control of finances, and after that, to look very carefully at the organisation and cost of manufacturing.Woman: Did you make any changes there?Man: Oh, yes. To take one example, at one point we started out manufacturing tennis balls in Germany. But costs were lower in the Philippines. So in the end, we moved all our manufacturing there. By the end of this year, ninety-five per cent of our production will be there, although we are opening one small plant in Indonesia, too.Woman: And is the company on a better financial basis now?Man: Absolutely. We’ll be in profit this year, and looking to expand.Woman: You plan to introduce new products then?Man: Yes. We’ve just launched a new product, a waterproof tennis ball, and we’ve signed contracts with several players from different countries to give us an international image, so I’m really pleased about that. But our key objective is to develop the products we have, such as tennis rackets, and improve them further. Woman: So the future looks promising.Man: It certainly does.Woman: Thanks, John.Man: Thank you.[pause]Now listen to the recording, again.[pause]That is the end of Part Four. You now have ten minutes to transfer your answers to your AnswerSheet.[pause]Note: Teacher, stop the recording here and time ten minutes. Remind students when there is one minute remaining. That is the end of the test.。

For each question, mark one letter(A, B or C) for the correct answer. Here is an example: Who is Emily going to write to?[pause]Man: Emily, that supplier we use has become very unreliable, and we've decided to look for another one.Woman: Seems a good idea.Man: We don't need to inform our clients, but could you send a note round to all our departments when we've decided who to replace the supplier with?Woman: Yes, of course.[pause]The answer is A.Now we are ready to start. After you bare listened once, replay each recording.[pause]One: What is the quotation for one thousand brochures with colour photos?[pause]Man: How much can you quote for our brochure order?Woman: If you want the colour photos, it'll be more expensive. Er, for two thousand, it'll be two thousand five hundred pounds, or for a thousand, it'll be one thousand, five hundred pounds. Without colour photos, the price goes down a bit.Man: How much?Woman: Er, for a thousand, it would be one thousand two hundred.[pause]Two: When will the new Personnel Officer start work?[pause]Woman: Jane is leaving next week, isn't she?Man: Yes. We recruited the new Personnel Officer in July, but because she has to relocate from Newcastle, I don't think she'll be able to begin until October.Woman: Well, we'll need to arrange some temporary cover for September.Man: OK. I'll look into it.[pause]Three: Which pie chart is correct?[pause]Man: . . . and I'm pleased to report that here at WTM, our market share has increased by ten per cent, taking us ahead of our rivals PTA for the first time. Of course, AVC are still the marketleaders with a fifty-five-per-cent share, so...[pause]Four: Why is Jane unhappy about Michael's report?[pause]Woman: Where's the report I asked for, Michael?Man: Sorry, Jane, it's here, just finished. It's a bit late, but...Woman: That doesn't matter. Has anyone else seen it?Man: I circulated copies internally. I thought you asked me to.Woman: Not before I'd checked it first. If you've made mistakes in it, it won't be very good for the department.[pause]Five: What is the woman's current job with BGT?[pause]Man: Can you tell me about your work with BGT?Woman: Well, I started in nineteen ninety-two as Account Manager. The General Manager was keen to promote young staff quickly, so shortly after that, I became Project Team Leader. My boss, the Project Manager, became General Manager last year.Man: And you were promoted?Woman: Yes, I took his place.[pause]Six: What does the speaker think the company should do?[pause]Man: So, what will you do to keep the business going through this difficult time?Woman: As a low-cost airline, we're happy with the numbers using the internet to reserve ticket and customers report that our prices are competitive. We now need to look atcutting back on in-flight catering, as sales of snacks ha really dropped recently.[pause]Seven: What does the woman need to get?[pause]Man: Is there a sound system in the seminar room?Woman: Well, we've got a microphone, and there's a video player there...Man: Mmm, I'm not sure the MD will use it. A flipchart is essential, though.Woman: Oh, I never thought of that, I'll fetch on now. Shall I remove the video?Man: No, leave it, I might use it in the afternoon[pause]Eight: Which graph shows the company figures?[pause]Man: Figures published today by the Falmouth Group received a mixed reaction. And could you collect the other one whenyou deliver the new desk?Woman: Yes. This desk is cheaper, it's a hundred and seventy-nine pounds ninety-nine.., so that'll be... a hundred and sixty-two pounds with your normal ten-per-cent discount.Man: Good. We could deliver the new desk next Thursday, the fourteenth, or the following week on thenineteenth.Man: Urn, the later date is best. You've got our address.Woman: Yes. Thank you for coming to hear abont Arlington Park. Some of you know a lot about it already, but for people who don't, the first thing to say is that if you do want to see what sort of work we do, on every third Thursday in the month, there's an exhibition, so come along to that - you're very welcome. At Arlington Park, we aim to help you not only to get the most out of your staff, but also the most out of you yourself. Our next two weekend workshops are covering two very important areas in this field: on the tenth of June, we have a workshop oncommunication.Nothing could be easier in our modern world and yet nothing is more difficult, too. On the seventeenth of July, we have a change in the programme; we previously advertised a course on using technology, but that day is now set aside for a course called simply 'Leadership', run by one of our best trainers, Richard Gordon. You probably know his management books. The one-day weekend workshops are just one of the types of courses we offer. We also offer three-day programmes, and these include accommodation. I'll leave a pile of leaflets about those with you, so that you can look at them at your leisure.Arlington Park is very well equipped, and managers always enjoy their stay. Our facilities are excellent, and we have special training suites, as well as a fitness centre.Every quarter, we publish a magazine - I've got a few copies here for those of you who haven't seen it before. We've just changed the name; it used to be Developing People, now it's called Moving Forward. The articles in it are written by the trainers and by the managers attending our courses. If anyone would like to go on our mailing list, would you please fill in one of these enquiry forms and leave it at reception? I'll pick up all the forms at the end of the morning. Now, onto more detail...[pause]Now listen to the recording again.[pause]That is the end of Part Three. You now bare twenty seconds to check your answers.[pause]Part Four. And, although the brand image wasn't particularly well known, we felt it was possible to build on it.Woman: I see. I believe the previous owners weren't specialists in the field...Man: That's right.., they were a large engineering group called AFT.Woman: Did that cause any difficulties?Man: Yes. Although AFT used the same management systemsas in its other -engineering - businesses, and these seemed to be working, the production system just wasn't right for a consumer goods company. Turners offers a wide range of products, and has a complex business mix as a result.Woman: I see. And how did their management systemaffect distribution?Man: Well, the first thing we realised was that, although there was an up-to-date computer system, it was impossible to follow the movement of products around the world. The items we manufactured had a different product number in each country! The methods of transport also varied enormously from one country to another, which made the invoices complicated.Woman: And what sort of service was the customer getting?Man: Well, it wasn't very efficient. Our customers, the sports outlets, complained that although they were usually on time, orders often had items missing. I think these outlets only stayed with us because there was still demand for our products.Woman: And how do you intend to promote the brand?Man: Well, with sports equipment, image is all important,。

I think these outlets only stayed with us because there was still demand for our products.Woman: And how do you intend to promote the brand?Man: Well, with sports equipment, image is all important, because there's so much competition. Although AFT had been active in their promotions with sports clubs in the early days, they hadn't kept up their efforts. Consequently, many players, especially those still at schools, are unfamiliar with our name. Our aim now is to make Turners products a big name at all the important sports events across the world.Woman: What was your approach to reorganizing the company?Man: Well, the first thing we did was appoint new directors.Woman: And where did you start?Man: Well, we knew we had to spend money on marketing, but the most important thing was to introduce better management control of finances, and after that, to look very carefully at the organisation and cost of manufacturing.Woman: Did you make any changes there?Man: Oh, yes. We'll be in profit this year, and looking to expand.Woman: You plan to introduce new products then?Man: Yes. We've just launched a new product, a waterproof tennis ball, and we've signed contracts with several players from different countries to give us an international image, so I'm really pleased about that. But our key objective is to develop the products we have, such as tennis rackets, and improve them further.Woman: So the future looks promising.Man: It certainly does.Woman: Thanks, John.Man: Thank you.[pause]Now listen to the recording, again.[pause]That is the end of Part Four. You now have ten minutes to transfer your answers to your AnswerSheet.[pause]Note: Teacher, stop the recording here and time tenminutes. Remind students when there is one minute remaining. That is the end of the test.。
