Before April 6, 1991, Su Mingjuan, born in 1983 in a small village in Anhui province, led a life similar to those of other children in the campaign: she went to school and did farm work to alleviate the burdens of his parents. It is not easy for the children’s campaign to attend regular classes since their families do not have enough money to pay tuition.On April 6, 1991, the photographer Xie Hailong visited the school. When he saw Su Mingjuan, he took a photo of the girl: a pencil in hand, Su Mingjuan looks ahead, eyes wide open. The publication in the Chinese media of this photo, entitled“I want to go to school,”has aroused the emotions of the public so that Project Hope, a program to collect donations to help children take education, decided to use her as an ambassador.
