Ⅰ.背景呈现The Tangshan Earthquake also known as the Great Tangshan Earthquake was a natural disaster that occurred on July 28, 1976. It is believed to be the largest earthquake of the 20th century by death toll. The epicenter(震中)of the earthquake was near Tangshan in Hebei, People’s Republic of China, an industrial city with approximately one million inhabitants(居民). The number of deaths initially reported by the Chinese government was 655,000.A further 164,000 people were recorded as being severely injured. The earthquake hit in the early morning at 03:42:53.8 local time (1976 Ju ly 27 19:42:53.8 UTC),and lasted for around 15 seconds. 定语从句由关系代词或关系副词引导,当关系代词作定语从句的主语时,其后的谓语动词的人称和数取决于先行词的人称和数。

2.定语从句一般位于先行词的后面,定语从句由关系代词who,whom,whose,which,that,a s和关系副词when,where,why等引导。

关系代词和关系副词在定语从句中担任一个成分,关系代词在定语从句中可用作主语,宾语,定语等;关系副词在定语从句中用作状语。

由此,关系代词和关系副词起着连接主从句,指代先行词和在从句中作句子成分的三重作用。

3. 定语从句三步:第一找出先行词;第二看先行词在定语从句中的语法功能(做主语、宾语或状语);第三选择合适的关系词。

4.关系代词引导的定语从句关系代词所代替的先行词是人或物的名词或代词,并在句中充当主语、宾语、定语等成分。

关系代词在定语从句中作主语时,从句谓语动词的人称和数要和先行词保持一致。

几个关系代词的基本用法:1)who, whom, that这些词代替的先行词是人的名词或代词,在从句中作主语和宾语。

例如:Is he the man who/that wants to see you? 他就是你想见的人吗?(who/that在从句中作主语)He is the man whom/ that I saw yesterday. 他就是我昨天见的那个人。

(whom/that在从句中作宾语)2)whose 用来指人或物,(只用作定语, 若指物,它还可以同of which互换)。

例如:They rushed over to help the man whose car had broken down.那人车坏了,大家都跑过去帮忙。
