SECTION I. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION1. DescriptionA. The rotary electro-mechanical actuator (see Figure 1) is used in two applications: 1) to provideprimary power for the cargo door operating system; and, 2) to provide primary power for a portion of the on-board cargo loading system.B. The major functional components of the unit are an alternating current motor, manual inputdrive mechanism, spur and planetary reduction gear drive train, mechanical overload clutch,double-ended output shaft and mechanical drive housing. OperationA. Normally, the unit is operated electrically. Direction of operation is controlled by application ofa 28 volt DC signal to the appropriate direction control relay. When the relay is activated, inputpower is supplied to release the brake and drive the unit. Refer to Figure 2 for electricalinterface data and Figure 3 for wiring schematic.B. Manual operation is permitted through the use of the manual drive input socket. This mode maybe utilized when power is not available, or in the event of a malfunction.C. The mechanical overload clutch within the unit provides protection against excessive systemloads. The thermal overload protector provides protection against overheating, andautomatically resets. Insulation ResistanceA. Motor and Brake1) Connect pins 1,2, 3 and 4 of the electrical connector together to form an electrical bond.2) Energize both control relays by applying 28 volts dc between connector pins 5 and 6 (+28vdc) and pin 8 (dc return).3) Using a Megohmmeter, apply a test voltage of 500 volts dc between the connected pins (1, 2,3 and 4) and pin 9 (case ground) for one minute.4) The insulation resistance should not be less than 100 megohms.B. Control Circuits1) Connect pins 5, 6 and 8 of the electrical connector together to form an electrical bond.2) Using a Megohmmeter, apply a test voltage of 500 volts dc between the connected pins (5, 6,and 8) and pin 9 (case ground) for one minute.3) The insulation resistance shall not be less than 200 megohms.5. PerformanceTestsSetupA. Test1) Install the actuator in the performance test fixture. Connect the electrical harness.2) Install a revolution counter to monitor output shaft revolutions.B. Actuator Rotation Direction Test1) With A:B:C phase rotation of the 115/200 volts ac power source applied to connectorpins 1,2,3 and 4, apply 28 volts dc between pin 5 (+28 vdc) and pin 8 (dc return).2) The output shaft of the actuator shall rotate in the clockwise direction as viewed fromthe motor end of the actuator.3) Remove +28 vdc from pin 5, and then apply +28 vdc to pin 6.4) The output shaft of the actuator shall rotate counterclockwise direction.TestC. FunctionalNOTE: For functional testing purposes, a stroke (clockwise or counterclockwise) shall be defined as electrical operation of the unit through 220 revolutions of the outputshaft, followed by a 5 minute cooling period. A cycle shall be defined as oneclockwise stroke, followed by one counterclockwise stroke.1) Operate the unit through one cycle with no load.2) The unit shall satisfactorily complete the cycle.3) Operate the unit through one clockwise (viewing motor end) stroke with an opposingload of either 240 inch pounds (130E100-4/-13) or 300 inch-pounds (130E100-2, andobserve the stroke time with a stopwatch.4) The unit shall complete the stroke within either 60 seconds (130E100-4/-13) or 62seconds (130E100-2).5) Operate the unit through one cycle with an opposing load of either 280 inch-pounds(130E100-4/-13) or 380 inch-pounds (130E100-2).6) The unit shall satisfactorily complete the cycle.D. Mechanical Overload Clutch TestCAUTION: DO NOT ALLOW THE MECHANICAL OVERLOAD CLUTCH TO SLIP FOR MORE THAN 3 SECONDS WITHOUT A 5-MINUTE COOLINGPERIOD.1) Beginning with a load of either approximately 300 inch-pounds (130E100-4/-13) or 400inch-pounds (130E100-2) torque, operate the actuator against a gradually increasingload until the mechanical overload clutch begins to slip.2) Repeat step (1) above for a total of 3 times in each direction, noting the slip point eachtime.3) The mechanical overload clutch should slip within a range of either 300 to 350 inch-pounds (130E100-4/-13) or 400 to 450 inch-pounds (130E100-2) torque, each time.NOTE: The following adjustment procedure is allowable on new or factory overhauled clutches only. NO adjustments are permitted on used clutches.4) If the mechanical overload clutch does not slip within the required load range, new orfactory overhauled clutches may be adjusted as follows:a) Remove screws (7, IPL Figure 1) and access cover (8).NOTE: Tighten the adjusting nut to increase the slip torque; loosen the nut todecrease the slip torque range. The maximum allowable adjustment is ±1/2 turn of the adjusting nut.b) Using a drift punch or other suitable tool, turn the adjusting nut of mechanicaloverload clutch (61) 1/4 turn in the appropriate direction.c) Recheck the slip torque point. If necessary, repeat the adjustment. If themechanical overload clutch slip torque is not within the tolerance after themaximum allowable adjustment of ± 1/2 turn of the adjusting nut, replace theclutch.d) After the final adjustment, secure the adjusting nut by applying two drops ofthread locking compound between each slot of the nut.e) Reinstall cover (8) and secure with screws (7). Seal the cover joint with StabondC-111 adhesive (Refer to Table 701).E. Manual Drive Input Torque Check1)Manually drive the actuator against the rated torque load of either 240 ± 10 inch-pounds (130E100-4/-13) or 300 ± 10 inch-pounds (130E100-2) for 10 revolutions in each direction, while noting the maximum input torque required.2) The manual drive input torque should not exceed either 55 inch-pounds (130E100-4/-13) or 70 inch-pounds (130E100-2).6.
