A Life with Birds
The Tower of London is famous（闻名的，著名的）(4) for（因为）its ravens, the large black birds which have lived there for（(数量、距离)达，计）over three centuries. David was immediately fascinated（使……着迷）by（被）the birds and when（当）he was (5) offered（提供）the post（职位）of Raven Master eight years ago he had no (6) hesitation（犹豫）in（对于）accepting（接受）it. “The birds have now become my life and I’m always (7) aware（意识到）of the fact that （表语从句）I am (8) maintaining（保持）tradition. The legend says that if the ravens leave the Tower, England will fall（落到）to enemies, and it’s my job to(9) make sure（确保）this doesn’t happen（发生）! ”
A Life with Birds
David (10) devotes（献身于……专用于……）about four hours a day to the care （护理，照顾）of（对于）the ravens. He has grown（渐渐变得，发生）to love them and the (11) fact（事实）that he lives right next（在……旁边）to them is ideal （理想的）. “I can (12) keep（关注，注意）a close（密切的）eye on them all the time（一直）, and not just when I’m working.” (13) At first（首先）, David’s wife Mo was not (14) keen on（对……感兴趣，对……热衷）the idea of life in the Tower, but （但是）she too will be sad（伤心的）to leave（离开）when（当）he retires next year. “When we look out of（向外面看）our windows we see history（历史）(15) all around（在……周围）us, and we are taking it in and storing（存储）it up for our future memories（记忆）.”。
