One of the first such legal proviaions was the 1994 " Toubon law' in France. but the idea hs been copied in many counuics since then. Such efrorts to govern language use are oftendismisscd as futile by language experts . who are well aware of the difficulty of controlling fashions in specch and know fromresearch that language switching among bilinguals is a natural process.It is especiaLly difficult for native speakers of English to understand the desire to maintain the 'purity" of a language by law. Since the time of Shakespeare . English has continually absorbedforeign words into its own language. EngLish is one of the most mixed and rapidly changing languages in the world. But the has not been a barrier to acquiring prestige and power. Maybe someone had kicked her out of their car the night before.“We’re moving house.”“No space for her any more with the baby coming.”“We never really wanted her,but what could we have done?She was a present.”People find all sorts of excuses for abandoning an animal. And she was one of the most beautiful dogs I had ever seen.I called her Goldie. If I had known what was going to happen I would have given her a more creative name.She was so unsettled during those first few days.She hardly ate anything and had such an air of sadness about her.There was nothing I could do to make her happy,it seemed.Heaven kn ows what had happened to her at her previous owner’s. But eventually at the end of the first week she calmed down.Always by my side,whether we were out on one of our long walks or sitting by the fire.That’s why it was such a shock when she pulled away fro m me one day when we were out for a walk. We were a long way from home,when she started barking and getting very restless. Eventually I couldn’t hold her any longer and she raced off down the road towards a farmhouse in the distance as fast as she could.By the time I reached the farm I was very tired and upset with Goldie.But when I saw her licking (舔) the four puppies (幼犬) I started to feel sympathy towards them.“We didn’t know what had happened to her,”said the woman at the door.“I took her for a walk one day,soon after the puppies were born,and she just disappeared.”“She must have tried to come back to them and got lost,”added a boy from behind her.I must admit I do miss Goldie,but I’ve got Nugget now,and she looks just like her mother. And I’ve learnt a good lesson:not to judge people.【语篇解读】文章讲述了一只狗(Goldie)的故事:它从原先的家中走失,被作者收养。

While sipping tea, the gentlemen presented her with a small gift which she eagerly opened. She was thrilled with the gift and shouted excitedly, “Oh, it’s beautiful!”At this point, the four Japanese gentlemen stood up and, bowing only very slightly, said “Sayonara” and left immediately. Poor Geri was left astonished. What did she do wrong?Everything! Her jeans were the first gaffe. Even if you’re coming off a bicycle in Japan, you do not meet clients (客人) casually dressed. The second mistake was Ger i’s handling of their business cards rudely. In Japan, the business card is one of the most important communicative tools. It is always presented and accepted respectfully with both hands. However, Geri put their cards away much too quickly. In Japan, people use business cards as a conversation starter. You chat about each other’s cards and work and do not put theirs away until they gently and respectfully place yours in safekeeping. Putting it carelessly into her jeans pocket was the ultimate disrespect.Then, the fourth horror of horrors was that Geri should not have opened the gift in front of her clients. In a land where saving face is critical, it would beembarrassing to discover the gift they gave was not as nice as the one they received. What is wors e, Geri hadn’t even given them a gift!【文章大意】本文叙述了来自加利福尼亚的Geri坐飞机来到了日本,由于不熟悉日本的礼仪,引起了日本人的误会。

Social PracticeSocial practice has been more and more popular in schools. Senior school students are asked to enter society and get some ideas of it. Surely, social practice has many advantages. Firstly, social practice can offer students a chance to contact society and meet different kinds of people. In this way students can gain some precious social experience, which will be useful to their future career. Secondly,students can apply what they have learned in class to practical work, thus knowing themselves more clearly. Thirdly, social practice can bring them some financial reward and make them more independent of their family.However, some problems may arise if no correct guidance is made. For example, some students get overly interested in social practice and want to work full-time and earn more money, thus neglecting their studies. And some students are likely to get in touch with the dark side of society, which will affect their future values.In order to carry out social practice smoothly, students should first know its objective. They should put their studies in the first place and see social practice just as a useful supplement, so they ought to try to strike a balance between social practice and their studies.【写作内容】1.

AThis is an open letter to the three people who stole my handbag from the department store I am employed as a shop assistant.When you took my bag, I don’t know what you thought you were going to get. With my wages, there's not much left on a Tuesday. I hope the £5 was useful to you . I have informed the social security office so you won’t be able to cash the child benefit next week. I hope that won't leave you too short. But if you really need a couple of pounds, I suppose you could always cash one of the two checks left in my check book. Of course, I phoned the bank right away and the check-casing card is no longer valid, so it won’t be much use to you.Actually I don’t mind about the money too much. We single parents who work to support our families understand only too well what it means to be short of cash. However, I don’t suppose it went very far among the three of you. Sorry about that!I wish you had left the bag behind and just taken the wallet and check book. There were all kinds of papers in it, and notes and things that I really need. I really think that was very inconsiderate of you. I mean, how would you like something like that to happen to you?Well, perhaps the bag will turn up. It wasn’t even an expensive one, just a plain, old brown leather shoulder bag. You probably dumped it in the nearest rubbish bin or threw it into the bushes. We've looked around, of course, but no one saw which way you went after you left the shop.I'm not really angry with you. I know how the pressures of modern living can affect us, but I am sad at the loss of my personal things. I feel violated and helpless. The police were very icy, and they just shrugged their shoulders. “It happens all the time,” the y told me. Some small comfort, I suppose. But I’ve lost just a little more faith in human nature.And as my young son said when I told him what had happened, “Why? Mummy, why us?”I couldn'tanswer that question. I wonder if you can.1. In writing Paragraph 2, the writer wants to .A. describe the contents of the bag in detail.B. give some suggestions to the three thievesC. state the fact that she was careless with the moneyD. tell the thieves hardly any money was available2. Which of the following is the most valuable to the writer?A. The cash in her bag.B. The handbag itself.C. The papers and notes in the bag.D. The check books in the bag.3. What can we conclude about the police?A. They think the case quite common.B. They show sympathy for the woman.C. They have doubts about human nature.D. They are unable to find the thieves.4. Why does the author write the letter?A. To give the thieves a serious warning.B. To express her affection for her valuable bag.C. To call people’s attention to their belongings.D. To complain about the fall of morality.【参考答案】1— 4 DCADJob sharing refers to the situation in which two people divide the responsibility of one full-time job. The two people willingly act as part-time workers, enough hours between them to fulfill the duties of a full-time worker. If they each work half the job, for example, they each receive 50 per cent of the job’s wages, its holidays and its other benefits.Job sharing differs from conventional part-time work in that it occurs mainly in the more highly skilled and professional areas, which require higher levels of responsibility and employee commitment.Job sharing should not be confused with the term work sharing, which refers to increasing the number of jobs by reducing the number of hours of each existing job, thus offering more positions to the growing number of unemployed people. Job sharing, by contrast, is not designed to address unemployment problems; its focus, rather, is to provide well-paid work for skilled workers and professionals who want more free time for other activities.As would be expected, most job sharers are women. A survey carried out in 1988 by Britain’s Equal Opportunities Commission showed that 78 per cent of sharers were female, the majority of whom were between 20 and 40 years of age. Subsequent studies have come up with similar results. Many of these women were re-entering the job market after having had children, but they chose not to seek part-time work because it would have meant lower status. Job sharing also offered an acceptable shift back into full-time work after a long absence.The necessity of close cooperation when sharing a job with another person makes the actual work quite different from conventional one-position jobs. However, to ensure a greater chance that the partnership will succeed, each person needs to know the strengths, weaknesses and preferences of his or her partner before applying for a position. Moreover, there must be a fair division of both routine tasks and interesting ones. In sum, for a position to be job-shared well, the two individuals must be well matched and must treat each other as equals.5. In what way is work sharing different from job sharing?A. Work sharing is aimed at creating more jobs.B. Work sharing requires more working hours.C. Work sharing provides a more satisfactory salary.D. Work sharing depends on the employer’s decision.6. According to Paragraph 4, young mothers preferred job sharing to conventional part-time workmainly because _________.A. they were over ideal working agesB. they sought higher social statusC. they had difficulty finding full-time jobsD. they had to take care of both work and family7. In job sharing the partners should __________.A. enjoy equal social statusB. have similar work experienceC. know each other very wellD. keep in touch with each other8. The main purpose of the passage is to ___________.A. discuss how to provide more jobsB. describe job sharing in generalC. recommend job sharing to womenD. compare job sharing with work sharing参考答案5—8.ABCBConsider―YOU. The development of media channels such as satellite and cable television, the internet and mobile telephones has broken the traditional free television model in every advanced economy. Well managed sports will remain valuable content and many will continue to grow. Forward thinking governing bodies will grasp the opportunity by repackaging their sports to adapt to the new broadcast landscape. Others will not.Brand marketers have seen the effectiveness of the traditional TV sport advertising fall over the last twenty years as audiences for free to air television fall year by year. The growth of sponsorship(赞助)as a marketing tool is one result. However, sport must compete for the sponsor dollar with other forms of content such as music, the arts and culture and cause-related marketing, each of which offers a powerful choice.At the same time some of sports biggest marketers, the soft drink, beer and fast foodcompanies, will come under growing pressure from social and political pressure groups concerned about levels of obesity(肥胖), over drinking and anti-social behavior that have become such a part of modern life.Companies such as McDonalds, Coca Cola and Budweiser face calls to cut its ties with sport, which will be popular over the next decade. Are we facing a ban on soft drink sponsorship similar to that of tobacco? It proved to be a superior violin and it would become Dad's masterpiece.He was convinced that the secret of the Stradivarius sound was in the wood itself.Later,the instrument was stolen.Dad's spirit was broken by the robbery, and he stopped making instruments. In return, she gained a sense of pleasure.
• As far as I am concerned, I prefer to donate my pocket money to the disabled. Faced with great challenges in daily life, they are unable to earn enough money to support themselves. Besides, just as an Indian old saying goes, “Roses in her hand, fragrance in mine”. That’s to say, when I help others, my soul will gain a sense of fulfillment.

If I am going to give donations, I will choose students too. They are in the most important period in their life. They need to get a good education. They have to buy a lot of books, pencil-cases, pens, erasers and so on, which will certainly cost a lot. Furthermore, they are growing up rapidly, which needs a lot of nutrition. If they don’t have enough money, they can’t eat enough food and take in enough energy. In a word, money is very important to students.(189 words)

The boy with the dream asked, “Why did I receive an F?”The teacher said, “This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money. You come from an itinerant(四处奔波的)family. You have no resources. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock andlater you’ll have to pay large stud fees. There’s no way you could ever do it.”He stated, “You can keep the F and I’ll keep my dream.”The best part of the story is that two summers ago that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on his ranch for a week. When the teacher was leaving, he said, “Look, Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer. During those years I stole a lot of kids’ dreams. Fortunately you had enough belief not to give up on yours.”【写作内容】学校最近组织了一次中美学生交流活动,你参加其中的“坚守信念”的讨论。

Florence Chadwick was a great swimmer. However, not all of her efforts worked out. In addition to working hard, she had a secret for success. At the age of 34, her goal was to become the first woman to swim from Catalina Island to the California coast. However, in 1952, the sea was like an ice bath and the fog was so dense that she could hardly see her support boats. Her body was numb(麻木) and she had been swimming for nearly 16 hours. Against the cold grip of the sea, she struggled on—hour after hour—while millions watched on national television. Alongside Florence, inone of the boats, her mother and her trainer offered encouragement. They told her it wasn’t much farther. But all she could see was fog. They urged her not to quit. She never had… until then. With only a half mile to go, she asked to be pulled out. Still warming her chilled body several hours later, she told a reporter, “Look, I’m not excusing myself, but if I could have seen land I might have made it.” It was not tiredness or even the cold water that defeated her. It was the fog. She was unable to see her goal. Two months later, she tried again. Despite the same dense fog, she swam with her faith intact(未受影响的)and her goal clearly pictured in her mind. She knew that somewhere behind that fog was land and this time she made it!【写作内容】你准备参加学校最近组织的一次英文演讲比赛,主题是“The Value of Goals”。

As I grew older, I started to realize that life wasn't always easy. There were challenges and obstacles to overcome. But I never gave up. I always believed that I could achieve my dreams if I worked hard enough.3. One of the biggest lessons I've learned is to never compare myself to others. We all have our own unique journey and it's important to stay true to ourselves. It's okay to be different and to follow our own path.4. Another important lesson I've learned is the power of gratitude. It's so easy to focus on what we don't have, but when we take the time to appreciate what we do have, we realize how truly blessed we are.5. Looking back on my life so far, I can see how far I've come. I've faced challenges, experienced joy and heartache, and grown as a person. And I know that the best is yet to come. Life is a journey, and I'm excited to see where it takes me next.。

It is an in-depth relationship combining trust, support,communication,loyalty,understanding,sympathy and intimacy. These are certainly aspects of life that all of us desire.Being able to trust and relax with your friend is a big part of
friendship.Remember when you were young you went with a friend to her grandma' s for the weekend.It was fun but when you got home,home was wonderful. Your feeling was" I am home.I can relax now." That's what a friendship should be.You go out into the world and do your best.You have your ups and downs,your problems and triumphs,your fun and tribulations.You charm and perform. Then you come "home" to a friend.You can relax, put up your feet;you are relieved.If you still have to be charming and/or performing,it's not a relief.Friendship is a comfortable situation like home.You get home,kick off your shoes.Relax and sigh,"Ahh,home." But no one can form a friendship until he/she realizes that the basis of being friends is meeting the needs of the other person.One must be a friend to have a friend.Never forget that friends relate.Relating is the basis of friendship.【写作内容】

四.基础写作(15分):
参考范文:
Dear Schoolmates,
Today, I’d like to introduce my favorite newspaper—21st Century Teens Senior Edition to you. It is an English weekly designed for us senior high school students in China, aiming to meet our needs to learn English and improve our ability to use the language. It provides all kinds of latest news at home and abroad,which is suitable for our reading level. Besides news, it covers a wide range of interesting topics such as culture, social life, sports, entertainment and so on. Reading this newspaper, I have acquired abundant knowledge of history, culture and society,
broadening my horizons and also greatly improved my English reading abilities.
I hope it will also be helpful to you. Thank you.
五.读写任务(25分):
参考范文:
Friendship plays a big part in our life, just like a home where you can get relaxed. But to keep and form it needs relating and being ready to help others.
According to my experience, I think friends bring me not only trust, understanding but also warmth. Once on a weekend I fell badly ill. Unfortunately, I lived at school and my parents had no idea of my illness. I had thought about lying in bed all day. But one of my friends had me sent to hospital and looked after me without having a rest, which made me moved a lot. How grateful I am to my friend!
As I enjoy making friends, I value friendship a lot. And I think friendship is a relationship which requires both honesty with each other and sharing.
Thus, to my mind, to build up real friendship, we should make friends with those who we can trust, then take serious concerns on our friendship and always get ready to help each other.。
