Only use a hard, phenolic coated, roller supplied by ROCOL® Site Safety Systems for applying SAFE STEP®100.2. Pour a pool of the mixed product onto the prepared substrate.3. Roll material in one direction only, towards body in slow straight strokes using moderate pressure on the handle. Do not over-roll toomany times or press down too heavily.4. For maximum effect, rolling should be carried out perpendicular to the direction of traffic. Roll across ramps not down.Trowel ApplicationTrowelled applications provide excellent anti-slip characteristics with a rough textured finish.1. Use a flexible bladed plasterer’s finishing trowel approximately 10 x 30 cm. Wetting trowel with xylene will help improve surface finish.2. Pour a pool of SAFE STEP® 100 onto the prepared surface.3. Hold the trowel at 45 degrees angle to the surface. Pull material towards body with a sweeping motion reversing the angle on theopposite stroke.Spray ApplicationSprayed applications will result in a uniform appearance with good anti-slip characteristics and is an ideal method for large areas.There are two types of spray equipment recommended for spraying SAFE STEP®100. The choice depends on the size of the area to be coated.Hopper Gun (for small areas up to 50m2)Gun Type: Gravity fed hopper gun incorporating a 5mm nozzle, 5-litre hopper and elbow adapter for aiming at the floor.Air supply: 40-60psi air pressure. Ensure the air is oil free.Spray the product in a linear motion at a distance of 40cm from the surface with an overlap of approximately 30%.To clean equipment use xylene immediately after use.Pressure Pot Sprayer (for large areas over 50m2)Machine type: bottom outlet pressure pot nominally 30-50 litre capacity equipped with a double regulator and air driven agitator.Air supply: typically 50cubic feet per minute.Fluid pressure: typically 2-3 bar (30-45 psi)Fluid hose: 25mm diameter bore reinforced pvc pipeAtomising air pressure: typically 3-4 bar (45-60 psi)Tip diameter: 6mmFluid inlet to receive 25cm bore diameter PVC pipe. Air inlet to receive a 6mm-diameter airline.With the spray nozzle removed and atomising air isolated slowly build up the fluid pressure to allow product to flow along the fluid pipe and through the gun into a container. This is done to prime the pipelines and remove any air. Note the pressure reading when the product is just flowing easily (i.e. jet of material reaching 40-50cm from gun). Switch off the air supply. Replace the spray nozzle and then rebuild the fluidpressure to the noted reading. Once product is flowing out of the nozzle begin to increase the atomising air pressure at the gun. As this pressure is built up the flow of product will form a spray pattern.It is essential to match up the atomising air with the product fluid pressure, i.e. if the spray gun is not forming a spray pattern then there is not enough atomising air for the flow-rate. This can be remedied in one of two ways:1. Reduce fluid pressure.2. Increase atomising pressure.Once an even spray pattern is achieved spraying can commence in a linear manner with approximately 30% overlap on each pass.All components of the machine should be cleaned with xylene solvent immediately after use.Surface MaintenanceIt is essential that the SAFE STEP®100 coating is cleaned regularly to maximise anti-slip performance. The use of a water-based biodegradable detergent cleaner and a long handled fibre bristled brush or a suitable floor cleaning machine is recommended. After cleaning the surface should be rinsed thoroughly with clean water and allowed to dry.LimitationsHigher temperatures will shorten drying time and conversely, lower temperatures and high relative humidity will lengthen drying time. Exterior applications must be protected from rain for at least 12 - 24 hours after application according to humidity. Protect from heavy rain or extended exposure to water, oil and chemicals for 5 to 7 days. Although extremely durable, SAFE STEP® 100 is not a permanent coating and will require occasional touching up, especially in heavily trafficked areas.Health & SafetyRefer to Safety Data Sheet before use. The edge of a carbon stay maybe higher than the matching contour of the forged part.Additionally, you will notice that the carbon stays are not sanded, painted, or clear coated. Again, the carbon staysappear as they would straight out of the clean molds. Youmay even see the mold parting lines in the stays. Here again, itmakes more sense to refrain from painting over the chain andseat stays since they are designed to flex, and that fact wouldcause paint to crack.Imperfect looking bond gaps or alignment are not structuraldefects. However, during regular frame inspection, it isimportant that you inspect for cracks in parts or relativemovement between them. Thetwo antennae are positioned this way to achieve the best pick-up reception.1.3Setting up1.Place the NE 100 diversity receiver in the same room or area as the transmitters. Ensurethat the NE 100 is installed as close as possible to the mixing console or amplifier so that all indications can be seen at all times.2.Do not place the NE 100 diversity receiver near digitally controlled equipment.3.Connect the XLR-output (6) to the corresponding input of the mixing console or amplifier.Using the output level control (5) you can adjust the gain.4.Make sure the mains voltage shown on the power supply unit corresponds to the localmains voltage.5.Connect the power supply unit to the receiver and to AC power. The receiver has noseparate On/Off switch. The power On / Mute LED (2) is illuminated red.6.To adjust the input gain turn the squelch control (4) to maximum.7.If the On/Mute LED (2) is illuminated green when there is no transmitter switched on, thereis RF noise present. Turn the squelch control (4) counter clockwise to minimum until the RF noise is disappeared.8.As soon as you switch on the transmitter, the On/Mute LED (2) should go out and thediversity LEDs (3) indicate which antenna input is active.1.4Diversity Indication of the Receiving ChannelThe NE 100 has two separate receiving circuits for each of the antennae A and B. The signal with the better S/N ratio is silently switched to the output. The received diversity channelA orB is shown on the LEDs (3).1.5SquelchSwitch off the transmitter before you change the squelch. Now the receiver should be muted. If it is not, then slowly adjust the squelch (4) until all unwanted signals are muted. Assoon as the receiver has been muted, the On/Mute LED (2) is illuminated red. Setting the leveltoo high, however, will reduce the range of your system.Squelch control (4) to the left = minimum rangeSquelch control (4) to the right = maximum range - Caution: Interferences can occur!17181.6Setting the GainFirst adjust the gain of your transmitter (only TS 100; refer to chapter 3.3). Once the transmitter gain is optimised, it is necessary to match the receiver’s output gain to your mixing console or PA system. Adjust the gain control (5). Setting the gain too high may cause distor-tion.1.7Mounting NE 100 into ZTE 100/200 Mounting Bracket•For mounting the NE 100 receiver into the ZTE 100/200 mounting bracket the NE 100 has one hole on the right and on the left side at the bottom.•The NE 100 can be mounted into the ZTE 100/200in two ways.•If the receiver is to be mounted further to the back refer to illustration 1.•If the receiver is to be mounted further to the front refer to illustration 2.•The ZTE 100/200 is supplied with 2 screws for mounting the NE 100 into the ZTE 100/200and 4 screws for 19"-rack mounting.NE 100NE 100ZTE 100/200ZTE 100/200Illustration 1Illustration 2Microphone head (fixed) Battery compartmentPower On battery condition LED On/Off switchMute switch2.2Setting up1.Switch on the NE 100 receiver.2.Rotate the microphone under the microphone head (1) counter clockwise and carefullyslide the transmitter shaft down. Insert two 1.5 V alkaline batteries (AAA type - micro).Observe the polarity marks.3.Slide the transmitter into the shaft again and rotate the microphone clockwise to lock.4.Switch on the microphone by switching the On/Off switch (4) to the “On” position. ThePower On battery condition LED (3) is illuminated. If the transmitter is properly working one of the diversity LEDs of the NE 100 receiver should be illuminated.5.Make sure that the mute switch (5) is switched to the “Off” position. The mute switch (5)is for muting the transmitter during pauses of speech. Please note that the microphone is still consuming power when it is muted.6.When the battery capacity is too low for operation, the power on battery condition LED (3)will flash for around 1 hour before the transmitter switches off (LED (3) goes out).e n glis h 19207.To avoid popping, try holding the microphone at a slight angle below your mouth.8.To avoid covering the integrated antenna by your hand, do not hold the microphone atthe microphone head as this could reduce the transmission strength. Furthermore, feedback can occur.2.3MaintenanceProtect the microphone from humidity, knocks and shock. Avoid dropping the micro-phone at all times.If your microphone sounds dull, clean the integrated foam pop shield. To do this, follow the instructions below.•SDM 169:Unscrew the microphone upper basket counter clockwise.SDM 159, SEM 181:Unscrew the whole microphone basket clockwise.•Pull out the foam pop shield and clean it under clear running water. If necessary, use a mildwashing-up liquid. Dry it afterwards with a hairdryer or allow it to dry overnight.•Place the dry pop shield inside the microphone basket and replace the microphone basketby screwing it on clockwise or counter clockwise.3.TS 100 Beltpack Transmitter 3.1Controls and Indicators(1)Mute switch(2)red Peak LED (audio)(3)Gain control (audio)(4)Connection for microphones / instruments, 3.5 mm stereo jack (female), screw-type (5)green Power On battery condition LED (6)On / Off switch (7)Antenna(8)Battery compartment3.2Setting up1.Open the battery compartment (8) by pulling the cover downwards. Insert a 9 V alkalinebattery or rechargeable battery observing the polarity +/- marks.2.Connect the supplied microphone or instrument cable to the jack socket (4).3.Switch on the beltpack transmitter by switching the On / Off switch (6) to the “On” position.The power on battery condition LED (5) is illuminated green when the battery has been inserted correctly and has full capacity. If the transmitter is properly working, one of the diversity LEDs of the NE 100 receiver should be illuminated.4.Make sure that the mute switch (1) is switched to the “Off” position. The mute switch (1)is for muting the transmitter during pauses of speech. Please note that the microphone is still consuming power when it is muted.5.When the battery capacity is too low for operation, the power on battery condition LED (5)will flash for around 1 hour before the transmitter switches off (LED (5) goes out).3.3Adjusting Input Gain1.Switch on the NE 100 diversity receiver.2.Switch the transmitter on by switching the On / Off switch (6) to the “On” position. Turnthe gain control (3) to minimum sensitivity (fully counter clockwise).3.If you have no suitable sound source, you can speak into the microphone at the maximumlevel you expect to use. We recommend you choose a “U”, because a spoken “U” has a relatively good sine-shape. Turn the gain control (3) clockwise until the peak LED (2) does not illuminate or should only flash momentarily during the loudest passages.Important:There are various microphones available for the TS 100. As their characteristics vary, the sensitivityhas to be re-adjusted with each change of microphone.4.General Instructions for all Transmitters4.1Battery Change•Switch the transmitter off before changing the battery (On / Off switch to the “Off” position).•If you do not intend to use the transmitter for several weeks or months, please remove the battery as it can leak after some time and damage parts of the transmitter. Even “leak proof” batteries are no guarantee that they will not leak after some time. Failing to comply will render the warranty null and void.•Different brands of batteries may vary in length of up to 2 - 3 mm. When you change the battery make sure there is a good contact and adjust the spring in the battery compartment if necessary.•Clean the battery contacts from time to time. Use a soft cloth or cotton swab moistened with methylated spirits or alcohol.•Please do not throw used battery packs away with your household rubbish, but take them to your local collection points.•When using rechargeable batteries use conventional chargers.21224.2Before the Soundcheck1.Make sure that the transmitter and receiver are on the same frequency (refer to typeplate).2.Check the transmitter battery and replace or recharge it if necessary. Use fresh alkalinebatteries only.3.Check the performance area for dropouts (i.e. areas where poor reception is encountered).If you find any dropouts try to eliminate them by repositioning the antennae or the receiver.4.Adjust the sensitivity of the receiver and beltpack transmitter correctly to avoid distortions.5.Try and avoid feedback, especially when you use omnidirectional microphones (e.g. MCE 50).4.3What to do about FeedbackFeedback is caused when the microphone is too close to a loudspeaker.We recommend:•Reduce the volume of the sound system.•Move away from the loudspeaker.•Turn the microphone away from the loudspeaker.•Use a microphone with a cardioid, hypercardioid or supercardioid polar pattern.Caution:Feedback can also be caused if the sensitivity has been adjusted too high. In this case the transmitter is no longer working in the linear range, but in the limiter range. Therefore, if the level of the input sound drops, the gain is increased and feedback can occur. Turning down the input sensitivity of the transmitter to the correct position will prevent this from happening.5.Trouble Shooting5.1NE 100 Diversity Receiver•Power supply is interrupted. The U6 chip translates USB to I 2C.When using Aardvark, remove jumpers JP1 and JP2 and connect the Aardvark to connector J2. Default I 2C device address for the 9FGV100x is 0x68.Miscellaneous interfaces can connect to J2 pin 1 for the Serial Clock and to J2 pin 3 for the Serial Data signal. J2 pin 2 can be used as ground, but any other ground pin will also work.When OTP in the 9FGV100x devices is burned with multiple configurations, JP1 and JP2 can be applied in JP3 position respectively to connect the SEL0 and SEL1 switches in U2. Move switch 8 to “+” and power-up the 9FGV100x in Hardware Select mode. This enables changing between 4 configurations with SEL0/1.Table 2. The board can also be modified to insert an external reference clock into the XIN pin using SMA connector S11. When using an external reference clock, additional components need to be assembled and the crystal needs to be removed.Output TerminationsEach differential output has a pair of SMA connectors to connect to a 50Ω coax. It is recommended to combine the two signals using a balun or splitter/combiner device when measuring jitter or phase noise. The circuit at the SMA connectors is shown in Figure 4.Figure 4. Default assembly uses a 0.1μF capacitor in place of R14 and R16, and the short across R14 and R16 is cut. No other devices are assembled. This simple AC-coupled configuration allows for testing phase noise and jitter of all possible logic types. The circuit can be modified for custom tests. SZ-100Particle Size AnalyzerAN206 Using the SZ-100 Autotitrator to fi nd Isoelectric Point (IEP)The isoelectric point, IEP, of a colloidal system is determined automatically with the SZ-100 and Autotitrator from HORIBA Instruments. Zeta potential data as a function of pH is collected while the author is drinking coffee and writing support documents.IntroductionZeta potential is the charge on a particle at the shear plane. This value of surface charge is useful for understanding and predicting interactions between particles in suspension. A large magnitude (either positive or negative), that is, over about 25 mV, zeta potential is generally considered an indication that the particle suspension will be electrostatically stabilized. Zeta potential can be measured with the HORIBA SZ-100-Z shown in Figure 1.Figure 1: SZ-100 Nanoparticle AnalyzerZeta potential is a function of both the particle surface chemistry and the suspending medium chemistry (1). The ions that are at the particle surface and controlling surface potential are a function of the concentration and nature of the ions in the bulk liquid. In addition, the concentration of ions affects the distance over which charge effects persist. For example, a signifi cant amount of dissolved salt will shield the electrostatic interactions between particles. Some ions, known as specifi c ions will prefer to stick to the particle surface as the concentration of these ions increases. Examples of specifi c ions include H+ and polyvalent ions. In this work, the effect of H+ concentration on particle surface charge is studied. Other examples on the effect of various ion concentrations can be found in (2) and (3). T ypically, and for good reason, H+ concentration is discussed in terms of pH. pH has a strong effect on the surface charge of many types of particles. In addition, pH is a parameter that is often and readily changed in a formulation. For these reasons, the effect of pH on particle surface charge is often studied. One number that characterizes a surface is the isoelectric point, IEP, or point of zero charge, PZC, which refers to the conditions, often pH, at which the particle surface charge is zero. At pH values lower than the IEP, the particle surface charge is positive and at pH values higher than the IEP, the particle surface charge is negative. One rule of thumb for stable suspensions is to ensure that the pH is one full pH unit away from the IEP. Values of IEP are obtained by measuring the zeta potential as a function of pH and identifying the pH at which the zeta potential value crosses zero. In most cases this is achieved by interpolating the experimental data. T extbook values of IEP are often not useful for practical work since the value of IEP can change dramatically with even a small amount of impurity that is driven to the sample surface. IEP measurement results can also be affected by incomplete particle surface wetting or by the choice of surfactants. For example, adding TSPP to a metal oxide suspension will cause the IEP to shift to extremely low pH values or disappear altogether. For these reasons, IEP values are typically measured and that is a process that can be automated. The automation of isoelectric point measurement is achieved with the HORIBA Autotitrator accessory for theFigure 2:Autotitrator accessory for the SZ-100Page 2/2SZ-100 shown in Figure 2. The Autotitrator automatically adds acid or base to adjust the pH of the sample, records pH, and loads the sample into the graphite electrode cell in the SZ-100. Zeta potential is then determined and the cycle is automatically repeated for the next pH in the series.Materials and Methods Arti fi cial coffee creamer was diluted until slightly cloudy in DI water. Sample pH was automatically decreased to pH 2 and then increased stepwise with the HORIBA Autotitrator. Zeta potential was measured with the reusable graphite electrode cell in the HORIBA SZ-100Z nanoparticle analyzer. Sample pH was measured with the HORIBA 9621C temperature-compensated pH electrode. In this study, 100 mM nitric acid and 100 mM sodium hydroxide were used as the acid and base reagents respectively. The Autotitrator reagent containers include provision for molecular sieve treatment of incoming air that replaces removed titrant. The 5 mL burettes precisely deliver the reagents without bubbles eliminating the need for degassing. The smallest reagent dose that can be delivered manually is 0.0025 mL. The Autotitrator was set up in the software via a wizard type interface as shown in Figure 3 below. T he available manual mode was not used in this study.Figure 3: Screen Shot of Autotitratorsetup screen in the software.The pH probe was fi lled and calibrated using HORIBA standard solution set 101-S. After cleaning, it was held in place over the sample beaker with an integrated ring stand. The integrated stir plate mixed the sample as reagent was automatically delivered. When the target pH was reached, a peristaltic pump rinsed the zeta potential cell and delivered the sample for measurement. The zeta potential was measured in triplicate and pH monitored for drift during measurement. Then, the cycle was repeated for the next pH in the series.Results and DiscussionThe zeta potential of the coffee powder suspension as a function of pH is shown in Figure 3 below. From pH 2 to pH3, the zeta potential value of the coffee creamer emulsion increases. This is probably due to speci fi c shifts in the structure of the emulsion at low pH. From pH 3 to pH 11, the shape of the curve is the classical backwards S shape. At low pH, the particle charge is positive due to the large H + ion concentration. At high pH, the particle charge is negative due to the large OH- ion concentration. The obtained valueof the isoelectric point where the zeta potential crosses frompositive to negative is at pH 5. Finally, there is a decreasein the magnitude of the zeta potential between pH 11 and pH 13. This is either due to another structural shift in the emulsion or due to the shielding effect of the increased number of ions in the suspension. The main point of this plot is that the isoelectric point of this system is at pH 5.Figure 4: Screen shot of results of automatic titrationresults with the SZ-100 and Autotitrator.ConclusionsThe IEP of a suspension can be automatically determined using the HORIBA SZ-100 and the HORIBA Autotitrator.
