2019年浙江省名校新高考研究联盟(Z20联盟)联考高考英语二模试卷一、阅读理解(本大题共10小题,共25.0分)AForty-three years seems like a long time to remember the name of a mere acquaintance.I have forgotten the name of an old lady who was a customer on my paper route.Yet it seems like just yesterday that she taught me a lesson in forgiveness. On a Saturday afternoon,a friend and I were throwing rocks onto the roof of the old lady's house. The object of our play was to observe how the rocks changed to missiles (导弹)as they rolled to the roof's edge and shot out into the yard like comets (彗星)falling from the sky.I found myself a perfectly smooth rock and sent it for a ride. However,it slipped from my hand as I let it go and headed straight for a small window. At the sound of crashed glass,we knew we were in trouble and ran away.A few days later, when I was sure that I hadn't been discovered,I started to feel guilty for her misfortune. She still greeted me with a smile each day when I gave her the paper, but I was no longer able to act comfortably in her presence.I made up my mind to save my paper delivery money, and in three weeks I had the seven dollars that I calculated would cover the cost of her window.I put the money in an envelope with a note, and put the envelope through the letter slot in her door. The next day,I handed the old lady her paper and was able to return the warm smile that I was receiving from her.She thanked me for the paper and said,"Here,I have something for you." It was a bag of cookies.I thanked her and began to eat the cookies as I continued my route. After several cookies,I felt an envelope and pulled it out of the bag. When I opened the envelope,I was surprised.Inside were the seven dollars and a short note that said,"I'm proud of you."1.What was the author forty-three years ago?______A. A repairman.2.We can learn from the text that the author ______ .A. broke the window by mistakeB. avoided the old lady for several daysC. acted as usual after breaking the windowD. felt guilty the moment he broke the window3.The old lady wrote "I'm proud of you" because she thought the author was brave enough______ .A. to do experiments with smooth rocksB. to earn money to support his own lifeC. to admit his own mistake and make up for itD. to put an envelope with a note through the letter slotBAfter retirement,Michael Kennedy could have chosen to take walks around his seaside home.Instead, the former mechanical engineer engaged himself in the toughest task of his life - keeping the thundering waves of the Norfolk coast. The 73-year-old has spent the past 14 years building his own sea wall at Hunstanton, piling up rocks picked from the sandy beach to slow the erosion (侵蚀)of the soft limestone (石灰岩)and chalk cliffs. It's estimated that Michael has shifted 200 tons of stone in the last14years."It's a real labour of love because I come down here whatever the weather,in spring, summer, autumn and winter," said the divorced father of two."It keeps me fit and I love it."Mr Kennedy moved to the area after retiring from the London Underground.Nicknamed Fred Flintstone by locals,he tries to move at least 40 pounds of rocks in two-hour sessions which he finishes by 2 pm.Everything he collects is placed into piles at the foot of the cliffs.Larger rocks go at the bottom to provide the main line of defence and smaller ones are placed at the top.He also picks up rubbish and prides himself on having created a spotless,stone-free sandy beach for holidaymakers to enjoy. The work goes on six days a week.Saturdays are his day off so that the Chelsea "fanatic" can watch football and other sports. However, there are signs that he is becoming a victim of his own success,as the number of stones has dwindled significantly in recent months."It's confusing,Mr Kennedy said."Usually every year the stones just come in with the sea but this year we haven't had any." He added,"I hope to still be doing it when I'm 100 but perhaps just four days a week instead of six."Town mayor Peter Mallam said Mr Kennedy had become "quite a local legend"."It's fascinating.Everyone knows of the old guy who collects the stones. He's done a sterling effort."4.What do we know about the sea wall built by Michael Kennedy?______A. Whether Kafka's manuscripts were legal.B. Which country Kafka's manuscripts belonged to.C. Who could decide the fate of Kafka's manuscripts.D. Whether Hoffe could publish Kafka's manuscripts.9.Kafka's will was to ______ .A. have his manuscripts destroyedB. donate his works to a public archiveC. transfer his manuscripts to Esther HoffeD. leave some of his properties to his daughters10.Why could Kafka earn a place in the 20th-century literature?______A. It takes most people four or five hours to finish.By the age of 30, Lea Tambellini had run more than five marathons and had no plans to stop. She had always been an athlete. When she was in high school, she swam on her school's swim team and ran to stay healthy and active. Her mom and dad ran marathons, and when she was 22, they helped her train for her first marathon.Lea's first marathon took place in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was called "The Flying Pig". "I was very nervous" she said, "but I had my mom there, so that helped. "Running the race was hard, but the hardest part was when she ran past a cookie factory and smelled cookies at mile 18."I just wanted to be done, "she said. "TAL#NBSP I was spent, but my mom kept me going. It was already her 15th marathon."Today, thousands of people run marathons every year. Runners train for months to get ready. Some kids in our society have almost no time left to themselves, often because their parents are overscheduled themselves, or their parents are so concerned about kids' achievements that the kids are constantly doing some structured activities. Some parents want their kids to constantly be working on their personal portfolios(文件包) so they can get into college, prep school or preschool. But if kids don't have any down time, they'll burn out quickly. You'd be amazed at how much kids mature, learn and improve when they are given time to just be. Kids need to learn what it is like to be bored and how to entertain themselves. They need time to play with all of those presents they just got from the holiday. They need to make mistakes on their own, discover new ways to do things and nurture their interests and talents. This is called learning. In our house, eating, sleeping mostly), and a few chores and schoolwork are fairly structured. There are occasional errands and playdates, appointments and scout meetings. But most days, our kids have several hours in which they choose what to do. We guide them toward positive ways to spend time, but for the most part, they get to choose. I think this is a healthy thing.I won't go so far as to say that parents who overschedule their kids are stealing their kids' childhoods. I'm sure those kids are getting to do some great things that not every other kid gets to do. But the kids are missing out on a vital piece of childhood: running amok (横冲直撞), not necessarily running all over town on their own, but having time that is theirs, that they get to organize and fill. Kids need to learn how to make choices and learn about the bad and good consequences that come along with their choices.(1) Why are the kids constantly doing some structured activities?A. They like structured activities very much.B. Their parents expect them to achieve more.C. Their parents are worried about their safety.D. Structured activities suit children's interests.(2) Which of the following sayings can convey the closest meaning of the underlined sentence in the first paragraph?A. No pains, no gains.B. Look before you leap.C. Honesty is the best policy.D. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.(3) In the writer's opinion, the kids.A. should be guided to learnB. should do some great thingsC. should have time that is theirsD. should be allowed to run all over town(4) The main purpose of the passage is to.A. concern the healthy growth of kidsB. provide evidence of how kids liveC. criticize parents on unwise parentingD. give a lecture on kids' time management3、【来源】 2019年浙江高三上学期高考模拟(C篇)第28~30题7.5分Do we organize our thoughts in different ways because of the culture we belong to? If it is so, how can we describe those differences? The idea of different "cultural thought patterns" was first put forward by an American professor, Robert Kaplan, in the 1960s. He had been looking at the writing style of non-native students at his university in California. He found that the writing style changed systematically, according to the cultural origins of the students. For example, in his opinion, native speakers of English usually went "straight to the point" However, speakers of Semitic languages(such as Arabic and He brew)kept back tracking, and then returned to the point. Speakers of oriental languages (such as Chinese)were likely to approach the topic only little by little, as if they were moving around it in circled. Speakers of Romance languages(such as French and Spanish)were likely to stay away from the point, making it harder for readers to follow. Speakers of slap languages(such as Russian)often included ideas which didn't seem to be connected in any way to the development of the article. This view attracted a lot of attention as soon as it was expressed. People said it was not based on enough evidence at all, and it was TAL#NBSP biased because it was in supports English(which seemed to offer the "most useful" way of presenting the point of view). Russian students, in particular, did not agree with the idea Kaplan had of them. But Kaplan's work at least reminded us that people from different cultural backgrounds do have different ways of presenting ideas, or telling stories, and that, even if these differences are difficult, and perhaps impossible to sort out, just knowing that they exist can help us to understand and appreciate each other better.(1) What is the author' s purpose in writing Paragraph 2?A. To present his own idea.B. To introduce Robert Kaplan.C. To draw readers to the topic.D. To provide examples of the topic.(2) What does the underlined word "biased" in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A. Wrong.B. Usual.C. Direct.D. Humorous.(3) Which of the following is the best title for the text?A. Thinking across culturesB. Skills for speaking wellC. Reading between linesD. 浙江省2019届高三英语高考模拟卷(八)

浙江省2019届高三英语高考模拟卷(八)一、阅读理解(共3题;共10分)1.(3分)阅读理解“That one looks just like a sheep! And look over there. That one looks like a horse!”Do you remember lying on your back in a grassy field on a summer afternoon, discovering the soft shapes in the clouds in the sky? Those were the good old days when you could see anything and everything in the clouds. But now people look at the sky and see clouds in the shape of a motor company's advertising logo (商标),or a message inviting them to go out and buy a certain brand(品牌)of beer. These cloud pictures are not products of their imaginations.Instead, they are produced by a machine. These new floating advertisements are called Flogos;the name stands for“floating logos.”They're made from a mixture of soapy foam(泡沫)and a lighter-than-air gas such as helium, and they can be made into different sizes and shapes depending on the advertisement.Flogos can last up to an hour if weather conditions are good, and they can fly several kilometers high.Advertisers can rent a Flogo machine for$2,500a day.The set-up is normally performed within1to2 hours, and it will release four Flogos per minute.Advertisers can fill the air with any shape or message they want. Some people are worried that the Flogos might not be pollution-free.However,the Flogo's inventor insists that the soap he uses is natural, and that a Flogo just dissipates in the air, leaving nothing behind. Though it may be true that Flogos are environmentally friendly, some people believe that the natural clouds in our memory may be replaced by man-made ones. They are afraid that soon there will be nowhere left where their imaginations can float freely.(1)(1分)The author mentions the animal-like clouds to show that.A.clouds remind us of the good old daysB.clouds can become any interesting shapeC.weather conditions were much better in the pastD.people observed the sky more carefully in the old days(2)(1分)What does the underlined word“dissipates”in the last paragraph mean? They litter beaches, block waterways, and fill up garbage dumps. As they end up in landfills, they do not break down easily and may last for a long, long time.On June 15, McDonald's announced that it will make a big move against plastic straws. Some McDonald's restaurants in the United States will stop using plastic straws. They are going to test out straws made of other materials." McDonald's gives out millions of straws every day. Customers use their straws once and then they just throw them away, which is very wasteful, "" Francesca debase who is a top leader of McDonald's said." Most importantly, McDonald's hopes this shift will support industry-wide change and be a fine example to other large businesses."McDonald's has restaurants around the world and is already trying paper straws in Europe. It started using them in Belgium. Next, it will give them out in the United Kingdom. Ireland will get paper straws, too. Later this year, McDonald's will start trying them in other countries. France, Sweden and Norway will test them. In Malaysia, McDonald's is trying something different. Malaysia is a country in Asia. Customers there can get a plastic straw but they will have to ask for it.Other companies are also getting rid of plastic straws. The cruise company, Royal Caribbean, promised to get rid of plastic straws. So did Alaska Airlines. Governments are also taking action. California may pass a new law that will ban plastic straws in restaurants and New York City may pass this law, too.Eric Goldstein works for an environmental advocacy group called the Natural resource Defense Council. He said, "McDonald's is a huge company. It took an important step, showing that people care and worry about the issue." Maybe McDonald's should have stopped earlier. It is better late than never, Mr. Goldstein said.(1) Why does McDonald's try to stop using plastic straws?A. Because it can contribute to keeping costs down.B. Because it wants to set an example in environmental protection.(2) Where are McDonald's restaurants already testing paper straws?A. In Malaysia.B. In Belgium.C. In Sweden.D. Engineers began building the bell tower in Italy in 1173. It took more than 200 years to finish. It was built on unexpectedly soft ground and the tower began to lean before it was done. The mistake has made the building one of the world's strange sights. How can something so unstable last for hundreds of years? The tower has survived two world wars, millions of visitors, and four strong earthquakes. Engineering Professor George Mylonakis wanted to know why. He studied the ground beneath the building and looked at how soil affects the building and how well it stands up.Mylonakis and other engineers came up with an answer about the tower. The answer has something to do with the soft ground under the tower. The engineers found other important reasons, too. The tower is very tall and is made of stone that makes it TAL#NBSP stiff. Its height and firmness combined with the softness of the foundation soil cause the vibrational(振动的)characteristics of the structure to be improved considerably in such a way that the tower does not resonate(共振)with earthquake ground motion. So during an earthquake, the tower does not shake as much as the earth under it.Still, Mylonakis said the tower had almost fallen since it continued to lean more as the soft ground settled under it. In the early 1990 s, it was in real danger of falling and the Italian government closed the tower to visitors and started to save it. Crews gradually began to take out small amounts of soil from thehigh north side. With less soil under it, that side of the tower sank slightly. Engineers also fixed equipment that allows them to make adjustments to the water pressure beneath the tower, further controlling how much the tower leans. The building still leans. It just leans a bit less than before. Most importantly, the tower is no longer in danger. John Burland worked on the project to save the tower. He said it is highly unlikely the soft ground under the tower will cause it to fall and that only a very large earthquake would knock down the tower.(1) Why did George Mylonakis study the Leaning Tower of Pisa?A. To find out why it leans.B. To explore why it still stands.C. To call on people to save it.D. To research the soft ground under it.(2) What does the underlined word "stiff " in Paragraph 2 refer to?A. Shake.B. Sinking.C. Solid.D. Splendid.(3) What measure was taken to save the tower in the early 1990s?A. Limit the number of visitors.B. Remove soils from two sides.C. Monitor the amount of soil water.D. Make the tower lower in the north.(4) What do John Burland's words suggest in the last paragraph?A. The tower is safe in most cases.B. The tower still leans in danger.C. The tower may fall due to the soft ground.D. The tower will stand even if large earthquakes hit.二、七选五(共5小题,每小题5分,共10分)4、【来源】 2019年浙江高三下学期高考模拟第31~35题10分(每题2分)How to get better at sports Sports are a great way to stay physically active and have fun.
