英语写作2考试试卷A适用专业: 考试时间:考试时间:120分钟 闭卷 试卷总分:100分(答案请写在答题纸上)Part I. Summary Writing (20 %):Directions: Read the following passage. Write a summary of about 80 words. The “Hawthorne Effect ”, one of the best-known experiments in sociology was conducted before World War II at the Hawthorne plant of Western Electric. The management was eager to improve productivity and wanted to know what kind of incentives would encourage the workers to increase output. The researcher who investigated the problem, Elton Mayo, separated a group of women from the other workers and systematically varied lighting, coffee breaks, lunch hours, methods of payment, and so on. At first, Mayo and his associates were delighted: each new change increased levels of productivity. But when the researchers found that productivity rose no matter which variables were involved, they became suspicious. When the workers were finally returned to their original conditions, their productivity rose yet again! Something was seriously wrong with the researchers ’ theoretical assumptions. Whatever had caused the changes in the dependent variable —productivity —it was not the independent variables the experimenters had introduced, and from this point of view the experiment was a failure. But the reasons for the experiment ’s failure have taught sociologists a great deal. Production rose, it seems, because the women enjoyed all the attention they were getting: they became a tight-knit, cooperative group, they knew what effects the sociologists were trying to produce, and they did their best to please. This phenomenon —the contamination of the experiment by the subjects ’ assumptions about what the sociologist is trying to prove —is still known as the Hawthorne effect. (239 words)Part II. Essay Appreciation (35%)Directions: Read the following essay and answer the questions. The Hazards of MoviegoingI am a movie fanatic. My friends count on me to know movie trivia (who was the pigtailed little girl in E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial? Drew Barrymore) and to remember every big Oscar awarded since I was in grade school (best picture 1994? Forrest Gump). My friends, though, have stopped asking me if I want to go out to the movies. While I love movies as much as ever, the inconvenience of going out, the temptations of the theatre, and the behavior of some patrons are reasons for me to wait and rent the video. To begin with, I just don ’t enjoy the general hassle of the evening. Since small local movie theaters are a thing of the past, I have to drive for fifteen minutes to get to the nearest multiplex. The parking lot is shared with several restaurants and a supermarket, so it ’s always jammed. I have to drive around at a snail ’s pace until I spot another driver backing out. Then it ’s time to stand in an endless line, with theconstant threat that tickets for the show I want will sell out. If we do get tickets, the theater will be so crowded that I won ’t be able to sit with my friends, or we ’ll have to sit in a front row gaping up at a giant screen, I have to shell out a ridiculous amount of money —up to $8—for a ticket. That entitles me to sit while my shoes seal themselves to a sticky floor coated with spilled soda, bubble gum, and crushed Raisinets.Second, . Like most of us, I have to battle an expanding waistline. At home I do pretty well by simply not buying stuff that is bad for me. I can make do with snacks like celery and carrot sticks because there is no ice cream in the freezer. Going to the theater, however, is like spending my evening in a Seven-Eleven that ’s been equipped with a movie screen and comfortable seats. As I try to persuade myself to just have a diet Coke, the smell of fresh popcorn dripping with butter soon overcomes me. Chocolate bars the size of small automobiles seem to jump into my hands. I risk pulling out my fillings as I chew enormous mouthfuls of Milk Duds. By the time I leave the theater, I feel disgusted with myself. Many of the other patrons are even more of a problem than the concession stand. Little kids race up and down the aisles, usually in giggling packs. Teenagers try to impress their friends by talking back to the screen, whistling, and making what they consider to be hilarious noises. Adults act as if they were at home in their own living room. They comment loudly on the ages of the stars and reveal plot twists that are supposed to be a secret until the film ’s end. And people of all ages create distractions. They crinkle candy wrappers, stick gum on their seats, and drop popcorn tubs or cups of crushed ice and soda on the floor. They also cough and burp, squirm endlessly in their seats, file out for repeated trips to the rest rooms or concession stands, and elbow me out of the armrest on either side of my seat. After arriving home from the movies one night, I decided that I was not going to be a moviegoer anymore.
剑桥雅思真题7—写作(Test 2 附高分范文)Writing Task 1You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.Write at least 150 words. 1:The graph illustrates changes in the amount of beef, lamb, chicken and fish consumed in a particular European country between 1979 and 2004.In 1979, beef consumption reached the highest point, with about 225 grams consumed per person per week. Lamb and chicken were consumed in similar quantities about 150 grams. However, fish consumption hit a low of 50 grams.Yet, the consumption of beef and lamb dropped sharply to nearly 100 grams respectively. There had been a stable pattern at 50 grams in the consumption of fish.In contrast, the consumption of chicken showed an upward trend, transcending that of lamb in 1980 and that of beef in 1989. Then this figure rose to a peak of about 250 in 2004.Overall, the line graph clearly showed the consumption of chicken rised rapidly while other foods decreased during this period. 2:The graph illustrates changes in the amounts of beef, lamb, chicken and fish consumed in a particular European country between 1979 and 2004.In 1979 beef was by far the most popular of these foods, with about 225 grams consumed per person per week. Lamb and chicken were eaten in similar quantities (around 150 grams), whilemuch less fish was consumed (just over 50 grams). However, during this 25-year period the consumption of beef and lamb fell dramatically to approximately 100 grams and 55 grams respectively. The consumption of fish also declined, but much less significantly to just below 50 grams, so although it remained the least popular food, consumption levels were the most stable. The consumption of chicken, on the other hand, showed an upward trend, overtaking that of lamb in 1980 and that of beef in 1989. By 2004 it had soared to almost 250 grams per person per week.Overall, the graph shows how the consumption of chicken increased dramatically while the popularity of these other foods decreased over the period. 3:The given line graph compares the fish and meat consumptions by the people of a European country from 1979 to 2004.As is presented in the graph, the consumption of chicken increased over the time while meats of different types were more preferred by people in the given European country than the fishes.According to the graph, more than 200 grams of beef was consumed daily by each person initially in 1979. In this year, each person on an average ate 150 grams of chicken and lambs while the consumption was just over 50 grams in this year. Over time people preferred chicken and the consumption kept on increasing and reached to over 250 grams per day by each person. The consumption of beef, lamb decreased over time and finally in 2004 the average consumption of these two meat types decreased to around 100 grams per person in a day. The amount consumed for fish remained almost same throughout the years and slightly decreased over time.In summary, people started consuming more chicken than beef and lamb and the fish consumption remained almost the same.Writing Task 2You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.Write about the following topic:Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.Write at least 250 words. (Band 7.5):Fixing punishments for each type of crime has been a debatable issue. There are many arguments supporting both views, those for and those against fixed punishments. On the one hand, fixed punishments will have a deterring effect on society. Individuals knowing that they will be subject to a certain punishment if they are convicted with a given crime, will reconsider committing this act in the first place. This deterring effect also leads to social stability and security, through minimizing the number of crime committed. If people knew they would be able to convince the court or the jury of a reason for having committed the crime they are accused of, penal decisions would be largely arbitrary. This wouldresult into criminals getting away with their crimes and into a high level of injustice caused by the subjective approach of different courts. On the other hand, taking the circumstances of a crime and its motivation into consideration is a prerequisite for establishing and ensuring justice and equity.A person killing in self-defense cannot be compared to a serial killer, moving from one victim to the next. In my opinion, an intermediary position between both solutions is the perfect way to establish and ensure justice and equity. There have to be fixed punishments for all crimes. However, criminal laws have to provide for a minimum and a maximum for the punishment and the laws also have to foresee certain cases of exemptions. An example for setting minimum and maximum penalties is Completion Law where a person being held liable of a crime under this law will be convicted to pay a fine, according to the harm caused by the violation and the profit gained by the violator through committing the crime. As for the exemptions, in some countries the law exempts thiefs stealing food during a period of famine taking into consideration the distress and hunger. Also, a person killing in self-defense will be exempted from punishment. This is a thoughtful and well-argued response to the task. The candidate examines the opposing views of the topic and gives a clear opinion that is well developed and supported. To reach the highest band a more clearly-signalled conclusion would be needed. The argument is well organised and linking is well managed throughout. The development of the answer is not helped however, by poor control of paragraphing which sometimes confuses the links across different sections. This is a weak feature of the script which limits the overall rating. In contrast, an excellent range of vocabulary is used with a sophisticated level of control and only rare slips. The range of structures is also wide and most sentences are accurate and precise, but there are some errors and omissions. These, however, are only minor and do not affect communication.。

Some people believe that technology has made our lives more complicated, while others feel that it has had the opposite effect. Discuss both sides and give your opinion. Technology has become an increasingly ubiquitous presence in our daily lives, and its impact on our wellbeing is a topic of much debate. While some individuals believe that technology has made our lives unnecessarily complex, many others argue that it has had a positive impact on our lives. This essay will examine both sides of the argument before drawing a conclusion. On the one hand, detractors of technology argue that it has made our lives more complicated. Firstly, they point out that social media and other forms of digital communication can be a source of stress, as people feel pressure to be constantly connected and responsive to messages. Secondly, they argue that the sheer amount of information available online is overwhelming, making it difficult to filter useful information from the noise. This can lead to anxiety and a feeling of being constantly bombarded with choices. However, supporters of technology argue that it has madeour lives easier and more convenient in a number of ways. For instance, technology has enabled us to work remotely, freeing us from the constraints of a fixed location and a rigid work schedule. Additionally, online shopping and the ability to access information from anywhere have become increasingly popular and convenient. Moreover, technology has enabled us to stay connected with friends, family and colleagues easily, even when separated by geography or time zones. In my opinion, while technology has certainly made our lives more complex in some ways, it has actually had a net positive impact on our wellbeing. The ability to communicate and access information from anywhere has given us greater choice and flexibility in our lives, and it has enabled us to work more efficiently and effectively. While it is true that some people may feel overwhelmed by the amount of information and communication options available through technology, this is ultimately a problem of moderation and self-control.In conclusion, while some people argue that technology has made our lives unnecessarily complicated, I believe that its benefits outweigh its disadvantages. Technology has had a positive impact on our lives by improving our ability to communicate, work, learn and stay connected, and it will continue to do so as long as we use it responsibly.。

Transient lunar phenomena(TLP)are relatively brief flashes of light that appear to come from the surface of the Moon.Such flashes of light have been observed for centuries by both amateur and professional astronomers, and several theories have been put forward to explain them. One theory is that TLP are not genuine lunar phenomena, but only random observational errors caused by defects in the telescopes some observers use. Optical instruments such as telescopes or microscopes are complex pieces of machinery;even small flaws in their design can create artificial optical impressions like flashes or other distortions in the visual field. To an observer, a flash of light caused by an instrument error may sometimes look like a real phenomenon taking place in nature.A second theory is that meteors striking the Moon cause TLP.Because the Moon has no atmosphere, meteors often reach the lunar surface. In fact, meteors strike the Moon every day.According to the meteor theory, when meteors strike the lunar surface, they explode, creating enough heat energy to appear as a flash of light to observers on Earth. When people observe TLP, they are actually observing flashes of light generated by meteor impacts.A third theory is that TLP are the result of lunar rocks emitting their own light by a process called thermoluminescence. It is known that the Moon does in fact contain certain rocks that are capable of generating light in this way when they are heated by the Sun.This is strong empirical support that TLP are caused by thermoluminescence. Unfortunately, none of the theories presented in the reading selection really explain TLP.First,if TLP observations were caused by random flaws in telescope design, then the reports of the TLP would be pretty random as well.Observers with flawed telescopes would probably report TLP happening at many random places on the moon surface, but that's not what observers have been reported. Most observers report TLP from two very specific locations on the moon surface.Since TLP are so closely associated with specific places on moon, they probably reflect real events happening on the moon, not flaws in telescopes.Second, about the meteor. The flashes of light that meteor impacts produce usually last just one second, but the average duration of a TLP is20minutes. It is true that meteor showers in which many meters are grouped together can occur on the Moon.So this could cause light flashes instead of a longer duration. But the vast majority of TLP are not reported during meteor showers. So,while it is possible that a few TLP are caused by meteor impacts, the great majority of TLP certainly have other causes.Third, could thermoluminescence cause TLP?Certain rocks on the moon do emit their own light. But this light is weaker than the glare of the moon's surface that we usually see when we observe the moon.As you know,we see the moon at night because its surface reflects light from the sun. Now,this reflected light is fairly bright and it is certainly much brighter than thermoluminescence of the moon's rocks. So we would not be able to see the thermoluminescence against this very bright background. It would be like trying to see the light from the candle in front of a powerful spotlight. So thermoluminescence cannot be the source of the observed TLP flashes.Question:Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific theories presented in the reading passage. Question:When a new technological device becomes available, some people buy it right away;others wait until many have adopted it.Which view do you agree with?Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.。
The topic of the IELTS Writing Task 2 is about the benefits and drawbacks of studying abroad. Studying abroad has become increasingly popular in recent years, and it offers many advantages. Firstly, studying abroad allows students to experience a new culture and broaden their horizons. Living in a foreign country exposes students to different customs, traditions, and ways of thinking, which can help them develop a global perspective and become more open-minded individuals. Secondly, studying abroad provides students with the opportunity to improve their language skills. Immersion in a foreign language environment forces students to communicate in the target language on a daily basis, which can significantly enhance their language proficiency. Lastly, studying abroad can also enhance career prospects. Employers often value candidates who have international experience, as it demonstrates adaptability, cultural awareness, and independence. However, there are also some drawbacks to studying abroad. Firstly, homesickness can be a major issue for many students. Being away from family and friends can be emotionally challenging, especially in the beginning. Students may feel lonely and isolated, and this can affect their overall well-being and academic performance. Secondly, studying abroad can be financially burdensome. Tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses in a foreign country can be expensive, and not all students have the financial means to support themselves. Lastly, studying abroad may also create a sense of disconnection from one's own culture and identity. Students may struggle with the clash of valuesand norms between their home country and the host country, which can lead to a sense of identity crisis.

In some countries, more and more people are becoming interestedin finding out about the history of the house or building they live in. What are the reasons for this? How can people research this?In recent years, there has been a growing trend among folks in certain countries to dig into the history of their abodes. Well, there are several groovy reasons for this curious phenomenon.First off, it's all about a sense of connection. People these days are like roots seeking plants. We all want to feel like we belong somewhere. Knowing the history of your house is like finding out about your family tree but for your living space. For example, if you discover that your house was once home to a famous artist or a heroic figure from the past, it gives you a special link to that era and a real feeling of pride. It's like your house has a story to tell, and you become a part of that story.Another nifty reason is the simple love for mystery and discovery. Humans are natural-born explorers. When we come home every day, we start to wonder what secrets those walls might be hiding. Maybe there were wild parties in the 1920s in the very living room where you now watch TV. Or perhaps a long lost treasure was once buried in the backyard. Unraveling these mysteries is like going on a mini adventure without even leaving your home. Now, let's talk about how one can actually do this research. One super cool way is to talk to the neighbors, especially the old timers. These guys are like walking history books. They might remember all kinds of juicy details about your house like who built it, when it was renovated last, andif there were any strange happenings. It's like having a free and friendly source of information right next door.Another great avenue is to check out local archives. These places are like time capsules filled with old maps, building permits, and newspaper clippings. You might find an old photo of your house looking all spiffy in the 1950s or a news article about some big event that took place there. And don't forget about the Internet. There are all sorts of websites and forums where people share stories about old buildings. You might just strike gold and find someone who has some inside scoop on your place. In conclusion, the trend of people getting interested in their house's history is a really fascinating one. It's driven by our need for connection and our love for discovery. And with a bit of legwork, chatting with neighbors, exploring local archives, and surfing the net, we can all uncover the hidden tales of our homes.。
