阅读理解A(2017·全国Ⅰ)A build—it-yourself solar still(蒸馏器) is one of the best ways to obtain drinking water in areas where the liquid is not readily available。

Developed by two doctors in the U.S.Department of Agriculture,it’s an excellent water collector.Unfortunately, you must carry the necessary equipment with you, since it’s all but impossible to find natural substitutes。

The only components required, though, are a 5’×5' sheet of clear or slightly milky plastic, six feet of plastic tube, and a container—perhaps just a drinking cup—to catch thewater. These pieces can be folded into a neat little pack and fastened on your belt.To construct a working still, use a sharp stick or rock to dig a hole four feet across and three feet deep。

Try to make the hole in a damp area to increase the water catcher’s productivity.Place your cup in the deepest part of the hole。

Because they are fun, and a lot more besides. Following the rules…planning your next move...acting as a team member…these are all “game” ideas that you will come across throughout your life.Think about some of the games you played as a young child, such as rope-jumping and hide-and-seek. Such games ar e entertaining and fun. But perhaps more importantly, they translate life into exciting dramas that teach children some of the basic rules they will be expected to follow the rest of their lives, such as taking turns and cooperating. Many children’s games have a practical side. Children around the world play games that prepare them for work they will do as grown-ups. For instance, some Saudi Arabian children play a game called bones. Which sharpens the hand-eye coordination (协调) needed in hunting. Many sports encourage national or local pride. The most famous games of all, the Olympic Games, bring athletes from around the world together to take part in friendly competition. People who watch the event wave flags, knowing that a gold medal is a win for an entire country, not just the athlete who earned it. For countries experiencing natural disasters or war, an Olympic win can mean so much.Sports are also an event that unites people. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. People on all continents play it—some for fun and some for a living. Nicolette Iribarne, a Californian soccer player, has discovered a way to spread hope through soccer. He created a foundation to provide poor children with not only soccer balls but also a promising future.Next time you play your favorite game or sport, think about why you enjoy it, what skills are needed, and whether these skills will help you in other aspects of your life.41. Through playing hide-and-seek, children are expected to learn to ______.A. be a team leaderB. obey the basic rulesC. act as a grown-upD. predict possible danger42. The underlined part in Paragraph 2 most probably means that games can______.A. describe life in an exciting wayB. turn real-life experiences into a playC. make learning life skills more interestingD. change people’s views of sporting events43. According to the passage, why is winning Olympic medals so encouraging?A. It inspires people’s deep love for the country.B. It proves the exceptional skills of the winners.C. It helps the country out of natural disasters.D. It earns the winners fame and fortune.44. Iribarne’s goal of forming the foundation is to ______.A. bring fun to poor kidsB. provide soccer balls for childrenC. give poor kids a chance for a better lifeD. appeal to soccer players to help poor kids45. What can be inferred from the passage?A. Games benefit people all their lives.B. Sports can get all athletes together.C. People are advised to play games for fun.D. Sports increase a country’s competitiveness.➢Passage BFor many parents, raising a teenager is like fighting a long war, but years go by without any clear winner. Like a border conflict between neighboring countries, the parent-teen war is about boundaries: Where is the line between what I control and what you do?Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it. From the parents’ point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adoles cents’ complete unreasonableness. And of course, the teens see it in exactly the same way, except oppositely. Both feel trapped. In this article, I’ll describe three no-win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no-win situation is quarrels over unimportant things. Examples include the color of the teen’s hair, the cleanliness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child’s failure to eat a good breakfast before school, or his tendency to sleep until noon on the weekends. Second, blaming. The goal of a blaming battle is to make the other admit that his bad attitude is the reason why everything goes wrong. Third, needing to be right. It doesn’t matter what the topic is—politics, the laws of physics, or the proper way to break an egg—the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong for both wish to be considered an authority—someone who actually knows something—and therefore to command respect.Unfortunately, as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they’ll continue to fight these batt les forever and never make any real progress.55. Why does the author compare the parent-teen war to a border conflict?A. both can continue for generations.B. Both are about where to draw the line.C. Neither has any clear winner.D. Neither can be put to an end.56. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean?A. The teens blame their parents for starting the conflict.B. The teens agree with their parents on the cause of the conflict.C. The teens accuse their parents of misleading them.D. The teens tend to have a full understanding of their parents.57.Parents and teens want to be right because they want to ______.A. give orders to the otherB. know more than the otherC. gain respect from the otherD. get the other to behave properly58. What will the author most probably discuss in the paragraph that follows?A. causes for the parent-teen conflictsB. Examples of the parent-teen war.C. Solutions for the parent-teen problemsD. To see if pet dogs can distinguish between intentional and accidental actions by strangers, Christoph Völter at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna in Austria and his colleagues ran tests with humans offering dogs food while the animals’body movements were tracked using eight cameras. Each dog and human were separated by a transparent plastic panel with holes that a slice of sausage could be passed through.In96trials of48pet dogs, human participants either teased the dog by holding up and pulling back a treat,or they pretended to clumsily drop the piece of sausage on their own side of the panel before the dog could eat it.In all trials, thedogs had to wait30seconds before finally getting their reward, during which the team tracked their reaction. The research found that when humans pretended to drop a treat compared with when they intentionally pulled it away, the dogs responded more patiently. They made more eye contact with the experimenter, wagged their tails more and stayed closer to the transparent barrier, suggesting they were still expecting a treat.Dogs that were teased sat, laid down and backed away the barrier more frequently. The results were similar across different dogs, ages and sex.In the clumsy trial, the dogs also wagged their tails more on their right side,a behaviour known to be associated with dogs that are happy and relaxed.“They have more positive emotions towards the clumsy experimenter, which might indicate that they indeed understand that the experimenter is willing, but just too clumsy,to give them food,”says Völter. 12.What was Völter’s research intended for?A.Clarifying how humans bond with dogs.B.Training dogs to adapt to new surroundings.C.Understanding dogs’sensitivity towards food.D.Detecting if dogs understand human intention.13.What is paragraph2mainly about?A.Research findings.B.Research method.C.Research background.D.Research data.14.How did the dogs react when sausages were pulled away on purpose?A.They moved away more often.B.They barked more loudly.C.They bit sausages more fiercely.D.They waited more patiently. 15.What is the text?A.A diary entry.B.A course plan.C.A science report.D.A tour brochure.二、七选五How to Avoid Distractions While StudyingYou know you really want to do well in your study.Your parents have put the pressure on,or you promised yourself you would do better. But you keep getting distracted(分心)!

Passage 1Modern inventions have speeded up people’s loves amazingly. Motor-cars cover a hundred miles in little more than an hour, aircraftcross the world inside a day, while computers operate at lightning speed. Indeed, this love of speed seems never-ending. Every year motor-cars are produced which go even faster and each new computer boasts(吹嘘) of saving precious seconds in handling tasks. All this saves time, but at a price. When we lose or gain half a day in speeding across the world in an airplane, our bodies tell us so.We get the uncomfortable feeling known as jet-lag; our bodies feel that they have been left behind on another time zone. Again, spending too long at computers results in painful wrists and fingers. Mobile phones also have their dangers, according to some scientist; too much use may transmit harmful radiation into our brains, a consequence we do not like to think about. However, what do we do with the time we have saved? Certainly not relax, or so it seems. We are so accustomed to constant activity that we find it difficult to sit and do nothing or even just one thing at a time. Perhaps the days are long gone when we might listen quietly to a story on the radio, letting imagination take us into another world. There was a time when some people’s lives were devoted simply to the cultivation of the land or the care of cattle. No multi-tasking there; their lives went on at a much gentler pace, and in a familiar pattern. There is much that we might envy about a way of life like this. Yet before we do so, we must think of the hard tasks our ancestor faced: they farmed with bare hands, often lived close to hunger, and had to fashion tools from wood and stone. Modern machinery has freed people from that primitive existence.68. The new products become more and more time-saving because _______.A. our love of speed seems never-endingB. time is limited.C. the prices are increasingly high.D. the manufactures boast a lot.69. What does “the days” in Paragraph 3 refer to ?A. Imaginary lifeB. Simple life in the past.C. Times of inventionsD. Time for constant activity.70. What is the author’s attitude towards the modern technology?A. CriticalB. Objective.C. Optimistic.D. Negative.71. What does the passage mainly discuss?A. The present and past times.B. Machinery and human beings.C. Imaginations and inventions.D. Modern technology and its influence.Passage 2How should one invest a sum of money in these days of inflation (通货膨胀)? Left in a bank it will hardly keep its value, however high the interest rate. Only a brave man, or a very rich one, dares to buy and sell on the Stock Market. Today it seems that one of the best ways to protect your savings, and even increase your wealth is to buy beautiful objects from the past. Here I am going to offer some advice on collecting antique clocks, which I personally consider are among the most interesting of antiques.I sometimes wonder what a being from another planet might report back about our way of life. "The planet Earth is ruled by a mysterious creature that sits or stands in a room and makes a strange ticking sound. It has a face with twelve black marks and two hands. Men can do nothing without its permission, and it fastens its young round people's wrists so that everywhere men go they are still under its control. This creature is the real master of Earth and men are its slaves."Whether or not we are slaves of time today depends on our culture and personality, but it is believed that many years ago kings kept special slaves to tell the time. Certain men were very clever at measuring the time of day according to the beating of their own hearts. They were made to stand in a fixed place and every hour or so would shout the time. So it seems that the first clocks were human beings. However, men quickly found more convenient and reliable ways of telling the time. They learned to use the shadows cast by the sun. They marked。
