Chinese paper cutting or "jianzhi" is the art of cutting paper designs, and the cut-outs are also used to decorate doors and windows, so they are sometimes called "chuang hua". Paper cutting has long been a symbol of Eastern charm. There are symmetrical(对称的)designs that are usually created by some folding and cutting. When unfolded, it forms a symmetrical design. Chinese cut-outs are normally symmetrical and are usually in an even number series of 2, 4, 24,etc.The oldest surviving paper cut-out is a symmetrical circle from the early 6th century found in Xinjiang, China. From the 7th to 13th century, paper cutting became popular especially during Chinese festivals. The art spread to the rest of the world in the 14th century. Throughout the Qing Dynasty many paper cutting skills were developed including drafting and the use of smoked papers. By the end of the Qing ruling, however, paper cutting was once on the decline because new art forms were being introduced. The Republic of China later tried to revive the art in the 1980s.Today, paper cut-outs are chiefly decorative. They decorate walls, windows, doors, columns, mirrors, lamps and lanterns in homes and are also used on presents or are given as gifts themselves. Entrances decorated with paper cut-outs are supposed to bring good luck. Paper cut-outs used to be used as patterns, especially for embroidery(刺绣).There are two methods of manufacture: one uses scissors, the other uses knives. In the scissor method, several pieces of paper —up to eight —are fastened together. The image is then cut with sharp, pointed scissors. Unit 4 Earthquakes李仕才***阅读理解At 23, my career got going. I was midway through a master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science and had been hired as a parttime reporter for a finance website. I got a great onemonth review and m y boss asked if I was interested in staying at the company after graduation. However, balancing graduate studies with work was challenging. To deal with it, I checked my real self at my office door. I came in to work, greeted my colleagues and listened more than I contributed in each morning meeting. The small team I worked with often seemed busy, so rather than giving ideas that might get turned down, I stayed back. After four months, my boss called me into his office. The meeting was going well until he told me that despite the great work I had produced, the team had held a meeting and decided,“We don’t think it’s the right fit.”I must have looked confused. “You’re ambitious, intelligent and will be very successful,” my boss said. “But you haven’t made enough effort to join the team. You lost the enthusiasm you showed in your interview. That won’t work long term, and if I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to get your guard down.” I couldn’t believe that performing well at my job wasn’t enoug h to keep it. But I knew my boss was right. They knew that when they hired me, I had no experience in finance reporting, yet they took a chance on me. In meetings I usually contributed last, after I had heard everyone else’s suggestions. I did it to show t hat I was a listener, but also to hide my fears. They liked the person who walked into the interview, and they didn’t respect me when I hid that person from them.“Don’t leave before you leave.” That advice is essential for women at all stages of our careers. Because we work so hard for success, we don’t like to think that we hurt ourselves sometimes. But each of us must change when necessary. In trying to earn a fulltime job, I “leaned back” in order not to show too much of myself or my lack of expertise(专门知识). I learned that the hard way wasn’t the way to achieve our goals.【解题导语】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。

Unit 4 Earthquakes李仕才***阅读理解My mother grew up in a small coal mining town in southwest Iowa.My grandfather once told me that she knew no stranger and considered everyone in that community her friend. That attitude continued wherever she lived for the rest of her life.As a young girl, I felt embarrassed and cringed(畏缩) every time my mother addressed strangers in the grocery store or on the city bus.She talked to everyone and offered a smile. What really sold me on Mom’s approach to life was her experience on the senior bus, a story I’ve repeated to others many times. The weeks I could not be there, she used this lowcost transportation to the grocery store. After her first trip, I asked her how it went.“Ha!”she said, “I got on that bus and what did I see?Thirteen little old ladies and one old man, and not one word was spoken.”I wondered how long it would be until the somberness(忧郁的氛围) on that bus would change. On my next visit, Mom mentioned the ladies on the bus and something one of them had told her.“Oh, are you talking with them now?” I asked.“Of course, ”she said.“One day I climbed up the steps of the bus and before I looked for a seat, I gave them a big smile and I said, ‘Isn’t it a wonderful day?’ I noticed a few shy smiles.”Mom didn’t give up.She greeted them all each time she got on the bus and before long, the whole group was laughing and talking to one another. The bus became more than just transportation. She’s been gone for ten years but I’ve carried on her recipe for life.I smile at people as I walk by and often begin a conversation in the checkout line.Silent, solemn(严肃的) people respond with smiles of their own and a bit of chatter. All it takes is for one person to initiate(发起) the smile or greeting. It was I who had done the smiling first and all those people had responded. My mother didn’t lecturebut taught me by example. She’d given me a recipe for life.【解题导语】本文主要讲述了作者的母亲积极乐观的人生态度对作者的影响。

Modern scientists divide the process of dying into two stages —clinical or temporary death and biological death・ Clinical death occurs when the vital organs, such as the heart or lungs, have stopped functioning, but have not suffered permanent damage. The organism can still be saved. Biological death occurs when changes in the organism lead to the "breaking up” of vital cells and tissues. Death is then unchangeable and final.Scientists have been seeking a way to prolong the period of clinical death so that the organism can remain alive before biological death occurs. The best method developed so far involves cooling the organism, combined with narcotic (麻醉)sleep・By slowing down the body" s metabol ism (新陈代谢),cool ing delays the processes leading to biological death・To show how this works, scientists performed an experiment on a six-year-old female monkey cal led Keta. The scientist put Keta. to sleep wi th a narcotic. Then they surrounded her body with ice-bags and began checking her body temperature. When it had dropped to 28 degrees the scientists began taking blood out from an artery (动脉)・The monkey' s blood pressure decreased and an hour later both the heart and breathing stopped: cl ini cal death set in. For twonty minutes Keta remained in this state. Her temperature dropped to 22 degrees・At this point the scientists pumped blood into an artery in the direction of the heart and started artificial breathing. After two minutes Keta' s heart became active once more. After fifteen minutes, spontaneous (自发的)breathing began, and after four hours Keta opened her eyes and lifted her head. After six hours, when the scientists tried to give her a peniUllin (青霉素) injection, Keta seized the syringe (注射器)and ran with it around the room・ Her behavior differed 1ittle from that of a healthy animal.1・For a person who suffers from the clinical death ・A.he is still very much aliveB.he cannot avoid final deathC.his most important organs are damaged foreverD.he still has the possibility of getting back to life 2.Scientists try to make the time of clinical death longer in order toA. cool the organismB. delay the coming of biological deathC. slow down the body" s metabolismD. bring vital cells and tissues back to active life3. __________________________________ The text mainly talks about .A. clinical death and biological deathB ・ an experiment on amonkeyC. the meaning of deathD ・ the process before death4- From the underlined sentence in the lastA. It is said that Charley Douglass selected almost all of his laugh track material from in-studio recordings of several different comedy shows. 3During the 1970s, many sitcoms chose to get rid of the practice altogether or mix live audience reactions with the canned laughter. Filming a show in front of a live audience became a symbol of honour. 4 Live audiences did not always provide a usable response, especially after a long day of retakes.Today, the same company created by Charley Douglass offers an improved digital version of the original Laff Box. 5 Most sitcoms produced today are still recorded in front of a live audicncc, but a more subtle laugh track can be used to improve weak responses.A. Unit 4 Earthquakes课时作业Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2019·邯郸模拟C)Have you ever noticed tiny raised areas on the branches of a tree? These may have been insects. These small insects feed on tree sap(汁液).Insects on urban trees are notably more abundant than those on rural trees. As a result, urban trees suffer from heavy infestations(害虫横行),and are often unhealthy or die.To protect and restore urban trees' health,we need to determine the factors that make these tree pests more successful in urban habitats.Living organisms interact closely with their environment. The warmer, more drought -stressed trees harbor more successful pests than cooler, less drought-stressed trees. As cities and natural habitats become hotter and drier, damaging insects will become more abundant on urban trees.Trees within urban forests are valuable economically and for the environmental sustainability(可持续性)of the region.More than half of the world's population lives in cities.Across the globe, people are moving into cities at a faster rate than ever.Rapid growth may turn cities into places with harder conditions.Although cities are primarily made of buildings, roads, parking lots, and vehicles, there are still plants in them. The trees within a city are referred to as the urban forest.Urban forests offer very big benefits to human and environmental health. They improve air and water quality, provide habitat for wildlife, cool down temperatures and beautify our environment. They make cities livable. However, being a city tree is not easy.Heat released by human activities is trapped in cities. As a result, temperatures in urban areas are often warmer than their surrounding rural areas. We call this urban warming or the urban heat island effect.Urban habitats are mostly made of surfaces of asphalt(沥青)and concrete. These surfaces reduce the amount of rainwater that reaches tree roots. As a result, urban forests may suffer, which can negatively affect people and theenvironment. What can we do to restore urban forests?Regular irrigation when possible may help keep pest populations under control.Planting tree species that are suitable to handle heat and drought stress would also reduce the occurrence of insect pest outbreaks.【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了城市中的森林使城市宜居,但是人类的活动对城市的树木产生了极大的影响,所以我们应该为保护城市树木采取行动。

Millions of young Chinese now exchange messages with her daily, the New York Times reported. On WeChat, Xiaoice is an official account. After following it, users can start text-based conversations with Xiaoice.“Her incredible learning ability was why people loved to talk with Xiaoice, ” Liu Jinchang, a researcher at High-tech Research and Development Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology, told China Daily. Apart from her ability to identify photos and send emojis(表情符号)in conversations, Xiaoice gains 45 percent of her knowledge from interacting with users, China Daily reported.Chatbot programs first appeared in the mid-1960s in the US. Driven by top tech companies, they are becoming smarter and more common. For instance, IBM’s latest artificial intelligence program served as an academic consultant at Australia’s Deakin University, answering stude nts’ questions about course schedules and financial aid. Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa have been used as voice assistants who can read news, play music and even make jokes for their users. These programs are expected to move beyond smartphones, into televisions, cars and living rooms, the New York Times pointed out. However, it may take decades before scientists develop a “Samantha”, the advanced chatbot seen in the fiction film Her. In the film, Samantha has a romantic relationship with her user played by US actor Joaquin Phoenix. Many viewers were enthusiastic about this fantasy of virtual soul mates.【文章大意】本文讲述的是人工智能程序的发展情况, 列举了微信上的聊天程序大受欢迎, IBM的人工智能程序能成为顾问, 但是目前这种程序主要应用在智能手机上, 人们期待它将来可以在手机以外的地方使用。

必修1 Unit 4 Earthquakes李仕才一、阅读理解A“BANG!” the door caused a reverberation (回声). It was just standing there, with father standing on one side, and me on the other side.We were both in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” stormed father. With tears welling up in my eyes, I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street. The street lights were shining, causing rather sad feelings. I wandered aimlessly.A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree. But now … I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because dad is getting old. We differ in our ways of thinking. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.I wandered the streets, without a destination in mind. My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were fewer and fewer people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw that the light was still on.I thought to myself: “Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?”In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except father’s.Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. 新人教版必修1高考英语一轮复习Unit4Earthquakes课时作业含解析

Earthquakes李仕才【阅读理解】At present we spend a lot of time on our mobile devices these days and automakers have taken notes, rolling out connected cars that make it easy to do nearly everything from your phone.“We all enjoy those kinds of experiences where you want something and by the push of a button everything gets taken care of for you.You don’t have to go here and there and piece a bunch of things together by yourself. ”Ford recently introduced FordPass, a mobile platform that lets car owners access services like finding and paying for a parking spot.“Here’s the details of what charge s will be in sign, and then I submit (点击接受), and then I receive a QRphoto allowing me entry access to that parking location. ”Over at Buick, the OnStar RemoteLink app connects owners to their cars no matter how faraway they are. “This car in Detroit, I co uld start from here in New York. Or let us say I have the only key to it and my wife in Detroit needs to get in the car, I can unlock it for her from here. ”The feature harnesses the car’s 4G LTE connectivity (连接性). Up to seven mobile devices can connect to it at any given time.“We want people to feel as if they are at home within the car, which a lot of people want to be in just for the driving experience, now they can be in there as well, the passengers can be in there as well for the connectivity expe rience. ”But what does that connectivity mean for your privacy?“It is important to have personal information to create that individualized, personalized experience, but certainly it will be a customer’s option. ”For certain consumers, it may not even be an issue.“There certainly is a factor where a younger consumer is much more comfortable giving up a lot more privacy and data than an older consumer is, and more likelythan not, you are going to see a similar behavior to how they handle their personal privacy within the vehicle. ”Considering how capable our mobile devices have become, perhaps the only question left to answer is: “Who’s driving? ”【文章大意】由于移动设备的广泛应用, 制造商推出了装配有车载移动设备的轿车, 进而可从事由智能手机发出指令的动作。
