人教版广东全部城市高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.I am a member of the Young People's Chorus (YPC) of New York City. The chorus is made up of children aged 8 to 18. I've been in the chorus for almost five years, and I love the community of "young artists". Every year, we give a big performance to raise money for the organization. It's the biggest concert of the year and is held at Lincoln Center. A lot of work goes into the final performance.First, we begin learning our music. We usually start by learning the notes, and then we add the words. Someone comes in to teach us the meaning and pronunciation of the lyrics(歌词)if the words are not in English.Next, we memorize the whole song, even if we only sing part of it. One of the hardest pieces we sang this year was Tjak, a song inspired by a Balinese Monkey Chant. It has four parts, each with a different rhythm.Once we add dynamics(力度变化)to our songs to give them life, it's time to add choreography. Jacquie Bird, the director, tells us to connect the words we sing to our movements as we breathe and count in our heads. As we get closer to the concert night, the rehearsals(彩排)get tougher. Sometimes, we do a quick review, and sometimes we sing the whole song. My knees and arms start to ache. But once we get abreak and some food, we come back feeling better. We rehearse on weekends for almost a month beforehand; every moment is important and worth it.The real excitement comes during the rehearsal, when we meet our guest artists. This year, YPC invited Mandy Gonzales, Alexandra Socha, and Time for Three to join us. After hearing that we would work with them, we jumped up and down backstage as quietly as we could.Showtime! We sang with musical guests and performed dances that seemed as if they came straight from a Broadway show. At the end of the night, we screamed with excitement backstage. For all of us, pulling off the biggest performance of the year felt great.(1)Why is a big performance given yearly?A: To collect money for YPC.B: To pick excellent performers.C: To show kids' talent for acting.D: To celebrate the success of YPC.(2)What does the underlined word "choreography" in paragraph 4 refer to? A: Lyrics.B: Games.C: Videos.D: Dances.(3)What excites the author most during the rehearsal?A: Getting a rest after tough hours.B: Working with Jacquie.C: Meeting guest artists.D: Having some food.(4)How did the author feel at the end of the concert night?A: Shocked.B: Regretful.C: Thankful.D: Overjoyed.【答案】ADCD【解答】(1)A 细节理解题。

Note that there are tvvo more sentences than you need. Most people don't need science to appreciate the importance of a mother's love. But to understand how early maltreatment can derail a child's development requires careful study. In a famous research, Harry Harlow had demonstrated that proper psychological and physical development of infants requires nurturing and attention from a parent.(1)______ In that research, socially isolated monkey babies that were removed from their mothers were found to be clinging to a cloth—covered surrogate mother for comfort.Such experimentations sound cruel. They, however, have been critical in helping change policies in human orphanages(孤儿院)in the U. S. For centuries sonic orphanages treated infants equally inhumanely. Despite early evidence that orphanage infants were far more likely to die than others, supporters argued that it didn't matter whether children had "parents" specially devoted to them at the orphanage.(2)______ Orphans were supposed to be in positive mental and physical health until adoptive parents were found. Babies, they said, couldn't remember anyway. The harrowing consequences of these theories were most vividly brought to light in Romania in the 1980s and 90s. A ban on abortion(流产)led to a surge in orphanage babies. Simply being fed and changed without individualized affection, some babies present serious problems. Many developed violent behaviors, repetitively rocking or banging their heads. Some were cold and withdrawn or indiscriminately affectionate.(3)______ Their head sizes were especially small. They even had problems with attention and comprehension. The longer these children were left alone, the more damage was seen. The lack of a secure attachment relationship in the early years has destructive consequences for both physical and mental health later in life, with long-lasting effects. The persistence of these effects emphasizes the need to intervene early in life. The Nobel-prize-winning economist James Heckman, has long argued that investing in early childhood education provides a greater returns for society than virtually any other type of spending. It is obviously reflected in increased educational success and productivity. The reduced crime, addiction, distress and disorder point to the same theory. Early life conditions critically affect adult life.(4)________Remove it and the harm is great.A. The appropriate feeding and caring styles were greatly rewarded in all aspects.B. It was claimed that simply feeding and changing them would be adequate.C. Some, however, demonstrate little influence with roughly ordinary behavior pattern.F. And they simply didn't grow like normal infants.25. On my first job as sports editor for the Montpelier Leader Enterprise(MLE),I didn't get a lot of fan mail,so my attention was caught by a letter on my desk one morning. When I opened it,I read:"Sweet piece of writing on the Tigers.Keep up the good work."It was signed by Don Wolfe, the sports editor. Because I was a teenager(being paid the grand total of 15 cents a column inch),his words could not have been more inspiring,I kept the letter in my desk drawer until it got old.Whenever I doubted I had the right stuff to a writer,I would reread Don's note and ________ again.Later, when I got to know him,I learned that Don made a habit of writing a quick, encouraging note to people in all walks of life,"When I make others feel good about themselves,"he told me,"I feel good, too."Over the years,I've tried to copy Don and write uplifting words. In a world too often cold and unresponsive, such notes bring warmth. Why are positive note writers in such short supply My guess is that many who shy away from the practice are too self﹣conscious. They are afraid they will be misunderstood. Thus it may cause troubles and problems. And it sounds insincere on the phone,Also, writing takes time;it is far easier to pick up the phone. The drawback of phone calls,of course,is that they do not last.A note attaches more importance to our well﹣wishing. It is a matter of record, and our words can be read more than once savored (回味) and treasured, and they bring strength and love to us.Today I sent a warm letter to my old boss.I don't know if it will make his day,but it made mine.As my friend Don Wolfe said."Making others feel good about themselves makes me feel good too."(1)What does the underlined part "walk on air" in Paragraph 2 probably mean?(No more than 5 words)________(2)According to the author, why aren't people willing to write letters?(No more than 15 words)________(3)Why did the author write to his old boss?(No more than 15 words)________(4)What's the text mainly about?(No more than 10 words)________(5)Were you encouraged by anybody? And how?(No more than 25 words)________四、完形填空(本题共计 1 小题,共计5分)26.(5分)First FailureI leaned my head on my hand. Some take over-the-counter(非处方的)medicines such as aspirin while others try popular home remedies(治疗)like herbal tea or chicken soup. Yet here is the tough truth about the common cold: nothing really cures it.So why do people sometimes believe that their remedies work? According to James Taylor, professor at the University of Washington, colds usually go away on their own in about a week, improving a little each day after symptoms peak, so it's easy to believe it's medicine rather than time that deserves the credit, USA Today reported. It still seems hard to believe that we can deal with more serious diseases yet are powerless against something so common as a cold. Recently, scientists came closer to figuring out why. To understand it, you first need to know how antiviral(抗病毒的)drugs work. They attack the virus by attaching to and changing the surface structures of the virus. To do that, the drug must fit and lock into the virus like the right piece of a jigsaw(拼图), which means scientists have to identify the virus and build a 3-D model to study its surface before they can design an antiviral drug that is effective enough. The two cold viruses that scientists had long known about were rhinovirus(鼻病毒)A and B. But they didn't find out about the existence of a third virus, rhinovirus C, until 2006. All three of them contribute to the common cold, but drugs that work well against rhinovirus A and B have little effect when used against C."This explains most of the previous failures of drug trials against rhinovirus," study leader Professor Ann Palmenberg at University of Wisconsin-Madison, US, told Science Daliy. Now, more than 10 years after the discovery of rhinovirus C, scientists have finally built a highly-detailed 3-D model of the virus , showing that the surface of the virus is, as expected, different from that of other cold viruses. With the model in hand, hopefully a real cure for a common cold is on its way. Soon, we may no longer have to waste our money on medicines that don't really work.(1)What does the author think of popular remedies for a common cold?A.They are quite effective.B.They are slightly helpful.C.They actually have no effect.D.They still need to be improved.(2)How do antiviral drugs work?A.By breaking up cold viruses directly.B.By changing the surface structures of the cold viruses.C.By preventing colds from developing into serious diseases.D.By absorbing different kinds of cold viruses at the same time.(3)What can we infer from the passage?A.The surface of cold viruses looks quite similar.B.Scientists have already found a cure for the common cold.C.Scientists were not aware of the existence of rhinovirus C until recently.D.Knowing the structure of cold viruses is the key to developing an effective cure.(4)What is the best title for this passage?A.Drugs against cold virusesB.Helpful home remediesC.No current cure for common coldD.Research on cold viruses28.Who was the most important person of the year? When I was a little girl, my grandmother and I spent every Saturday afternoon together. One day we would eat ice cream or go to the movies and the next we would go to the zoo or a museum. But in the summer and spring, my favorite activity was when we would go to the park and fly kites. My grandmother was an expert at flying kites, and as soon as the wind picked up, she would consider it the perfect time to go. She would make herself comfortable on the soft grass, unwind the string and expertly fly the kite into the sky. After letting out a few feet of string, she passed it to me. Once it was in my hands, my heart would race as I felt the kite lift into the air. I would run against the wind, using all of my strength to keep it up. One day, however, the kite flew a little too high and the string slipped from my fingers. It hurriedly rose higher and higher into the sky until it was out of sight. My grandmother told me not to cry and comforted me as she made a new kite for me. And ever since, we had another day to remember in the park with our new kite.1. They compared each one to the sun in terms of surface temperature, size and rotation. They found that on average, the other stars had five times more brightness variability than our sun.The lead author was Timo Reinhold, an astronomer with the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany. He told the Reuters news agency that the variability in brightness results from dark spots on the surface of the star moving in and out of view."A direct measure of solar activity is the number of sunspots on the surface," Reinhold said. "Finding such stars with very similar parameters as our sun but being five times more variable was surprising."The sun—made up mainly of hydrogen and helium—is an average-sized star that formed more than 4.5 billion years ago. It stretches about 1.4 million kilometers across and has a surface temperature of 5,500 degrees Celsius. The researchers compared scientific data on the similar stars to historical records of the sun's activity. The records included about 400 years of observational data on sunspots. The researchers also studied about 9,000 years of data based on chemical element variants in tree rings and ice buildup tied to solar activity. These records show the sun has not been much more active than it is now.The researchers said increased magnetic activity related to sunspots can lead to electromagnetic events that affect Earth. For example, large releases of plasma—a collection of charged particles—from outer areas of the sun's atmosphere could cause problems for satellites and other communications equipment. The discovery may be good news for life on Earth. A much more active sun might have had more major effects on Earth's geology and ancient climate. "A 'too active' star would definitively change the conditions for life on the planet, so living with a quite boring star is not the worst option," Reinhold said. The findings, he noted, do not rule out the possibility that the sun may be in a quiet period and could become more variable in the future. However, the researchers say there are no signs that solar activity will be increasing any time soon.(1)According to Timo Reinhold, what causes the variability in brightness of the sun?A.Hydrogen and helium in the sun.B.The surface temperature of the sun.C.The diameter(直径)of the sun.D.Dark spots on its outer part.(2)Which of the following helped researchers prove the sun's inactivity?A.Scientific data of all the other stars.B.Data of sunspots observed in the past 400 years.C.9,000 years of data of the activities of the sun.D.Data of chemical element variants in icy trees.(3)What will probably happen if the sun becomes very active?A.There will be a decreased magnetic activity.B.The geology and climate of the Earth will be different.C.Satellites and other communications equipment will work better.D.People on the Earth have to live with the quite boring star.(4)What is the best title of this article?A.The sun: less active than similar starsB.The sun: less bright and intense than beforeC.Sun spots: a direct measure of solar activityD.Sun spots: the cause of electromagnetic events on EarthC.They have the same cognition level.D.They adapt to new environment quickly.(3)What is unique about dogs?A.Their cognition.B.Their sense of smell.ing tools.D.Exhibiting self-awareness.25.(8分)Airline travel causes roughly 2%—3% of the pollution that makes the greenhouse effect worse. Airplanes powered by a very common gas called hydrogen(氢)could change all of that. Last Thursday, a company called ZeroAvia made a successful test flight of what it calls the "largest hydrogen-powered aircraft in the world". Many companies are working on hydrogen-powered vehicles, but ZeroAvia's test flight used a plane that can seat 6 people—the largest hydrogen powered plane ever flown. ZeroAvia made a similar flight in June, but that one was battery-powered.Hydrogen can be used to power vehicles by combining it with oxygen in a "fuel cell", which is like a battery that never runs out as long as it has hydrogen. The chemical reaction which takes place between hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell creates electricity, but doesn't give off any pollution—only water. Thursday's flight was an important step in the company's HyFlyer project. The company is hoping to make it possible for airlines to carry small numbers of passengers for short distances without polluting. The company's next big goal is to make a longer flight—of about 465 kilometers or more—by the end of the year. ZeroAvia believes passengers could actually be flying on hydrogen-powered airplanes by 2023.Another company called Gravity Industries put on a test of its jet suit recently to show how it could help emergency medical workers reach injured people quickly. The jet suit is powered by small jets on each arm and one on the back. By pointing the jets at the ground, the pilot can take off. Returning to the ground is just a matter of pointing both arms out to the side. Richard Browning, the suit's inventor, flew up a mountain to find some people who were pretending to be hurt(for the test). To reach the spot by climbing the mountain would have taken 25 minutes. Mr. Browning was able to cover the same distance in just 90 seconds. One problem? The cost. The suit sells for about $440,000.(1)Compared with similar ones, what advantage does ZeroAvia's aircraft have?A.It has its own fuel cell.B.It flies faster and longer.C.It can be battery powered.D.It can contain more people.(2)What is ZeroAvia's opinion about its hydrogen-powered aircraft?A.It'll be more costly than ever.B.It'll be available for real soon.C.It'll rid the greenhouse effect.D.It'll get jet suits more popular.(3)Which aspect of the jet suit does paragraph 3 mainly focus on?A.How it helps people land.B.How it was tested.C.How it was invented.D.How it saves people's lives.(4)What is the suitable title for the text?A.New Flying Inventions Take offpanies Develop New PlanesC.Flying Fuel Cells Are Used WidelyD.Jet Suits Are on ZeroAvia's PlanesA.to dry your handsB.to wash away the soapC.to rub your hands carefullyD.to clean your fingers(3)The last paragraph mainly tells us ________.A.how to wash your hands correctlyB.why washing hand with soap is so importantC.the dangers of washing hands without soapD.when we should especially wash our hands with soap(4)In which part of newspaper would you most probably read this passage?A.Medical care.B.Public service.C.Health report.D.Advertisement.27. For thousands of years, local fishermen have been diving in the shallow waters on this side ofAnegada in search of these, slow-moving snails. Many of them have been throwing their large shells in the same spot. The shell mountain is a result of their perseverance(坚持).Conches are harvested both for their meat, which is a staple(主食)of Caribbean cuisine, and for their nice-looking shells, which are sold as jewelry. This makes us understand why local sellers don't just use the shells of Conch Island but also buy them from fishermen. Apparently, while these millions of conch shells make a wonderful sight from a distance, they aren't that pretty up close."These shells aren't as pretty as you probably think they are," Reddit user Viking Mart explained on the popular social network. "Most of of them are damaged. This is because in order to get the conch meat out, fishermen usually make a hole by the 'nose' of the shell. This is to reach and loosen the snail muscle and then pull it out. This leaves these conch shells damaged and one would probably have a hard time selling them."Modern day conch fishermen have been contributing heavily to the rise of Conch Island over the past 200 years, but while that has made it that much more attractive of a tourist attraction, it has also put the snails on the endangered species list.(1)What leads to the formation of Conch Island?A.The continuous birth of conches.B.The development of tourism.C.Increasing demand for conch meat.D.Shells thrown by farmers for a long time.(2)Why do sellers buy conches besides picking up them on the Conch Island?A.They need to sell conch meat.B.They want to help the poor fishermen.C.Those which are bought are of higher quality.D.Those on the Conch Island are damaged.(3)What can we learn from Viking Mart's words?A.Most people think shells are beautiful.B.The shells are not so good as people expect.C.Viking Mart is fond of surfing the Internet.D.Farmers always damage the shells on purpose.(4)What is the present situation of the conches?A.They sell well on the market.B.They live happily on Conch Island.C.They are becoming the endangered species.D.They are made into different shapes to sell.5.(7分)Spend some time watching flamingos(火烈鸟)and you might think that not much goes on in their tiny heads. But these elegant birds actually lead complex social lives. Each bird has certain other individuals it prefers to spend time with, and others it avoids. In other words, flamingos have friends. For five years, Rose and his team observed the daily goings on of five of the world's six different flamingo species housed at the WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre in Gloucestershire."The partnerships that we see between birds are non random. The birds are choosing who to associate with." Male-female pairs spend time together, but so do same-sex pairs and even groups of three or four. And those relationships can last for many years."So there were some flamingos in the group that really didn't care who their partner was for that day, they would flit(轻快地掠过)around… and they would have many different relationships with many different birds." And of course there were other flamingos that were less social butterfly and more alone wolf. But even they had a few close friends. "Those birds that were least social… had more investment in a smaller number of social connection with flamingos that they knew really well."Rose thinks that flamingos may have evolved(演变)their social lives due to their wetland habitats—in which the resources they need are concentrated in a small area.If flamingos know their partners, if they know that these six birds, say, are friendly, and they get on with them, they can then waste less energy scrapping and quarreling with other birds that they don't get on with.By spending time with their friends, flamingos can more efficiently direct their limited time and energy to activities like hunting and mating.(1)What do we know about flamingos?A.They are very elegant birds with big heads.B.They make friends with other flamingos they like.C.Male flamingos only spend time with female ones.D.They usually change partners every couple of months.(2)What can we learn from the fifth paragraph?A.Most flamingos don't care who their partner is.B.Flamingos always don't have close friends.C.A majority of flamingos are good at social activities.D.Some flamingos would fly around to find different friends.(3)How do social activities benefit flamingos?A.By storing food resources.B.By living a relaxing life.C.By flying further to get mating.D.By making the best of their time and energy.(4)What is the best title for the text?A.Flamingos Can Be Picky About CompanyB.Rose And His Research on WildlifeC.How to Protect the Endangered FlamingosD.Why do Flamingos Need Partners6. Travelers who headed to foreign countries took dictionaries or phrasebooks with them. But now people can access instant translation services almost anywhere they go.Online translations are free, and when you use translation apps like Google Translate oriTranslate, sometimes you don't even have to look things up! Just point your phone's camera at some text, and a translation instantly appears. If you want to translate something being said aloud, just turn on your phone's microphone. Some apps even have a conversation mode where you take turns speaking with someone in a different language.Translation apps make foreign travel much easier than before. They are valuable when it comes to communicating with taxi drivers or hotel staff who don't speak your language. But these apps are far from perfect. Sometimes a translation makes no sense, and you can only guess what it mainly means. Other times, you might not know that the translation has failed until you try it on a native speaker.Although these apps are not perfect, you'll still feel surprised when considering what's happening underneath the app's surface. ________Translators use machine learning to compare millions of examples of human translated texts. That information helps the program reproduce more natural sounding translations based on real﹣world examples. People can flag incorrect or unhelpful translations and suggest better ones. This input is then used to make future translations better. With programs like Google Translate, it can be hard to get good translations for single words because most words have multiple meanings. It's better to try short sentences that provide context instead. But make the sentence straightforward. Anything too complicated or idiomatic will likely produce unusual results. As people continue to use translation services, translations will improve. One day you might not have to worry about a poor translation causing an embarrassing misunderstanding. But used wisely, they are still excellent aids for exploring and understanding the world around you.(1)How do the translation apps make foreign travel easier than before?________(2)Please explain the underlined sentence in your own words.________(3)Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explainwhy.Mobile translators use machine to process words, so the author worries about the efficient application of the translators in the future.________(4)Please briefly write out what benefits mobile translators bring to you.
