Overview1.1. IntroductionThe IAM-100 is a system that combines sensor and monitoring features in an integrated unit. It is a stand-alone system used to detect gases in an area, room, zone, airspace or airflow.The IAM-100 can be expanded into large gas detection systems using the optional IAM controller.Up to 16 IAM-100s can connect to an IAM controller. The controller shows any sensor in alarm and has relays for control purposes. These controllers can be connected to each other enabling the construction of large gas detector systems.1.2. ApplicationsThe IAM-100 is an ideal solution for gas detection in the following occupied spaces:•hotel rooms •storage facilities•conference rooms •theaters•apartment blocks •airports•office buildings •light industrial spaces•air conditioned spaces •large systems requiring many sensors. Typical applications include the following.IAM-100 and Controller ManualFigure 1. IAM-100Figure 2. Optional IAM-100 ControllerIAM-100 and Controller ManualFigure 3. Sample Architecture DiagramIAM-100 and Controller Manual 1.3. SpecificationsIAM-100 and Controller ManualIAM-100 and Controller ManualSection 2. Placing Sensors2.1. General GuidelinesNOTE: This instrument is equipped with a semiconductor sensor for the detection of refrigerant gases. Semiconductor sensors are not gas specific and respond to a variety of other gases including propane exhaust, cleaners, and solvents. Changes in temperature and humidity may also affect the sensor’s performance.The IAM-100 and optional controller (where applicable) should be positioned carefully to avoid mechanical damage (from moving machinery, doors, etc.) and thermal extremes (close to heaters). Units should not be placed unprotected in direct or strong drafts/airflows and areas where water, moisture, or steam is present.Avoid routing sensor cabling outside of premises, or between buildings via overhead cables. Also, sensor wiring should be kept a minimum of 500 mm [20 inches] from the main power supply and telephone cables.When connecting the main power supply and/or sensor cables ensure a second strain relief is used. As a strain relief, use a cable tie inside the enclosure within 25mm [1 inch] of the cable termination.NOTE: The IAM-100 and optional controllers must be located within the appropriate wire lengths from the central control unit (if used).In all cases the sensor supplied is designed for maximum sensitivity to a particular gas. However, in certain circumstances false alarms may be caused by the occasional presence of sufficiently high concentrations of other gaseous impurities. Examples of situations where such abnormalities may arise include the following:• Room maintenance activity involving solvent or fumes or refrigerant leaks.•Heavy localized exhaust fumes (carbon monoxide, dioxide, andpropane).An optional response delay may be activated to minimize the possibilities of false alarms.2.2. Air Conditioning (Direct Systems VRF/VRV)To ensure compliance with EN378 at least one detector should be installed in each occupied space being considered. In this case refrigerants are heavier than air and detectors should have their sensors mounted low, e.g., at less than bed height in the case of a hotel or other similar Category Class A space. Ceiling voids or other voids if not sealed are part of the occupied space.CAUTION:Monitoring ceiling voids in a hotel room would not strictly comply with EN378.IMPORTANT: Carefully consider ramifications of using too few sensors. A few extra sensors could make a significant difference if a gas leak occurs.Section 3. Housing DimensionsFigure 4. Dimensions of the IAM-100 Housing (Front)Figure 5. Typical Dimensions of the IAM-100 (Back)Figure 6. Controller HousingSection 4. Wiring Instructions4.1. Wiring the IAM-100Open the IAM-100 by removing the two front cover screws. Remove the metal faceplate and locate the connection terminals.Figure 7. IAM-100 Internal ComponentsNOTE: The maximum wire size into terminal blocks is 1.5 mm2 [16 AWG].NOTE: Review and agree upon end-user requirements before setting buzzer enable/disable, the relay/buzzer delay and manual vs. automatic reset (latching).NOTE: Connection to main power supply must be done in accordance with local wiring regulations, and should not be longer than 3 meters from the controller. It is recommended to connect to main power through approved, switchable, fused (3A fuse recommended) and easily accessible electrical spur. This should be a part of building installation and be marked as disconnect for the unit.•The main power cable used should be compliant with local regulations.•If replacement of the main fuse is required, use a suitable replacement.4.2. Wiring the IAM-100 ControllerOpen the IAM-C by removing the two front cover screws. Remove the metal faceplate and locate the connection terminals. To install the IAM-C, refer to the network drawing (Figure 3) and wiring diagram (Figure 8).Figure 8. Controller Internal ComponentsNOTE: The maximum wire size into terminal blocks is 1.5 mm2[16 AWG].NOTE: Review and agree upon end-user requirements before setting buzzer enable/disable, the relay/buzzer delay andmanual vs. automatic reset (latching).NOTE: Connection to main power supply must be via an approved, readily accessible, switched spur and fused (3 Amp fuse) or as per local wiring regulations which should be within 3 meters (10 feet) of the controller. It should be part of the building installation and be marked as the disconnect for the device. • The main power cable used should be compliant with local regulations.•If replacement of the main fuse is required, use a suitable replacement.4.3. Remote Sensor InstallationIf you do not wish to surface mount the IAM or need to match room decor, Bacharach can supply a remote sensor and a decorative faceplate (standard finish is a unit with brushed stainless steel). The remote sensor is mounted in an electrical back box 44 mm [1.73 inches] deep to which the faceplate is fitted.IMPORTANT: Cleaning the decorative faceplate should be limited to light dusting. It should not be sprayed with cleaning/polishing aerosols.NOTE: For remote sensor configurations, the sensor element is mounted on a small remote sensor PCBthatconnects to the IAM-100’s main PCB via a 4-wire cable.Figure 9. Local vs. Remote SensorSection 5. Operating Instructions 5.1. IAM-1005.2. IAM ControllerFigure 11. External Components of the ControllerNOTE: If all of the red LEDs are blinking approximately every 5 seconds on a master panel, then remove the link on Jumper position JP3 as this should be in the disabled position on a master panel (factory default setting is disabled).Access Screws (2 Places)Section 6. Functional Tests and Calibration6.1. OverviewNOTE: The IAM-100 is calibrated at the factory. After installation, a zero adjustment maybe required due to differences in environmental conditions.IMPORTANT: If the IAM-100 is exposed to a large leak it should be tested to ensure correct functionality, and the sensor replaced if necessary.To comply with the requirements of EN378 and the European F-GAS regulation, sensors must be tested annually. However, local regulations may specify the nature and frequency of this test. After sensor element replacement, recalibration of the unit using known concentration of gas is required.CAUTION: Check local regulations on calibration or testing requirements.IMPORTANT: The testing and/or calibration of the unit must be carried out by a suitably qualified technician, and must be done:• in accordance with this manual•in compliance with locally applicable guidelines and regulations.Suitably qualified operators of the unit should be aware of the regulations and standards set down by the industry/country for the testing or calibration of this unit. This manual is only intended as a guide and, insofar as permitted by law, the manufacturer accepts no responsibility for the calibration, testing, or operation of this unit.The frequency and nature of testing or calibration may be determined by local regulation or standards.EN378 and the F-GAS Regulation require an annual check in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendation.IMPORTANT: Failure to test or calibrate the unit in accordance with applicable instructions and with industry guidelines may result in serious injury or death. The manufacturer is not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from improper testing, incorrect calibration, or inappropriate use of the unit.IMPORTANT: Calibration should be done at least once per year.IMPORTANT: In applications where life safety is critical, calibration should be done quarterly (every 3 months) or on a more frequent basis. Bacharach is not responsible for setting safety practices and policies. Safe work procedures including calibration policies are best determined by company policy, industry standards, and local codes.There are two concepts that need to be differentiated:Bump Test Exposing the sensor to a known concentration of targetgas and observing its response to the gas. The objective is to establish if the sensor is reacting to the gas and all the sensor outputs are working correctly. There are two types of bump test. • Quantified: A known concentration of gas isused.• Non-Quantified: A gas of unknown concentration isused.Calibration Exposing the sensor to a calibration gas, setting the“Standby voltage”, the span/range, and checking/ adjusting all the outputs, to ensure that they are activated at the specified gas concentration.NOTE: For improved accuracy and response, the instrument should be zeroed and calibrated in the environment in which it is being installed.CAUTION: Before performing the bump test:•Advise occupants, plant operators, and supervisors.•Check if the IAM-100 is connected to external systems then disconnect as instructed by the customer.•Deactivate the alarm delay (if active) by removing the alarm delay jumpers per Figure 7.•To ensure higher accuracy, the IAM-100 should be powered up for at least 24 hours before anytests/calibration or adjustment are made.6.2. Bump TestingAfter installation, it is recommended to perform a bump test to ensure proper functionality of the unit. Expose the sensors to test gas, preferably target gas.The bump test should put the system into alarm. The red LED will light showing the system is in alarm. The delay will prevent the buzzer from sounding and the relay from switching (if the delay is set).To test the buzzer and/or relay function, check the delay is set at zero using the multi-pin connector positions 1 and 2 (as shown in Figure 7) and expose to gas as above. You can mute the buzzer using the mute button.After the gas has cleared and the red LED has switched off you can reset the alarm relay and buzzer by using the reset button (if manual reset has been selected).Before testing the sensors on site the IAM-100 must have been powered up and allowed to stabilize for several hours, preferably over a period of 24 hours.When testing the sensors, also ensure that the IAM Controller functions correctly (if installed) per section 6.4.NOTE: Ideally bump tests are to be conducted at installationsite in a clean air atmosphere.IMPORTANT: After a semiconductor sensor is exposed to asubstantial gas leak, the sensor should be checked andreplaced if necessary. After sensor element replacement,recalibration of the unit using a known concentration of gas isrequired.NOTE: Do not pressurize the sensor.NOTE: You MUST use calibration gas in a balance of air (not N2).NOTE: Prior to carrying out a bump test, check and adjust the zero setting. Refer to Section 6.3.Figure 12. Gas Cylinder and Test Hardware6.3. Checking and Setting the Zero SettingChecking and setting the zero setting may be required upon initial installation. Ensure the unit was powered up for at least 24 hours before making any adjustmentTools Required:• A voltmeter (crocodile clips are recommended)•Factory standby (zero) voltage from side label•ScrewdriverFigure 13. Checking and Setting the Zero Setting 6.4. IAM ControllerIf your installation has an IAM Controller, ensure that the controller’sfunctions are activating accordingly when testing the sensors.Section 7. The titles of tests referred to below are tests available in the calibration system, e.g. Power Level test refers to the Power Level screen in the calibra-tion system. Consult the Calibration Applica-tion online help or User’s Manual for more information on specific calibration tests. TransmitterThe RF power amplifier amplifies transmit RF from the VCO to the output power level (3W 800/900 MHz, 4W UHF/5W VHF). The PA output is fed to the PIN switch, which provides isolation between the transmit and receive paths.An LPF follows the PIN switch and provides attenuation of unwanted high frequency signals.Following the LPF, the signal is fed to the antenna.The output power level is controlled by the microprocessor and associated circuitry, and is initially set by calibrating the radio (Power Level test).Transmit (Tx) audioTx audio from the microphone is processed by the DSP and associated circuitry into two modulation signals, one required by the TCXO in the synthesiser and the other by the VCO.A digital pot is used to set the overall deviation and modulation balance; these are controlled by calibration (Maximum Deviation and Modulation Balance tests).ReceiverRF from the antenna is fed via the LPF and PIN switch into the receiver. The RF passes through the front end tuning circuit, which rejects unwanted frequencies. The front end is electronically tuned, and the front end tuning voltage that sets the centre of the bandpass filter is determined during calibration (Front End Tuning test).The output of the front end tuning stage is fed to the first mixer, and the VCO provides the local oscillator input. The output of the mixer is at the first IF frequency (45.1 MHz UHF/ 21.4 MHz VHF).The IF signal passes through two crystal filters, separated by the IF amplifier.In the Demod IC, the signal passes through the second mixer, producing the second IF (455 kHz). The second IF passes through a ceramic band pass filter and IF amp, which are external to the IC. The second IF is then fed back into the Demod IC for another amplification stage, then through another ceramic band bass filter. The final stage is the phase lock loop (PLL) discriminator in the Demod IC, which produc-es detected audio.A squelch detect circuit detects high frequency audio noise and compares it with a threshold, which is set up by the microprocessor and can be set during calibration (Squelch Thresh-olds test).The RSSI output of the detector circuit provides an analogue indication of the received signal strength. RSSI thresholds are set during calibration (RSSI Thresholds test). Receive (Rx) audioThe detected audio is processed by the DSP, amplified and fed to an internal speaker, whose selection is controlled by a line from themicroprocessor. The speaker output is always available on the accessory connector, to drive an external speaker.The unprocessed audio from the output of the Demod IC (RX-DET-AF) is also available at the accessory connector.All signalling, such as Selcall, CTCSS, DCS, DTMF and FFSK, and all confidence tones are generated by the DSP.The DSP operates in half-duplex mode. That is, its CODEC input and output is switched between the Tx and Rx audio paths, according to whether the radio is transmitting or receiv-ing.Synthesiser and VCOThe synthesiser receives channel frequency information from the microprocessor. It then sets the VCO to the required frequency and maintains its stability using a phase-locked loop. There are one or two VCOs, depending on the radio type. Some bands have one VCO that covers the whole tuning range of the radio plus the IF offset, with its output switched to Tx or Rx. Other bands have a dedicated Tx and Rx VCO.A lock detect output from the synthesiser (LCK-DET) indicates whether the VCO is producing the correct frequency (the radio is in lock). If the frequency is incorrect, the lock detect status prevents the transmitter from operating, and informs the control microproc-essor.The reference frequency for the synthesiser is provided by the TCXO (temperature compen-sated crystal oscillator), which is initially set on frequency using a DC voltage at calibration (TCXO Calibration test).Power supplies+5V-DIGThe +5V-DIG supply provides regulated 5 V to the microprocessor and its associated circuit-ry. It is controlled by the on/off switch and a line from the microprocessor.It provides 5 V to all circuitry that requires power when the radio is in economy mode.+5V-ANThe +5V-AN supply provides the power to all circuitry that requires 5 V when the radio is not in economy mode, mainly all analog circuitry in the receiver, synthesiser and audio modules. It is controlled by a line from the microproces-sor and is a regulated supply.+5V-TXThe +5V TX supply provides power for the exciter stage of the transmitter when the radio is in transmit mode. It is controlled by a line from the microprocessor and is a regulated supply.+7V5-BATTThe +7V5-BATT supply is the unregulated voltage supplied to the radio from the battery. +7V5-ACCThe +7V5-ACC supply is supplied to the acces-sory connector from the battery through a switch and with some current limiting.+7V5-SWThe +7V5-SW switched supply is unregulated voltage supplied to the radio from the battery through a switch.+14VThe +14V regulated supply provides the 14 V required by the loop filter in the synthesiser.A switch mode regulator produces this voltage from the +7V5-SW and +5V-AN supplies.+4V3-DEC The +4V3-DEC supply is derived from the+5V-AN voltage. It is used to power the trans-mit and receive VCOs in conjunction with the transmit control line from the processor. It also provides the loop filter reference in the synthesiser.Accessory connector interface The accessory connector interface is described in Part F: Accessories.Universal band versus wideband IF filteringThe IF filtering for the universal band is designed in a way such that it functionally meets specifications for both narrowband as well as wideband systems.The Deviation and Receive Audio Processing are selectable per channel, which enables the radio to inter-operate between narrowband and wideband channels.。

Step Five: Install peripheral cablingYou can connect printers, terminals, modems (or any other standard EIA-232 device to be controlled by applications on the computer) to the EPC/CON-16 concentrator by installing a cable between the peripheral and the concentrator.On the peripheral end of the cable, the cable connector depends on the requirements of the peripheral. The EPC/CON-16 (or PORTS/Xem mod-ule) end of the cable must fit either an RJ-45 or DB-25 connector, depending on the model you have.The pin assignments for each type of EPC/CON-16 connector are as fol-lows:DB-25 Pin assignmentsRJ-45 pin assignments are shown on the back.RJ-45 Pin AssignmentsRefer to the CD-ROM for more detailed cabling information.What Next?At this point the hardware installation for your EPC/X system is com-plete. However, since the EPC/X adapter and the EPC/CON-16 concen-trators must have software downloaded to their internal RAM before theybecome functional, you must next install the software drivers for youroperating system.•Read the instruction booklet for the CD-ROM that came with yoursystem for instructions on installing software.•View the on-line documentation on the CD-ROM for more informa-tion about your EPC/X system.The Digi logo and AccelePort are registered trademarks of Digi International. The adapter has two lines that can each support one or more con-centrators. Multiple concentrators can be linked in a chain, and DigiPORTS/8em™, PORTS/16em™, Modem/4em™, and/or Modem/8em™modules can be added to a concentrator to expand the number of portsavailable.Figure 44. Before you start your installation, be sure of the following:Number of components. You can connect up to fourteen concentrators and Xem modules onto one EPC/X host adapter (using both lines). It is a good idea to balance the number of connections on each line.Having 12 concentrators and modules on one line, and 2 on the other, for example, may not make the best use of line resource.Location of components. Using the cables that come with the product, concentrators can be located up to ten feet apart. (The daisy-chain cable that comes with each Xem module allows it to be stacked on top of the concentrator to which it is attached via the EBI connector.)If your installation calls for greater distances between concentrators, you can use twisted pair cabling in a maximum cumulative length of up to 2000 feet (600 meters) from the host adapter.Note:The length of twisted pair cabling affects the maximum data transfer rate that can be expected over the cable. The longerthe length, the lower the rate. To maintain a baud rate of 10Mbaud, the maximum cumulative twisted pair cable lengthcannot exceed 30 feet (9 meters).You can also use fiber optic cable (a special fiber optic conversion option is available from Digi) that will allow a distance of up to 1.2 miles (2000 meters) from the adapter.For even greater distances, you can attach a synchronous modemdirectly to the adapter, and remotely locate concentrators and Xem modules to a second synchronous modem.Cabling. Before beginning the installation, be sure that you have the cables that you will need for the distances between concentrators, as well as cables for the peripherals that you will be attaching to the con-centrators and Xem modules. EPC/X system concentrators andPORTS/Xem modules are available with RJ-45 or DB-25 connectors for peripheral cabling. You will need to be sure that you have cables of the correct length and with the right connectors to properly attach the devices you want to use with each concentrator or Xem module. Power Requirements. Each EPC/CON-16 concentrator (and Modem/Xem module) requires its own power supply. Before pro-ceeding with installation, you should verify that adequate line power is available where each concentrator (and Modem/Xem) will beinstalled. Note that PORTS/Xem modules do not require power sup-plies when attached to an EPC/CON-16 concentrator.Additional information about the options available with the EPC/X system, such as specifications and cabling details, is provided on the CD-ROM that is packaged with the host adapter.Step Two: Install the EPC/X PCI host adapterBefore installing the EPC/X host adapter, you should do the following:•Wear an ESD wrist strap to ground yourself while handling theadapter. If one is not available, discharge static electricity from yourbody by touching an unpainted metal surface, such as the computer’schassis, prior to handling the adapter.•Record the adapter serial number, which will enable Digi to provideyou with better service, should the need arise.The serial number label has this general format: S/N: (S) XXX XXXXX•Unplug power from the PC.1.Remove the computer’s cover.2.Locate an available PCI slot in your computer and remove the slotplate.3.Insert the adapter into the slot and screw the endplate to the computerchassis. The endplate must be screwed into the computer chassis toremain in compliance with Part 15 of FCC rules.4.Replace the computer’s cover.5.Attach an EIA-422 cable to the connector of each line you will use onthe adapter.Step Three: Install concentrators and add-ons1.Position concentrators and Xem modules (if any) at the location youhave prepared according to the plan you developed in Step One.2.Attach the cable from line l on the adapter to the connector labelledHOST ADAPTER on the first concentrator of the chain that is to beconnected to Line 1.Figure 45. Side Panel of EPC/CON-16 moduleIf you are cabling multiple concentrators together, attach anothercable to the REMOTE connector of the first concentrator. Connect thiscable to the HOST ADAPTER connector of the second concentrator.Continue cabling until all concentrators in the chain are connected.3.Install a terminator plug in the REMOTE connector of the last concen-trator in the chain.4.Repeat steps 2 and 3 for Line 2 on the adapter (if you are using it).5.To cable PORTS/Xem or Modem/Xem modules to the EBI bus of aconcentrator, attach one end of an EBI cable to the EBI OUT connec-tor on a concentrator and the other end to the EBI IN connector on theadd-on module. Continue similarly using the EBI IN and EBI OUTconnectors on the add-on modules until all the add-ons for a concen-trator are cabled together.6.Attach power supplies to the concentrators (and Modem/Xem mod-ules).7.Turn on power to the unit(s).Step Four: Set the node numbersEach concentrator must have a unique node number so the adapter canrecognize it on the chain. In general, you should set the node number of aconcentrator according to its relative position in the chain. For example,the concentrator closest to the adapter would be node 1, the second wouldbe node 2, and so on. To set the node number, do the following:1.Wait until you see P1 displayed on the front panel of the unit (about30 seconds after you power on the unit). This indicates that thePower-on Self Test has successfully completed.2.Press the right arrow button once to display the current node number.(1n is the default.)3.Press the left arrow button to increment the node number. Node num-bers go up to 8n and then return to 1n.4.To save the node number currently displayed on the front panel, pressthe right arrow button once. If the number was successfully saved toEEPROM, the display will read Pn.。
