第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分30分)
第一节(共10小题,每小题2分,满分20分)
A
Like most people, I was brought up to look upon life as a process of getting. It was not until in my late thirties that I made this important discovery: giving away makes life much more exciting. You need
not worry if you lack money.
This is how I experimented with giving away. If an idea for improving the window display of a neighborhood store flashes to me, I step in and make the suggestion to the storekeeper. One discovery I made about giving away is that it is almost impossible to give away anything in this world without getting something back, though the return often comes in an unexpected form.
One Sunday morning, the local post office delivered an important special delivery letter to my home, though it was addressed to me at my office. I wrote the postmaster a note of appreciation. More than a year later I needed a post office box for a new business I was starting. I was told at the window that there were no boxes left, and that my name would have to go on a long waiting list. As I was about to leave, the postmaster appeared in the doorway. He had overheard(无意中听到)our conversation. “Wasn't it you that wrote us that letter a year ago about delivering a special delivery to your home?” I said yes. “We ll, you certainly are going to have a box in this post office if we have to make one for you. You don't know what a letter like that means to us. We usually get nothing but complaints.”
21.From the passage, we understand that ________.
A.the author did not understand the importance of giving until he was in late thirties
B.the author was like most people who were mostly receivers rather than givers
C.the author received the same education as most people during his childhood
D.the author liked most people as they looked upon life as a process of getting
22.The author would make the suggestion to the storekeeper ________.
A.in writing
B.in person
C.in the window display
D.about the neighborhood
23.When the author needed a post office box, ________.
A.he had put his name on a waiting list
B.he wrote the postmaster a note of appreciation
C.many people had applied for post office boxes before him
D.he asked the postmaster to make one for him

Security—for the information on your smart phone, as well as for the phone itself—is a hot topic these days. The truth is that you're packing a lot of sensitive information on your phone, and you should keep it safe.
When it comes to physical security, iPhone users would do well to download Find My iPhone, a free app from Apple that allows you to visit a website and see your (lost, stolen or misplaced) phone on the map.You can then sound an alarm, send a message that will pop up on its screen, lock the phone or erase all your data.
Android does not have an exact equivalent(等价物), but there are plenty of alternatives.A free app called Lookout offers the findmyphone feature. The paid version allows you to wipe the data from your phone remotely.
Then there is your coffee shop's WiFi ne twork.Anyone with minimal technical expert skill can snoop on(窥视) people using shared wireless networks, harvesting passwords and other personal data.Lookout will
caution you when you've logged on to an insecure network, but cannot protect you once you're there.
In order to protect yourself on such networks, you can use a virtual private network, or VPN.This turns all your activity into nonsense to anyone trying to read along with you from across Starbucks. It also keeps websites from tracking you and, if you're travelling, allows you to get access to sites that may be blocked in other countries.
If you have an iPhone, the simplest VPN app is probably Hotspot Shield, whose distinguishing feature is said to be that it automatically kicks in each time you start browsing (浏览), as opposed to other VPN apps that require you to start them up manually(手动地).This matters, because even if you decide you want a VPN app, you want to spend approximately zero time thinking about it.For the most part, that was true of Hotspot Shield, though occasionally it took a while to connect or temporarily lost connection without warning.I found myself having to turn the app on and off sometimes, which involved setting my phone constantly. If even reading about the settings on your phone drive you crazy, then it is probably best to stay away from a VPN app.But if you're the type who can't resist checking your bank balance from your corner bar, the hassle(麻烦) may be preferable to the risk.
24.Which of the following can warn you against the insecure network?
A.Android. B.VPN.
C.Lookout. D.Find My iPhone.
25.By using VPN, users can ________.
A.find their lost phones on the Internet
B.remove all the data from the phone remotely
C.check the bank balance now and then
D.save their browsing from being tracked
26.The underlined word “that” in Para.6 refers to the fact that ________.
A.a VPN app kicks in automatically
B.the users start VPN apps manually
C.the app takes a while to connect
D.users spend no time thinking about it
C
Most of us spend our lives seeking the natural world. We go fishing, sit in the garden, have a picnic, live in the suburbs or go to the seaside. The most popular leisure activity in Britain is going for a walk. When joggers jog, they don't run the streets.Every one of them tend to go to the park or the river.
But despite this, our children are growing up naturedeprived(剥夺).I spent my boyhood climbing trees. These days, children are robbed of these ancient freedoms, due to problems like crime, traffic, the loss of the open spaces and strange new ideas about what is best for children, that is to say, things that can be bought, rather than things that can be found.
The truth is to be found elsewhere.A study in the US: families had moved to better housing and the children were assessed for ADHD—attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(多动症).Those whose accommodation had more natural views showed an improvement of 19%; those who had the same improvement in material surroundings but no nice view improved just 4%.
ADHD is one of the great problems of modern childhood. One study after another indicates that contact with nature gives huge benefits to ADHD children. However, we spend money on drugs rather than on green places.
The life of old people is measurably better when they have access to nature. The increasing concern for the growing population of old people is in quality rather than quantity of years. And study after study finds that a garden is the single most important thing in finding that quality.Even problems with crime and aggressive behaviour are reduced when there is contact with the natural world.
We need the wild world. It is essential to our wellbeing, our health and our happiness.
27.According to the author, people enjoy ________ to seek nature.
A.jogging on the street
B.sitting in the garden
C.shopping in the supermarket
D.running in the gym
28.From the second paragraph, we can see that ________.
A.adults deprive the children of their rights to approach nature
B.climbing trees will certainly do good to the children
C.children probably spend less time in nature nowadays
D.children tend to be happier as a result of their material satisfaction
29.In what way do people benefit from their contact with nature?
A.Children with ADHD can be cured.
B.A garden nearby improves the quality of old people's life.
C.Problems with crime and violent behaviour will easily be solved.
D.Children's performance at school is greatly improved.
30.What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Access to nature improves our life.
B.Nature treats children for ADHD.
C.Getting close to nature reduces crime.
D.Man can't live without natural areas.
第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer. ___31___ Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.
For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷尔蒙). They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc. ___32___
Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.
___33___ They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “___34___ Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. ___35___
A. In general the person feels excited and ready to act.
B. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.
C. Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.
D. Anger may cause you a cancer.
E. Do not express your anger while angry.
F. Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.
G. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.

Text 10
During the past ten years or so, I have been suffering from terrible headaches. And it seems to be getting worse. Late last night, I got a sudden headache that was worse than all the others. It was so terrible that I could hardly bear it. Although I took all kinds of painkillers, I didn’t feel any better. It seemed that there was nothing else I could do, so I called my doctor and asked him to come over. One of our neighbors happened to b e with us at the time. He was not a doctor, but he offered his help, saying, “Do you mind if I try a special kind of traditional Chinese treatment on you? These needles might help with your headaches.” I agreed. He quickly took out a few needles from his bag. Without a moment’s delay, he put a few needles into the skin on my head in several different places. Before long, I felt completely better.
Just then, the doctor came running into my house and said, “Where is our patient?”
“Sorry, Doctor. You are too late. The pain is gone!” I answered in delight. “It’s a miracle(奇迹), isn’t it?”

Dear Sir/Madam
I am a student in China and I plan to go to Britain to attend a summer school during the vacation. I’ve
seen your ad, and I’d like to know something more about your six-week English course. First when will the course start and how many class hours are there per week? Besides, I wish there would not be too many students in a class. I’d also like to know how much I have to pay for the course and whether accommodation is included Would there be host family or university dormitory?
I am looking forward to your early reply.
Yours faithfully,
Li Hu。
