Microfinance is becoming a big business. It started as a way to provide very small loans(贷款)to people in developing countries so they could begin to move themselves out of poverty.A few hundred dollars could mean a lot to a poor businessman with a promising idea.Mr Cook,an economist, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his work with banking for the poor.He formed the Green Bank in 1983.Today there are microfinance providers all over the world And anyone can be a microlender through a site like Kiva.org.You choose a project and provide at least twenty-five dollars of the amount requested.Three out of four loans have gone to women, which is common with microfinance.
Kiva spokeswoman Ramsey says the site has grown even with the economic downturn. The total value of loans made through Kiva, she says,is nearing fifty-two million dollars. The downturn has not had a big effect on loan repayments either. The current repayment rate is ninety-seven percent. But Ramsey says that because of the credit crisis, microfinance organizations are finding it harder to get loans from banks.
Kiva works with microfinance organizations in forty-two countries. These “field partners”
keep the interest charged on the loans. The average term is twelve months. And the average interest rate is almost twenty-three percent.
Returns like that help explain why microfinance now includes big hanks and other lenders.Mr.Cook has said he worries that lenders may be more interested in profits than poverty reduction.Borrowers,he says, are often misled about the true price of a loan.“For twenty years we set the price to cover the cost. Now,some organizations are setting the price to whatever they can get away with,”he says.
He supports a new effort based in the United States called Microfinance Transparency. The aim is to prevent abuses by letting borrowers compare pricing information from different lenders.56.Small loans are becoming more and more popular in the world because .A.they are mostly provided to women
B.they are very important for some websites
C.their average term is only one year
D.they help reduce poverty and provide lenders with profits
57.According to the passage, what would be the interest earned on a loan of 100 dollars for one year?
A.77 dollars B.97 dollars C.3 dollars D.23 dollars 58.The writer intends to tell us that .
A.Mr.Cook was honored for founding a bank and a website
B.microfinance is a great success, though there are still problems to be solved
C.lenders a well as borrowers should get away with all that they can
D.now all borrowers can avoid being misled by comparing different pricing information

For over 2,000 years, the examination of the pulse has been a mysterious skill in Traditional Chinese Medicine.Although many Westerners may have known something about methods like inspecting。
listening, enquiring, and pulse reading as a tool to determine physical condition was not common knowledge. It is therefore worth our effort to take a closer look at it.There are three positions on each wrist which are used for analysis:the front, middle and back。
These parts are analyzed at three different levels:superficial, middle and deep.On the left wrist, the front position focuses on the condition of the heart and small intestine (小肠),the middle position concentrates on the functions of the liver and gall bladder(胆囊),and the back position is connected with the kidney. The lungs and 1arge intestine are the centre of attention in the front position on the right wrist, with the middle position focusing on the spleen and stomach and the back taking note of the “Gate of Vitality Fire”.This is the heat provider for all bodily functions.
In regards to the various levels.the superficial level reflects the state of energy, the middle level shows the state of blood flow.and the deep level is an indication of the state of the Yin organs.Suppose that the pulse m the left middle position was soft and smooth, neither superficial nor deep,it would suggest that the liver and gall bladder are in a good state of health.Checking the pulse is actually far more complex.Doctors need to be able to recognize 26 different pulse categories. For example,a scattered pulse which is irregular and hardly noticeable is a sign that a patient is critically ill and nearing death.Other categories include the rapid pulse, probably a sign of a fever, or the tense pulse, which may suggest that the patient is suffering from pain; Many pulses only have slight differences。
thus, pulse examination is often seen as being more than just a skill but an actual art form.
This kind of medical diagnosis can be affected by many factors,so before any examination.it is important that patients are in a relaxed physical and mental state so they can get the most accurate reading. The morning is often the best time to take such a reading,as a busy day in the office or vigorous exercise before seeing the doctor can influence the quality of the pulse. The right amount of pressure must be applied n the doctor for the right duration of time.Patients’characteristics are also of importance.Children, for instance, have quick pulses and athletes have slower than usual ones.Eyen seasonal influences need to be taken into account.62.Which of the following is the most suitable title for this passage?
A.Chinese Pulse Checking
B.Brief Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine
C.What Makes a Good Doctor
D.Difficulties in Pulse Checking
63.The underlined phrase “taking note of'’in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to .
A.controlling B.handling C.reflecting D.adjusting
64.Which factor is NOT mentioned as possibly influencing the accuracy of a pulse reading?

B.pulse reading requires a long period of time study and practice

room sofa.gazing at the ceiling.I was thinking of the hospital. We had g one there that afternoon to visit my father for Valentine’s Day.Daddy was in a high bed that was folded in half some way.He looked alright to me.I didn’t know why he kept going to that place anyway.
I sat as quietly as possible. My trouble was that I wanted to hug him and I was afraid of what Mama would say if I climbed up on his bed to do it.I didn’t know why she would mind—I only knew she would.Sometimes she said I was too rough. But I was such a little girl and Daddy was so big…how could I hurt him? I thought there must be some other reason why he couldn’t wrestle with me like he used to.Maybe he was too fired.
My parents talked for a long time while I 1onked out of the window and played with my brother and sister.I didn’t like that place and I wanted to go.There didn’t seem to be anything to do there. Then, all at once,we were leaving.Daddy called me to his bedside and told me to be sure to say my prayers.I said I would and kissed him quickly on the cheek. Then I was glad to leave that building. The people in t here were sick…except,of course,my Daddy. He was not sick at a11.
As I settled comfortably into the depths of the sofa, deep in thought.I was startled by the shrill sound of the telephone. That made me angry-now Mama would get up and find I was not sleeping yet.Why did somebody have to call then anyway?
Just as I had suspected,Mama appeared.Mama spoke for only a few minutes, asking questions like “when?” and “how?” She shook me then and told me to go into my own room.I knew it-the telephone call would ruin everything. Then she woke my oldest sister. In a few seconds the whole house was buzzing with some sort of news.“At eleven o’clock.”“…it had to happen sometime…”“…too young to be dead.”I heard these phrases, but I couldn’t put together their meaning.
Mama came then and told me he was dead.My Daddy was dead? No! No! No! It was not
true.He couldn’t be dead.He was alive-he had kissed me only that afternoon.People didn’t die just like that! It was not like stepping on a fly…people took years to die…they only died when they were old…very old with gray hair and wrinkles and stooped bodies.Young people don’t die.Not people I knew…not anyone I 1oved.Not my father! He was mine and no one could take my father away from me.He would 1ive forever.
I hated that person who called. It was not true and that was a horrible thing to say.It was not funny. It scared me.Mama believed it,though. She shouldn’t.If she only 1istened to me I’d tell her the truth…IT ISN’T TRUE…IT ISN’T!
Just wait—next time Daddy came home I’d tell him about the p erson who called. He’d laugh and say Mama shouldn’t have taken it seriously. After a11.That Couldn’t happen. He was not even sick.
And do you know what else would happen when Daddy came home the next time? I would jump on his lap and hug him until he couldn’t even breathe! And he wouldn’t mind—because that’s what daddies were for.
66.The little girl’s mother would not let her hug her father because.
A.she was not allowed to do that in the hospital

Psychologists tell us that there are four basic stages that human beings pass through when they enter and live in a new culture. This process, which helps us to deal with culture shock,is the way our brain and our personality reacts to the strange new things we meet with when we move from one culture to another.
Culture shock begins with the “honeymoon stage”.This is the period of time when we first arrive in which everything about the new culture is strange and exciting. We may be suffering from “jet lag” but we are thrilled to be in the new environment. You see new sights, hear new sounds and language and eat new kinds of food. This honeymoon stage can last for quite a long time because we feel we are involved in some kind of great adventure.
Unfortunately, the second stage of culture shock can be more difficult. After we have settled down into our new 1ife,we can become very tired and begin to miss our homeland and our family. This period of cultural adjustment can be very difficult and lead to the new arrival rejecting or pulling away from the new culture. This “rejection stage’’ can be quite dangerous because the visitor may develop unhealthy habits. This stage is considered a crisis in the process of cultural adjustment and many people choose to go back to their homeland or spend all their time with people from their own culture speaking their native language.Almost all the little problems that everybody has in daily life seem to be much bigger and more disturbing when faced within a foreign culture.
The third stage of culture shock is called the “adjustment stage”.This is when you begin to
realize that things are not so bad in the host culture.Your sense of humour usually becomes stronger and you realize that you are becoming stronger by learning to take care of yourself in the new place.Things are sti11 difficult, but you are now a survivor!
The fourth stage can be called “adaptation”.Now you feel quite comfortable in your new surroundings. You can cope with most problems that occur. You may still have problems with the language, but you know you at e strong enough to deal with them.If you meet someone from your country who has just arrived, you can be the expert on life in the new culture and help them to deal with their culture shock.
There is a fifth stage of culture shock which many people don’t know about. This is called “reverse culture shock”.Surprisingly, this occurs when you go back to your native culture and find that you have changed and that things there have changed while you have been away. Now you feel a little uncomfortable back home.Life is a struggle!

W:You see? I can’t sleep very well.Could I have some.sleeping pills,perhaps?
M:Hm,why can’t you sleep?.
W:I don’t know really.
M:Is anything worrying you?
W:Well...perhaps...I’m working very hard...We’re very busy at the moment.
M:Well,I don’t really like giving patients sleeping pills. You must have a good rest...forget all about work.If you can’t sleep, have a hot bath before you go to bed,and the read a boring book.Don’t choose a book that’s very exciting.Don’t drink coffee...
W:Oh,but I like a drink before I go to bed.
M:OK,but have a glass of milk.Have some fruit or bread—but don’t have a big meal in the evening.
