Jack had an unusual experience last night. He is sharing it with his friends. Ken and May.
Ken: What were you doing, Jack? What did you see?
Jack: It was half past nine last night and I was getting ready for bed. I heard some strange noise outside while I was brushing my teeth. I wondered what was happening and I went to the window and looked
out. To my surprise, I saw a bright yellow green light in the sky.
May: Maybe the light you saw was a UFO! Or a ghost! A few years ago, an American man saw a flying saucer(飞碟) while he was driving along a road. He also saw some strange yellow light. You have heard about
it, haven’t you?
Ken: Don’t be imaginative, May. Jack didn’t see anything, or anybody. It wasn’t a ghost. It was probably a plane, or a shooting star. Perhaps Jack just made a horrible dream!
Jack: I am very serious. I did see something. The light disappeared and then suddenly some “tiny people”
were standing in the garden. There were four of them. Two of them ate some flowers in the garden.
Ken: Oh, come on, Jack. I really doubt what you have said.
Jack: I am not joking! One of the people was looking at me through the window.
May: Really? What did it look like? Were you frightened?
Jack: Its whole body was green. It had no ears and nose. Its hands were huge. Its eyes were very big and looked like eggs. It looked at me and I could hardly move.
Ken: What happened then?
Jack: I was able to move eventually. I ran and got my camera at once.

As a student, I was most afraid to answer questions in class, and I found that the students around were just like me. At the beginning of each class, when the teacher asked a question, I always lowered my head because I was afraid that the teacher saw me.
One day, in a foreign language class, Mr. Black gave us a lesson. He wanted us to be active in class, so he asked us some questions, but no one answered. "Let me tell you a story first," he said.
"When I came to the United States to study, the university often invited famous people to make speeches. Before the beginning of every speech, I found an interesting thing. The students around me always took a cardboard folded (折叠的) in half, wrote their names in bold with the most eye-catching color, and then placed the cardboard on the seat. So when the speaker needed the answers from the students, he could see and call a listener's name directly."
"I couldn't understand that. My classmate told me the speakers were all top people, who meant chances. When your answer was to his surprise, it meant he might give you more chances. In fact, I really saw a few students got great chances because of that."
After listening to the story, I understood that the chance will not find you itself. You must show yourself all the time so that you can find a chance on the card.
( ) 4. How did the writer's classmates behave when they were asked questions?
A. They raised their hands.
B. They shook their heads.

C. Attracting others' attention is interesting.
D. Showing yourself bravely can win chances.

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are the good examples. They have developed technology and brought great progress (进步) to human besides making money for themselves.
Older people should believe that it is never too late to dream and that human mind is never too old to make dreams turn into reality. Colonel Saunders realized his dreams at the age of 67 and set up the biggest fried chicken company (KFC) in the world.
To dream is a wonderful ability which can lead to wonderful results. Olympic records were broken by players who were brave enough to dream. No one is too young or too old to dream and to make dreams come true.
( ) 10. Young people should be encouraged to dream because ______.
A. their dreams are natural
B. they are greater than everyone else

A hobby is an activity we can do in our free time, so that we can keep ourselves busy with something that makes us happy. Different people have different kinds of hobbies, according to their personal likes and dislikes. Hobbies are activities we choose to do, but not activities we have to do. There is a lot of difference between wanting to do something and having to do it. We only want to do those things we
like to do, and things that give us pleasure and peace of mind.
Hobbies play a very important role in our lives. For example, they are a way of connecting us with our inner self. The time devoted to taking up a hobby is our own time. This is the time when we can connect and communicate with ourselves. During this personal time, we can do whatever we like. Doing things according to our own wishes gives us a sense of inner satisfaction, and also helps develop self-confidence.
Hobbies also help discover talents. There is a possibility that we are interested in a certain activity, but have never ha d a chance to try it. If we develop our interest as our hobbies, it’s quite clear that we’ll do it with great interest. So, even if we have never tried a certain thing before, we can still learn to do it. The hobbyists’ hidden talents can be discovered, and this can make them feel more confident.
It’s human nature to try to know more about the things we like. The moment we pursue (追求) some activities as our favorite hobbies, we want to gain more knowledge about the same hobby. Whether it’s gardening, cooking, painting or collecting stamps, we always try to get a deeper understanding of what we’re doing, so that we can do it more correctly. What’s more, we also happen to meet people with similar tastes and sometimes, owning rich knowledge about their hobbies. Besides gaining knowledge, hobbies also provide us with a chance to meet people who share similar likes and dislikes with us.
Whatever our hobbies are, they can be developed at any age, as a child or as an adult. However, if we begin at a young age, we can get more time to experience the joys. The hobby may grow with us, and some day, may also take us to great heights.

Wuxi Underground has been in use since June, 2014. Some people think it’s faster and easier to take the underground and it is much safer. One underground ticket is not very expensive. If people go out by underground instead of driving their own cars, the road will be less crowded. And there will be less air and noise pollution, too. So, it is good for protecting the environment. Luckily, people will have one more choice to go to other places. I think the underground is great. I will choose to go out by underground.。
