2022年考研英语一真题答案之阅读理解真题Text3(附完整版答案)

2022年考研英语一真题答案之阅读理解真题Text3(附完整版答案)2022年考研英语一阅读理解真题Text 3As a historian who’s always searching for the text or the image that makes us re-evaluate the past, I’ve become preoccupied with looking for photographs that show our Victorian ancestors smiling (what better way to shatter the image of 19th-century prudery?). I’ve found quite a few, and—since I started posting them on Twitter—they have been causing quite a stir. People have been surprised to see evidence that Victorians had fun and could, and did, laugh. They are noting that the Victorians suddenly seem to become more human as the hundred-or-so years that separate us fade away through our common experience of laughter.Of course, I need to concede that my collection of ‘Smiling Victorians’ makes up only a tiny percentage of the vast catalogue of photographic portraiture created between 1840 and 1900, ... How do we explain this trend?During the 1840s and 1850s, in the early days of photography, exposure times were notoriously long: the daguerreotype photographic method (producing an image on a silvered copper plate) could take several minutes to complete, .., and so a non-committal blank stare became the norm. But exposure times were much quicker by the 1880s, and the introduction of the Box Brownie and other portable cameras meant that, though slow by today’s digitalstandards, the exposure was almost instantaneous. Spontaneous smiles were relatively easy to capture by the 1890s, so we must look elsewhere for an explanation of why Victorians still hesitated to smile. One explanation might be the loss of dignity displayed through a cheesy grin. “Nature gave us lips to conceal our teeth,” ran one popular Victorian saying, alluding to the fact that before the birth of proper dentistry, mouths were often in a shocking state of hygiene. A flashing set of hea lthy and clean, regular ‘pearly whites’ was a rare sight in Victorian society, the preserve of the super-rich (and even then, dental hygiene was not guaranteed).A toothy grin (especially when there were gaps or blackened teeth) lacked class: drunks, tramps and music hall performers might gurn and grin with a smile as wide as Lewis Carroll’s gum-exposing Cheshire Cat, but it was not a becoming look for properly bred persons. Even Mark Twain, a man who enjoyed a hearty laugh, said that when it came to photog raphic portraits there could be “nothing more damning than a silly, foolish smile fixed forever”.31. According to Paragraph 1, the author’s posts on Twitter ______.A. changed people’s impression of the VictoriansB. highlighted social media’s role in Vic torian studiesC. re-evaluated the Victorians’ notion of public imageD. illustrated the development of Victorian photography32. What does the author say about the Victorian portraits he has collected?A. They are in popular use among historians.B. They are rare among photographs of that age.C. They mirror 19th-century social conventions.D. They show effects of different exposure times.33. What might have kept the Victorians from smiling for pictures in the 1890s?A. Their inherent social sensitiveness.B. Their tension before the camera.C. Their distrust of new inventions.D. Their unhealthy dental condition.34. Mark Twain is quoted to show that the disapproval of smiles in pictures was ______.A. a deep-rooted beliefB. a misguided attitudeC. a controversial viewD. a thought-provoking idea35. Which of the following questions does the text answer?A. Why did most Victorians look stern in photographs?B. Why did the Victorians start to view photographs?C. What made photography develop slowly in the Victorian period?D. How did smiling in photographs become a post-Victorian norm?答案:B、A、A、B、C。

英语阅读理解3级Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill that is essential for academic and professional success. It involves the ability to understand and interpret written text, extract relevant information, and draw meaningful conclusions. For non-native English speakers, achieving a high level of reading comprehension in English can be particularly challenging, but it is a crucial step in mastering the language. One of the key aspects of reading comprehension is the ability to understand the overall meaning and purpose of a text. This requires not only understanding the individual words and sentences, but also recognizing the underlying themes, ideas, and arguments being presented. Effective readers are able to identify the main ideas, supporting details, and the overall structure of a text, allowing them to better comprehend the author's intended message.Another important aspect of reading comprehension is the ability to make inferences and draw conclusions based on the information provided in the text. This involves using contextual clues, priorknowledge, and logical reasoning to fill in gaps or make logical deductions that are not explicitly stated. Skilled readers are able to read between the lines and understand the implicit meanings and implications of a text.In addition to understanding the overall meaning and purpose of a text, reading comprehension also involves the ability to critically analyze and evaluate the information presented. This includes identifying the author's perspective, evaluating the validity and reliability of the information, and considering alternative viewpoints or interpretations. Effective readers are able to engage with the text, ask questions, and form their own opinions and conclusions. One of the key challenges for non-native English speakers in developing reading comprehension skills is the complexity of the English language itself. English is a language with a vast vocabulary, intricate grammar rules, and a range of idioms, metaphors, and cultural references that can be difficult for non-native speakers to understand. Additionally, the structure and organization of English texts can be quite different from the structures used in other languages, which can further complicate the comprehension process. To overcome these challenges, non-native English speakers must engage in regular and targeted practice. This may involve reading a variety of texts, from academic articles and news reports to literatureand business documents, and actively working to understand the content, structure, and language used. Additionally, learners can benefit from strategies such as pre-reading, active reading techniques, and post-reading reflection and analysis. One effective strategy for improving reading comprehension is to focus on building vocabulary. By expanding their knowledge of English words, their meanings, and their usage, non-native speakers can better understand the content and context of the texts they read. This can involve studying word roots, prefixes, and suffixes, as well as learning common idioms and collocations.Another important strategy is to develop a strong understanding of English grammar and sentence structure. By mastering the rules of grammar, learners can better interpret the relationships between words and ideas within a text, and more accurately comprehend the overall meaning. In addition to these language-focused strategies, non-native English speakers can also benefit from developing broader critical thinking and analytical skills. By learning to ask questions, identify key ideas, and draw connections between different parts of a text, learners can enhance their overall reading comprehension abilities.Ultimately, achieving a high level of reading comprehension inEnglish requires a combination of language proficiency, critical thinking skills, and dedicated practice. For non-native speakers, it is a challenging but rewarding journey that can open up new opportunities for academic, professional, and personal growth. By developing strong reading comprehension skills, learners can not only better understand and engage with written texts, but also enhance their ability to communicate, problem-solve, and think critically in English.。

Text 3If you’re heading for your nearest branch of Waterstones, the biggest book retailer in the UK, in search of the Duchess of Sussex’s new children’s book The Bench, you might have to be prepared to hunt around a bit; the same may be true of The President's Daughter, the new thriller by Bill Clinton and James Patterson. Both of these books are published next week by Penguin Random House, a company currently involved in a stand-off with Waterstones. The problem began late last year, when Penguin Random House confirmed that it had introduced a credit limit with Waterstones “at a very significant level”. The trade magazine The Bookseller reported that Waterstones branch managers were being told to remove PRH books from prominent areas such as tables, display spaces and windows, and were “quietly retiring them to their relevant sections”.PRH declined to comment on the issue, but a spokesperson for Waterstones told me: “Waterstones are currently operating with reduced credit terms from PRH, the only publisher in the UK to place any limitations on our ability to trade. We are not boycotting PRH titles but we are doing our utmost to ensure that availability for customers remains good despite the lower overall levels of stock. We are hopeful with our shops now open again that normality will return and that we will be allowed to buy appropriately. Certainly, our shops are exceptionally busy and book sales are very strong. The sales for our May Books of the Month surpassed any month since 2018.”In the meantime, PRH authors have been the losers. Big-name PRH authors may suffer a bit, but it’s those mid-list authors, who normally rely on Waterstones staff’s passion for promoting books by lesser-known writers, who will be praying for an end to the dispute. It comes at a time when authors are already worried about the consequences of the proposed merger between PRH and another big publisher, Simon & Schuster - the reduction in the number of unaligned UK publishers is likely to lead to fewer bidding wars, lower advances, and more conformity in terms of what is published.“This is all part of a wider change towards concentration of power and cartels. Literary agencies are getting bigger to have the clout to negotiate better terms with publishers, publishers consolidating to deal wi th Amazon,” says Lownie. “The publishing industry talks about diversity in terms of authors and staff but it also needs a plurality of ways of delivering intellectual contact, choice and different voices. After all, many of the most interesting books in re cent years have come from small publishers.”We shall see whether that plurality is a casualty of the current need among publishers to be big enough to take on all-comers.31. The author mentions two books in Paragraph 1 to present ______.[A] an ongoing conflict[B] an intellectual concept[C] a prevailing sentiment[D] a literary phenomenon32. Why did Waterstones shops retire PRH books to their relevant section?[A] to make them easily noticeable[B] to comply with PRH’s requirement[C] t o respond to PRH’s business move[D] to arrange them in a systematic way33. What message does the spokesperson for Waterstones seem to convey?[A] Their customer remain loyal.[B] The credit limit will be removed.[C] Their stock is underestimated.[D] The book market is rather slack.34. What can be one consequence of the current dispute?[A] Sales of books by mid-list PRH writers fall off considerably.[B] Lesser-known PRH writers become the target of criticism.[C] Waterstones staff hesitate to promote big-name author’s book.[D] Waterstones branches suffer a severe reduction in revenue.35. Which of the following statements best represents Lownie’s view?[A] Small publishers ought to stick together.[B] Big publishers will lose their dominance.[C] The publishing industry is having a hard time.[D] The merger of publishers is a worrying trend.答案解析:31.【答案】[A] an ongoing conflict【解析】本题为例证题。

大学英语四级考试阅读材料每日一练(五)
Passage 5
Nursing at Beth Israel Hospital produces the best patient care possible. If we are to solve the nursing shortage, hospital administration and doctors everywhere would do well to follow Beth Israel’s example.
At Beth Israel each patient is assigned to a primary nurse who visits at length with the patient and constructs a full-scale health account that covers everything from his medical history to his emotional state. Then she writes a care plan centered on the patient’s illness but which also includes everything else that is necessary.
The primary nurse stays with the patient through his hospitalization, keeping track with his progress and seeking further advice from his doctor. If a patient at Beth Israel is not responding to treatment, it is not uncommon for his nurse to propose another approach to his doctor. What the doctor at Beth Israel has in the primary nurse is a true colleague.
Nursing at Beth Israel also involves a decentralized(分散的)nursing administration; every floor, every unit is a self-contained organization. There are nurse-managers instead of head nurses; in addition to their medical duties they do all their own hiring and dismissing, employee advising, and they make salary recommendations. Each unit’s nurses decide among themselves who will work what shifts and when.
Beth Israel’s nurse-in-chief ranks as an equal with other vice presidents of the hospital. She also is a member of the Medical Executive Committee, which in most hospitals includes only doctors.
21. Which of the following best characterized the main feature of the nursing system at Beth Israel Hospital?
A)The doctor gets more active professional support from the primary nurse
B)Each patient is taken care of by a primary nurse day and night
C)The primary nurse writes care plans for every patient
D)The primary nurse keeps records of the patient’s health conditions every day.
22. It can inferred from the passage that________
A)compared with other hospitals nurses at Beth Israel Hospital are more patient
B)in most hospitals patient care is inadequate from the professional point of view
C)in most hospitals nurses get low salaries.
D)compared with other hospitals nurses have to work longer hours at Beth Israel Hospital 23. A primary nurse can propose a different approach of treatment when_______
A)the present one is refused by the patient
B)the patient complains about the present one
C)the present one proves to be ineffective
D)the patient is found unwilling to cooperate
24. The main difference between a nurse-manager and a head nurse is that the former_______ A)is a member of the Medical Executive Committee of the hospital
B)has to arrange the work shifts of the unit’s nurses
C)can make decisions concerning the medical treatment of a patient
D)hasfull responsibility in the administration of the unit’s nurses.
25. The author’s attitude。
