The way people hold to the belief that a fun filled, pain free life equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever attaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness then pain must be equal to unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true: more often than not things that lead to happiness involve some pain.As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true happiness. They fear the pain inevitably brought by such things as marriage, raising children, professional achievement, religious commitment, self-improvement.Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment. For commitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure, excitement. Marriage has such moments, but they are not its most distinguishing features.Couples with infant children are lucky to get a whole night’s sl eep or a three day vacation. I don’t know any parent who would choose the fun to describe raising children. But couples who decide not to have children never know the joys of watching a child grow up or of playing with a grandchild.Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations. It liberates time: nowwe can devote more hours to activities that can genuinely increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes that will do nothing to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy: we now understand that all those who are always having so much fun actually may not be happy at all.According to the author, a bachelor resists marriage chiefly because ______.A. he is reluctant to take on family responsibilitiesB. he believes that life will be more cheerful if he remains singleC. he finds more fun in dating than in marriageD. he fears it will put an end to all his fun adventure and excitement[答案]A【精析】根据文中第三段第二句If he is honest he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment. For commitment is in fact quite painful.

Passage oneThere are different ideas about pets in different parts of the world. In most cultures, animals are in a worse position than human beings. In some cases, however, people treat their pets like members of their families, or perhaps better. In the United States and Europe, there are special shops that sell clothing and food for cats and dogs.In many countries of the world, there is special food for pets. It is common for big markets in many places to sell cat food and dog food. However, in a small town in France, there is a special restaurant for dogs. Dogs are the only customers. There is seating for twenty of them. The dogs choose from a variety of dishes on the menu.Of course, in most parts of the world, pets don't live in such wealth and comfort. People treat their pets in a more practical way. People own cats and dogs because they keep away mice and other unwanted animals. Owners have some loving feelings for their pets, but they do not see them as equal to family members. In most places in the world, there isn't any special clothing or fine food for animals. There aren't any special restaurants for dogs.Pets around the world live in a great variety of ways, just as people do.According to the passage, in most countries __________.a. animals are in a worse position than human beingsb. people treat their pets like members of their familiesc. there are special shops that sell clothing for dogs and catsd. pets such as dogs and cats are very popularAccording to the passage, there are _________.a. many owners of dogs and cats in the United States and Europeb. restaurants for dogs in every city in Francec. no dogs or cats that wear clothingd. some people who treat their pets far better than they treat their childrenFor many people, pets may have a more practical function because __________.a. pets are often useful companions for old peopleb. cats and dogs can be used to keep away micec. pets can sometimes be sold to make moneyd. some pets may show loving feelings for their ownersIn your opinion, which of the following sentences is probably true?a. It is stupid to have special food and clothing for animalsPassage twoLast week I visited one of my old neighborhoods in Washington D.C. I had not been there for twenty years and as I walked along the street, my mind was flooded by memories of the past. I saw the old apartment building where I had lived and the playground where I had played. As I viewed these once familiar surroundings, images of myself as a child there came to mind. However, what I saw and what I remembered were not the same. I sadly realized that the best memories are those left untouched. My old apartment building, as I remember, was bright and alive. It was more than just a place to live. It was a movie house, a space station, or whatever my young mind could imagine. I would steal away with my friends and play in the basement. This was always exciting because it was so cool and dark, and there were so many things there to hide among. There was a small river in the back of the building. We should go there to lie in the shade of trees and enjoy ourselves. However, what I saw was completely different. The apartment building was now in disrepair. What was once more than a place to live looked hardly worth living in. The windows were all broken. The once clean walls were covered with dirty marks. The river was hardly recognizable. The water was polluted and the trees and flowers were all dead. The once sweet smelling river now smelled terrible. It was really heartbreaking to see all this.I do not regret having seen my old neighborhood. However, I do not think my innocent childhood memories can ever be the same. I suppose it is true when they say. “You can never go home again.”In the first two paragraphs of the passage the writer tries to tell us that__________.a.he had lived in Washington D.C. for twenty years.b.he was very imaginative when he was a child.c.he had had fond memories of his old neighborhood.d.he had come from a very poor neighborhood. The writer, as a child, was very fond of playing in the basement because __________.a.it was bright and aliveb.it contained a movie house and a space stationc.it was ideal for playing hide-and-seekd.it was surrounded by trees and flowersHow did the writer feel when he visited his old neighborhood in Washington D.C. ?a. The gay community was very much in sight and vocal(呼声高的) and successfully got support for its cause. Now we are rapidly approaching the point where about one half of all AIDS cases in the world are women. But no one is taking this dangerously high level of infection among women seriously enough.Women usually have a worse time dealing with HIV than men do. In most cases, the woman is taking care of children as well as her sick partner. She may not even have time to take care of herself. The HIV-positive woman ends up shouldering the family as well as her own personal problems. Men, however, are usually the ones who have insurance, income and access to doctors. They get care. Women often do not.The discrimination against HIV-positive women is simply terrible. They are likely to be more inactive than men in the home and workplace because too many people think that women are the cause of the disease. This is not at all true. They get it from men. They don't just simply have HIV. Of course, there's social discrimination against all people with HIV. People with HIV, then, are scared that other people will know they are HIV-positive and that they will, therefore, be discriminated against. For example, it's very difficult for people with HIV to travel. They are not allowed to enter many countries, including the United States, China and Russia. The biggest difficulty an HIV-positive woman must face is isolation. Once a woman knows she's HIV-positive, she lives in fear that other people will find out. She's so frightened, she will go into hiding, into an isolated place by herself. It's not at all uncommon to meet a woman who hasbeen HIV-positive for nearly 10 years and has never told anyone, except her doctor. And the resulting stress is enough to make her sick. But HIV-positive women who get support, who can discuss their trouble and then do something about it—whether that means taking better care of themselves or going to the United Nations to struggle for their rights—are likely to live longer. Active women don't die out of shame in a comer. This happens to too many HIV-positive women.Women with HIV were ignored for a long time because_______.a. the public focused on men who were HIV positiveb. they didn't often ask people to support their causec. they didn't become infected with HIV very oftend. the public thought women could take care of themselvesWhy do women have more trouble with HIV than men do?a. Women are infected more often than men.b. Women are not as vocal as men with HIV are.c. Women with AIDS cannot enter some countries.d. Women do not take care of themselves as well. Why are women with HIV discriminated against?a. People think they are the cause of the disease.b. Men don't like women who are HIV positive.c. They are much weaker than men with HIV.d. They are not active at home and don't work. The greatest difficulty that HIV-positive women face is __________.a. keeping to themselvesb. pain of the diseasec. unemploymentd. lack of moneyWhat should a woman with AIDS keep from doing?a. Getting support from others with AIDS.b. Making other people frightened of them.c. Struggling for their rights as people with AIDS.d. Discussing their trouble with their doctors only.Passage FourOnce upon a time there was a wise man that used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of writing on the beach before he began his work. One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance on the beach. So he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean. As he got closer he called out, “Good morning! What are you doing?”The young man paused, looking up and replied, “Throwing starfish (海星) in the ocean.”“I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”“The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die.”“But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!”The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked another starfish and threw it into the ocean, past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.” There is something very special in each and every one of us.All of us have a natural ability to make a difference. The virus can be passed during sex with an infected partner or by sharing instruments used to take intravenous (静脉注射的) drugs. It also can be passed in blood or fluids made from blood or from a pregnant (怀孕的) woman with AIDS to her developing baby. Many stories about the spread of AIDS are false. You cannot get AIDS by working or attending school with someone who has the disease. You cannot get it by drinking glasses or other objects used by such persons. Officials say no one has caught AIDS by living with, caring for or touching an AIDS patient. There are several warning signs of being infected with AIDS. They include always feeling tired, unexplained (无法解释的) weight loss and uncontrolled expulsion (排泄) of body wastes.Other warning signs are the appearance of white areas on the mouth, dark red areas of skin that do not go away and a higher than normal body temperature. However, just because you have one or more of these conditions does not mean you have AIDS. Always go to a doctor or health center for a complete examination. The doctor may give you an AIDS blood test. When a virus enters the body, the body's defenses against disease produce antibodies (抗体) to fight the virus. The test shows if the body has produced antibodies to the AIDS virus. Results of the test are known after a few hours. The test tells only if your body has produced AIDS antibodies. It cannot tell if you have AIDS or if you will ever get the disease. In December (1988), the United States government approved (批准) a simpler and faster AIDS blood test. The early trains were impractical curiosities, and for a long time the railroad companies met with troublesome mechanical problems. The most serious ones were the construction of rails able to bear the load, and the development of a safe, effective stopping system. Once these were solved, the railroad was established as the best means ofland transportation.By 1860 there were thousands of miles of railroads crossing the eastern mountain ranges and reaching westward to the Mississippi. There were also regional southern and western lines. The high point in railroad building came with the constructionof the first transcontinental, system. In 1862 Congress authorized two western railroad companies to build lines from Nebraska westward andfrom California eastward to a meeting point, so as to complete a transcontinental crossing linking the Atlantic seaboard with the Pacific. The Government helped the railroads generously with money andland.Actural work on this project began four years later. The Central Pacific Company, starting from California, used Chinese labor, while the Union Pacific employed crews of Irish labourers. The two groups workedat remarkable speed, each trying to cover a greater distance than the other. In 1869 they met at a place called Promontory in what is now the state of Utah. Many visitors came there for the great occasion. There were joyous celebrations all over the country, with parades and the ringingof church bells to honor the great achievement. The railroad was very important in encouraging Westward Movement. It also helped build up industry and farming by moving raw materials and by distributing products rapidly to distant markets. In linking townsand people to one another it helped unify the United States.1.The major problems with America's railroad system in the mid19th century lay in _______.A. lack of financial support for developmentB. poor quality rails and unreliable stopping systemsC. limited railroad linesD. lack of a transcontinental railroad答案B.

Stress may be defined as the response of the body to any demand. Whenever people experience something pleasant or unpleasant, we say they are under stress. We call the pleasant kind “eustress”, the unpleasant kind “distress”.People sometimes compare our lives with that of the caveman who didn’t have to worry about the stock market or the atomic bomb. They forget that the caveman worried about being eaten by a bear or about dying of hunger—things that few people worry about today. It’s not that people suffer more stress today; it’s just that they think they do.It is inconceivable that anyone should have no stress at all. Most people who are ambitious and want to accomplish something live on stress. They need it. But excessive stress is by all means harmful. Worse, chronic exposure to stress over a long time may cause more serious diseases and may actually shorten your life. The most frequent causes of distress in man are psychological—lack of adaptability, not having a code of behavior. So the secret of coping with stress is not to avoid it, but to do what you like to do and what you are made to do, at your own rate. For most people, it is really a matter of learning how to behave in various situations. The most important thing is to have a code of life, to know how to live.1.The modern man is suffering .A.more stress than the cavemanB.less stress than cavemanC.different stress from the cavemanD.same stress as the caveman2.Which of the following is NOT an example that causes distress?cking in adaptability and code of life.B.Killing a bear in hunting.C.The failure to pass final examinations.D.Having an economic problem.3.According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?A.Everyone will suffer certain kinds of stress in his life.B.Chronic exposure to stress may shorten your life.C.Excessive stress is especially harmful to health.D.Most people can learn to avoid stress.4.According to the passage, one should .A.try to avoid as much stress as possibleB.cope with stress in different waysC.learn to do things at his own rateD.have the response of the body to any demand参考答案1.[考点]推理判断题【精析】C根据第二段可知,人们将自己的生活与穴居人相比较,认为穴居人不用担心股票市场和原子弹。

A major incentive(动力) for college attendance is the belief that it will prepare you for a career. Chances are that the career you want, whether in nursing, counseling, law, or management, requires a college education. Even if the return of your education isn’t as great as it used to be, you would probably rather be a relatively poorly paid lawyer than a secretary or a construction worker; you would probably rather be a manager than a managee. In the sense that a degree is increasingly required for even middle-level jobs, your investment in a college education will still pay off.It can pay off in other ways too. It is a value judgement to say that a college education will make you a better person, but it is a value judgement that the vast majority of college graduates are willing to make survey after survey to demonstrate that people feel very positive about their college education, believing that it has made them better and more tolerant people.Whether it makes you a better person or not, a college education is likely to have a lasting effect on your knowledge and values. If you finish college, you will sit through 30 to 45 different courses. Even the least dedicated student is bound to learn something from these courses. In addition, students learn informally. Whether you go to college in you hometown or across the country, college will introduce you to a greater diversity of people than you’re likely to have experienced before. This diversity will challenge your mind and broaden your horizons. As a result of formal and informal learning, college graduates are more knowledgeable about the world around them, more tolerant and less prejudiced, more active in public and community affairs, and, more open to new ideas.1. It is apparent from the passage that people go to college mainly because they believe ___.A. a college education will provide them with a guarantee of success in lifeB. the economy of their country can’t absorb an army of untrained youngstersC. a college education will make them better qualified for a careerD. the investment in a college education can bring a higher economic return than before2. We can learn from the second paragraph that ___.A. college can hardly help people become better citizensB. most college graduates refuse to make any comment on their college educationC.a college education may not be the best thing for everyoneD. people consider their college education to be of great worth3. The word “dedicated”(Para. 3) could best be replaced by ___.A. hardworkingB. competentC. intelligentD. conservative4. According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?A. A college student can enrich his knowledge and broaden his mind through formal and informal learning.B. A college education is likely to be a required credential(文凭) for the career a person wants.C. A college student who doesn’t work hard can get nothing out of the courses he takes.D. A college education tends to have long-range effects on a person’s knowledge and values.5. This passage is primarily concerned with ___.A. the change of people’s attitude toward their college educationB. the benefits of a college educationC. the result of formal and informal learningD. the intercommunication among college students1.

Technology has been an encouragement of historical change. It acted as such a force in Eng- land beginning in the eighteenth century, and across the entire Western World in the nineteenth. Rapid advances were made in the use of scientific findings in the manufacture (制造) of goods, which has changed ideas about work. One of the first changes was that other forms of energy have taken the place of human power. Along with this came the increased use of machines to manufac- ture products in less time..People also developed machines that could produce the same parts for a product: each nail was exactly like every other nail, meaning that each nail could be changed for every other nail. This means that goods could be mass produced, though mass production required breaking production down into smaller and smaller tasks.Once this was done, workers no longer started on the product and labored to complete it. In- stead, they might work only one thousandth of it, other workers completing their own parts in cer- tain order. There is nothing strange about this manufacturing work by today' s standards. Highly skilled workers were unable to compare with the new production techniques, as mass production al- lowed goods of high standard to be produced in greater number than could ever be done by hand. But the skilled worker wasn' t the only loser, the common workers lost too. Similar changes forced farmers away. The increased mechanization(机械化) of agriculture freed masses of workers from ploughing the land and harvesting its crops. They had little choice but to stream toward the rapidly developing industrial centers. Increasingly, standards were set by machines. Workers no longer owned their own tools, their skill was no longer valued, and pride in their work was no longer pos- sible. Workers fed, looked after and repaired the machines that could work faster than humans at greatly reduced cost.26. In this passage, which of the following is NOT considered as a change caused by the use of scientific findings in the production of goods?A. Other forms of energy have taken the place of human power.B. The increased exploitation of workers in the 19th century.C. The increased use of machines to make products in less time.D. The use of machines producing parts of the same standard.27. The underlined word "this" in the fLrSt paragraph refers toA. the use of scientific findingsB. the practice of producing the same parts for a productC. the human power being replaced by other forms of energyD. the technology becoming the encouragement of historical change28. The underlined word "this" in the second paragraph refers to the change thatA. each nail could be taken the place of by every other nailB. each nail was exactly like every other nailC. producing tasks became smaller and smallerD. goods could be mass produced29. According to the writer, highly skilled workersA. completely disappeared with the coming of the factory systemB. were dismissed by the bossC. were unable to produce goods of high standardD. were unable to produce fine goods at that same speed as machines30. According to the passage, what did the farmers have to do with the coming of mechanization of agriculture?A. Many of them had to leave their farmland for industrial centers.B. They stuck to their farm work.C. They refused to use machines.D. They did their best to learn how to use the machines.

Passage 1Mistakes are the things that nobody wants, but we still make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. Some are about work or jobs. But most mistakes are about people."Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen? When I got that great job, did Jim really feel good about it as a friend? Or did he envy my luck? And why didn't Andy pick up that I was friendly just because 1 had a car?" When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad. But when we look back, it's too late.why do we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. We need to listen and think for some time. And if we don't really listen we miss the feeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you, "You're a lucky dog" that's being friendly. But "lucky dog"? There's a bit of envy in those words. Maybe he doesn't see it himself. But bringing in the "dog" bit puts you down a little, what he may be saying is that he doesn't think you deserve your luck."Just think of all the things you have to be thankful for" is another noise that says one thing and means another. It could mean that the speaker is trying to get you to see your problem as part of your life as a whole. But is he? Wrapped up in this phrase is the thought that your problem isn't important. It's telling you to think of all the starving people in the world when you haven't got a date for Saturday night. How can you'tell the real meaning behind someone's words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says agree with the tone of voice? His posture? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you may save another mistake.26. This passage is mainly aboutA. how to interpret what people sayB. what to do when you listen to others talkingC. how to avoid mistakes when you communicate with peopleD. why we go wrong with people sometimes27. According to the author, the reason why we go wrong about our friends is that .A. we fail to listen carefully when they talkB. people tend to be annoyed when we check what they sayC. people usually state one thing but means anotherD. we tend to doubt what our friends say28. In the sentence "Maybe he doesn't see it himself" in the second paragraph, the pronoun"it" refers to .A. being friendlyB. a bit of envyC. lucky dogD. your luck29. When we listen to a person talking, the most important thing for us to do is .A. notice the way the person is talkingB. take a good look at the person talkingC. mind his tone, his posture and the look in his eyesD. examine the real meaning of what he says based on his manner, his tone and his posture30. The author most probably is a .A. teacherB. philosopherC. psychologistD. doctorPassage 2SMS (Short Message Service) gradually becomes the main service for cell phone users for its great charming. In addition, the development of mobile communications technology and service has created favorable condition for SMS. For example, MMS, multi-media messaging service, is a new type of message service on the basis of SMS. It allows transmission of multi-media messages between cell phone and computer, as well as between cell phones. Communication with SMS is quite convenient. You can write a message after carefully thinking what you want to say with many words without worrying about money. Actually, SMS enjoys the absolute majority utilization among mobile service. In China, the number of short message transmitted is 2,200 billion in 2003.People, however, feel angry and anxious sometimes while enjoying SMS. More and more rubbish short messages that contain such content as erotic, gambling, or advertising are sent to cell phone users, which seriously violated the user's privacy. Because the sender of these rubbish short messages do not take into ——account whether people need them or not, and do not get the permission from users to transmit these rubbish short messages to them.As we know, everyone has the right to communication freely with other people, and the right to refuse communication with people they don't like to. But these rights were not guaranteed in SMS. Users do not receive rubbish short messages on a voluntary basis. If you fell angry and disgusted with some rubbish message to your cell phone, and do not want to see it again, that means such message is in contradiction with your wish, and violates your privacy. MMS also promote the transmission of unhealthy information on the Internet from computer to cell phone, which must extend the scope and influence of rubbish short message. The rapid development of mobile communications may suffer a lot if there is no change in the way of transmitting SMS. More and more users of cell phone are disturbed by rubbish short messages, and their privacy is violated by mobile communications service, which is also not a benefit for the development of mobile communications service.31. has created a good condition for SMS.A. Multi-media messaging serviceB. Mobile communications technologyC. Mobile communications serviceD. Mobile communications technology and service32. By MMS, short messages can be transmitted except between .A. cell phonesB. computersC. cell phone and computerD. mobile phone and computer33. People sometimes don't enjoy SMS because .A. SMS also sends rubbish short messagesB. SMS violates their privacyC.SMS does not consider whether people need it or notD. SMS doesn't get people's permission to send them messages34. MMS may violate people's privacy because .A. SIMS doesn't take measures to forbidden itB.SMS doesn't guarantee people's privacyC. it makes rubbish short messages transmission easierD. it extends the scope and influence of rubbish short message35. From the text we know that .A. people should refuse rubbish short messagesB. SMS should think of a way to get rid of rubbish short messagesC. MMS should not allow people to send messages from the Internet to cell phonesD. SMS benefits from rubbish short messagesPassage

[应用举例]Scientists are racing to build the world’s first thinking robot. This is not science fiction:some say they will have made it by the year 2020. Carol Packer reports.Machines that walk, speak and feel are no longer science fiction.Kismet is the name of an android(机器人)which scientists have built at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT). (31)Kismet is different from the traditional robot because it Can show human emotions. Its eyes, ears and lips move to show when it feels happy, sad or bored.Kismet is one of the first of a new generation of androids——robots that look like human beings——which Can imitate human feelings.(32) Cog,another android invented by the MIT, imitates the action of a mother. However, scientists admit that So far Cog has the mental ability of a two—year—old.(33)The optimists(乐观主义者)say that by the year 2020 we will have created humanoids(机器人)with brains similar to those of all adult human being. These robots will be designed to look like people to make them more attractive and easier to sell to the public. What kind of jobs will they do? (34)In the future, robots like Robonaut,a humanoid invented by NASA,will be doing dangerous jobs, like repairing space stations. They will also be doing more and mom of the household work for us In Japan, scientists are designing androids that will entertain us by dancing and playing the piano. Some people worry about what the future holds:will robots become monsters(怪物)?Will people themselves become increasingly like robots? Experts predict that more and more people will be wearing micro—computers, connected to the Internet,in the future.People will have micro—chips in various parts of their body, which will connect them to a wide variety of gadgets (小装置).Perhaps we should not exaggerate(夸大)the importance of technology, but one wonders whether,in years to come,we will still be falling in love, and whether we will still feel pain.Who knows?31. Kismet is different from traditional robots becauseA. it thinks for itselfB. It is not like science fictionC. it can look after two—year-old.D. it seems to have human feelings.

32. What makes Cog special?A. It looks like a mother.B. It behaves like a child.C. It can imitate the behavior of a mother.D. It has a huge brain.

33. In about 15 years’ time from now, robotsA. will become space designers.B. will look like monsters.C. will behave like animals.D. will think like humans.

D. will think like humans.和文章中的句子with brains similar to those of all adult human being.

34. In the future robots will alsoA. explore space.B. entertain people.C. move much faster.D. do all of the housework.

35. What is the writer’s attitude to robots in the future?A. Critical (批评的)B. Hostile (敌意的)C. Objective(客观的)D.

A Good Couple Supports Each OtherRodney Mace, 35, is married with two young children, and is a part-time teacher of architectural history, “I am constantly surprised by other people’s surprise, when they come to the house and see me cleaning a floor or hanging out the washing. Their eyes open wide at the sight of it! Much of the comment comes from men. But I am even more surprised a t the number of women who comment too.”His wife Jane, an Oxford graduate in modern languages, has a demanding full-time job. She is director of the Cambridge House literacy scheme for adults in South London. Her working week involves several evenings and Saturdays, and at these times her husband is in sole charge of home and family. Apart from this, they share household jobs and employ a child-minder for the afternoons. This enables him to teach two days a week and to do what he considers his principal work: writing. He has written several books and spends much of his time in British Museum Reading Room, cycling there from his home in Brixton.People ask the Maces if they think their children miss them. One can argue that satisfied parents generally have satisfied children, but in any case the Maces are careful to reserve time and energy to play with their children. “And they have now developed relationships with other adults and children.”Previously, Rodney Mace worked full-time and Jane only part-ti me. Then 18 months ago, the director of the literacy scheme left. “It seems to me that Jane was very well suited to do this job. She was very doubtful about it. But I urged her to apply. She did and she got it.” Jane Mace confirms that she needed this encouragement, as so many women initially do,Did his male ego(自我,自己)suffer from the change-over? Nothing like that occurred.
