ECON 4140_AnswersMid-Term 2March 18, 20131.5 hoursDo all questions.1.Define in two - three sentences (using charts/formulas as needed) to clarify the followingterms. (25 marks) (Answers discussed in class)a. Sunk costs vs. fixed costsb.Willingness to payc.Coase theoremd.Non-marketed goodpensating variation and equivalent variation2.How closely do government expenditures measure opportunity cost for each of thefollowing program inputs? Please explain your answer. (25 marks)a.Time of jurors in a criminal justice program that requires more trials. Most jurisdictions pay jurors a small per diem and reimburse them for commuting and meal expenses. For most jurors, these payments fall short of the opportunity costs of their time. For employed workers, a more reasonable estimate of the opportunity cost of their time would be their wage rates. Note that, from the social perspective, it makes no difference whether or not workers continue to receive their wages while on jury duty. Society is forgoing their labor, which the market values at their wage rates. For those not employed, the opportunity cost is the value they place on their forgone leisure.nd to be used for a nuclear waste storage facility, which is owned by thegovernment and located on a military base.Assume that the government does not charge itself for the use of land that it owns. As long as the land could be used for something other than a nuclear waste facility, the government's accounting would underestimate the opportunity cost of the land. If the land could be sold to private developers, for example, then its market price would be a better reflection of its opportunity cost. If the fact that the land is on a military base precludes its sale to private developers, then the opportunity cost of the land would depend on the other uses to which it could be put by the government.bor for a reforestation program in a small rural community with highunemployment.Government expenditures on wages would overestimate the opportunity cost if the workers would have otherwise been unemployed. The opportunity cost of the workers is the value they place on the leisure time that they are giving up.bor of current government employees who are required to administer a newprogram. As the employees are already on the government payroll, the diversion of their time to the program would not involve additional expenditures. The opportunity cost of their time depends on how they would have been using it in the absence of the program. If the government efficiently used labor, then the opportunity cost of their time would be measured by their wage rates. If the government inefficiently used labor, so that the value of output given up per hour diverted is less than their wage rate, then the opportunity cost would be less than the wage rate.e.Concrete that was previously poured as part of a bridge foundation.Once it is in place, the concrete has zero opportunity cost if it cannot be salvaged and reused, regardless of whether or not the government has yet paid the bill for it. This is the classic case of a "sunk cost." Indeed, imagine that if the bridge project were to be cancelled. Then, for safety reasons, the concrete would have to be removed, requiring the use labor and equipment. Consequently, with respect to the bridge project, the opportunity cost of the concrete is negative -- not having to remove it is a benefit of continuing the project!3. A government data processing center has been plagued in recent years by complaintsfrom employees of back pain. Consultants have estimated that upgrading office furniture at a net cost of $425,000 would reduce the incidence and severity of back injuries, allowing the center to avoid medical care that currently costs $68,000 each year. Theyestimate that the new furniture would also provide yearly benefits of avoided losses inwork time and employee comfort worth $18,000. The furniture would have a useful lifeof five years, after which it would have a positive salvage value equal to 10 percent of itsinitial net cost. The consultants made their estimates of avoided costs assuming that theywould be treated as occurring at the beginning of each year.In its investment decisions, the center uses a nominal discount rate of 9.5 percent and anassumed general inflation rate of 3 percent. It expects the inflation rate for medical carewill run between 3 percent and 5 percent but is uncertain as to the exact rate. In otherwords, it is uncertain as to whether the cost of medical care will inflate at the same rate as other prices or rise 2 percent faster. Should the center purchase the new furniture? (Hint– you will need to incorporate the inflation projection into the model) (25 marks) Working in real dollars, the first task is to convert the nominal discount rate to a real discount rate:d = (.095-.03)/(1+.03)= .063A major benefit is avoided medical care costs. If it is assumed that the price of medical care inflates at the same rate as the general price level, then all the costs and benefits are in real dollars and the present value can be calculated as:NPV = (-$425,000 + $68,000 + $18,000)+ ($68,000 + $18,000)/(1+.063)1+ ($68,000 + $18,000)/(1+.063)2+ ($68,000 + $18,000)/(1+.063)3+ ($68,000 + $18,000)/(1+.063)4+ ($42,500)/(1+.063)5= -$339,000 + $80,903 + $76,108 + $71,598 + $67,354 + $31,313= -$11,724.If, instead, it is assumed that the price of medical care inflates 2 percent faster than the general price level, then the net benefits are calculated as follows:NPV = (-$425,000 + $68,000 + $18,000)+ ($69,360 + $18,000)/(1+.063)1+ ($70,747 + $18,000)/(1+.063)2+ ($72,162 + $18,000)/(1+.063)3+ ($73,605 + $18,000)/(1+.063)4+ ($42,500)/(1+.063)5= -$339,000 + $82,183 + $78,539 + $75,063 + $71,744 + $31,313= -$158In this case, the purchase would not pass the net benefits test if it were assumed that medical care priceswill rise at the general rate of inflation, or if it were assumed medical care prices will rise 2 percent faster than the general rate of inflation. Though medical care prices have appeared to rise substantially faster than other prices in recent years in the United States, some of the faster increase may result because medical care price indexes do not take full account of improvements in the quality of care.If the consultants assumed instead that the avoided costs will occur at the end of each year instead of at the beginning of each*/ year, the NPV would be lower. In fact, with medical care prices rising 2 percent faster than general inflation, the NPV would be:NPV = -$425,000+ ($69,360 + $18,000)/(1+.063)1+ ($70,747 + $18,000)/(1+.063)2+ ($72,162 + $18,000)/(1+.063)3+ ($73,605 + $18,000)/(1+.063)4+ ($75,077 + $18,000 + $42,500)/(1+.063)5= -$425,000 + $82,183 + $78,539 + $75,063 + $71,744 + $99,889= -$17,582.4. A highway department is considering building a temporary bridge to cut travel timeduring the three years it will take to build a permanent bridge. The temporary bridge canbe put up in a few weeks at a cost of $740,000. At the end of three years, it would beremoved and the steel would be sold for scrap. The real net cost of this would be $81,000.Based on estimated time savings and wage rates, fuel savings, and reductions in risks ofaccidents, department analysts predict that the benefits in real dollars would be $275,000during the first year, $295,000 during the second year, and $315,000 during the third year.Departmental regulations require use of a real discount rate of 5 percent.a.Calculate the present value of net benefits assuming that the benefits are realizedat the end of each of the three years.b.Calculate the present value of net benefits assuming that the benefits are realizedat the beginning of each of the three years.c.Calculate the present value of net benefits assuming that the benefits are realizedin the middle of each of the three years.d.Calculate the present value of net benefits assuming that half of each year’sbenefits are realized at the beginning of the year and the other half at the end ofthe year.e.Does the temporary bridge pass the net benefits test? (25 marks)Begin by calculating the present value of the costs, which are realized at the beginning of year 1 and at the end of year 3:PV(cost) = $740,000+$81,000/(1+.05)3= $740,000+$69,971= $809,9711.a. Benefits accrue at the end of year:PV(ben) = $275,000/(1+.05)1+$295,000/(1+.05)2+$315,000/(1+.05)3= $261,905 + $267,574 + $272,109= $801,588NPV = $801,588-$809,971 = -$8,3831.b. Benefits accrue at the beginning of year:PV(ben) = $275,000+$295,000/(1+.05)1+$315,000/(1+.05)2= $275,000 + $280,952 + $285,714=$841,666NPV = $841,666-$809,971 = $31,6951.c. Benefits accrue at mid-year:PV(ben) = $275,000/(1+.05).5+$295,000/(1+.05)1.5+$315,000/(1+.05)2.5= $268,373 + $274,181 + $278,829= $821,383NPV = $821,383-$809,971= $11,4121.d. Benefits split equally between beginning and end of year:PV(ben) = ($801,588 + $841,666)/2 = $821,627NPV = $821,627-$809,971 = $11,656.Alternatively, average the answers to parts a and b: ($-8,383 + $31,695)/2 = $11,656.1.e. The sign of the present value of net benefits depends on when the benefits are assumed to accrue. In this case, they accrue as various savings throughout the year, so either method (c) or (d) is most appropriate, and the temporary bridge passes the net benefits test.Note that even more accurate methods of discounting would involve estimating the benefits on a monthly, weekly, or even daily basis. Such refinement in the specification of the timing of benefits, however, would usually amount to false precision, given uncertainties in their measurement and the appropriate social discount rate.。

Mid-term Exam(Version A)Advanced MacroeconomicsAnswer Key(a)Why the accumulation of physical capital cannot account for either growth di¤erence or cross-country income di¤erence? If returns of capital are a rough guide to its contributions to output, then variations in the accumulation of physical capital do not account for a signi…cant part of either di¤erences. For example,to account for a a factor of10in output per worker,we need a factor of1000in capital per worker. There is no evidence of such di¤erences in capital stocks.Or Required di¤erence in capital imply enormous di¤erence in the rate of return on capital, for example,a factor of 100.(b)Why in the Ramsey model, the adjustment to shock is more rapid than in the Solow model?Besides the kind of adjustment happen in the Solow model, that is,the di¤erence of marginal product and break-even investment, the change of saving rate also help the adjustment process. Here the saving rate is greater than s when k is less than k and less than s when k is greater than k .This is becauseinterest rate is high when k is less than k and it is low when k is greater than k .(c)Explain why in the Diamond(OLG)Mode, there is possibility of dynamic ine¢ciency.Or how a planner is able to improve e¢ciency in some case.Answer1If the marginal product of capital is less than n,or k GR<k ,the planner can take1unit of labor income from each young person and transfer it to the old. This increases the consumption of each old person by1+n units. The planner then asks the next generation of young to do the same thing in the following period.....continuing.It is more e¢cient than saving.Ine¢ciency stems from the intertemporal structure of the economy,or the in…nity of generations.Answer2In BGP,if f0(k )<f0(k GR),then,in some period t0,a planner can allocate more resources to consumption and fewer to saving than usual,so that capital per worker the next period is k GR and thereafter also k GR<k .In period t0, f(k )+(k k GR) nk GR>f(k GR) nk GR,so more resource for consumption, In each subsequent period,f(k GR) nk GR>f(k ) nk ,we also have more consumption, which make every generation better o¤.(d)Why we cannot use technology to explain cross-country income di¤er-ences?Why poor countries do not have access to the same technology? The lags in the di¤usion of knowledge from rich to poor countries that are needed to account for observed di¤erences in incomes are extremely long–on the order of a century or more.Second, technology is nonrival. If the relevant knowledge is publicly available, poor countries can become rich by having their workers or managers read the appropriate literature. If the relevant knowledge is private,1poor countries can become rich by inviting foreign…rms to open factories in poor countries. There are numerous examples of poor regions or countries, where foreign investors can establish plants and use their know-how with a high degree of con…dence:that the political environment will be relatively stable. We do not see incomes in those areas jumping to the levels of industrialized countries.(e)Why human capital may help explain cross-country income di¤erences? For example, after introducing human capital, output per worker is AG(E)y, where G(E)is human capital, which is a function of education. Then,to account for a a factor of10in output per worker,we only need a factor of about10in human capital per worker.Human capital is not like technolgoy, rich countries ’human capital is not easy to transfer to poor countries.2。

Joel is a fisherman, and he was going on a short fishing trip. “I’ll see you in a week,” he said. But Joel didn’t see his wife in a week. He didn’t see his wife for a long, long time.Joel left his house and went to the harbor in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. He got on a fishing boat. Four other fishermen were on the boat, too. The boat left the harbor and the men began to fish. The first few hours on the ocean were not unusual. Then there was a terrible storm. The storm lasted for 22 days. When the storm finally stopped, the men checked their boat. Their fishing nets were gone. The engine and the radio didn’t work. There was no food, and there was no fresh water. For the next few hours, the men talked and planned. “How can we survive on the ocean?” they asked oneanother. Without their nets, the men couldn’t fish. But they could reach out of the boat and catch big turtles. The men didn’t want to eat raw turtle meat, so they needed a fire for cooking. They tore down the boat’s wood cabin and made a fire with the wood. They needed protection from the sun and rain, so they built a simple roof. The roof held rainwater, too. The men could drink rainwater from the roof. For the next five months the men ate turtles---when they caught them. They drank rainwater---when it rained. Often there was no food and no water, and the men were hungry and thirsty. Sometimes they thought, “We are going to die soon.”Joel wrote a letter to his wife. “My dear Edith,” Joel wrote. “If I die, I hope someone will send you this letter. Then you will know how I died. I had the best in life---a great woman and beautiful children. I love you, Edith. I love you.”In June it didn’t rain for a long time, and the men ran out of water. They were thin and weak, and they thought, “We are going to die now.” They put on their best clothes, lay down, and closed their eyes. After a while it began to rain. The men stood up and licked the water from the roof. Then all five men began to cry. Ten days later, on June 15, a Japanese fishing boat found the men. They were 4,000 miles from Costa Rica.Nobody sent Joel’s letter to his wife. He showed it to his wife himself. Joel will always keep the letter. The letter, he says, helps him remember. “On the ocean I realized that I love my wife and children very, very much. My family is everything to me. Well, there are many reasons. One of them is tliat British people are now having their children at a much older age tliaii previously, meaning they have fewer years in which they can have children. Most young people today want a well-paid job, so tliey often go to university after high school after years of study at university, they then need a few years of work experience before they can get the job tliey want. So it's not imtil they are about 30 years old that they can start to think about settling down and having children.Another reason is that it is relatively expensive to bring up a child in the UK. Usually both parents need to work to pay for their home and living expenses. Tliey need to pay someone to look after tlieir child durmg the day, which is expensive. In addition, problems in the global economy often affect British families. For example, when times are tough and there is an economic downturn, it becomes difficult to find a job or keep the existing one. This kind of uncertainty discourages people &om having larger families. So what is Britaui domg to try and save British families? First of all. the government is trying to make it cheaper to ha\・e cliildreii. For example, there ha\・e been mcreases ill money families can gam from the state each montli. Also, there is an mcreasmg amoirnt of money for nursery schools, so that parents don't need to pay so much for childcare. In addition, there are now laws allowing parents to take more time off work so that they can look after their children themselves rather than having to pay others to do it.V TranslationDii ections: Translate die following sentences mto English, using the words given in die brackets.1.前天,许多物理学家出席了颁奖典礼。

ECON4140 (2013) Mid-Term 1 - Answers1.Short definitions (see text)2.Imagine that you live in a city that currently does not require bicycle riders to wearhelmets. Furthermore, imagine that you enjoy riding your bicycle without wearing ahelmet.a.From your perspective, what are the major costs and benefits of a proposed cityordinance that would require all bicycle riders to wear helmetsb. What are the categories of costs and benefits from society’s perspective?c.Repeat this analysis with an adjustment that requires only children under 12 to wear helmets.(Do not forget enforcement costs) (25 marks)a.For individual riders the important costs are: the purchase price of a helmet, thereduced pleasure of riding your bicycle while wearing a helmet, diminishedappearance when you take the helmet off (bad hair), the inconvenience of keepingthe helmet available and maybe for some increased sense of safety (leading toincreased risk taking due to moral hazard). The most significant categories ofbenefits are probably: reduced risk of serious head injury (morbidity) and reducedrisk of death (mortality).b.These are:∙program enforcement (a cost)∙reduced health care costs (a benefit), although this may not be as high as one might expect if bicyclists ride more aggressively because they feel safer (this iscalled off-setting behaviour or moral hazard)∙increased pollution, due to cyclists switching to cars(a cost) – a likely minor issuec. The analysis is essentially no different, just that enforcement costs may fall if thislimit is widely accepted and it becomes a norm.Note: Changes in the sales of helmets or bikes occurs in the secondary market and arenot counted in the primary market.3. A town’s recreation department is trying to decide how to use a piece of land. Oneoption is to put up basketball courts with an expected life of eight years. Another is toinstall a swimming pool with an expected life of 24 years. The basketball courts wouldcost $180,000 to construct and yield net benefits of $40,000 at the end of each of theeight years. The swimming pool would cost $2.25 million to construct and yield netbenefits of $170,000 at the end of each of the 24 years. Each project is assumed to have zero salvage value at the end of its life. Using a real discount rate of 4 percent, whichproject offers larger net benefits? As only one of these projects can be built on the site, they are mutually exclusive. The comparison is complicated because the swimming pool has an expected life threetimes longer than the basketball courts. Imagine we rebuild the basketball courts atthe end of year 8 and year 16.Solution Approach 1Consider first the NPV of each project separately:NPV(one basketball court project)310,89$)04.01(000,40000,180$81=++-=∑=i iNPV(one swimming pool project)If we choose on the basis of this comparison, then the swimming pool has a larger present value of net benefits. A proper comparison, however, would be between one swimming pool and three successive basketball court projects so that the site is used in each case for the same length of time.NPV(three successive basketball court projects)= $89,310 + $89,310/(1+.04)8 + $89,310/(1+.04)16 (see how the NPV at year 8 is then “rediscounted at year 8 (actually year 16) and year 16 (actually year 24) = $89,310 + $65,258 + $47,683= $202,251Thus, three successive basketball court projects offer a lower present value of net benefits than the swimming pool project. One should build the pool.Solution Approach 2An alternative approach for comparing these projects of different lengths is to divide each project’s NPV by its appropriate annuity factor to find its equivalent annual net benefits, an approach called "amortization." The appropriate annuity factor in each case can be obtained by using the formula for the present value of an annuityThe 8-year annuity factor = [1-(1+.04)-8]/(.04) = 6.7327Annualized NB for the basketball court = ($89,310)/6.7327 = $13,265The 24-year annuity factor = [1-(1+.04)-24]/(.04) = 15.247Annualized NB for the swimming pool = ($341,984)/(15.247) = $22,430The basket ball court project offers net benefits equivalent to an annuity paying $13,265 each year over its life. The swimming pool offers net benefits equivalent to 984,341$)04.01(000,170000,250,2$241=++-=∑=i ian annuity paying $22,430 each year over its life. Choose the pool.4.The environmental protection agency of a county would like to preserve a piece of landas a wilderness area. The current owner has offered to lease the land to the county for20 years in return for a lump-sum payment of $1.1 million, which would be paid at thebeginning of the 20-year period. The agency has estimated that the land would generate $110,000 per year in benefits to hunters, bird watchers, and hikers. Assume that the lease price represents the social opportunity cost of the land and that the appropriate real discount rate is 5 percent.a.Assuming that the yearly benefits, which are measured in real dollars, accrue atthe end of each of the 20 years, calculate the net benefits of leasing the land.b.Some analysts in the agency argue that the annual real benefits are likely to growat a rate of 2 percent per year due to increasing population and county income.Recalculate the net benefits assuming that they are correct.a.The present value of the real yearly benefits is most easily calculated using theformula for the present value of an annuity (you can also do this the long way)PV(benefits) = ($110,000)[1-(1+.05)-20]/(.05)= $1,370,843NPV = $1,370,843 - $1,100,000= $270,843b.In this case we can use the present value of an annuity with a growth rate in benefitsof 2 percent: (or do it the long way, manually calculating annual increases in netbenefit)First, calculate (.05-.02)/(1+.02) = .0294PV(benefits) = [($110,000)/(1+.02)][1-(1+d g)-20]/d g] = $1,613,370NPV = $1,613,370-$1,100,000 = $513,370。

Graph the demand curve(remember to label the intercepts).b) The federal government is considering imposing some restrictions on the production of oranges because of environmental concerns. The current price is 4$ per pound, but after therestrictions it would increase to 5$ per pound. What is the consumer surplus before and after the restrictions? What is the loss in consumer surplus due to the restrictions? If a consumer advocacy group would try to bribe Beth to convince federal authorities that the restrictions should not be imposed, how much would they be willing to spend?c) Now suppose that Beth doesn’t know the demand function, but she observed that when the price of oranges grew from 4$ to 4.05$ per pound, the quantity of oranges demanded fell from 30 to 29 pounds. What is the elasticity of demand? Using this estimate, by how much would demand decrease if the government were to impose the quantity restrictions and raise the price from 4$ to 5$ per pound?4. Write an equation that relates the price paid by demanders to the price received by suppliers. Write an equation that states that supply equals demand.c.Solve these two equations for the two unknowns p s and p D. With the $10 tax, what is the the equilibrium price p D paid by consumers and the total number of lessons given?d.A senator from a mountainous state suggests that although ski lesson consumers are rich and deserve to be taxed, ski instructors are poor and deserve a subsidy. He proposes a $6 subsidy (补贴) on production while maintaining the $10 tax on consumption of ski lessons. I know a lot of you have been stressing about the upcoming Woodblock test for our English Unit A. I took the test last week and wanted to share the answer key to help you all prepare. Just remember, these are my answers, so double check with your teacher if you have any doubts!Listening Comprehension Section:B 2.C 3. A 4. B 5. AFor the listening, it's really important to pay close attention to the details and contexts. The first question was about the number of tickets the person wanted to buy. The speaker clearlysaid "two tickets" so B is correct. Number 3 asked about the destination and they mentioned going to London. Just be careful on questions like number 5 where they try to trick you with similar sounding words - "plain" and "plane" sound alike but have totally different meanings!Reading Comprehension Section:6. D7. B8. A9. C 10. B11. Spiders spin intricate/complex webs to catch prey.12. The compound microscope allowed scientists to view incredibly small objects in detail. The reading passage about scientific inventions was pretty straightforward. For questions 11 and 12, you had to come up with one-sentence summaries for two of the paragraphs. I tried to capture the main ideas using vocabulary from the passage itself.Grammar Section:13. has been learning14. will be celebrating15. was written16. have been waiting17. is being renovated18. D19. CThe grammar questions covered a lot of different tenses and verb forms we've learned. For 18 and 19, you had to identify the errors in the sentences. In 18, "laid" should be "lay" to agree with the subject "I". And in 19, there needed to be a possessive apostrophe after "teachers" - "teachers' lounge."Vocabulary Section:20. E (prosperous)21. A (whimsical)22. D (contemplate)23. B (distressing)24. G (flourished)I found the vocabulary questions pretty hard! You really have to understand the subtle s篇4My English Exam AnswersHi there! I'm going to share my answers to the English exam we just had from our Mudu Middle School textbook, unit A. I really hope I did well - English is one of my favorite subjects but some of the questions were pretty tricky! The first section was on vocabulary. We had to match words to their definitions. Let me see if I can remember how I answered:Diligent - working hard and doing your bestGenuine - real, authentic, not fakePerspective - a way of thinking about somethingCompromise - when each side gives a little to reach an agreementDispose - to get rid of somethingI'm pretty confident I got those right. Diligent and genuine were easy ones that we've learned before. Perspective was in one of the reading passages. Compromise took me a little thought but I remembered it from when we talked about resolving conflicts. Dispose was the trickiest but I figured it out from the context.Next was a section on grammar. We had to identify parts of speech and correct errors in sentences. Here's what I put:The young musician (subject) performed (verb) a beautiful song (direct object). The huge carnival (adjective) was loud (adjective) and exciting (adjective). She ran (verb) quickly (adverb) to catch (verb) the bus.Correct: My friends and I are going to the park.Correct: Between you and me, that was a silly mistake.I'm pretty sure I nailed the identifying parts of speech. And I remembered that "between you and I" is incorrect - it should be "between you and me." As for the "my friends and I" one, I double checked that too because it's a common mistake to say "me and my friends."Then we had a writing section where we had to write a short story using some of the vocabulary words from the unit, like diligent, genuine, and perspective. Here's what I wrote:Jack was a very diligent student. He would wake up early, eat a healthy breakfast, and then study hard all day. His teachers appreciated his genuine effort and positive attitude. One day, Jack was walking home from school when he saw two kids arguing loudly. One kid had taken the other's football. Jack approached them, trying to see the perspective of each side. He urged them to try to compromise."Maybe you could take turns playing with the football every other day?" Jack suggested. The two kids stopped yelling and listened to Jack's idea. They both agreed it was a fair compromise. From that day on, Jack made an effort to resolve conflicts in a calm way, rather than letting arguments get heated. His diligent work and genuine wish to help others made him a great peacemaker. Looking at things from multiple perspectives allowed him to find reasonable compromises.I tried to use those vocabulary words in context and tell an actual story. Hopefully I did a good job working them in naturally. The story also promoted some good values like diligence, kindness, and conflict resolution. The last section was on reading comprehension. We read a few passages and had to answer questions about the main ideas, the authors' purpose, making inferences, and so on. I'll just share one of my answers to give you an idea:The main idea of the passage is that social media use should be balanced and kept in moderation, especially for young people. The author argues that while social media allows people to connect and share in positive ways, too much time spent online can negatively impact mental health, social skills, and productivity. The author's purpose seems to be to educate readers about the potential risks of overusing social media and to encourage people to be more mindful of their media consumption. For that one, I identified the central claim, summarized the key arguments, and determined the purpose based on the content and tone. I tried to really analyze what the passage was saying rather than just regurgitating details.Phew! That's a lot of answers. I really worked hard on this exam and gave my diligent, genuine effort (see what I did there?). Overall, I feel pretty good about how I did, but I guess I'll have to wait and see what my score is.Wish me luck! Let me know if you have any other questions about the exam. Thanks for reading my longish essay - I told you English is my favorite!篇5My English Class Test AnswersHey guys! I just took the big unit test for the second half of our 7th grade English textbook "Wooden Tablets" and figured I'd share all the answers I put down in case any of you are still studying for it. Our teacher Mr. Wang is probably gonna be mad that I'm doing this, but whatever - I gotta help out my friends, right? The first section was the listening part. That one was pretty tough since Mr. Wang's English audio tracks are always kind of muffled. For the first few questions about that guy telling his friend about his weekend plans, I put:C. He was going hikingB. On Saturday afternoonA. With his cousin JackD. They were planning to camp overnightThen there were those questions about the phone conversation with the girl ordering food delivery. I wrote:B. She ordered a pepperoni pizzaA. With extra cheeseD. And a side of garlic breadC. For pick-up, not deliveryThe reading section seemed long but it wasn't actually that bad once you got into the passage. It was that one about Summer and her grandfather going on a trip to the countryside. For the questions on the main idea and details, I answered:B. The main idea was about Summer's camping adventure with her grandfatherA. True - They went camping in the mountainsC. False - It doesn't say they went fishingB. True - They made a campfire and cooked marshmallowsThen the vocabulary questions based on that passage:C. "Trudged" means walked with heavy stepsA. "Lush" means thick vegetationD. "Swaths" means wide areasB. "Remnants" means things left overThe grammar questions were pretty standard stuff we've covered before. Like for the subcategory on verb tenses:B. VisitedC. Will be watchingA. Had been waitingD. Is going to studyAnd those choosing the correct preposition:A. On the beachC. Between the two treesB. Across from the schoolD. Throughout the performanceThe writing section had us do that classic "continue the story" prompt. I tried to make mine creative and threw in some fun details:...Suddenly, a huge roar shook the ground. Summer and Grandpa turned around to see an enormous grizzly bear lumbering out of the woods! Its teeth were bared and it looked hungry. "Don't make any sudden movements," Grandpa whispered. But just then, the bear reared up on its hind legs and let out another deafening roar. That's when Summer's dog Sprinkles, who had been hiding behind a log, leapt out andstarted yapping at the bear. The bear looked startled for a second, then turned and ran away back into the forest. "Good dog, Sprinkles!" Summer shouted, giving him a big hug. From then on, she brought Sprinkles on every camping trip...I tried to throw in some vocabulary words like "lumbering" and "bared" and use past tense verbs consistently. Hopefully I get some points for making it interesting at least!Phew, that's all I can really remember for now. Let me know if you need any clarification on any of those answers. Best of luck studying, don't stay up too late, and let's get this test knocked out! Catch you guys later!篇6The Big Unit A Test!Oh man, the Unit A test in our English textbook is coming up and I've been studying like crazy! My mom says if I don't get a good score, she's going to take away my video games for a whole month. Can you imagine?! A whole month with no games?! That would be torture.I really need to ace this test. Mrs. Robinson already went over the answers to the practice test with us in class, but I'mgoing to write down everything I can remember just to make sure I have it all right for the real deal.Let's start with the reading comprehension passage about that kid who started his own business making fancy lemonade. I remember the main idea was that he was really enterprising and had a lot of creative marketing ideas. They asked what the word "enterprising" meant and the answer was C) showing initiative and willingness to undertake new projects. Then there was a question about one of the specific marketing tactics he used, and the answer was B) He held taste tests and gave away free samples. Getting people to try his product for free was a smart way to get them interested in buying it.For the vocabulary matching section, I'm pretty sure "franchise" meant D) giving someone the right to market a company's goods or services within a certain territory. And "entrepreneurs" were A) people who start their own businesses and take on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.Ugh, now we get into the grammar which is my worst section.I always mix up the words "rose" and "raised." But I'm pretty sure for that sentence about him raising money from investors, the answer was "raised." Because if it was talking about a flower itwould be "rose" but for money it's "raised." I really need to study that one more. Then there were those annoying questions about picking the right verb tense. For the one that was "After his first year, his business _____ a huge profit." I think the right answer was "made." Because you use past simple for stuff that already happened and is over with.Okay, next up was the writing section where we had to describe a creative way to advertise a product. Mrs. Robinson said the good sample answer talked about making a funny musical video to share on social media. It mentioned getting a popular influencer to promote it and do things like have a crazy dancing competition.I really hope I can remember all those details for the short answer questions too! Like how the reading mentioned he hired students from his school to work at his lemonade stands. And that he donated some of his profits to charities that help the environment. Those were the kinds of things they wanted us to summarize in our own words.Phew, I think that's everything my brain can hold for now! I'll definitely be studying these answers over and over until test day. Maybe I'll even make some flash cards or a video to help mememorize it all. A month with no video games would be unbearable! I've got to pull off my best score yet on this Unit A test. Wish me luck!。

We just got our papers back and I was so excited to see how I did. The test was from the "Hope Education" series, which is our textbook in class. The first part of the test was all about reading. We had to read a passage and answer some questions about it. I remember the story was about a boy who went on a camping trip and gotlost in the forest. Sometimes I get confused with past tense verbs and future tense verbs. But I tried my best and hoped for the best! The third part was all about writing. 月考反思英语作文500字全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1Self-reflection on the Midterm English ExamThe midterm English exam has come and gone, and it is time for me to reflect on my performance and identify areas for improvement. This exam was a valuable opportunity for me to assess my progress and understanding of the English language, and I believe that there are several key takeaways that I can learn from this experience.First and foremost, I recognize that time management was a significant issue during the exam. I found myself rushing through some of the questions and not giving myself enough time to carefully consider my answers. As a result, I made several careless mistakes and overlooked important details. In the future, I need to practice pacing myself better and ensure that I allocate enough time for each section of the exam.Additionally, I realized that my vocabulary could use some improvement. There were several words and phrases on the exam that I was unfamiliar with, and this hindered my ability tofully comprehend and respond to the questions. Moving forward, I plan to expand my vocabulary by reading more English literature and articles, as well as practicing withvocabulary-building exercises.Furthermore, I need to work on my grammar and sentence structure. I noticed that my writing was at times disjointed and lacked clarity. This was evident in both the multiple-choice and essay sections of the exam. To address this, I will focus on reviewing grammar rules, practicing sentence construction, and seeking feedback from my teacher on my writing assignments.Lastly, I need to enhance my reading comprehension skills. I struggled with understanding the passages and extracting the main ideas and details. This affected my ability to answer the questions accurately. To improve in this area, I will practice reading different types of texts, such as articles, essays, and stories, and work on identifying key points and supporting details.Overall, the midterm English exam was a valuable learning experience for me. It has highlighted areas where I need to focus and improve in order to become a more proficient English speaker and writer. Moving forward, I am committed to dedicating more time and effort to my English studies andimplementing the necessary changes to enhance my skills. I believe that with perseverance and determination, I can overcome my weaknesses and continue to grow and excel in English.篇2Reflection on Midterm ExamIn the past few weeks, I have prepared thoroughly for the midterm exam in English. I spent countless hours studying vocabulary, grammar rules, and practicing writing essays. However, when I finally received my exam results, I was disappointed to see that my score was not as high as I had hoped. This experience has led me to reflect on my study habits, exam preparation, and areas for improvement. One of the main reasons for my lower than expected score was that I did not manage my time effectively during the exam. I spent too much time on some questions, leaving me with insufficient time to complete the rest of the exam. As a result, I had to rush through the remaining questions, leading to careless errors and decreased overall performance. Moving forward, I plan to practice time management strategies to ensure that I allocate my time wisely during exams.Another aspect of my exam performance that I need to improve is my understanding of the exam instructions. In some cases, I misinterpreted the questions or failed to follow the instructions correctly, which impacted my ability to provide accurate answers. To address this issue, I will make a conscious effort to read the instructions carefully and clarify any uncertainties before starting the exam.Additionally, I realized that I need to work on expanding my vocabulary and improving my writing skills. During the exam, I struggled to find appropriate words to express my ideas and arguments, which affected the clarity and coherence of my essays. To enhance my vocabulary, I will incorporate daily word lists into my study routine and practice using new words in sentences. I also plan to seek feedback from my teachers and peers to receive constructive criticism on my writing style and structure.Overall, the midterm exam has highlighted areas where I need to focus my attention and make improvements in my English studies. By reflecting on my exam performance and identifying my weaknesses, I can develop a more effective study plan and enhance my overall academic performance. I amdetermined to learn from this experience and strive for better results in future exams.篇3Reflection on the Mid-term ExamThe mid-term exam is always a crucial test for students to check their learning progress and academic performance. It is a chance for us to demonstrate our understanding of the subjects and showcase our abilities. However, the recent mid-term exam in English has left me with some reflections and thoughts on my learning journey.First of all, the mid-term exam revealed to me the importance of consistent and continuous studying. I realized that cramming right before the exam does not lead to a solid understanding of the topics but only helps in short-term memorization. I need to establish a regular study routine and allocate enough time each day to review the materials learned in class so that I can build a strong foundation in the subject.Secondly, the mid-term exam also highlighted the significance of practice and application of the knowledge gained. In the exam, I encountered some challenging questions that required critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I realizedthat simply memorizing information is not enough; I need to practice solving different types of questions and apply the knowledge in real-life scenarios to deepen my understanding and enhance my problem-solving abilities. Moreover, the mid-term exam made me realize the importance of seeking help and clarifying doubts. During the exam, I encountered some questions that I was unsure about and hesitated to ask for help. As a result, I made some mistakes and missed out on valuable points. I learned that it is important to reach out to my teachers or classmates when I have doubts or need clarification to ensure that I have a clear understanding of the topics. In addition, the mid-term exam also taught me the significance of time management and exam strategies. I realized that I need to allocate my time wisely during the exam and prioritize the questions I know well before attempting the more challenging ones. I also learned the importance of reading the instructions carefully and planning my answers before starting to write, so that I can effectively present my ideas and arguments in a structured and coherent manner.Overall, the mid-term exam was a valuable learning experience for me, as it helped me identify areas forimprovement and provided me with insights on how to enhance my learning approach in the future.
