AHave you ever told yourself that you're going to go on a healthy diet? It started off great, but after a couple of days when you saw a huge piece of your favorite chocolate cake sitting on the table, you couldn't help but go back to your old not -so-healthy eating habits. It's like a cycle actually, and it does happen to most of us —a healthy diet for a couple of weeks, a not-so-healthy one for the next, and then back to eating the healthy one. It just goes round and round. So, what exactly do we need to do so that we can maintain a healthy diet? For this, we're going to look into some ways that will allow us to eat a healthy diet while enjoying every meal.Eating a healthy diet is not as hard as it looks. It starts with learning what you should eat, and how you should do so. Knowing the results of every food you eat is also imperative. Say, for example, you eat a lot of salty foods today. Knowing what will happen to you in ten years' time, which, in this case, could be a kidney disorder, will actually let you think more clearly today before going on with that eating habit of yours. The first step that you should do is to set in your mind that this healthy diet is going to be successful. This is going to be a process, and it should be done step by step, little by little. You really don't need to keep on counting the calories that you've obtained for you'll just end up frustrated. First, think of the foods that you love. For now, think only of the healthy ones. Surely there's a vegetable or a fruit that you love to eat. Next, look for recipes, simple ones that contain these foods. Gradually start from there and you will come to appreciate the other nutritious foods as well. These simple steps will definitely perk you up(使你振奋) and make you start that healthy diet again. And if you do it right, it will last longer than what you have expected.语篇解读本篇文章的话题与健康饮食有关,主要讲了我们如何既能健康饮食,又能每一顿饭都吃得津津有味。

Although dieters may really show weight loss from a fad diet, they will almost certainly get back the weight if their usual eating habits (习惯) remain unchanged. Moreover, fad diets con tinuously call for special products of questionable value or for “health foods” that may cost twice as much as supermarket(超市) foods. Worse yet, certain fad diets don't include nutrients(营养)good for health. People have been known to become very ill as a result of following medically unhealthy diets. The worse fact of fad diets, though, is that they keep people who are over-weight or sick from receiving the medical care that they truly need.46. It could not be bought in shops and even those people who couldafford to have it sent from Holland did so only because it was a fashionable curiosity. Some of them were not sure how to use it. They thought it was a vegetable and tried cooking the leaves. Then they served them mixed with butter and salt. They soon discovered their mistake but many people used to spread the used tea leaves on bread and give them to their children as sandwiches.Tea remained scarce and very expensive in England until the ships of the East India Company began to bring it direct from China early in the seventeenth century. During the next few years so much tea came into the country that the price fell and many people could afford to buy it. At the same time people on the Continent were becoming more and more fond of tea.Until then tea had been drunk without milk in it, but one day a famous French lady named Madame de Sevigne decided to see what tea tasted like when milk was added. She found it so pleasant that she would never again drink it without milk. Because she was such a great lady her friends thought they must copy everything she did, so they also drank their tea with milk in it. Slowly this habit spread until it reached England and today only very few Britons drink tea without milk.At first, tea was usually drunk after dinner in the evening No one ever thought of drinking tea in the afternoon until a duchess (公爵夫人) found that a cup of tea and a piece of cake at three or four o’clock stopped her getting “a sinking feeling” as she called it. She invited her friends to have this new meal with her and so, tea-time was born.31.Which of the following is true of the introduction of tea into Britain?A. It is important to remember that the body needs proper care in order to be healthy. There are three things that a person can do to help stay in good shape: eat right food ,get enough sleep, and exercise regularly.Proper nutrition (营养) is important for good health. Your body cannot work well unless it receives the proper kind of “fuel”(燃料).Don't eat too much food with lots of sugar and fat. Eat plenty of foods high in protein (蛋白质) ,like meat, fish, eggs and nuts. Vegetables and fruits are very important because they provide necessary vitamins (维他命) and minerals. However, don't overeat. It is not helpful to be overweight. Getting the proper amount of sleep is also important. If you don't get enough sleep, you feel tired and easily get angry. You have no energy. Over a long period of time a little a amount of sleep may even result in a change of personality (人的个性).Be sure to allow yourself from seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you do, your body will feel strong and refreshed, and your mind will be sharp. Finally, get plenty of exercise. Exercise firms the body, strengthens the muscles, and prevents you from gaining weight. It also improves your heart and lungs. If you follow a regular exercise program, you will probably increase your life-span (寿命).Any kind of exercise is good. Most sports are excellent for keeping the body in good shapes: basketball, swimming, bicycling, running and so on are good examples. Sports are not only good for your body, but they are enjoyable and interesting, too. If everybody, were to eat the right foods, get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly, the world would be a happier and healthier place. We would all live to be much older and wiser.36. Service learning is academic learning that also helps the community.3 of service learning include cleaning up a polluted river, working in a soup kitchen, or tutoring a student.4 a service experience, students must keep a journal and thenwrite a 5 about what they have learned.Supporters claim that there are many 6 of service learning. People drink diet sodas in the hope that it will help them lose weight or at least keep them from gaining it. Yet it seems to have exactly the opposite effect, according to a new study.Researchers from the University of Texas said those who drank two or more diet sodas a day had waist size increases that were six times greater than those who didn't drink diet sodas. "What we saw was that the more diet sodas a person drank, the more weight they were likely to gain,"said Sharon Fowler. The study was based on data from 474 participants in a large, ongoing research project, where the participants were followed for nearly 10 years. While the findings are surprising, they also offer some explanations.Nutrition expert, Melanie Rogers, who works with overweight patients in New York, has found that when patients are switched from regular to diet sodas, they don't lose weight at all. "We weren't seeing weight loss necessarily, and that was confusing to us,"said Rogers. So why would diet soda cause weight gain? No one knows for sure yet, but it could be that people think they can eat more if they drink diet sodas, and so over-compensate for the missing calories.A related study found some sweeteners (甜味剂) raised blood sugar levels in some mice. "Data from this and other potential studies suggest that the promotion of diet sodas and artificial sweeteners may be risky,"said Helen P. Hazuda, professor at the University of Texas's school of medicine. "They may be free of calories, but not of consequences."(1)People drink diet sodas to ____________.A.enjoy its tasteB.stay in fashionC.achieve weight lossD.gain more energy(2)The new study suggests that drinking diet sodas ____________.A.causes people to become heavierB.helps people to be healthierC.makes people much thinnerD.offers people more calories(3)We can learn from the passage that ____________.A.regular sodas make people lose more weightB.diet soda drinkers tend to eat more foodC.diet sodas do help reduce caloriesD.most blood diseases come from diet sodas(4)The underlined word "They"in the last paragraph probably refers to "____________".A.sweetenersB.diet sodas and artificial sweetenersC.sodasD.diet soda drinkers and sweetener takers(二)There are lots of insects that farmers hate. But there also are some they like. They protect crops against damage from other insects. A good example is the lady beetle, which is also known as the ladybug(瓢虫).Lady beetles are a natural control for aphids(蚜虫). Lady beetles are red, orange or black. They often have black spots, though some have light colored spots. Different kinds of lady beetles have different numbers of spots. There are lady beetles with four, five, seven and fourteen spots. Many of the well-known kinds of lady beetles come from Asia or Europe. They now are common throughout the United States.American scientists imported one kind of lady beetle, the multicolored Asian lady beetle, as early as 1916. They released them as an attempt to control some kinds of insects. Over the years, the beetle has become established, possibly helped by some that arrived with imported plants on ships.Experts say over 450 kinds of lady beetles are found in North America. Some are native to the area. Others have been brought from other places. Almost all are helpful to farmers. The Asian lady beetles now in the United States probably came from Japan. The Asian lady beetle eats aphids that damage crops like soybeans, fruits and berries. In the southern United States, Asian lady beetles have reduced the need for farmers to use reskilling poisons on pecan trees. This popular tree nut suffers from aphids and other pests that the lady beetles eat.But some people say the Asian lady beetle has itself become a pest. They worry that the ladybeetles may eat their late autumn fruit crops.Experts say Asian lady beetles may appear in large numbers in some years. But they say the insects are too helpful to be considered as pests.(1)What do ladybugs look like?()A.All kinds of ladybugs are of the same color.B.Most of them are red, orange or black.C.They each have the same number of spots on them.D.Most of them have fourteen spots.(2)Asian ladybugs have been in the United States for______.A.nine decadesB.hundreds of yearsC.half a centuryD.a century(3)According to the passage the following statements are supported EXCEPT________.A.there are more than 450 kinds of ladybugs in North America, including native onesB.only some imported ladybugs are helpful to the local plantsC.soybeans, fruits and berries are favorites of aphids.D.pecan trees are common in the south of America(4)According to the experts, ladybugs are________.A.more helpful than considered as petsB.more pests than helpful insectsC.helpful as well as destructiveD.are more destructive than helpful四、任务型阅读(共5分)Food will become healthier and the food choices will become smarter and promote healthy eating once your kitchen is well organized.________They also give you a head start to start establishing a kitchen that encourages you to eat quality food.Keep fresh spices and herbs within reachable distance. Although science has made big steps in making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of human illness is related to food and forty percent of cancer is related to food as well. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, some researchers realized that things commonly used to keep colour in meats and other food additives(添加剂)caused cancer.Yet, these additives remain in our food, and it is difficult to know which things on the wrappings(包装)of foods are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin to their animals, and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of cows. Sometimes similar tings are supplied to animals not for their health, but just to make a profit. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to get a higher price on the market. Although some countries have tried to control such things, the practice continues.76. People watched him,and they began to buy and eat a lot more spinach. Popeye helped sell 33 percent more spinach than before! Spinach became a necessary part of many people’s diets. Even some children who hated the taste began to eat the vegetable. Many people thought that the iron in spinach made Popeye strong, but this is not true. Spinach does not have any more iron than any other green vegetable.People only thought spinach had a lot of iron because the people who studied the food made a mistake. In the 1890s,a group of people studied what was inside vegetables. This group said that spinach had ten times more iron than it did. The group wrote the number wrong, and everyone accepted it.Today,we know that the little iron there is in spinach cannot make a difference in how strong a person is. APeople are overweight for many reasons, the most important one of which is that they eat the wrong foods, get the wrong types of calories per meal, and they also eat meals at the wrong time each day. Food is more powerful than any weight loss pill, because the food that you eat can either make you thin or fat. This is true because your body is like an engine, and it only needs certain foods at certain intervals(间隔) each day.Low-calorie Diets Do Not WorkThe reason people cannot lose weight by starving themselves is that their metabolism(新陈代谢) will detect any major drop in calories and it will then adjust(调整) itself by burning fewer calories each day. That is the reason why you can eat 1,000 calories per day and not lose any weight, while your friends can eat 2,500 calories per day and not gain any weight.Low-fat Diets Do Not WorkMany people in today’s society are buying mostly low-fat or non-fat food at the grocery store. Everybody knows how much fat is inside the food they buy. However, people are getting fatter than ever before by doing this. They are not losing weight by changing to this low fat lifestyle.Losing weight has nothing to do with these things. One of the most important things you can do to control your weight is to eat the proper foods, such as fruit and vegetables, eat them at the right time, and exercise every day. If people make this a habit, they will lose weight.1. What is the main reason why people are overweight?A. They eat the wrong foods at the wrong time.B. They eat food with lots of calories.C. It has been found that adding carrot juice to people’s di ets greatly improves their health. And its delicious taste makes it popular with all members of the family as a beverage.Carrot juice is one of the richest sources of vitamin A that can be used in the daily diet. Lack (缺乏) of vitamin A can cause dryness and damage to the skin, nails and hair. Drinking carrot juice to increase the vitamin A in the diet is said to be good for many parts of the body, including the bones and teeth.Drinking carrot juice is thought to be extremely helpful to the liver (肝脏), because vitamin A helps to clean the liver and reduce fat in it. And it is suggested that drinking carrot juice should be done regularly, rather than just from time to time.Drinking carrot juice is also thought to improve the eyesight because of the vitamin A in the juice. Lack of vitamin A can lead to night blindness, which can be very dangerous, especially when the person is driving a car. An easy way to find out if you are lacking in vitamin A is to walk from a bright room into a dark room. Your eyes may have some trouble in getting used to the change of light if you are lacking in vitamin A.How can you make carrot juice? Wash some carrots well in cold water.

ASundays, I walk to the supermarket. Mother hands me the grocery list and puts money in my pocket, hoping it will be enough. She's had a hard day, and I've had a hard week. Nothing out of the ordinary happens when I get to the store. I grab the bread, some milk, and other things on the list. As I turn to head out, I see a beautiful dress in the window. I turn away, bitter that I could never own such a dress.Outside, I cannot stop thinking about that pretty dress. It's not fair that I can never have what I want. I work so hard to help my family and yet I get nothing in return, just another list to do. In my anger, I fail to realize the apples are rolling across the road. Suddenly, I see a pair of hands, offering me an apple. Looking up, I see the tanned (晒黑的) face of this stranger. His clothes are mismatched, borrowed or stolen. But his eyes are soft and kind.“Thanks,” I say. No other words are spoken as he continues to help me. I tell him “thank you” one more time and am on my way because I have many other things to finish. Suddenly, he says, “Have a good day, ma'am.” And then he gives me the biggest smile I have ever seen. Right then, he looks years younger — and I feel a fool.Look at me, feeling sorry for myself because I don't get what I want! Do I not think others are in the same boat, or worse? There are worse things than not having a beautiful dress. My mother will hand me the list today. I will make the same journey and probably see something I want but cannot have. But before I start to feel sorry for myself, I will remember the kind stranger with the big smile, and I will grab the last item, and check out.21. It is the deep sea. Over the years, many people have explored under the sea. But the first deep-sea divers (潜水员) wanted to find sunken treasure. They weren't really interested in studying the creatures of life there. Only recently have they begun to learn some of the mysteries of the sea. It's not easy to explore the deep sea. A diver must have a way of breathing underwater. He must be able to protect himself from great pressure (压力). The pressure of air is about 15 pounds on every square inch. But the pressure of water is about 1,300 pounds on every square inch! The first diving suits (潜水服) were made of rubber. They had a metal helmet (头盔) with windows in it. The shoes were made of lead and weighed twenty pounds each! These suits let divers go down a few hundred feet, but they were no good for exploring the very deep waters. With a metal diving suit, a diver could go down 700 feet. Metal suits were first used in the 1930s.In 1927, a diver named William Beebe wanted to explore deeper than anyone had ever gone before. He was not interested in finding treasure. He wanted to study the creatures and plants of the sea. His friend invented a metal ball called the Bathysphere. It weighed more than 5,000 pounds, but in it Beebe went down 3,028 feet. He saw many things that had never been seen by humans before.25. People who first explored the deep sea hoped to _____.A. learn about the animals and plants of the seaB. solve some mysteries about the seaC. have an exciting trip in the seaD. discover treasure under the sea26. According to the text, what make(s) deep-sea diving difficult?A. The pressure of water.B. The temperature of water.C. The dangerous sea creatures.D. The heavy breathing equipment.27. Compared with rubber diving suits, metal diving suits _____.A. had windows in the metal helmetB. weighed twenty more poundsC. were good for exploring deeper watersD. began to be used much earlier28. What do we know about William Beebe from the text?A. He broke the diving record in his time.B. He failed to find the treasure he wanted.C. He met something terrible under the sea.D. He was the first diver to explore the deep sea.COne day, a patient came to see me. He worked as a waiter in a restaurant and his problem was acid reflux (胃酸倒流), a disease that influences as many as 40 percent of Americans, a marked increase in recent years. Reflux can lead to esophageal (食道的) cancer, which has increased by about 500 percent since the 1970s. The drugs we use to treat reflux don't always work and may even increase the risk of developing cancer when used long term. What is responsible for these worrying developments? For one, our poor diet, with its huge increases in the intake of sugar, fat, soft drinks, and unhealthy foods. But another important fact has been overlooked: dinnertime. Over the past twenty years, the time of my patients' evening meals has become later and later. Dinner —already pushed back by longer work hours —is often further delayed (推迟) by activities such as shopping and exercise. In my experience, the single most important treatment for reflux is to avoid late eating. A patient with reflux came to see me because her father and uncle died of esophageal cancer, and she was afraid of getting it too. Her nightly routine (常规) included a 9 p.m. dinner with at least two bottles of red wine. The reflux was serious, and changes were needed. She listened, then did not come back to see me for a year. “For the first two months, I just hated you,” she told me, “and for the next two months, I was having some trouble eating. I guessed I was going to die of esoph ageal cancer.” Then sheadded, “You know, we're the reason that it's not so easy to get 6 p.m. reservations (预约) at the good restaurants anymore.”To stop the increase in reflux disease, we have to stop eating at least three hours before bed. As for my waiter patient? I told him to eat dinner before 7 p.m. Within six weeks, his reflux was gone.29. The disease the waiter caught is _____.A. on the riseB. easy to controlC. unusual in AmericaD. the most dangerous cancer30. What does the underlined word “overlooked” in Paragraph 2 mean?A. Talked about a lot.B. Paid no attention to.C. Carefully looked into.D. Taken into consideration.31. Why did the woman patient hate the author?A. He spoke of her dead father and uncle.B. He asked her to change her eating habits.C. He couldn't find a way to deal with her problem.D. He couldn't make her healthy again within a year.32.
