2020版高考英语一轮基础习选题 Unit 4 Astronomy the science of the stars(含解析)

Unit 4 Astronomy the science of the stars李仕才一、阅读理解。

The Internet plays a big part in human life. We use it for work and entertainment. We can find new recipes on the Internet or advice on staying healthy. We can even use it to learn a new language. We use the Internet to connect with family and friends and stay in touch with issues we care about. The list goes on and on.As far as the Internet being a part of our lives—well, that train has left the station. That expression means there is no going back. If you prefer boating, you can say that ship has sailed. So, there may be no going back to an Internet-free life. But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health? It might be, say researchers.Study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week online were more likely to have high blood pressure.High blood pressure makes your heart and blood vessels work too hard. Over time, this extra strain increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke.High blood pressure can also cause heart and kidney disease. It is also closely linked to some forms of dementia, a brain disease. Dementia is marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and a reduced ability to reason.Let’s introduce something about the study of it.The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan did the study. It involved 335 young people, from 14 to 17 years old. One hundred thirty-four of the teens were described as “heavy Internet users”. Researchers found that out of these 134 teens, 26 had high blood pressure. The researchers say the study is the first to connect heavy web use and high blood pressure. Other research has connected that heavy Internet use with health problems including anxiety, depression and obesity. The lead researcher of the study is Andrea Cassidy-Bushrow. In a statement she said, “Using the Internet is part of our daily life but it shouldn’t consume us. ”For the purpose of the study, she explains, teens considered heavy Internet users were online on “average 25 hours a week. ”Ms Cassidy-Bushrow adds that it is important for teens to take “regular breaks from their computers or smartphones” and to do some “kind of physical activity. ”She also suggests that parents limit their children’s use of the Internet to two hours a day, five days a week.【文章大意】互联网如此有用并且融入我们的生活, 但过度使用它, 会导致多种健康问题。

UNIT 4 单元主题训练Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2022·佛山二模)The future of space exploration may depend on an art form from the past: origami (折纸艺术), the ancient art of paper folding.Researchers from Washington State University (WSU), US, have used origami to possibly solve the problem of storing and moving fuel to rocket engines, a key challenge in space travel, according to Newswise. They've developed a foldable plastic fuel “bladder (囊状物)” resistant to super cold temperatures, which could be used to store and pump fuel in spacecrafts of the future.Their findings have recently been published in the journal Cryogenics.“Folks have been trying to make bags for rocket fuel for a long time,” said Jake Leachman, one of the lead researchers.“We currently don't do large, long-duration trips because we can't store fuel long enough in space.”Meanwhile, NASA is also looking to paper folding to help observe distant planets. The agency is currently developing Starshade, a foldable, sunflower-shaped piece of hardware that would help block starlight and enable telescopes to view distant objects more clearly in space.“A huge part of my job is looking at something on paper and asking, ‘Can we fly this?’” Manan Arya, a technologist in California, said.“Once I realized this is how you fold spacecraft structures, I became interested in origami.I realized I was good at it and enjoyed it.Now, I fold constantly.”Using origami for space purposes isn't new, however.Solar arrays (太阳能阵列), experimental wings for space shuttle programs and an inflatable (可充气的) satellite were also inspired by origami in both past and present space projects.“With most origami, the magic comes from the folding,” Robert Salazar, who helped design the Starshade and now works on the Transformers project, said in a statement.“There are so many patterns to still be explored.”语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

2.How did tiger sharks help the scientific research? A.By tracking signals scientists sent. B.By bringing back cameras with videos. C.By carrying the recording equipment around. D.By spending a lot of time in seagrass meadows.
As a shelter for many sea creatures, seagrass is a flowering plant that normally grows in shallow waters near coasts. They grow in thick fields, known as seagrass meadows(海草草场),which help clean the ocean water.More importantly, they are called “ocean lung”.They help in the fight against the climate crisis. That’s because they store huge amounts of carbon—the majoing.Damaging these seagrass meadows can release this pollutant again, making things worse.

Others, like snowshoe hares, take center stage in predators' (捕食者的) view when they lack snow for disguising their white fur, which is not a good thing for them, of course.Black bears, on the other hand, have been keeping busy gathering nuts and apples, when they would normally have settled into their winter homes by now. Vermont and Massachusetts officials have asked residents to wait till snowfalls to take out their bird feeders for the sake of safety, the article said.“We suggest waiting for six or more inches of snow that lasts before taking out your bird feeders, especially if you have been visited in the past by bears or if there are sightings of bears in your neighborhood,〞 Forrest Hammond, Vermont Fish and Wildlife's bear biologist, said in the article. “Due to lack of snow and frozen ground, birds are able to seek in fields and forests for their natural foods.〞Snow amounts can also determine how comfortable bears are and how quickly they consume their accumulated fat during hibernation (冬眠), noted Hammond in the article. This is because snow covers and traps them in their winter homes, and also hides them from predators.5.What may upset snowshoe hares because of El Nino?A.Their being caught more easily. B.Their failing to gather more food.C.Their consuming more energy. D.Their losing sight of their enemies.6.Why did the officials ask people to keep bird feeders until snowfalls?A. 阅读理解专练(四)(限时30分钟)AFrom the cold Arctic to the African plains, every society seems to have some form of music as part of their culture. Music is so common and widespread that most people don’t even question it anymore. But until recently, there were researchers who doubted it: How could we know that music was really a part of all known societies? Now, Harvard researchers, Samuer Mehr and Manvir Singh, have found further evidence to support the argument. They gathered music from different countries, media and time periods, and collected descriptions of many different pieces of music. Rather than focusing on music first and then looking at where it could be found, they started by studying a record of detailed descriptions of more than three hundred known global societies, and found that all of them have music as part of their culture. To see if people could recognize the functions of songs from around the world, the researchers also created a listening experiment in which people tried to guess the behavioral context of a song. This went surprisingly well. Particularly music that was intended for dancing or tocalm a baby was easy to recognize as either dance music or lullabies. Love songs were a bit more difficult to qualify, because they tend to be very diverse even within cultures. This systematic study of connections sounds like the way that researchers in other fields would study biological patterns. “There’s a field known as cultural phylogenetics, ” says Singh. Whereas biological characteristics are only received from parent to child, cultural characteristics (like music) are also shared between people of the same generation. That makes it much more difficult to figure out where the characteristic has come from.“Finally, ” Singh says, “We s till don’t know why music developed gradually. Our study shows that humans everywhere share cognitive mechanisms (认知机制) that make certain sounds seem appropriate in particular contexts. ”【文章大意】本文是一篇议论文, 介绍世界各地的音乐拥有的共同特点, 同时成为各种文化不可或缺的组成部分。

Unit 4 Space Exploration一、阅读理解A[素材创新/]During space missions, astronauts can experience a loss of some of the inner structural support in their bones, reducing the density(密度) of them. For trips in space lasting at least 6 months, the bone loss is equal to about 20 years of aging. Fortunately, a new study finds a year back on earth rebuilds about half of strength lost in the affected bones."Our bones are always remodeling(重塑)," notes exercise scientist Leigh Gabel. "But they’ll lo se some of their strength when in space."Gabel was part of a team that tracked 17 astronauts. Each of these 14 men and 3 women had spent from 4 to 7 months in space. The team measured the 3-D structure of their bones. They focused on the structure of the tibia(胫骨) in the lower leg and the lower-arm bone. The researchers took images of the bones 4 times — before spaceflight, then when the astronauts returned from space, and again six months and one year later. From the pictures, they got to know an astronau t’s bone strength and density at each of those times.Astronauts in space for less than six months reco v ered their preflight bone strength after a year back on earth. But those who stayed in space longer suffered permanent bone loss in their tibias. That loss was equal to a decade of aging. The lower-arm bones showed almost no loss. That was likely because these aren’t weight-bearing bones on earth, Gabel explains. In fact, those arms can get a bigger workout in space than on earth as astronauts use them to mo v e around their craft by pushing off handles and doorways."Increasing weight-lifting exercises in space could help reduce bone loss in legs," says exercise scientist Ste v en Boyd."With longer spaceflight, we can expect bigger bone loss — and probably a bigger problem with reco v ery," says physiologist Laurence Vico. "Space agencies should also consider other bone heath measures to reduce bone loss and increase bone formation."身处太空中的宇航员会出现骨质流失的情况,而且他们在太空中待的时间越长,这种情况会越严重。

In the more and more competitive service industry, it is no longer enough to promise customer satisfaction. Today, customer “delight” is what companies are trying to achieve in or order to keep and increase market share. It is accepted in the marketing industry, and confirmed by a number of researches, that customers receiving good service will promote business by telling up to 12 other people: those treated badly will tell their tales of woe to up to 20 people, 80 percent of people who feel their complaints are handled fairly will stay loyalNew lunges for customer care have come when people can obtain goods and services through telephone call centers and the Internet. For example , many companies now have to invest()a lot of money in information technology and staff training in order to cope with the “phone rage”—caused by delays in answering calls ,being cut off inmid-conversation or left waiting for long periods.“Many people do not like talking to machines,” says Dr . Storey Senior Lecturer in Marketing at City University Business School. “Banks, for example, encourage staff at call centers to use customer data to establish instant and good relationship with them .The aim is to make the customer feel they know you and that you can trust— the sort of comfortable feelings people have during face-to-face chats with their local branch manager.”Recommended ways of creating customer delight include:under-promising and over-delivering (saying that a repair will be calmed out within five hours ,but getting it done within two );replacing a faulty product immediately : throwing in a gift voucher(购物礼卷)as an unexpected “thank you” to rental customers ;and always returning calls ,even when they are complaints.Aiming for customer delight is all very well , but if services do not reach the high level promised , disappointment or worse will be the result . This can be eased by offering an apology and an explanation of why the service did not meet usual standards with empathy (for example,”I know how you must feel”), and possible solutions (replacement , compensation or whatever fames suggests best meets the case).Airlines face some of the toughest challenges over customer care. Fierce competition has convinced them that delighting passengers is an important marketing tool, while there is great potential for customer anger over delays caused by weather, unclaimed luggage and technical problems. For British Airways staff, a winning telephone style is considered vital in handling the large volume of calls about bookings and flighttimes. They are trained to answer quickly, with their name, job title and a “we are here to help” attitude. The company has invested heavily in information technology to make sure that information is available instantly on screen.British Airways also says its customer care policies are applied within the company and staff are taught to regard each other as customers requiring the highest standards of service.Customer care is obviously here to stay and it would be a foolish company that used slogans such as "we do as we please”. On the other hand, the more customers are promised, the greater the risk of disappointment.( ) 1. We can learn from Paragraph 2 that .A. complaining customers are hard to satisfyB. unsatisfied customers receive better serviceC. Satisfied customers catch more attentionD. well-treated customers promote business( ) 2. The writer mentions “phone rage”(Paragraph 3) to showthat .A. customers often use phones to express their angerB. people still prefer to buy goods onlineC. customer care becomes more attentionD. customers rely on their phones to obtain services ( ) 3. What does the writer recommend to create delight?A. Calling customers regularlyB. Giving a “thank you” note.C. Delivering a quicker serviceD. Promising more gifts.( ) 4. If a manager should show his empathy (Paragraph6), what would he probably say?A. “I know how upset you must be.”B. “I appreciate y our understanding.”C. “I’m sorry for the delay.”D. “I know it’s our fault.”( ) 5. Customer delight is important for airlines because .A. their telephone style remains unchangedB. they are more likely to meet with complaintsC. the services cost them a lot of moneyD. the policies can be applied to their staff( ) 6. Which of the following is conveyed in this article?A. Face-to-face service creates comfortable feelings among customers.B. Companies that promise more will naturally attract more customers.C. A company should promise less but do more in a competitive market.D. Customer delight is more important for airlines than for banks.【参考答案】1—6、DCCABC阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

江西彭泽县2017高考英语阅读理解一轮选练阅读理解。

Blind imitation (模仿)is self-destruction. To those who do not recognize their unique worth. Imitation appears attractive: to those who know their strength. Imitation is unacceptable. In the early stages of skill or character development, imitation is helpful. When I first learned to cook, I used recipes (菜谱) and turned out some tasty dishes. But soon I grew bored. Why follow someone else’s way of cooking when I could create my own? Imitating role models is like using training wheels on a child’s bicycle; they help you get going, but once you find your own balance, you fly faster and farther without relying on them.In daily life, imitation can hurt us if we subconsciously (下意识地) hold poor role models. If, as a child, you observed people whose lives were bad, you may have accepted their fear and pain as normal and gone on to follow what they did. If you do not make strong choices for yourself, you will get the results of the weak choices of others. In the field of entertainment, our culture glorifies celebrities. Those stars look great on screen. But when they step off screen, their personal lives may be disastrous. If you are going to follow someone, focus on their talent, not their bad character or unacceptable behaviors.Blessed is the person willing to act on their sudden desire to create something unique. Think of the movies, books, teachers, and friends that have affected you most deeply. They touched you because their creations were motivated by inspiration, not desperation. The world is changed not by those who do what has been done before them, but by those who do what has been done inside them. Creative people have an endless resource of ideas. The problem a creator faces is not running out of material; it is what to do with the material knocking at the door of imagination. Syudy your role models, accept the gifts they have given, and leave behind what does not server. Then you can say,” I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors” tragedies and tory, and know that they are cheering on.( ) 1.Imitation proves useful when you .A. know you are uniqueB. lose the balance of lifeC. begin to learn something newD. get tired of routine practice( ) 2. To avoid the bad result of imitation, we should________.A. forget daily fear and painB. choose the right exampleC. ask others for decisionsD. stay away from stars( ) 3.Acording to the author. The world moves on because of those who are .A. desperate to intruence others with their knowledgeB. ready to turn their original ideas into realityC. eager to discover what their ancestors didD. willing to accept others’ ideas( ) 4.The trouble a creator faces is .A. the lack of strong motivationB. the absence of practical ideasC. how to search for more materialsD. how to use imagination creatively( ) 5. What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage?A. To highlight the importance of creatively.B. To criticize the characters of role models.C. To compare imitation with creation.D. 2014高考训练题Do you know how to use a mobile phone without being rude to the people around you?Talking during a performance irritates (激怒) people. If you are expecting an emergency call, sit near the exit doors and set your phone to vibrate (振动). When your mobile phone vibrates, you can leave quietly and let the others enjoy the performance.Think twice before using mobile phones in elevators, museums, churches or other indoor public places—especially enclosed spaces. Would you want to listen to someone’s conversation in these places? Worse yet, how would you feel if a mobile phone rang suddenly during a funeral! It happens more often than you think. Avoid these embarrassing situations by making sure your mobile phone is switched off. When eating at a restaurant with friends, don’t place your mobile phone on the table. This conveys the message that your phone calls are more important than those around you.Mobile phones have sensitive microphones that allow you to speak at the volume you would on a regular phone.
