必修三Unit 2 Healthy Eating练习Ⅰ.阅读理解AWatching what you eat can be easier said than done, but a recent study shows it might not just be about what's on your plate — it could be about how quickly it disappears.Japanese researchers followed 1,083 adults for five years, splitting them into three categories based on how quickly they ate: slow, normal, and fast. They also answered a questionnaire at the beginning of the study, sharing their diet, physical activity, and medical history. In the beginning, none of the volunteers had metabolic syndrome(新陈代谢综合征) — meaning at least three risk factors — which can lead to health problems like heart conditions and diabetes. When the participants reported back five years later, 84 had been diagnosed (诊断) with metabolic syndrome —and their eating speed was a major predictor, according to the results in the journal Circulation. The fast eaters were 89 percent more likely to have metabolic syndrome than slow and normal eaters.Just 2.3 percent of slow eaters received the diagnosis, compared to 11.6 percent of fast eaters. But that's not all. Fast eaters also saw more weight gain, larger waistlines, and higher blood sugar levels than slow eaters. The researchers say gobbling makes it easier not to take notice of fullness before your body has a chance to signal you to stop. “So when people eat fast they are more likely to overeat,” said Takayuki Yamaji, MD, study author and cardiologist at Hiroshima University in Japan in a statement.Previous research backs up the weight benefits of slow eating, too. One study of New Zealand women found fast eaters have higher body-mass indexes (指数), and a Chinese study found that both healthy and fat men ate less when told to chew 40 times instead of 15 times before swallowing. Initial research even suggests chewing your food longer could burn more calories — up to about 1,000 extra every month.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

高三英语一轮复习课时作业12:Unit 2 Healthy eating

Unit 2 Healthy eatingⅠ.阅读理解AGood health is the most valuable thing a person can have, but one cannot take good health for granted(认为……理所应当). It is important to remember that the body needs proper care in order to be healthy. There are three things that a person can do to help stay in good shape: eat right food, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly.Proper nutrition (营养) is important for good health. Your body cannot work well unless it receives the proper kind of “fuel”(燃料).Don't eat too much food with lots of sugar and fat. Eat plenty of foods high in protein (蛋白质),like meat, fish, eggs and nuts. Vegetables and fruits are very important because they provide necessary vitamins (维他命) and minerals. However, don't overeat. It is not helpful to be overweight.Getting the proper amount of sleep is also important. If you don't get enough sleep, you feel tired and easily get angry. You have no energy. Over a long period of time a little amount of sleep may even result in a change of personality (人的个性).Be sure to allow yourself from seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you do, your body will feel strong and refreshed, and your mind will be sharp. Finally, get plenty of exercise. Exercise firms the body, strengthens the muscles, and prevents you from gaining weight. It also improves your heart and lungs. If you follow a regular exercise program, you will probably increase your life-span (寿命).Any kind of exercise is good. Most sports are excellent for keeping the body in good shapes: basketball, swimming, bicycling, running and so on are good examples. Sports are not only good for your body, but they are enjoyable and interesting, too.If everybody, were to eat the right foods, get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly, the world would be a happier and healthier place. We would all live to be much older and wiser.1.According to the passage, ________.A.we should always keep fitB.if we were healthy, we could spend our days in doing things with less sleepC.one can eat a lot to stay in good shapeD.one needn't take any exercise if he is healthy2.In order to keep good health, ________.A.we should eat a lot of sweetsB.one needs a large amount of fatC.people should eat according to the foods nutritionD.we must try to sleep now and then3.Eating more and sleeping less ________.A.can keep healthyB.is no good for youC.gets you more energyD.will keep your personality4.The writer explains ________in this passage.A.how to eatB.the importance of doing exerciseC.how to keep healthyD.what to eat5.The title of the article should be ________.A.Eating and ExercisingB.How Vitamins Work in Man's BodyC.Staying HealthyD.Sleeping WellBAlmost every day, we discuss the topic of health, especially for kids. But what is health? “Health” means eating well, ge tting enough exercise, and having a healthy weight. Let's read the following rules. They can help you stay healthy.①Eat a_variety_of foods, especially fruit and vegetables. We all know that eating fruit and vegetables can help us stay healthy, but many of us only eat our favorite foods. Remember that we can only get the nutrition(营养) we need by eating different kinds of food, especially fruit and vegetables.②Drink water and milk most often. Everyone knows that water is important. Besides that, kids need plenty of calcium(钙) to grow strong bones, and milk has a lot of it. Every day, you should drink at least three cups of milk (1300 milligrams of calcium), when you are 9 years old or older. You should also try to have less sugary drinks, like soda and coca. They include a lot of sugar. Sugar just includes calories, not important nutrition.③Listen to your body. When you are eating, notice how your body feels. When your stomach feels comfortably full, stop eating. Eating too much makes you feel uncomfortable. If you do it too often, it can make you unhealthy and fat.④Limit(限制) screen time. What's screen time? It's the amount of time you spend watching TV, movies, and playing computer games. The more time you spend on these sitting-down activities, the less time you spend playing sports, like basketball, and doing other activities like bike riding and swimming. Try to spend no more than 2 hours a day on screen time.6.In this passage, “health” includes all of the following EXCEPT ________.A.eating wellB.wearing comfortablyC.having a healthy weightD.doing more exercise7.The underlined phrase “a variety of” means ________.A.plenty B.a lot ofC.the rest of D.all kinds of8.As kids, we should drink at least ________ to grow strong bones.A.three cups of milk B.four cups of milkC.two cups of milk D.one cup of milk9.What's the main idea of the passage?A.How to eat healthily.B.Eating and playing are both important.C.Advice for staying healthy.D.Health is very important.Ⅱ.完形填空The Little AngelSally jumped up the moment she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. But do you know it can also make you look good? People who increased their intake over just six weeks developed a healthy glow and appeared more attractive, researchers found. Scientists at St. Andrews University found eating them slightly increased yellow and red pigments in the volunteers' skin. They monitored the food intake of 35 people and took pictures of their faces, arms and hands using a sensitive camera at the start, and after three and six weeks. Increasing their intake of greens by 2.9 portions a day was found to make the person look more healthy and an extra 3.3 portions could enhance their attractiveness, when their photographs were rated by others.Fruit and vegetables are rich in carotenoids(类胡萝卜素), which are known to protect against cell damage from pollution and UV rays, and can also prevent age-related diseases including heart disease and cancer. But while it was known eating extreme amounts of certain vegetables such as carrots could turn skin orange, it was not known a small increase was perceptible(被觉察) to others and was seen as appealing.A camera measured changes to the skin's redness, yellowness and lightness, and found it significantly changed in people who naturally increased their intake. These changes were not evident in three weeks. Using light sensors, the researchers showed these red and yellow hues were linked with the levels of carotenoids in their skin. There are hundreds of carotenoids but those thought to have the most dramatic effect are lycopene(番茄红素), which gives tomatoes and red peppers their red colour and beta-carotene, found in carrots as well as broccoli, squash and spinach. Skin colouris also affected by chemicals called polyphenols(多元酚), found in apples, blueberries and cherries, which cause blood rush to the skin surface.11.What do we know from the research?A.If you take in a little more fruit and vegetables, you will obviously look more attractive in three weeks.B.The researchers took the pictures of 35 people in the research at different stages. C.Increasing your intake of greens by 2.9 portions a day can greatly improve your health.D.People who increased their intake of greens by 3.3 portions a day were found the most attractive after six weeks.12.Which of the following is NOT the function of carotenoids?A.They can protect against cell damage from pollution and UV rays.B.They can prevent heart disease and cancer.C.They can prevent age-related diseases.D.They can keep you in good health.13.Which of the statements is NOT true according to the passage?A.We've already known eating extreme amounts of carrots can turn skin orange. B.We knew in the past that eating a few more carrots could make us look appealing. C.The research showed the improvement in skin is linked with the levels of carotenoids in it.D.Among hundreds of carotenoids, lycopene is thought to have the most dramatic effect on the skin.14.We can infer from the passage that ________.A.skin's redness, yellowness and lightness make a person look more healthy and attractiveB.carotenoids have the same effect as lycopeneC.it is carotenoids that give tomatoes and red peppers their red colour D.both beta-carotene and polyphenols affect skin colour by causing blood rush to the skin surface15.Which can be the best title of the passage?A.Eating fruit and vegetables does goodB.Fruit and vegetables are rich in carotenoidsC.How to become attractiveD.Eating fruit and vegetables makes you look goodBPhysical fitness refers to good health, and is the result of regular exercise, proper diet and nutrition, and proper rest for physical recovery. A person who is physically fit will be able to walk or run without getting breathless and he or she will be able to carry out the activities of everyday living and will not need help. How much each person can do will depend on their age and whether they are a man or woman.A physically fit person usually has a normal weight for height. The relation between height and weight is called the Body_Mass_Index. A taller person can be heavier and still be fit. If a person is too heavy or too thin for the height, it may affect the health.Mental health refers to a person's emotional and psychological well-bei ng. “A state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her thinking and emotional (feeling) abilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life.”One way to think about mental health is by looking at how well a person functions. Feeling capable and efficient, being able to handle normal levels of stress, having good friends and family, leading an independent life, being able to “bounce back” and recovering from hardships, are all signs of mental health.Public health refers to trying to stop a disease that is unhealthy to the community, and does not help in long life or promote your health. This is fixed by organized efforts and choices of society, public and private clubs, communities and individuals. It is about the health of many people, or everybody, rather than one person. Public health stops instead of encouraging a disease through surveillance(监督) of cases. To prevent being sick, it is good to do healthy behaviours, such as hand washing, vaccination programmes and so on. When infectious diseases break out, washing hands may be especially important.16.What is the best title of the passage?A.Physical, mental and public healthB.Something about healthC.Importance of healthD.Three healthy lives17.What does “Body Mass Index” in Paragraph 1 consist of?A.Exercise, proper diet and nutrition.B.Abilities, functions and demands.C.Recovery, independence and relation.D.Height, weight and their relation.18.What are the signs of mental health?A.Living an independent life and suffering from hardships.B.Reducing normal levels of stress and handling bounce back.C.Increasing emotional demands and psychological well-being.D.Living an independent life and owning good friends and family.19.Once bird flu takes place, that refers to ________.A.the problem of physical healthB.the problem of public healthC.the problem of mental healthD.the importance of washing hands20.What can promote your body health according to the passage?A.Family, society and individuals.B.Private clubs, communities and individuals.C.Regular exercise, proper diet and nutrition.D.Hand washing, vaccination and other healthy behaviours.Ⅲ.读写任务阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Unit 2 Healthy eatingⅠ.阅读理解A(2020·东北三省四市高考模拟) Until last year,Borris would never turn down a pork steak.By the time his owner,Annemarie Formoy, entered him in the PDSA Pet Fit Club petition,he was 28kg—almost double his remended weight. Thanks to a tailored sixmonth diet and exercise,he is now 7kg lighter.Borris,at his heaviest, was not alone. The worldwide rate of pet obesity(肥胖症) lies between 22% and 44%.The reasons are fairly predictable.Owners of overweight dogs feed them more snacks and table leftovers, are more likely to have their pets present as they prepare their own meals and are less likely to walk them daily.Owners of obese cats tend to use food as a reward and play with them less. But obesity also seems to be occurring even in some wild animals that aren't being overfed or underexercised. If these findings are true, something else must be driving obesity and uncovering those could help solve our own problems with the condition.“Labradors are consistently the headline act when it es to overweight dogs,”says Eleanor Raffan,a veterinarian and geneticist. She and fellow researchers discovered that a genetic mutation(基因变异) present in around a quarter of Labradors was associated with obesity. For each copy of the mutation—which occurred in a gene called POMC—a dog was about 2kg heavier. Most of the animals the researchers studied had one copy of the mutation, but fewer had two.“These are dogs always in the kitchen when owners are preparing food, sticking around scouring_a_titbit even if there's not much chance of getting food,or eating disgusting stuff on walks,” Raffan says.“But they're not doing that because it's fun. They're doing it because they're hungry.”That's because POMC mutations disturb the brain's function of controlling food intake and energy consumption. As a result, the behaviour of these Labradors beesvery foodmotivated.语篇解读全球宠物肥胖率在22%到44%之间,弄清楚宠物肥胖的原因对人类应对肥胖问题也很有启发。

Only one third of it was relevant to their work, the survey found. Information overload for whit ecollar workers has become a global issue. The huge amount of information has already affected their efficiency in management as well as their performance at work.Buried with emailsEvery morning, a secretary at the human resources department of an auto parts company opens her email box, only to find it crammed with at least 50 unread mails. For her, even scanning through these emails every day takes at least half an hour. Some of her colleagues are not so lucky—they have to read at least 100.Bothered with callsTelephone calls are also causing a problem. More than 40 percent whitecollar workers choose mobile phones as the preferred way to communicate important and urgent business matters. Talking saves time and energy over the clicking, reading and replying to emails, but phone calls are also more distracting(分心的). While answering a call, a clerk is likely to put away a much more important task at hand and start the business being talked about on the phone.Solution? Not yetMany companies start with providing staff with better computers, better Internet access and more advanced gadgets(小装置). For example, staff members above a certain level in one company will be provided with a blackberry phone for easier access to their emails. The company has also organized many lectures on efficien t ways of email management. Yet most whitecollar workers think their companies can do more.16.What does the new survey find ab out whitecollar workers?A.They spend 51 percent of their work time on meetings.B.Only half of the information they receive is useful.C.Over 60 percent of them prefer to use the telephone.D.Some of them have to read at least 100 emails every day.17.Telephone calls cause a problem because ________.A.they take up the time to receive and send emailsB.they are often not answeredC.they are mostly not about businessD.they may lead to change of work schedule18.How do some companies try to solve the problem of information overload?A.They start to give staff a pay rise.B.They plan to employ more people.C.They provide employees with more advanced equipment.D.They organize lectures on how to reduce stress.19.What is the major issue discussed in this text?A.Poor management leads to inefficiency at work.B.Junk mail is causing big trouble.C.Whitecollar workers suffer from information overload.D.Better computers are in need in workplaces.BScientists who try to predict earthquakes have gotten some new helpers recently—animals. That's right, animals. Scientists have begun to understand what farmers have known for thousands of years. Animals often seem to know in advance that an earthquake is coming, and they show their fear by acting in strange ways. Before a Chinese quake in 1975, snakes awoke from their winter sleep early only to freeze to death in the cold air. Cows broke their halters(缰绳) and tried to escape.Chickens refused to enter their cage. All of this unusual behavior, as well as physical changes in the earth, warned Chinese scientists of the coming quake. They moved people away from the danger zone and saved thousands of lives. One task for scientists today is to learn exactly which types of animal behavior predict quakes. It's not an easy job. First of all, not every animal reacts to the danger of an earthquake. Just before a California quake in 1977, for example, an Arabian horse became very nervous and tried to break out of his enclosure. The Australian horse next to him, however, remained perfectly calm. It's also difficult at times to tell the difference between normal animal restlessness and“earthquake nerves”.A zoo keeper once called earthquake researchers, saying that his cougar had been acting strangely. It turned out that the cat had an upset stomach.A second task for scientists is to find out exactly what kind of warnings the animals receive. They know that animals sense far more of the world than humans do. Many animals can see, hear, and smell things that people do not even notice. Some can sense tiny changes in air pressure, gravity, or the magnetism of the earth. This extra sense probably helps animals predict quakes.A good example of this occurred with a group of dogs. They were shut in an area that was being shaken by a series of tiny earthquakes.(Several small quakes often come before or after a large one.) Before each quake a low booming sound was heard. Each boom caused the dogs to bark wildly. Then the dogs began to bark during a silent period. A scientist who was recording quakes looked at his machine. It was acting as though there were a loud noise too. The scientist realized that the dogs had reacted to a booming noise. They also sensed the tiny quakes that followed it. The machine recorded both, though humans felt and heard nothing. In this case there was a machine to monitor what the dogs were sensing. Many times, however, our machines record nothing extraordinary, even though animals know a quake is coming. The animals might be sensing something we measure but do not recognize as a warning.Discovering what animals sense, and learning how they know it is a danger signal, is a job for future scientists.20.Through the passage the writer hopes to explore ________.A.why animals send a danger signal before an earthquakeB.how animals know when an earthquake is comingC.why animals not humans have a good sense of dangerD.how much animals know about an earthquake21.During an earthquake in China in 1975 ________.A.chickens refused to go out of their cageB.snakes were frozen to death in their cavesC.snakes awoke from their winter sleep earlierD.cows broke their halters and escaped from their sheds22.Which of the following is one of earthquake nerves according to the passage?A.An Arabian horse tried to escape from his enclosure.B.A cougar had an upset stomach unexpectedly.C.An Australian horse was perfectly calm.D.A cat acted very strangely in a zoo.23.The scientists did an experiment with a group of dogs to ________.A.find out that the machine could record unusual happeningsB.compare the reactions of animals with those of humansC.prove that animals could sense more than humansD.find out what exact warnings animals sendⅢ.短文填词Dear Jenny,In your letter, you asked me something about how to keep healthy. ill in bed and can't get up, we will be thankful for the nurse who helps us get clean. While I am not a nurse, and have never given anyone a bath, I would imagine that it would take a lot of sympathy and patience to do so.Yet those who attended the International Conference on Intelligence Robots and Systems Conference last month were introduced to Cody, a robot that can bathe human beings. The robot has a base that can be turned to all directions, two humanli ke arms, and flexible wrists (腕).It uses a camera and laser range finder to locate parts of the human body.It then uses bath gloves to clean with a little pressure. The robot was designed at the Georgia Institute of Technology.Charles Kemp of the Health Care Robotics Lab is the senior researcher for the project. In a test run, Cody was able to remove 96% of a test subject's dirt—not bad for a robot. But don't go asking for Cody for Cody yet—he's still a model.Yet researchers believe that one day Cody may take the place of nurses for this task.Researchers claim that Cody will afford patients increased private information.I suppose that would depend on the patient.Even so, I can appreciate the need.We don't have enough nurses to go around, and those places tha t are the most shorthanded, for example, nursing homes, are those that have the most patients who are unable to bathe themselves.Still, before I get there, I hope they think of a better way to solve the problem.11.The writer thinks bathing others must ________.A.bring you various health benefitsB.make you feel thankfulC.take you a lot of patienceD.make you feel Journal of Medicine. The researchers used information collected from 12,000 people. It was collected between 1972 and 2003 as part of the Framingham Heart Study. The information was highly detailed. There was even contact information for close friends of the people in the study. The researchers examined more than 40,000 social ties. They found that a person's chances of becoming severely overweight increased by 57% if a friend had become obese.A sister or brother of a person who became obese had a 40% increased chance of becoming obese. The risk for a wife or husband was a little less than that.Nicholas Christakis of Harvard Medical School was a lead researcher in the study. He says there is a direct causal relationship between a person getting fat and being followed in weight gain by a friend. The study found that the sex of the friends was also an influence. In sam esex friendship, a person had a 71% increased risk of becoming obese.Men had a 44% increased risk of becoming obese after weight gain in a brother. In sisters, it was 67%.The researchers also considered the effect of where people lived in relation to each other.James Fowler of the University of California was the other lead expert. He says a friend who lives a few hundred kilometres away has as much influence as one in the same neighbourhood. He says the study demonstrates the need to consider that a major part 2019-2020年高三英语一轮复习Unit2Healthyeating课时作业新人教版必修Ⅰ.阅读理解A(xx·银川检测)Crossing your legs is an extremely mon habit; most people don't even notice that they're doing it when they sit down. While you may find it fortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You won't feel any immediate effects, but repeated, drawnout increases in blood pressure can cause longterm health issues. So, planning to sit for a long period of time? Don't keep your legs crossed.“Crossing your legs at the knee can also cause pres sure on the major nerve in your leg that passes just below your knee and along the outside of your leg,” explains Richard Graves, a medical expert. This pressure can cause numbness and temporary paralysis (麻痹) of some of the muscles in your foot and leg, preventing you from being able to raise your ankle—what we know as that “pins_and_needles” sensation. While the feeling of disfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。

入舵市安恙阳光实验学校Unit 2 Healthy eatingⅠ.阅读理解ABiologist Robert Pitman and his colleagues tracked orcas,or killer whales, and humpback whales off the coast of Western Australia. To research further, the scientists attached a tracker to a female orca, which allowed them to use satellites to monitor her movements. They followed her for six days.During that time, the orca attacked eight young humpback whales.During the seven attacks, the orca killed the humpback whale calf (幼兽) on three occasions. But the story doesn't end there.Humpback whales themselves are popularly thought to be large but generally, passivecreatures.Pitman's study findings may let people think otherwise. When chased by orcas, humpback whales are known to try to outswim orcas. They are thought to do this at high speed so that the orcas can't keep up.On some occasions, the humpback whales sought out protection. They swam to shallow water, nearby reefs,or even under the researchers' boats. These ways often reduced the attack. But at other times, the humpback whales decided to stay and fight. As the orcas approached, the mother humpback would sometimes move her calf to her side,or lift it out of the water using her head or flippers. She also blew huge breaths of air to disturb the orcas, and lunged or charged at them, slashing(劈)and slapping her tail and flippers.Perhaps most surprisingly, humpback whales also have adult “escorts (护卫队)” that try to protect calves that are not their own, joining the mother in defending the smaller whale. These escort whales either charged at the orcas,or placed themselves between the attackers and calves, slashing their tails and flippers.Despite the efforts of the mother whales and escorts, the orcas were more often than not successful in their attacks. But the presence of the escorts did reduce how many times a whale calf was killed.[语篇解读] 本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是科学家使用科学仪器来观察鲸是如何追杀驼背鲸及后者是如何反击和保护幼小的驼背鲸的。

Ⅰ.阅读理解ABiologist Robert Pitman and his colleagues tracked orcas,or killer whales, and humpback whales off the coast of Western Australia. To research further, the scientists attached a tracker to a female orca, which allowed them to use satellites to monitor her movements. They followed her for six days.During that time, the orca attacked eight young humpback whales.During the seven attacks, the orca killed the humpback whale calf (幼兽) on three occasions. But the story doesn't end there.Humpback whales themselves are popularly thought to be large but generally, passive creatures.Pitman's study findings may let people think otherwise. But the presence of the escorts did reduce how many times a whale calf was killed.[语篇解读] 本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是科学家使用科学仪器来观察杀人鲸是如何追杀驼背鲸及后者是如何反击和保护幼小的驼背鲸的。

1.What's the purpose of the scientists' further research?A.To keep a record of whales' living habits.B.To observe orcas' hunting humpback whales.C.To see what lifeordeath battles whales may face.D.To find out the techniques orcas use when hunting.解析:细节理解题。

根据文章第一段中的“To research further...to use satellites to monitor her movements.Theyfollowed her for six days.During that time, the orca attacked eight young humpback whales...”可知,科学家进行进一步研究的目的是观察杀人鲸追杀驼背鲸的活动。

故选B。

答案:B2.Why did the humpback whales swim to shallow water?A.To avoid being attacked.B.To hunt for food.C.To protect their young.D.To trick the chasers.解析:细节理解题。

根据文章第三段中的“On some occasions, the humpback whales sought out protection. They swam to shallow water, nearby reefs,or even under the researchers' boats.”可知,驼背鲸游至浅水区是出于自身的安全考虑,为了避免被攻击。

故选A。

答案:A3.What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 4?A.Why humpback whales fall victim to orcas.B.How humpback whales protect their calves.C.The great mother love of humpback whales.D.Smaller humpback whales' ways of surviving.解析:段落大意题。

根据第四段的内容可知,本段主要讲的是在面对杀人鲸的攻击时,驼背鲸是如何进行反击来保护自己的幼崽的。

故B项最能概括本段的主旨要义。

答案:B4.What does Pitman's study find?A.Orcas are successful in their attacks.B.It's not easy for orcas to obtain food.C.Humpback whales swim faster than orcas.D.Humpback whales could be active animals.解析:推理判断题。

第二段提到“Humpback whales themselves are popularly thought to be large but generally, passive creatures.Pitman's study findings may let people think otherwise.”,驼背鲸一般被认为是大型的但是通常被动的生物,Pitman的研究发现可能会让人不这么认为。

下文接着讲了面对杀人鲸的攻击时,驼背鲸所采取的一些应对方式,其中包含积极迎击。

故选D。

答案:DBHowever,in recent years, opera has been facing serious challenges. One current challenge to opera is economics. The shortage of money raises the broader question of how much should be paid to support opera singers and other artists.Society seems to accept the large salaries paid to business managers and the multimilliondollar contracts given to sports athletes. But what about opera singers? Somehow, people have the idea that artists can be creative only if they suffer in poverty, but this is unrealistic. If artists, including opera singers, lack the support they need, valuable talent is wasted.Another problem faced by opera is how to meet the demands of audiences who are influenced by popular entertainment.Pop singers are often judged as much on the basis of how they look as how they sound. These demands may be unrealistic and possibly harmful.Opera singers simply cannot make a sound big enough to fill a large theater or concert hall without a microphone if their body weight is too low.Emphasizing physical appearance over singing ability may cause audiences to miss out on the human voice at its best. There are no easy solutions to opera's problems and there are many different opinions about the value of opera. However, every year many young people register for music courses with hopes and dreams of developing their talent in this special art form. The fact that opera has survived many obstacles and continues to attract the rising generation shows that it remains a respectable art form full of value.[语篇解读] 本文主要讨论了歌剧所面临的挑战和困难。
