Outside job experience is extremely useful for children who will one day assume control. Working outside the family business can give them valuable experience, expose them to differing management styles and give them the confidence to know that their successes are their own. Often they will receive better mentoring and more opportunities to take responsibility than they would in the family business. Proving themselves outside the family business also gives children greater credibility with employees when they do eventually take control of the family business.4. Dr. E. James Anthony is professor of child psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine and co-author of ―Parenthood, Its Psychology andPsychopa thology.‖ In a recent conversation Dr. Anthony said,‖ Many people I’ve talked to are very concerned about their own future and the future of children in this rather troubled world. In the past there was always a feeling implicit in the culture that parenthood was something very significant, attractive, enriching and creative. Now it seems to be going by the board. People with skill in social relations admit their mistakes and take their share of blame, which is a mature and responsi ble way to handle an error. That’s why many mediocre employees survive violent corporate upheavals while people of great talent are being laid off. Because they are sensitive in their dealings with others, they are well liked everywhere. People with poor interpersonal skills have trouble taking criticism. When confronted with a mistake they let their ego get in the way. They deny responsibility and became moody or angry. They mark themselves as ―prickly‖ with whom people feel it hard to get along well.6.Among all the important skills of human beings, social skills are regarded as themost important. In an information age, communication with others in all walks of life plays an important role. No wonder that many students are deliberately working on their social skills. Common sense has told us that those who have successful love affairs usually possess excellent social skills. They are good at promoting an easy-going relation with their partners, which naturally result in a romantic affair. The same is true for family life. Good social skills are essential to keep family member on good terms with each other, bringing about a happy family life. Moreover, statistics show that one’s career success depends heavily on his or her social skills.。
