主要用于合成头孢类抗生素的成盐剂，高分子材料的交联剂，塑料制品的热稳定剂 ， 聚合反应的催化剂，润滑油及燃料油的添加剂。在聚酯树脂系聚合过程中，促进钴皂催化， 有效减少钴用量；还可以用于制染料、香料、防腐剂等。
