As a Korean student, I performed a Chinese ethnic dance. Everyone wondered why, and my parents asked me, “Why didn’t you perform ballet or traditional Korean dance?” Well, this story began when I was 5 years old. At that time, my family moved to Dalian, Liaoning. To develop a special skill, I explored various after-school classes. Among all the options available to me, Chinese dance attracted me the most. The nice dance studio and beautiful costumes all seemed to call out to me, making me eager to try everything.Learning Chinese dance was indeed challenging, especially when I was practicing the basics, which require a high level of physical flexibility, strength and accuracy. For example, practicing complicated steps repeatedly to achieve accuracy and coordination(协调)can be tiring. However, the moment I mastered a dance routine and performed it onstage, I felt incredibly confident and joyful. Later, I had to return to Korea for school and say goodbye to Chinese dance. After I turned 15, I happened to meet a Chinese dance teacher who had opened a studio in Korea. Without doubt, I signed up in her classes. Although I struggled with some of the difficult dance moves due to the long break, my passion for Chinese dance remained unchanged. Seeing myself in the dance costume again in front of the mirror, I felt like I had regained the unique confidence I had 10 years ago.In February, I decided to participate in the Dance World Cup and perform a Chinese ethnicdance. I won the gold medal in the competition’s world ethnic dance category. Through this competition, my love for Chinese dance grew even stronger, and I was delighted to show Chinese culture to a broader Korean audience.4.What did the author’s parents think about her choice of dance?A.Wonderful.B.Acceptable.C.Inspiring.D.Surprising. 5.What’s the author’s difficulty in learning Chinese dance?A.Lacking confidence on stage.B.Adapting to the life routine in China.C.Meeting high standards of the basics.D.Having too many after-school classes. 6.Why did the author return to Chinese dance?A.To open a dance studio in Korea.B.For her love for Chinese dance.C.To win a medal in the competition.D.For the popularity of Chinese culture. 7.What can be the best title for the text?A.Embracing Chinese Culture in Dance B.Performing on a Worldwide StageC.Exchanges Between China and Korea D.Ups and Downs of Chinese DancesChildren do not laugh for joy. Scientific studies, including my own, show that there is something much deeper than joy in a child’s laughter. I find that it is closely connected to brain and personality development: children laugh for very different reasons at different stages of development.Laughter begins soon after birth. Babies learn to laugh because they want to copy their parents expressions, and to receive attention and praise from them. This is the way babies learn everything at first: through copying and receiving attention and praise of adults around them. But as they grow, they learn to distinguish their own person from their parents and the world around them. Once they begin to behave on their own — from age 2 to 5 — they begin to feel something new for the first time: certain things may seem cold, strange, or out of place, and this shocks, confuses and amazes them. This is where laughter comes in: after a moment of hesitation, they understand that what seemed frightening or unexpected is actually harmless. For instance, a child laughs when they see their father with a funny clown nose. Why? Because for a second they felt embarrassed: that nose is not a “live” nose. When they understand it was just dad’s joke, they calm down and laugh. They may also laugh when their older brothermakes a silly face, and the process is the same. From age 5 or 6 and up, children learn to handle abstract (抽象的) ideas, meaning they can grasp and “get” jokes. Before that, they are at the earlier stage of being self-centered, which hinders their understanding of others’ reasoning. But once they overcome it, their laughter process is the same as that of adults. These three stages of laughter development are good indicators of child’s mental growth and development.8.Why do babies laugh soon after birth?A.They are expressing their happiness.B.They are showing their personality.C.They are learning their parents’ behavior.D.They are giving praise to their parents. 9.What’s the babies’ mental process of laughing from age 2 to 5?A.They feel amazed, understand and laugh.B.They feel harmless, hesitate and laugh.C.They hesitate, feel frightened and laugh.D.They understand, feel shocked and laugh. 10.Why does the author mention the father and the brother in paragraph 4?A.To give examples.B.To provide methods.C.To make comparisons.D.To offer suggestions.11.What does the underlined word “hinders” in paragraph 5 mean?A.Forms.B.Deepens.C.Reflects.D.Prevents.Wake up energetically at 6 am, exercise for over an hour after freshening up, and study productively throughout the day. This daily schedule is frequently featured in vlogs on social media with the theme of “self-discipline (自律)”.But when trying out such a schedule, many of us may feel lacking in energy. Is it just because we are lazy? Why do some people seem to have so much energy? There’s a whole lot you can explore about your energy levels.Genetic differences, to start with, can significantly influence our energy levels. A tiny part in our DNA called SNPs can help to explain 8.4 percent of cases of feeling tired, according to a 2018 study. The food you eat also gives you energy. However, there’s an often-forgotten element —vitamin D.A study published in 2019 in the journal Nutrients noted that older adults withreduced vitamin D levels experienced state of being tired more than those with normal levels. You can get enough amount of it by sunbathing or having enough vitamin-D-rich foods, such as fish, eggs and milk.Another analysis published in Nutrients in 2020 found that eating foods high in a certain fat is linked to too much daytime sleepiness. These foods probably include some of your favorites: butter, cheese, ice cream, and fried foods.Even if a workout leaves you in sweat and out of breath, exercise can actually increase your energy. ”When you exercise, you release hormones (激素),” US expert Sabrena Jo told the Health website. “This hormone actually tells our bodies to forget feelings of pain and tiredness while helping blood flow to large muscles.” This “excitement” in your body can last for several hours. Exercise helps, but only to a point. Those who exercise too frequently may experience negative impacts on their energy levels.12.What affects our energy levels according to the 2018 study?A.Self-discipline.B.The daily schedule.C.Productive study.D.A certain part of DNA.13.What did the study in 2019 find?A.Vitamin D is a major energy source.B.People feel sleepy due to a certain fat.C.Vitamin D levels is related to energy levels.D.People often forget to have Vitamin D.14.What can we learn from the last paragraph?A.The more exercise, the better.B.Sweat has negative impacts on energy levels.C.Adjusting breath rate releases hormones.D.Proper exercise reduces feeling of tiredness. 15.What does the text mainly talk about?A.Ways to improve energy levels.B.Elements influencing energy levels.C.Balanced nutrients in daily foods.D.Genetic differences benefiting our health. How to Get into CollegeThe college admission world can be mysterious. In many-even most-space-themed films, whenever Earth faces a disaster(灾难), the 1 is always running away from the planet in spaceships. But the latest Chinese sci-fi movie, The Wandering Earth, offers a different and more ambitious idea. In the film, based on a short story by Chinese sci-fi writer Liu Cixin, Earth is in danger of being destroyed by the dying sun. In reply, humans around the world work 2 to build a huge engine system that will push Earth away from the dying sun. 3 giving up Earth-again-this time we're taking it with us.This "ambition" didn't come from nowhere. For thousands of years," homeland" has had a soft point in 4 of Chinese people. 高中英语外刊英国卫报改编完形填空【含答案解析】
外刊英国卫报改编完形填空1Reading ComprehensionDirections:For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A.B C and D.Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.Stephen Hawking remembered by Bernard Carr8January 1942-14 March 2018 The physicist 's former research student recalls their close relationship at Cambridge, the sheer might of his intellect, and how he once bored the great man to sleepStephen was not so famous when I began my PhD at Cambridge in 1972,but his brilliance was already clear to his peers and I found it rather daunting when,on becoming his research student,I was informed by one of my tutors that he was the brightest person in the department.(1) ,it soon became(2) that my relationship with him would not be the usual type of supervisor-student relationship. In those days, before he had his entourage of nurses and assistants, students would necessarily have to help him in various ways (3) his disability. This was not an arduous task, but it did mean that my relationship with him became quite (4) . Indeed,I shared an office with him, lived with his family for a while and (5) him as he travelled around the world, giving talks and collecting medals.I soon discovered some of Stephen's singular (6) .The first,of course, was that he was very smart.Students are probably always in awe of their (7) and with Stephen the awe was even greater.Indeed,on matters of physics,I always regarded him as an oracle, just a few words from him yielding(产生)insights that would have taken weeks to (8) on my own. However,Stephen was only human and not all encounters led to illumination.Once I asked a question about something that was (9) me.He thought about it silently for several minutes and I was quite (10) with myself for asking something that Stephen couldn't answer immediately. His eyes then closed and I was even more impressed with myself because he wasclearly having to think about it very deeply.Only after some time did it become clear that he had fallen asleep.Nowadays,I also sometimes fall asleep while talking to students,so I recall this incident with amusement. The other human side of Stephen is that he didn't suffer fools gladly and sometimes got annoyed. One of the stories put around is that he would vent his frustration by running over students 'toes.I'm not sure about that-he once ran over the toes of the Prince of Wales, and I'm sure that was just an accident. On the other hand,I well recall one occasion when I made a remark in the departmental common room at tea time that showed I had misunderstood what he'd been saying.Stephen screamed “No!"so loudly that his wheelchair shot back halfway across the room under the recoil.I was most impressed that a single word from him could have such (11) consequences.I also learned about Stephen's stubbornness and determination to continue doing things for himself as long as possible, despite the relentless progress of his illness. For example, because he had an office in both the department of applied mathematics and theoretical physics and the Institute of Astronomy at Cambridge,I also had offices in both places.I recall that he sometimes gave me a lift(probably illegally!)between the two places in his three-wheeled invalid car.I found this rather (12) because I thought he drove faster than was ter,he had to discontinue the use of the car but he never lost his drive and the desire to travel as far and wide as possible. One regret is he didn't live long enough to achieve his dream of going into space.I'm often asked where Stephen stands in the pantheon(名流群)of great physicists. There are many ways of being a great physicist and they cannot be (13) like runners in an Olympic race.Stephen himself never (14) to have the status of Newton or Einstein, but I strongly disagree with people who suggest that his scientific contributions have been (15) because of his iconic status. His disability was clearly a factor in his becoming so famous, but I doubt any other (16) physicist will achieve the accolade of being interred next to Isaac Newton in Westminster Abbey.Stephen died on Einstein's birthday and was born on the date of Galileo's death,so it's (17) that he should be connected to his two greatest heroes in this way.I doubt Stephen would haveattributed much significance to this, but he would certainly (18) that we don't understand the mystery of time.In any case, the synchronicity is fitting because his first major discovery was that spacetime trajectories can have singular endpoints where strange things may happen.Stephen was the most (19) person I have ever known and I feel truly (20) that he was my friend.1.A.Otherwise B.Nevertheless C.Moreover D.Therefore2.A.worldwide B.popular C.evident D.neutral3.A.in process of B.on account of C.in possession of D.accounting for4.A.familiar B.acquainted C.intimate D.related5.A.accompanied B.served C.treated D.entertained6.A.habits B.habitats C.tempers D.characteristics7.A.supervisors B.inspectors C.tutors D.conductors8.A.work out B.pick out C.put out y out9.A.bothering B.puzzling C.disordering D.suffering10 A.satisfied B.delighted C.impressed D.amused11 A.distant B.dramatic C.remote D.distinct12 A.fairy B.chilly C.scary D.nasty13 A.leveled B.classified C.ranked D.awarded14 A.claimed B.appealed C.fastened D.applied15 A.outnumbered B.emphasized C.outlined D.exaggerated16 A.optimistically B.potentially C.positively D.contemporary17 A.magic B.odd C.mysterious D.procedure18 A.overtake B.promote C.confess D.acknowledge19 A.singular B.strange C.single D.simple20 A.enjoyable B.grateful C.privileged D.rewarding【答案】BCBCA DAABC BCCAD DBDAC【解析】1,根据前面一句中,我的其他导师告诉我Stephen是整个部门里最耀眼的人,后面说很快我和Stephen的关系不是一般的导师和学生之间的关系可知,作者虽然认为Stephen聪明耀眼,但是与自己关系密切,所以用让步比较合适,答案选B.2,由本段后文中可推出,我和Stephen关系密切是很明显的。

2013年考研英语完形填空原文及全文翻译
2013年考研英语一完型填空原文出自《The Economist》Jun 16th 2012原文题目:A question of judgmentA NEVER-ENDING flow of information is the lot of most professionals. Whether it comes in the form of lawyers’cases, doctors’patients or even journalists’stories, this information naturally gets broken up into pieces that can be tackled one at a time during the course of a given day. In theory, a decision made when handling one of these pieces should not have much, if any, impact on similar but unrelated subsequent decisions. Yet Uri Simonsohn of the University of Pennsylvaniaand Francesca Gino at Harvard report in Psychological Science that this is not how things work out in practice.Dr Simonsohn and Dr Gino knew from studies done in other laboratories that people are, on the whole, poor at considering background information when making individual decisions. At first glance this might seem like a strength that grants the ability to make judgments which are unbiased by external factors. But in a world of quotas and limits—in other words, the world in which most professional people operate—the two researchers suspected that it was actually a weakness. They speculated that an inability to consider the big picture was leading decision-makers to be biased by the daily samples of information they were working with. For example, they theorised that a judge fearful of appearing too soft on crime might be more likely to send someone to prison if he had already sentenced five or six other defendants only to probation on that day.To test this idea, they turned their attention to the university-admissions process. Admissions officers interview hundreds of applicants every year, at a rate of 4½a day, and can offer entry to about 40% of them. In theory, the success of an applicant should not depend on the few others chosen randomly for interview during the same day, but Dr Simonsohn and Dr Gino suspected the truth was otherwise. They studied the results of 9,323 MBA interviews conducted by 31 admissions officers. The interviewers had rated applicants on a scale of one to five. This scale took numerous factors, including communication skills, personal drive, team-working ability and personal accomplishments, into consideration. The scores from this rating were then used in conjunction with an applicant’s score on the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMA T, a standardised exam which is marked out of 800 points, to make a decision on whether to accept him or her.Dr Simonsohn and Dr Gino discovered that their hunch was right. If the score of the previous candidate in a daily series of interviewees was 0.75 points or more higher than that of the one before that, then the score for the next applicant would drop by an average of 0.075 points. This might sound small, but to undo the effects of such a decrease a candidate would need 30 more GMAT points than would otherwise have been necessary. As for why people behave this way, Dr Simonsohn proposes that after accepting a number of strong candidates, interviewers might form the illogical expectation that a weaker candidate “is due”. Alternatively, he suggests that interviewers may be engaging in mental accounting that simplifies the task of maintaining a given long-term acceptance rate, by trying to apply this rate to each daily group of candidates. Regardless of the reason, if this sort of thinking proves to have a similar effect on the judgments of those in other fields, such as law and medicine, it could be responsible for far worse things than the rejection of qualified business-school candidates.中文翻译西蒙森博士和吉诺博士从其他实验室的研究中得知,总体而言,当人们自己做决定时,并不擅长考虑背景信息。

Many more are simply thrown out with the rubbish. Finally, some companies are thinking of ways to bring down the number of old computers. Sony has agreed to help recycle old Sony products (产品). Dell, Hewlett-Packard and other companies now also take back some old computers. In some countries, laws are being passed, too. Computer companies will have to pay for collecting and recycling their used products. And 70% of computer waste must be recycled. The idea behind the laws is that computer companies themselves should pay the cost. That will encourage them to make computers that are easier and cheaper to repair and upgrade (升级).Yet while many people are throwing away good computers, others can’t afford them at all. Hundreds of organizations (组织) are working to solve this problem. They collect and repair old computers. Some also teach others how to pair computers. The computers then go to schools, charities (慈养机构) and people who need them. Giving a used computer to one of these organizations can turn one person’s rubbish into someone else useful things and cut down in waste, too.36.What do many people do with old computer?A.They lend them to others.B.They stop using them.C.They sell them.D.They repair them37.How many computer waste must be recycled in the passage?A.50%B.61%C.70%D.77%. 38.According to the laws in some countries, companies must ________.A.make more cheaper computers B.collect all their used productsC.recycle most of their product D.repair and upgrade old computers 39.What do the organizations do to solve the problem of old computer?A.Help people to learn to use them.B.Turn rubbish into useful things.C.Help the computer companies to collect them.D.Repair and send them to these who need them.40.What is the main idea of this passage?A.Helping these who need computers.B.Encouraging to make cheap computers.C.Recycling old computers.D.Repairing old computers.DNA is the whole “map” of the human body. It is something that all humans have, and it tells the body what to do. DNA is the reason that we look like our parents, because we get some of their DNA to make our own.People have been trying to understand the human body for a long time. In 1860, Mr Mendel discovered why we look the same as other people in our family. It is because of small things called “genes” (基因) in our body. In 1953, two scientists, Watson and Crick, found out that those small parts are really messages. They’re written in the DNA with a special language. In 1961, another two scientists found the first “word” that they could understand in that language. It shows how DNA tells the cell (细胞) to build its parts. So far, scientists have found all the words in the DNA map, but we still do not understand what they all do. By understanding what just one “word” means, we can help to save people from several illnesses. So the more we understand, the more doctors will be able to do.Most people hope that this will help to make better medicine and help sick people. Other people worry that when we learn more “words” and find out more information, we will use it in the wrong way, just to make people more attractive (有吸引力的), or stop sick people getting jobs.41.In 1860, Mr Mendel discovered ________.A.map B.cell C.DNA D.genes42.In 1961, two scientists found ________.50.What makes Chinese sci-fi stand out?A.Superhero unfold a proton and put machine parts into it.B.Showing how to work together to overcome our biggest challenges.C.One person saves the world.D.It is touching and covers one aspect.四、填写适当的单词补全对话五、短文选词填空六、阅读回答问题根据短文内容,回答问候所给出的问题,并按要求将答案填写在答题卡相应的位置上。
