Giraffe is an animal with a very long neck, four legs and orange skin with dark spots.

Anthropology is the scientific study of man.

What is plagiarism? It is using others’ ideas and words without clearly mentioning where the information is from.

Second generation Puerto Ricans who were born in New York but who have returned to the island, are called Nuvoricans.

With their shining brown eyes ,wagging tails ,and unconditional love ,dogs can provide the nonjudgemental listeners needed for a beginning reader to gain confidence.(NMET2003,B篇)初看起来,unconditionnal和nonjudgemental非常生疏,细心观察,前者是condition加前缀un ,加后缀al而成,那就是“无条件的、绝对的”,后者是judge 加前缀non,加后缀ment,再加后缀al而成的,其意思一定是:没有判断力的。

NMET95阅读理解A篇中的external fat (fat under the skin)和internal fat ( fat inside the body wall ) 就是采用英语释义法,考查学生直接用英语思维的能力。

在They are vertebrates, that is, animals that have back bones.

文章中的代词it,that,this,he,him 或them等可以指上文提到的人或物,其中it和that还可以指一件事。

1】Rather unsurprisingly, a massive 77 percent of the people surveyed admitted to being obsessed with regularly taking selfies. What was more interesting, though, was the fact that an astonishing 82 percent of people said that they would rather see other selfies on social media.Diefenbach calls this the “selfies paradox”: the idea that we like taking selfies but seriously dislike looking at other people’s selfies online.41.

2.B workout是一个复合名词,它是由短语动词work out转换来的名词,短语动词work out用作及物动词性质,含有“解决, 设计出,计算出”,用作不及物性质,表示“锻炼,消耗完”,而名词workout也应该具有这些含义,根据单词所在句意分析可知这里表示“锻炼”,类似构成形式还有如break through→breakthrough(突破),break out→breakout(爆发),take off→takeoff(起飞), come in→income(收入),put out→output(输出,产出),stand out→outstanding(出类拔萃的,杰出的)等。

3.A vertebrates的含义,就可以根据后面which means these animals have a bony skeleton to surpport their bodies句子来分析理解其含义为“脊椎动物”因此答案选A项。

4.D spontaneous的含义可以根据该单词后面rather than planned in advance分析spontaneous与planned in advance相反,表示“没被计划过的,没有预先计划安排的” 因此答案选D项。

6.A netgain 含义可以通过上下文内容中所提供的线索和暗示来判断,前面提到的lost one million jobs and gained three million jobs以及the state had a net gain of two million jobs句意分析可知其含义为“净增加”。

有时文章借助关联词(如 because, as, since, for, so, thus, as a result, of course, therefore 等)表示前因后果。例如:
You shouldn’t have blamed him for that, for it wasn’t his fault.
Man
Bananas, oranges, pineapples, coconuts and some other kind of fruit grow in warm areas.
has known something about the planets Venus, Mars, and Jupiter with the help of spaceships.

有时文章借助关联词(如because,as,since,for,so,thus,as a result,of course,therefore等等)表示前因后果。

例如:You shouldn’t have blamed him for that,for it wasn’t his fault.

Man has known something about the planets Venus,Mars, and Jupiter with the help of spaceships.

He is so homely, not at all as handsome as his brother.根据not at all...handsome我们不难推测出homely的意思,即不英俊、不漂亮的意思。
