英语中的猜词技巧
1.利用同义词猜词
① The old woman has a strange habit to keep over 100 cats in her house. Her neighbors all called her an eccentric lady. ② Large chunks of ice and snow melt very slowly. Once they begin to thaw, several weeks of warm weather may be required before they are totally dissolved.
2.利用反义词猜词
① In many nations there are two financial extremes, from penury to great wealth. ② Our spacious house has more advantages than our overcrowded apartment. ③ Mrs. Smith is loquacious while her husband is the silent type.
3.利用文意猜词
① Scientists grow large quantities of common mould so that they can get penicillin from it in order to make antibiotics, that is, substances that kill germs. ② There are some glaciers moving down the mountain valleys. A glacier is a river of ice. ③ Should the government regulate the cost of resources such as oil and gas ? Some people do not believe that government control is the solution to the problem of rising cost of fuel.
7.利用相关词语或句式猜词
阅读时可利用:
that is( i.e.), namely , such as, for example (instance), or, in other words...及 ,which... 等句式猜词。
8.Hale Waihona Puke Baidu用自身经验猜词
E.g. : Many people from Hunan or Sichuan like to eat hot peppers.
4.利用词缀猜词
如: selfish, unselfishness, sleeplessness, restlessness, antifreeze - ity --n : possibility ,ability, responsibility, personality, disability, reality, equality, creativity, productivity, similarity, familiarity, popularity ... kilo- "千" : kilometer , kilogram, kilowatt, kilovolt, kilocycle, kilocurie, kilohertz ... uni-" 单一的" :unicycle, unilateral ... ; bi- "双的" :bicycle, bilateral ... ; tri-"三的" :tricycle, triangle ...
6.利用标点猜词
英语中“ , ” ； “ : ”； “—— ”； " ( )" 等 常表示对上文的解释, 因此,阅读时可利用标 点猜词。 ① Linguistics, the science of languages, is a difficult subject. ② Statics, a branch of knowledge dealing with bodies remaining at rest.... ③ Dynamics, a branch of physics dealing with matter in motion...
5.利用词义的转折猜词
E.g.:
This boy is not stupid, on the contrary, no one could be more intelligent. 表示转折的连词、副词或短语有：though, although, still, but, however, instead, nevertheless, etc.
