走进中考(苏州·2010)Why do you think people who live in some hot countries eat very spicy(辛辣的) food? Is it because the spices make the food taste better? Is it just because their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents liked hot food,or is there some connection between spices and healthy food?Researchers from Cornell University think that it is because spice plants have some important chemicals(化学物质).These chemicals can kill bacteria(细菌) which spoil food."Most common spices can kill 75 to 100 percent of the bacteria in food," explains one of the scientists. The bacteria grow more easily and spoil food more quickly at higher temperatures. For this reason,it is more difficult to keep food from spoiling in hot climates.Do you like your food spicy? Your answer probably tells something about the country you come from.If you like spicy food,it is possible that hundreds of years ago, when there were no fridges, people in your country started using spices to keepthe food from spoiling. The traditional spicy dishes helped those people to live longer, healthier lives.Today,in a time of fridges, the spices just make the food taste good.阅读短文,根据短文内容选择最佳答案。

Other commonly used ingredients include maize, peanuts, millet, wheat, oat, and a distinct type of vinegar. Quick fried, stir fried, stewed and braised items are among the more than thirty cooking techniques of Shandong cuisine.GuangdongAuthentic Cantonese cuisine is among the most adventurous in China in terms of variety of ingredients as the Cantonese are famous, even among the Chinese, for their extremely wide definition of what is considered edible (可食用的).Sauces, like hoisin, oyster sauce, sweet and sour sauce are predominant in Cantonese cuisine which produces light, sweet, tender and crisp dishes.SichuanSaying Sichuan cuisine is hot and spicy is an understatement. Mouth numbing (麻嘴的)and sweat inducing, one can easily become addicted to the Sichuan peppercorns and dry peppers. Also sweat inducing but in a different way is the Sichuan (as well as Chongqing) hotpot — perfect for the winter yet beloved by locals in the summer. The uniqueness of its cuisine also resides in its two cooking methods, the dry braising (焖)and the dry stewing.HuaiyangConsidered a sub regional style of the Jiangsu region, which also claims Shanghai and Hangzhou cuisine as descendants, Huaiyang cuisine is renowned for the delicateness of the dishes as well as the liberal use of sugar. Chefs of Huaiyang cuisine are more concerned with the presentation of the dishes as opposed to the “large plate contains everything “ mentality typical of northern Chinese cuisine.Representative dishes include tofu noodles, Beggar's Chicken, congee, Yangzhou fried rice and braised meatballs. 专项训练八饮食、卫生与健康时间:8~10分钟/篇分值:2分/小题Passage 1(2016天津)Many people travel to different places in the world by air. Usually it takes a long time, perhaps half a day, for passengers to stay in the plane. So airlines(航空公司) offer passengers food. But it is common that they feel bad about food taste. Do you agree? To solve this problem, airlines try hard to improve their food. They would like to do so because they don't want to lose customers. However, according to scientific research, part of the reason why plane food tastes bad is that at high altitude(海拔) we can not taste things as well as we do on the ground. Also scientists have found that our noses become very dry even before a plane takes off. As the plane moves up, the change in air pressure(气压) reduces one third of the sensibility(感觉) of our taste buds(味蕾). So our taste buds become senseless. 中考英语阅读理解专项训练---饮食、卫生与健康
中考英语阅读理解专项训练---饮食、卫生与健康Passage 1Many people travel to different places in the world by air. The sad fact, however, is that our noses don't know it.All of these help explain why food on the plane tastes so bad. They also help explain why airlines choose to offer passengers salty and spicy(辛辣的) food. Without doing so, the food would be tasteless. Now there are many researches on this. According to one of them, some volunteers are asked to lie with their feet higher than their heads for weeks. And scientists write down their feelings about food taste.Though scientists try their best, it is not as easy as they thought. Because they can't deal with the special environment successfully, such as the change in air pressure, making food taste good is still hard for them.()1. The Change in Air PressurePassage 2It seems that school children all over the world complain(抱怨)about their school food. What do students of your age eat for lunch at school in other countries?JapanHigh schools have dining rooms. They serve everything from noodles to rice, but not burgers and chips. Other children bring food from home, such as cold rice balls, meat or fish, pickles(泡菜)and vegetables. Twice a year parents are invited to have a taste of the food.United StatesA typical menu from a US school is made up of a hamburger with fried potatoes or roast chicken, lettuce and pickles, fruit and cookies. School lunches must also provide at least one third of the daily amount(总量)of necessary nutrition(营养),such as, vitamin A, vitamin C and calcium(钙).AustraliaMeat pies, sausage rolls(香肠卷)and hotdogs are all traditional dishes in Australian school shops. But as the country pays more attention to children's health, healthier foods have started to appear on school menus. Many schools have used a traffic light system. The sale of red labeled(标注)foods, including cookies, chocolate and soft drinks, is served only twice a week. Healthier green labeled foods such as sushi, sandwiches, corn and watermelons, however, are available every day.South AfricaMost of South African schools do not serve meals at all. Classes end at 1:30 p.m. and students get their own lunches. Many students bring food from home, usually sandwiches.Fast food and fried food sell the best among students. As a result, it has caused a rise in obesity(肥胖)among children. But as more people began to realize that being too fat may cause different kinds of serious illnesses, some schools in towns have led the way towards better nutrition. But she knew she was right. In protest,_Hadjara refused to eat dinner that night. After her father questioned Hadjara's head teacher, he understood the importance of hand-washing and his daughter's intentions(目的). They found that children whose families hand-washed the dishes instead of using a machine had less allergies(过敏).Earlier research has shown that dishes washed by machines are cleaner than those washed by hand. So why would kids who eat with a little dirtier plates be better at stopping allergies? One explanation is depended on an idea known as the "hygiene hypothesis (卫生假说)". Here are some tips to help you make a healthy sleeping.Make sure your bedroom is only for sleeping. Take the television, computer and radio out of the bedroom. Keeping them in your room will only distract(分心) you.If you don't fall asleep right away, don't just look at the clock and think when you will. Get up and move to another room and read until you start feeling sleepy. Then go back to your room to go back to bed.Don't drink coffee or wine. Coffee may make you wake up in the morning and wine before you go to sleep may make you sleepy. But neither helps your body to wake up or fall asleep naturally(正常地). AHealthy eating doesn't just mean what you eat, but how you eat. Here is some advice on healthy eating.Eat with others. It can help you to see others' healthy eating habits. If you usually eat with your parents, you will find that the food you eat is more delicious.Listen to your body. Ask yourself if you are really hungry. Have a glass of water to see if you are thirsty—sometimes you are just thirsty, you need no food. Stop eating before you feel full.Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. After you don't eat for the past ten hours, your body needs food to get you going. You will be smarter after eating breakfast.Eat healthy snacks like fruits, yogurt or cheese. We all need snacks sometimes. In fact, it's a good idea to eat two healthy snacks between your three meals This doesn't mean that you can eat a bag of chips instead of a meal.Don't eat dinner late. With our busy life, we always put off eating dinner until the last minute. Try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed. This will give your body a chance to digest most of the food before you rest for the next 8-10 hours.BYou may not have heard the words "freshman fifteen" before, but they are important for students who are entering university.
