Call some students to do other actions, then have some pairs ask
and answer. Explain the structure of the present continuous tense.
Step 2 Presentation
Show a picture of playing basketball and ask:
T: What is the boy doing?
S: He is playing basketball.
Then say: if the action happened at this time yesterday. How can
we talk about it?
Help students say: what was the boy doing at this time yesterday?
T: What was the boy doing at this time yesterday?
S: He was playing basketball.
Explain the usage and the structure of the past progressive tense:
Was/were + v.-ing Show the pictures of doing the homework, reading, going to work, waiting for the bus and shopping. Have students work in pairs , let them ask and anwers. Step 3 Presentation Show a picture about rainstorm and talk about it with students. T: What was the weather like? S: It was raining heavily. T:Yes, it was a rainstorm. Look at these people. Where were they and what wewe they doing at he time of th rainstorm? Ask them to talk about it . Then ask some students to answer the questions. Have students read the instruction in 1a and match the statements with the people in the picture. Check the answers in class. Step 4 Listening Practice Have students read the phrases in 1b and the question the TV reporter asked aloud. Ask them to listen to the tape and circle the correct responses in the conversation. Check the answers. Step 5 Practice Let students work in group of four. One is the reporter, and others are the people in picure a, b , c,d. Then ask them to think about what their family were doing at the time of the rainstorm and make their own conversations with their partners, Call several pairs to act out their conversations in class. Step 6 Summary and Homework Review the phrases and sentense structures. Make conversaions ,using the past progressive tense. Step 7 Blackboard design
