课时提能练(三十二)Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2019·湖南衡阳二模,B)By the time Robert Porter Allen was born in 1905, the whooping crane(鸣鹤) was already in trouble. The beautiful bird was once commonly found across North America. By 1941, the whooping crane population had dwindled to the double digits. The tallest species in North America were critically endangered. In the 1940's, the remaining cranes migrated (迁徙) every year from the Gulf Coast of Texas to somewhere in the north of Canada to breed (繁殖).The conservation community didn't know where the birds went. The wetlands where they used to spend winters were growing rarer and rarer as they were dried and built on, and the birds were dying in large numbers on the long migration flight. A tiny, nonmigrating group of whooping cranes was alive in Louisiana in 1941, but the group had disappeared by the time Allen started his research. In 1942, Allen undertook the whooping crane project. Over the next three years, he did almost constant field work that took him from Texas up the cranes' migration route to Nebraska, and on into Saskatchewan in search of the nesting ground of the birds.Studying the bird in its breeding habitat and seeing how many birds were born would allow conservationists to understand how to help the birds on their journey. But finding the whooping crane's nesting site meant difficult and fruitless air searches over northern Canada. In 1952, Allen wrote a report on the whooping crane. The report was a warning call to the conservation community:only 33 migrator? “whoopers” remained, and their nesting site still hadn't been found. Two years later, the whooping crane's breeding grounds in Canada's Wood Buffalo National Park were finally found, and Allen headed north to study them firsthand,an “incredibly difficult journey,”in Sprunt's words. Allen's work laid the groundwork for conservationists to save the birds.Their efforts paid off as the numbers reached 57 by 1970 and 214 by 2005. Today, the whooping crane is still listed as endangered, but there are roughly 600 birds alive.【语篇解读】本文为记叙文,讲述了一名动物保护者保护濒危动物鸣鹤的故事。

reading?Experts have begun to realize that a young person’s interest in independent reading seems to be important to longterm success.Howe ver,not all children______________.That’s where you should do your part as a parent.[2]First,understand that independent reading is not guided or shared reading. You may be present in the room with your son or daughter, but you will not be engaged in reading the book for your child.Instead, the child should pick up a book on his or her own, whether or not he or she can read all the words.[3]Not only does this kind of independent reading increase a child’s imagination, focus, comprehension and vocabulary, but it also allows him or her to build interest in a subject. For example,if he or she finds the Roman Empire fascinating, independently reading about that_time_period could broaden his or her understanding of society.[4]One of the best ways to raise a youngster’s interest in independent reading is to become an independent reader yourself.Turn off the TV and open the newspaper.Take time at the end of the day as a family to enjoy some free reading moments. The more you do it yourself, the more likely your child will be to accept it as a proper, regular thing to do.You can also begin building your child’s personal “library”.That way,he or she will have many choices of books to peruse duringindependent reading.[5]Remember that reading achievement is linked to a love of independent reading. So the next time your child picks up a book, allow him or her to have some private moments. You’ll never regret your decision to embrace independent reading.1.Fill in the blank in Paragraph 1 with proper words.(no more than 6 words) ________________________________________________________________________2.List three of the benefits of independent reading.(no more than 14 do the underlined words “that time period” in Paragraph 3 probably refer to?(no more than 5 words)________________________________________________________________________4.What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?(no more than 8 words)________________________________________________________________________5.What should a parent do when his/her child picks up a book on his/her own?(no more than 12
