AMemory is an incredibly important part of our lives, allowing us to store and retrieve information about the world around us. Unfortunately, many of us experience memory difficulties in our daily lives. Luckily, there are several techniques that can help improve memory. Here are a few:- Use Mnemonic Devices: Mnemonic devices are memory tools that help us remember certain pieces of information. For example, you might use the acronym HOMES to remember the names of the Great Lakes (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior). Another example is the phrase “My very eager mother just served us nine pizzas” to remember the order of the planets in our solar system (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto).-Repetition: Repetition is the act of repeating a piece of information. This technique is particularly useful for remembering short-term information. If you need to remember a phone number or a name, repeating it several times to yourself can help you commit it to memory. - Visualization: Visualization is the process of creating mental images to assist with memory. For example, if you need to remember a grocery list, you might create mental images of the items on the list. You could picture an apple in your mind, then a carton of eggs, then a loaf of bread, and so on.-Organization: Organizing information can also help improve memory. This might mean grouping similar items together, as in creating categories for different types of information. For example, if you are trying to remember a list of vocabulary words, you might group them together by similar meanings.- Sleep: Getting enough sleep is important for memory consolidation, the process of transferring short-term memories to long-term storage. Without sufficient consolidation, memories may be lost over time.-Exercise: Exercise has been shown to improve memory and cognitive function. A study conducted by the University of British Columbia found that regular aerobic exercise increases the size of the hippocampus, a brain region associated with memory.By using these techniques, you can improve your memory and ensure that important information is not forgotten.1. The government says nothing has been decided. But the transport secretary, Grant Shapps, points out some stations sell only a handful of tickets each week and the vast majority of transactions (交易) have moved online.Regardless of the outcome of the plan, the direction of travel is clear. In the name of modernization and cost-cutting, station ticket offices are likely to follow many high street bank branches and rural post offices into memory. For those who have grown used to the advantages of organizing travel via a smartphone, there will be little to mourn (哀悼). But for people without online access or skills, another small social barrier will have emerged. A recent report estimated that around 6% of households—1.5 m homes—have no Internet access. Millions more of us remain irregular and unconfident users of the Internet. Most likely, as digital technology becomes the gatekeeper to everyday life, a significant minority risks being left behind. The shift online is unavoidable, but its fallout needs to be managed with more care. Technology should not be allowed to drive people to the side of their own lives, which is increasingly the case. Ros Altmann, the former pensions minister, recently wrote of being contacted by an elderly woman who no longer drives to her local park, because she cannot download the car parking app required. The debate over ticket offices offers an opportunity to reflect more broadly on the increasing role of technology in our social landscape. Clearly, much more needs to be invested in helping marginalized (边缘化的) groups gain easy online access. Alternative offline options must be maintained for important services. Contactable telephone numbers and staffed public access points should always be available. This will cost more. But that is the price of being fair to those who find themselves on the wrong side of the digital divide.4.What forces the rail industry to phase out paper train tickets?A.Costs of Internet access.B.Closure of station ticket offices.C.A sharp decline of offline transactions.D.The government's efforts to digitize the industry.5.Which of the following might fall victim to the plan?A.Rural post offices.B.Irregular Internet users.C.Unconfident households.D.High street bank branches.6.How does the author clarify his opinion in Paragraph 3?A.By giving an example.B.By making a comparison.C.By citing research data.D.By offering statistical analysis.7.What does the author suggest in the last paragraph?A.Taking the digital divide fairly.B.Maintaining a diversity of services.C.Investing more in public transport.D.Slowing down the pace of modernization.Ⅲ.应用文写作[2023ꞏ新课标Ⅱ卷]假定你是李华,外教Ryan准备将学生随机分为两人一组,让大家课后练习口语,你认为这样分组存在问题。

应用文——2024届高考英语高考阅读理解文体分类练学校:___________姓名:___________班级:___________考号:___________一、阅读理解The Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers trails (路线) for all skill levels and we’ve pulled together a list of some of the easier hiking trails that are perfect for kids.Gatlinburg TrailThe Gatlinburg Trail is easy to get to and perfect for a first time hiking experience. Pets and bikes are allowed on this one too. The trail is relatively flat and follows along the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River for about 2 miles, so the roundtrip length is just 3.9 miles. Hike at your own pace and enjoy!Porters Creek TrailThe Porters Creek trailhead is located in Greenbrier Cove. The trail makes a great hike any time of the year due to its lower elevation (海拔). As you make your way along the hiking trail from the parking lot to Porters Flat, you’ll see remains of the Elbert Cantrell farmhouse, Ownby Cemetery, the John Messer farm site and more. And if you happen to visit during the spring season, be on the lookout for all the beautiful spring wildflowers beginning to bloom. The roundtrip length is 4 miles.Laurel FallsThe Laurel Falls trail is 2.3 miles round trip and considered to be one of the best waterfall hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains! Laurel Falls Trail is paved but rocky and uneven, and there are a few steep drop-offs as you get closer to the falls, so wear appropriate shoes and keep small children close.Andrew’s Bald Hiking TrailAndrew’s Bald Hiking Trail is 1. 8 miles each way and relatively easy t o negotiate. But bread has played such an important role in our lives for thousands of years that words and phrases relating to it have crept into our everyday vocabularies.BreadwinnerHave you ever heard your mom or dad referred to as the breadwinner of the household? No, they aren't running a race to win a loaf of bread for dinner or entering some weird lottery at the bakery. Since "bread" is a term for the basic food and drink that everyone needs, "breadwinner" refers to the person who is the main provider for a family, the one who earns the money to bring home the "bread" that their family needs. Today, usually both mom and dad are breadwinners.BreadbasketIt may sound like something they bring the breadsticks in at a restaurant, but a breadbasket actually has other meanings besides bread holder. A region of a country that grows a lot of grain, like the Midwest region of the United States, is often called that country's breadbasket, since it provides the raw materials for much of its bread. Oddly enough, breadbasket is also a slang term for a person's stomach—where they "keep" their bread after eating it!Best thing since sliced breadThis probably sounds weird, since most of us buy our bread at the grocery store, perfectly pre-sliced. But once people could only buy unsliced bread, they had to carefully cut each piece with a knife. In 1928, Otto Rohwedder invented a bread-slicing machine. Today the term is usually used in referring to a brilliant idea or the perfect device like those mysterious kitchen wares.Bread and ButterWhen the man at the auto repair shop says that flat tires are his "bread and butter", he's not on some strange new diet. This phrase refers to a task or job that's a basic means of making a living-in this case, fixing flat tires-which provides the most money for the essentials of everyday life.4.Which of the following expressions can be used to refer to an organ?A.Breadwinner.B.Breadbasket.C.Best thing since sliced bread.D.Bread and butter.5.In which situation will people say "It is the best thing since sliced bread"?A.A man puts forward a wonderful proposal.B.A college graduate found a high paid job.C.A wife praises herself for raising her family.D.A boy wins a competition for loafs of bread.6.In which section of a magazine may this text appear?A.Travel.B.Cuisine.cation.D.Culture.Gabon, on the west coast of Africa, has numerous rainforests, open grasslands, white-sand beaches and rushing rivers. Here are four adventures that can let you have unforgettable experiences. The Wild Species AdventureThe site of this adventure is close to a national park, which has elephants, monkeys, leopards, red river hogs and so on. 高考英语《阅读理解+七选五+应用文写作》真题含答案Ⅰ.阅读理解Asouthern Alaska kicked off Fat Bear Week, when fans compare before and after photos of bears to vote for the one they think has gained the most weight before they bed down for the long freezing winter. Bear 747, also known as “Bear Force One”,took the firstplace spot with 68,105 votes. It weighed around 1,400 pounds.Fat Bear Week started in 2014. At first, it was just Fat Bear Tuesday. Mike Fitz, a former park keeper at Katmai, noticed that live webcams showing the bears generated a lot of online comments, so he let people vote for their favorite fat bear on the Internet. The oneday event attracted 1,700 votes. In 2015 , it was extended to a week. Last year, nearly 800,000 people got involved, turning it into a global campaign. The contest serves two main purposes. First, some of America's national parks are in remote and undeveloped areas, which are difficult or costly to reach. Fat Bear Week brings Alaska's wilderness to fans' computer screens. “ It's not limited to the fortunate few who can go to the river anymore,” Fitz said.Second, Fat Bear Week brings attention to the bears and the ecosystems they live in. “ The 2,200 bears of Katmai are strong for feeding on some of the healthiest salmon (三文鱼) in the world,” said Sara Wolman, a former park keeper. Salmon in the Pacific Northwest are suffering from overfishing, dam construction and warming rivers due to climate change. Luckily, Brooks River, which Katmai's bears like to fish in, has been free from these threats so far.Fat Bear Week has spread like viruses. Fans and creators say it's because it shows a conservation success story. For one week, people don't have to focus on climate change or habitat loss. “ Maybe things aren't super great all the time in the world,” said Felicia Jimenez, who is a current Katmai keeper. “ But there are some really fat bears in Alaska. ”【语篇解读】本文介绍了位于阿拉斯加州南部的卡特迈国家公园和自然保护区举办的“胖熊周”活动。

The research, led by Dr Steven Stagg of Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), examined the benefits of letter spacing and coloured overlays (颜色标注) among children. Two groups of children, dyslexic (有阅读障碍的) and non-dyslexic children, were asked to read four texts with either standard or extra-large letter spacing, both with and without a coloured overlay. They were instructed to read the text out loud while being recorded. The recording was used to measure the number of errors they made—specifically missed words, added words, wrong words, and pronunciation—as well as the participants' reading time. The study discovered that the text with increased space between letters provided benefits for both groups. On average, the dyslexic group showed a 13% increase in reading speed, while the group of non-dyslexic children showed a 5% increase. In addition to improving reading speed, it also resulted in a significant decline in the number of words missed by the children with dyslexic. However, the study found that coloured overlays had no significant impact on reading speed or the reduction of errors for either group.Dr Stagg, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at ARU, said, “We believe extra-large letter spacing works by reducing what is known as the ‘crowding effect’,which can hamper the recognition of letters and reduce reading speed.”“Our findings strongly suggest that teachers can be confident that all children would be helped by increased letter spacing in reading materials,”Dr Stagg added. “While we found that coloured overlays provided few benefits, we suggest children should be encouraged to use overlays if they find these help their reading. Coloured overlays may not increase reading speeds, but they may extend reading stamina (持久力). Previous research suggests their benefits may not become apparent if reading time is less than 10 minutes and the short reading duration of the tests in our study may have put coloured overlays at a disadvantage.”【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。

A story of cycles-of seasons, years, people, generations, stretches back centuries.A story of farming which only exists now in the remoter, wilder region of the UK, where the land is too hard and the environment too harsh for farming to be an "agribusiness". Where success, survival of farms, their sheep are dependent on knowledge passed down through generations and shared between farmers and shepherds in a small, close-knit and mutually-dependent community. A story of people hefted to their land every bit as much as their sheep are hefted to their fells.A Walk in the Woods by Bill BrysonReviewed by T. BentlyHaving read all of Bill Bryson's travel books, this was the last one left. I hadn't read this because I had been told it was one of his weakest one. But I decided, through no other reason that I needed a hit of Bryson, to read it. People couldn't have been more wrong. From the very beginning of assessing the feasibility, arranging for Katz to accompany him to the purchasing of his equipment and the purchasing of "a large knife for killing bears and hillbillies", Bryson is at his absolute best. His cute eye is a wise witness to this beautiful but fragile but fragile trail. His encounters along the trail and Katz anti-social, childish antics (滑稽动作) make the first 150 pages more than a laugh-out-loud-hike. I couldn't have been more surprised. An adventure, a comedy, and a celebration, A Walk in the Woods is destined to become a modem classic.5.In The Shepherd's Life, James Rebanks takes readers through a shepherds' life ______.A. little noticed, and deeply attached to the harsh landB. alternated by the seasons and changed by the generationsC. featuring a hard struggle in the remote and beautiful areaD. spent in a profitable agricultural and friendly community6.What does the reviewer wants to convey by saying "People couldn't have been morewrong."?A. It's a pity that people turn a blind eye to Bryson's travelling experience.DBackJoy Orthotic Seat:Easy,Drug-Free Relief from Back PainWhy BackJoy?BackJoy is an innovative device that provides relief from back discomfort by aiding in maintaining your posture (姿势)anywhere you sit, hard or soft seats.● Proven effective over 2.0 million units sold, durable to provide long-lasting support ● Recommended by doctors and nurses● Safe and effective a natural alternativeBack Pain Is A Problem!● We average over 9+ hours of sitting each day!● 80% of adults will suffer from back pain in their life ● Back pain is the No.2 reason for visiting the doctor● Mom was right:"Sit up straight!"How to useBackJoy is made small on purpose. It is designed to cradle the space around the two sitting bones at the base of your pelvis and must be smaller than your buttocks to do so.● Sit on top of itHandle goes in front and between your legs● Pull it tight & cup to fitFeel it cup & lift your hips above the seat from below youBACKJOY® FAQQ:When should I feel results?A:Many users experience immediate relief, and some require several weeks of regular use to feel the benefits of their BackJoy.Q:Will BackJoy work for my condition A:BackJoy will not cure your back pain, but it will relieve the pressures caused by sitting.*BackJoy seat products will not work for you if you have been confined to a wheel chair,or if you have trouble standing or walking for any length of time.7.Which of the following statements is True?______A.
