•On August 12th, 490 BC the messenger ran the 42 kilometre distance without stopping. He would have been subjected to temperatures as high as 39 degrees celcius and just after he arrived in Athens with the news, he died (likely from heat stroke).

The distance of the modern marathon was standardized as 42.195KM.It can be divided into three forms. Full marathon, half marathon and quarter marathon. There isn`t a world record for marathon, but only the best result. The players can`t be admitted to take part in the game if they don`t match the physical condition of medical institution. With a special reason, athletes can leave competing lanes under the supervision of the referee, but if not, they will be disqualified.
