After analyzing it carefully, I find the article has two unique characteristics. First, it’s a long passage with 688 words, much more than the usual texts. Second, it deals with a new topic, that is, a gap year. The topic is unfamiliar to most students. Section 2 Indentifying the teaching aims Based on the analysis of the teaching material, I have chosen the following as the teaching aims of my lesson: The 1st aim: Students learn the skills and strategies to read a prolonged text. The 2nd aim: Students get a better understanding of what a gap year is. The 3rd aim: Students are encouraged to figure out the implied meaning. The 4th aim: Students are familiar with various expressi or approaches to express the same thing or idea. The part cists of two tasks: Task 1: A time machine. I start my lesson by asking senior 3 students what the date is. Then, I go on to show a picture of a time machine. I tell students that the machine with a magic power will bring them to their graduation from high school, which is 1 year away. At that point, I get them to imagine where they are and what they are doing. After it, I give a summary of their presentati as follows: After leaving high school, most of Chinese students go straight to university.Yes, at this time next year, most of you will be studying in a university. Good afternoon, everyone. I feel honored to interpret my lesson here. I’d like to interpret it from the following5 aspects: analysis of the teaching material, the teaching aims, the teaching methods, the studying methods, and the teaching procedure.First, let me focus on Part 1 My lesson is A Few Simple Forms of English Poems from NSEFC Book 6 Unit 2. This unit is about poems. And this lesson, the second lesson of this unit, plays a very important role in the teaching of the whole unit because it provides not only language and grammar input but also information input. As we all know, without input no output can be achieved.Second, I’d like to talk about Part 2 Based on my analysis of the teaching material, the New Standard Curriculum and the Syllabus, I think I have 3 teaching objectives to achieve: knowledge objective, ability objective and emotion objective.1. Knowledge objective:I hope through this lesson, students will be able to master the characteristics of poems and understand words and expressions about poems.2. Ability objective:Through this lesson, students, first, will be able to read, using different reading strategies according to different reading tasks. Second, they’ll be able to generalize and sum up the text using their own words. Third, they’ll be able to develop their ability to learn autonomously and cooperatively.3. Emotion objectiveAs for emotion objective, I hope they’ll be able to appreciate the beauty of poems in different cultures, especially those in our own country, thus feeling proud of our country. They’ll be able to promote their awareness of cooperation and develop the habit of cooperative learning.Then what is the important teaching point? I say it is how to enable them to develop their reading skills,and improve their reading ability. What about the difficult teaching point? In my view, it is how to enable them to form a scientific habit of reading, and improve their language competence and proficiency.Then what scientific teaching methods should I adopt to achieve the objectives? According to Task-Based Language Teaching Method, the process of using language is also a process of accomplishing varieties of tasks. It emphasizes learning through doing and doing for learning.Cooperative Learning method emphasizes cooperation, which is beneficial to improving students’ academic achievements and developing students’ non-intelligent qualities. According to the “Top-down” Model, general idea of the text should be got first, and then come the details.Schema theory insists reading comprehension is an interactive process between the reader’s background knowledge and the text.Based on the teaching theories above and my analysis of the teaching material and the students, Task-Based Language Teaching method, Cooperative Learning method, Whole Language Teaching method, and The Intuitive Teaching method will be used.What about the studying methods? Students in Grade Two still lack proper learning strategies. So I will guide them to master the following strategies;Cognitive Strategy; Control Strategy; Communication Strategy and Resources StrategyNow I’d like to interpret Part 5 The Teaching Procedure which consists of five steps:Pre-task, Task-cycle, Post-task, Self-assessment and Homework.In Step 1, first, I will play the song “ Twinkle, twinkle, little star” and encourage students to sing by clapping their hands. In this way, students’attention is attracted and the atmosphere comes to life. Next I will ask: Why is the song so popular? Do you want to write your own English poem?Students’answer to the question above must be Yes. Then I’ll present the teaching objectives and say: After this lesson, you’ll make it. In this way, students’interest in the lesson is aroused and they will learn with purpose.Finally, I’ll present the title of the passage and say: We’re going to learn A Few Simple Forms of English Poems today. But what do you think the passage will be about according to the title and the structure of the passage? In this way, students will be able to read actively.In Step 2, first, students are required to find out the main idea of the passage by skimming within 3 mins, and focusing on the first sentence of each paragraph. This activity not only helps students check their prediction but also trains their ability to read fast without stopping to look the new words up. Therefore, students can develop a good habit of reading.Then I’ll ask them to read each paragraph carefully, taking notes, making marks or underlining the key words for the characteristics of poems at the same time. Then they fill in the form about the characteristics of poems with words of no more than given number alone first, then discuss and check the answers. This is to develop the ability to obtain and process information.Finally, listen and follow the clips of sound for the poems and try to understand the theme of each one. They also have to fill in a form with words of no more than given number. This is to consolidate their understanding of the characteristics and help them develop the ability to obtain and process information.In Step 3, students first retell the passage according to the structure of the passage and the first form. It provides a chance for students to apply what they have learned.Then students write a poem of their favourite type individually first, then read their poems aloud in turn in their group and assess the poems together. Finally, each group has to decide the best one. This activity gives them a chance to learn form one another and helps develop their awareness of cooperation.In Step 4 , students are required to reflect on their study behaviour and effect according to the form from the following aspects. It helps them improve their study methods and learning strategies.Finally is the Homework. Homework is the consolidation, and extension of the lesson. So I’ll give students two pieces of homework. One is to cooperate and polish the best poem in the group and get ready for the exhibition of poems in our grade. The other is to surf the Internet and find out more information about English poems. What is the homework for myself? I have to reflect on my teaching behaviour and effect. I have to find out the successes and failures in my lesson. I have to figure out approaches to perfecting my teaching. Only by reflecting can I make greater progress and help students make progress.By the way, because I’m going to use the computer and the learning guide in this lesson, I don’t think I have to talk about the blackboard design.That’s all for my interpretation.
