Remove any dirt / dust from heater cabinet using a damp cloth to mitigate electrostatic charge buildup.2. Do not install the heater in an environment which could potentially cause an electrostatic charge buildup on the cabinet (i.e. exposure to high pressure steam).3. The heater core is NOT field repairable. All defective cores must be replaced with a factory suppliedunit.4. The motor is NOT field repairable. All defective motors must be replaced with a factory supplied orfactory approved unit.5. Flameproof joints are NOT field repairable. Any damaged enclosures/fittings will have to be replacedwith factory approved units.6. For any field repairs use only original factory installed fasteners or factory supplied replacementfasteners.— INSTALLATION —These instructions are to be used as a general guideline only.LocationPlease follow guidelines below for optimum heating results:1. Do not install heaters such that airflow is blocked or impeded by equipment or walls.2. For occupant comfort, position heaters so that air discharge is directed across areas of highest heat loss, such as doors, windows, and outside walls.3. For large areas, arrange heaters such that the air discharge of one heater is directed towards the inlet of thenext heater. This sets up a rotational airflow with air circulation in the central area of the building.4. For equipment freeze protection, direct air discharge at required equipment.5. For large workshops or warehouses it may be acceptable to use fewer, but larger heaters.6. Do not direct air discharge towards a room thermostat.7. Heater inlet and outlet coupling connection locations can be reversed in the field by removing the core, rotating it 180 degrees, and then re-installing it. Cabinet plugs can then be repositioned.Mounting1. A variety of mounting brackets are available from the factory to aid in installation.2. The heater is designed to be installed in an upright and level position. While it may be installed in otherpositions, for steam service, the inlet must be above the outlet and the bottom of the heat exchanger must drain towards the outlet.3. Heaters are designed to be suspended from the top of the cabinet using either two or four 5/8"–11 UNCbolts or threaded rod.4. It is essential that adequate structural support be provided for installation. The mounting structure must bestrong enough to support the heaters weight, provide sufficient stiffness to prevent excessive vibration, and withstand all probable abusive situations such as transportable installations where truck off-loading impacts, etc. may occur.Mounting Heights and Clearances1. To ensure that warm air reaches the floor, heaters are usually mounted 7-1/2 ft. (2.3m) to 12 ft. (3.6 m)above the floor. Heaters may be mounted at higher elevations and still provide warm air at floor level however, the maximum mounting elevation at which this occurs depends on location and operational conditions.2. Louvers may be adjusted to provide greater downward deflection of the discharge air. However, it isrecommended that louvers not be set <15° from the closed position.Fan Clearance1. Verify the minimum required clearance between fan blades / fan shroud and the fan blades / fan guard priorto heater power up.Heater Size 12" 16" 20" 24" 30" 36"Min Clearance 2.0 mm 2.0 mm 2.5 mm 3.0 mm 3.8 mm 4.6 mm— Piping Practices —1. Steam unit heaters condense steam rapidly, especially during warm-up periods. The return piping must beplanned to keep the heat-exchanger’s core free of condensate during periods of maximum heat output, and steam piping must be able to carry a full supply of steam to the unit heater to take the place of condensed steam. Adequate pipe size is especially important when a unit heater fan is operated under on-off control because the condensate rate fluctuates rapidly.2. Heater is to be connected and serviced only by qualified personnel. For additional piping information referto local codes.3. Eliminate pipe stress by adequately supporting all piping. Do not rely on heater to support piping.4. Take off all branch lines from the top of steam mains, preferably at a 45° angle, although vertical 90°connections are acceptable.5. Pipe the branch supply line into the steam unit heater’s inlet at the top and the return branch line from theoutlet at the bottom. The heater’s inlet and outlet coupling connections can be reversed in the field by rotating the heat-exchanger core. Refer to Page 10, Heat-Exchanger Core AssemblyReplacement.6. In steam systems, the branch from the supply main to the heater must pitch down towards the main and beconnected to its top in order to prevent condensate in the main from draining through the heater. In long branch lines, a drip trap may be needed.7. Allow for pipe expansion to prevent excessive strain on the unit heater’s heat-exchanger core.8. The return piping from steam unit heaters should provide a minimum drop of 10" (254 mm) below theheater so that the pressure of water required to overcome resistances of check valves, traps, and strainers will not cause condensate to remain in the heater.9. In steam systems, where horizontal piping must be reduced in size, use eccentric reducers that permit thecontinuance of uniform pitch along the bottom of piping (in downward pitched systems). Avoid using concentric reducers on horizontal piping, because they can cause water hammer.10. Installing dirt pockets at the outlet of unit heaters and strainers with 0.063 in. (2 mm) perforations to preventrapid plugging are essential to trap dirt and scale that might affect the operation of check valves and traps.Strainers should always be installed in the steam supply line if the heater is valve controlled.11. In steam or hot water systems, rapid air removal is required because entrained air is a cause of corrosion.Hot water systems should be equipped with suitable air vent valves for rapid and complete air removal at high points, at the top of each unit heater, and ends of both supply and return mains. Proper air venting for steam systems can be achieved by use of a steam trap with an internal air vent.12. Steam traps must be located below the outlet of the unit heater. Consult the trap manufacturer for specificrecommendations. Each steam unit heater should be provided with a trap of sufficient size and capacity to pass a minimum of twice the normal amount of condensation released by the unit at the minimumdifferential pressure in the system. Trap capacity is based on the pressure differential between supply and return mains. Steam systems should be equipped with a float and thermostatic trap or inverted bucket trap with an air bypass.13. If the condensate return line is above the heater outlet or is pressurized, install a check valve after thesteam trap and a drain valve at the strainer to drain the system during the off season.14. Install pipe unions and shut-off valves at connection points of each unit heater to allow maintenance orreplacement of unit without shutting down and draining the entire system. For hot water systems include a balancing valve in return line for flow regulation. A drain valve should be provided below each unit heater to allow removal of water from the heat-exchanger core if located in an area subject to freezing.15. Adequate air venting is required for low-pressure closed gravity systems. The vertical pipe connection tothe air vent should be at least 3/4" NPT to allow water to separate from the air passing to the vent. If thermostatic instead of float-and-thermostatic traps are used in vacuum systems, a cooling leg must be installed ahead of the trap.16. In high-pressure systems, it is customary to continuously vent the air through a petcock unless the steamtrap has a provision for venting air. Most high-pressure return mains terminate in flash tanks that are vented to the atmosphere. When possible, pressure reducing valves should be installed to permit operation of the heaters at low pressure. Steam traps must be suitable for the operating pressure encountered.17. On steam systems where the steam supply to the unit heater is modulated or controlled by a motorizedvalve, a vacuum breaker should be installed between the unit outlet and a float and thermostatic trap.Heat-Exchanger Core Assembly Replacement1. Heat-exchanger core assemblies are heavy and replacement requires two people for safety reasons.2. It is not necessary to dismount unit heater from its support structures to remove the heat-exchanger core assembly. However, it may be advisable in some instances to allow for core assembly removal at ground or bench level.3. Remove the bottom heater cabinet cover which is attached with 6 screws and 3 bolts.4. Support the heat exchanger core assembly, then remove the 4 core bolts on each side of the cabinet (36" models have 6 core bolts).5. Lower the core assembly from heater.6. Reverse the procedure to install replacement core and tighten 4 core bolts to 90 in-lbs (10 N-m) torque, bottom panel screws to 28 in-lbs (3 N-m) , and fan panel bolts to 100 in-lbs (11 N-m) . (36" models have 6 core bolts)Fan, Fan Guard or Motor Replacement1. For replacement of fan or fan guard remove the 4 bolts holding motor to the motor mount. For 36" modelsalso remove speed reducer bolts. If replacing motor only on 36" models, only remove motor mounting bolts and C-face flange bolts.2. Detach two-piece fan guard assembly by removing top and bottom screws that attach the fan guard to thecabinet.3. Remove fan guard pieces through top or bottom. Due to stiffness of fan guards, you may need to removeouter two top or bottom bolts that attach the fan panel to the top or bottom cabinet panels to provide sufficient clearance.4. Lift the motor, (and speed reducer for the 36" model) and fan assembly off the motor mount.5. Loosen fan hub screw and remove fan blade from motor shaft.6. To reassemble, position fan on motor shaft with end of shaft even with face of hub. Ensure the set screw isfacing towards motor and lined up perpendicular to factory-ground flat on motor shaft. This flat is our “Easy-Off” fan blade replacement feature and only comes on motors purchased from Hazloc Heaters. Tighten set screw to 150 in-lbs (17 N-m) torque.7. Place motor, (and speed reducer for the 36" model) and fan assembly onto motor mount and fasten the two-piece fan guards to the cabinet.8. Center fan in the fan-shroud opening. The gap between the fan blades and fan shroud should be even forall fan blades. Ensure the minimum gap is maintained for all blades. See page 6 for minimum gap values. 9. Bolt motor (and speed reducer for the 36" model) to motor mount, tighten nuts to 250 in-lbs (28 N-m)torque. Manually spin the fan blade to ensure it rotates freely before reconnecting heater to power supply. Fan must rotate counterclockwise when viewed from rear of heater.— Repair and Replacement —Item (in-lbs)Fan blade set screw 1505/16 - 18 UNC motor nuts 250 1/4 - 20 UNC core bolts90 Torque Settings1/4 - 20 UNC fan panel bolts 100 5/16 - 18 UNC motor mount bolts 250 #10 - 24 UNC bottom panel & louver blade screws281/4 - 20 UNC fan guard self tapping screws 100 (N-m) 17 28 28 11 11 10 3Note: Heater inlet and outlet coupling connection locations can be reversed in the field by removing the core, rotating it 180 degrees, and then re-installing it. If the appliance is equipped with a power cord, the latter may onlybe replaced by an authorised service centre or professional tech-nician.9. It is mandatory to screw o the water inlet pipe of the unit a safetyvalve in accordance with national regulations. In countries which have enacted EN 1487, the safety group must be calibrated to a maximum pressure of 1487 MPa (0,7 bar) and include at least a cock, check valve and control, safety valve and hydraulic load cutout. 10. Do not tamper with the overpressure safety device (valve or safetygroup), if supplied together with the appliance; trip it from time to time to ensure that it is not jammed and to remove any scale de-posits.11. It is normal water drips from the overpressure safety device whenthe appliance is heating. For this reason, the drain must be con-nected, always left open to the atmosphere, with a drainage pipe installed in a continuous downward slope and in a place free of ice.12. Make sure you drain the appliance and disconnect it from the pow-er grid when it is out of service in an area subject to subzero tem-peratures.13. Water heated to over 50 °C can cause immediate serious burns ifdelivered directly to the taps. Children, disabled persons and the aged are particularly at risk. If you want to heat up a large amount of milk (>180ml/6oz), the maximum water level is approximately 1cm/0.4 inches under the rim of the baby bottle warmer (which corresponds to adding 160ml/4.5oz of drinking water). An accurate water level ensurescorrect warming performance. (Fig. 5)4 Select the desired setting (Fig. 6).Note:Experience teaches that babies may have a preference for a specific milk temperature. This can be due to personal preference or external factors (e.g.environment temperature). All three settings ensure that the milk is warmed to a safe temperature which is comfortable for your child and helps to preserve the nutrients and vitamins in the milk.5 Press the on/off button to switch on the appliance. The light in thebutton lights up to indicate that the baby bottle warmer is on (Fig. 7). Note:The baby bottle warmer starts warming up right after you press the button.6 The progress indicator starts to fill up gradually with white light toshow the progress of the milk warming process (Fig. 8).Note:The progress indicator shows the progress of the milk warming process. The progress indicator starts flashing when the appliance is on.When the first warming phase has been completed, the bottom segment lights up continuously and the next segment starts flashing to show that the second warming phase is in progress. These steps continue until the third warming phase has been completed. Then the entire progress indicator lights up continuously.Note:During the warming process, the milk circulates to ensure even warming. It takes about 10 minutes to warm 90ml/3oz of room-temperature milk.It takes slightly longer to warm cold milk or a large amount of milk. Caution: Do not take the bottle out of the baby bottle warmer while the progress indicator is flashing.7 When the entire progress indicator lights up continuously, the milkhas reached the set temperature.,When the milk is warm, you can either take the bottle out of thebaby bottle warmer to feed your baby right away (see section ‘Feeding your baby immediately’) or you can keep it warm in the baby bottle warmer (see section ‘Keeping milk warm’).Increasing the milk temperature1 If you want the milk to be warmer, you can increase the milktemperature gradually after it is ready by switching to milk warming setting 3 and leaving the bottle in the appliance at the keep-warm mode (Fig. 9). 2 If you just switched off the baby bottle warmer or if it just switchedoff automatically, switch it back on without removing the warm water from it, and follow the above step (Fig. 10). 3 The baby bottle warmer switches off automatically after 20 minutesof keep-warm mode (Fig. 11).Feeding your baby immediately1 Press the on/off button to switch off the appliance and take out themilk bottle (Fig. 10). 2 Always check the temperature of the milk before you feed your baby.Gently swirl the milk in the bottle and check the temperature of the milk by sprinkling a few drops on the inside of your wrist (Fig. 12). 3 Unplug the appliance and empty the baby bottle warmer (Fig. 13).Keeping milk warm1 When the milk has reached the desired temperature, the babybottle warmer automatically switches to the keep-warm mode. In this mode, the milk is kept at the set temperature for 20 minutes (Fig. 14). 2 The baby bottle warmer switches off automatically after20 minutes. The progress indicator switches off to indicate that the milk is not kept at the desired temperature anymore (Fig. 11).ENGLISH10ENGLISH11 Note:If you want to feed your baby with milk at the set temperature, you need to take the milk bottle out of the baby bottle warmer and feed it to your baby right after the baby bottle warmer switches off, otherwise the milk cools down.Note:You cannot prolong the keep-warm mode of the baby bottle warmer for more than 20 minutes.Caution: It is not recommended to reheat breast milk twice, as bacteria start to develop in the milk.3 Always check the temperature of the milk before you feed yourbaby. Gently swirl the milk in the bottle or milk storage container and check the temperature of the milk by sprinkling a few drops on the inside of your wrist (Fig. 12).4 Unplug the appliance and empty the baby bottle warmer (Fig. 13).Re-using the baby bottle warmer right away foranother bottleIf you want to heat up another bottle right away, let the baby bottle warmer cool down for a few minutes.T o speed up this process, fill the baby bottle warmer with fresh cold water. When you switch on the baby bottle warmer, the progress indicator starts flashing from bottom to top to indicate that the appliance is heating up again.Note:If the progress indicator is on but does not flash, the baby bottle warmer is still too warm to heat up another bottle. Please switch off the baby bottle warmer, let it cool down for a few minutes and make sure you fill it with fresh cold water.Using the baby bottle warmer to warm baby food1 Put the mains plug in the wall socket (Fig. 3).2 Place a baby food container or jar centrally in the baby bottlewarmer (Fig. 15).Note:You can leave off the lid of the food container or jar,so you can stir the baby food during heating.3 Fill the baby bottle warmer with the same amount of drinkingwater as the amount of baby food you want to warm up (for example, to warm up 125ml/4oz of baby food, you need to use 125ml/4oz of drinking water). If you want to warm up a large amount of baby food, the maximum water level is approximately 1cm/0.4 inches under the rim of the baby bottle warmer (which corresponds to adding 160ml/4.5oz of drinking water). An accurate water level ensures correct warming performance. (Fig. 16) 4 Select the baby food warming setting (Fig. 17).5 Press the on/off button to switch on the appliance. The light in theprogress indicator shows that the baby bottle warmer is on (Fig. 18).Note: The baby bottle warmer starts warming up right after you press the button. Due to the large variety of baby food consistencies, it is not possible for the appliance to detect exactly how long the baby food should be warmed. 6 The progress indicator starts to fill gradually with white light toshow the progress of the warming process. During the warming process, do not take the jar or container out of the baby bottle warmer but stir the baby food while the jar or container is still in the baby bottle warmer (Fig. 19).Note: You can start stirring the baby food once the second segment of the progress indicator lights up continuously. Stirring before this moment is not effective as the temperature of the baby food is still too low.Caution: Do not take the food container or jar out of the baby bottle warmer during warming.7 When the entire progress indicator lights up continuously, the babyfood has reached the desired temperature.Note: Due to the large variety of baby food consistencies, it is strongly recommended that you continuously stir the baby food and check its temperature while it is heating up for an optimal result.ENGLISH12ENGLISH13 ,When the baby food is warm, you can either take the baby food container or jar out of the baby bottle warmer to feed your baby right away (see section ‘Feeding your baby immediately’) or you can keep it warm in the baby bottle warmer (see section ‘Keeping baby food warm’).Increasing the baby food temperature1 Always taste the baby food after warming it up to make sure it isnot too hot. If you want the baby food to be warmer, put thecontainer back into the baby bottle warmer and leave it in there at the keep warm-mode for some time. Keep stirring the babyfood (Fig. 15).2 If you just switched off the baby bottle warmer or if it just switchedoff automatically, switch it back on without removing the warmwater from it, and follow the above step (Fig. 18).3 The baby bottle warmer switches off automatically after 20 minutesof keep-warm mode (Fig. 20).Feeding your baby immediately1 Press the on/off button to switch off the appliance and take out thebaby food container or jar (Fig. 18).2 After warming, taste the baby food to ensure it is not too hot (Fig.21).3 Unplug the appliance and empty the baby bottle warmer (Fig. 13).Keeping baby food warm1 When the baby food has reached the desired temperature, thebaby bottle warmer automatically switches to the keep-warmmode. In this mode, the baby food is kept at the desiredtemperature for 20 minutes (Fig. 22).2 The baby bottle warmer switches off automatically after20 minutes. The progress indicator switches off to indicate that thebaby food is not kept at the desired temperature anymore (Fig. 20).Note: If you want to feed your baby with the baby food at the settemperature, you need to take the baby food out of the baby bottle warmer and feed it to your baby right after the baby bottle warmer switches off. If you do not do this, the baby food slowly cools down.Note: You cannot prolong the keep-warm mode of the baby bottle warmer for more than 20 minutes. 3 Always check the temperature of the baby food before you feed your baby. Gently stir the baby food in the baby food container or jar and taste the baby food to ensure it is not too hot (Fig. 21). 4 Unplug the appliance and empty the baby bottle warmer (Fig. 13).Re-using the baby bottle warmer right away for another container of baby foodIf you want to heat up another container or jar with baby food right away, let the baby bottle warmer cool down for a few minutes. T o speed up this process, fill the baby bottle warmer with fresh cold water. When you switch on the baby bottle warmer, the progress indicator starts flashing from bottom to top to indicate that the appliance is heating up again.Note: If the progress indicator is on but does not flash, the baby bottle warmer is still too warm to heat up another container or jar with baby food. Please switch off the baby bottle warmer, let it cool down for a few minutesand make sure you fill it with fresh cold water.Defrost settingAt this setting, you can defrost frozen milk or baby food. Follow the steps indicated in sections ‘Using the baby bottle warmer to warm milk’or ‘Using the baby bottle warmer to warm baby food’.The progress indicator starts flashing when the appliance is on the defrost setting. The progress indicator gradually fills with white light to show the progress of the defrosting process. The milk or baby food has defrosted completely when the entire progress indicator lights up continuously. The defrost setting defrosts the milk or baby food but does not warm it up. If you want to warm up milk or baby food after defrosting it, first switch off the appliance, then select the desired warming setting andswitch the appliance back on.ENGLISH14ENGLISH15 Cleaning1 After each use, unplug the baby bottle warmer and let it cooldown (Fig. 23).2 Remove the water from the baby bottle warmer for hygienicreasons (Fig. 24).3 Wipe the outside and inside of the baby bottle warmer with amoist cloth (Fig. 25).Do not use abrasive, anti-bacterial cleaning agents, chemical solvents or sharp tools to clean the baby bottle warmer.Note:If you used the baby bottle warmer to warm containers with baby food, make sure that no spilled baby food remains on the bottom of the baby bottle warmer.DescalingIt is recommended to descale the baby bottle warmer everyfour weeks to ensure it continues to work efficiently.1 Mix 50ml/1.7oz of white vinegar with 100ml/3.4oz of cold water todescale the baby bottle warmer. First select the defrost setting, then switch on the baby bottle warmer and let the applianceoperate for 10 minutes. Leave the solution in the baby bottlewarmer until all scale has dissolved (Fig. 26).Note:You can also use citric acid based descalers.Note:Do not use other types of descalers.2 Unplug the baby bottle warmer before you empty it (Fig. 23).3 Empty the baby bottle warmer and rinse its inside thoroughly. If youstill see traces of scale after rinsing, repeat the descalingprocedure (Fig. 24).Do not throw away the product with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in at an official collection point for recycling. Rotate the cover downward, pushing the bottom corners inward. Install two screws (removed in Step 4) through the cover into the junction boxes. See that the bottom of the cover is engaged onto the bottom of each element support bracket. See 13.Replace the end cap(s) by installing screw(s) (removed in Step 3).INSTALLATION OF MULTIPLE UNITS1.With heaters mounted end-to-end, allow 1/32-inch (1mm) of expansion spaceper heater between each heater.2.For each heater to be installed, refer to and follow “Installation of Single Unit”,Steps 1 through 8.3.If the power supply is to enter through the end of the heater series so that theend cap can be installed after the heaters are installed, continue “Installation of Single Unit”, Steps 9 through 12.4.I f the power supply is to feed heaters at the junction box that is adjacent toanother heater, it is easier for the power supply connections to be made prior to the installation of the heater(s) to the wall. If this is not possible, connections may be made through the opening in the junction boxes when the front cover(s)5.Connecting power supply cables may be routed from heater to heater by drillinga 1/2-inch (13mm) diameter hole in the end caps for the heaters that fit togeth-er. See Figure 9. To prevent possible damage to internal heater wiring, all6.Wire heaters as shown in Wiring Diagram, Figure 10.7.Replace the front covers and end caps according to “Installation of Single Unit”,OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS1.An integral or remote wall thermostat is recommended for each room. In verylarge rooms it is recommended that a low voltage thermostat with double or multiple circuit relays be used to provide the most comfortable results.DO LOCATE DO NOTTHERMOSTAT LOCATE THERMOSTAT•A minimum of two feet• Near televisions or(61cm) from any appliances that emit heat.outside wall.•Near drafts from an•Approximately five feet open doorway.(1,5m) from the floor,•Where it would be struckpreferably on an inside by direct rays of sunlight.wall location.2.After the baseboard system has been completely installed, all thermostatsshould be turned to LOW or NO HEAT setting. Then turn on breakers or install fuses. Wait 3 to 5 minutes and check to see that none of the heaters are oper-ating. If operating, disconnect power and check wiring. If none are operating then turn the thermostats to highest setting and wait 3 to 5 minutes. Check to see that all heaters are operating. Should any not be operating, disconnect power and check wiring.3.Allow entire system to operate steadily for 1/2-hour. For a period of time afterthe heaters are put into operation, the owner may notice a “new smell” coming from the heaters. This is expected on new installations. Bringing heaters to full operation will eliminate this condition in a short period of time.4.Select the setting for comfort on all thermostats.5.To clean heater:Because of the convection heating principle which dependsupon circulation of air through the finned element, dust particles will periodical-ly be deposited between the fins and should be removed occasionally for max-imum efficiency of the heater. A vacuum cleaner with proper attachments can easily be worked along the top and bottom of the finned element to clear it of dust deposits.NOTE: The painted finish of the heater may be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth if desired. Do not use wax cleaners or polishes as these waxes may vaporize when the heater is in operation and cause discoloration.ECR 369745200-2083-00511/06HOW TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICE ANDWARRANTY PARTS PLUS GENERAL INFORMATION1.
