1.be/feel in the mood for sth.
有意做某事，有做某事的心情
What’s wrong with you? It seems that you don’t feel in the mood for a dinner.
怎么了？你似乎无心吃饭。

2.be set in 以..为背景

4.Warn v.警告，告诫
1) warn sb. of/about sth.

2）warn sb. against sb./doing sth.让某人警惕，或提防某人/做某事
He warned us against pickpockets.
他告诉我们要小心扒手。

3) warn sb. to do/not to do sth.提醒（告诫）某人做/不要做某事
He warned me to stay away from those people

5）warn+ that从句
The whistle warned visitors that the ship was ready to sail.

5.determine vt. 决定
1)后跟名词或代词作宾语
Demand determines production.
需求决定生产。
2）后接不定式
We determined to do this at any cost.
我们决心不惜任何代价做这件事。
他么决心把自己的理想变成行动。
They are determined to act out their ideal.
3）+clause
Have you determined where you are going to spend the holidays?
你已经决定在何处度假了吗？

1).编造，虚构

9.disturb
1) 使不安，打断破坏安宁的状态
A light wind disturbed the surface of the pond.
微风使池塘水面泛起涟漪。
The host was quite annoyed when he found out that his things on the bookshelves had been disturbed.
主人发现他书架上的东西被弄乱了，很生气。
2）使烦躁，使不安，
我听到一些坏消息，这使我很不安。

Adventure in Literature and the Cinema
1.look as if 看起来好像，似乎（此处，look为系动词，as if 引导的从句作表语）
as if /though “好像”主要用于表语从句和状语

从句中，从句和事实不一致时，谓语动词常用虚拟语气，表示与现在和将来情况相反时用过去式，表示与过去情况相反时，用过去完成时。但当前面有系动词look, seem, taste, smell, keep, sound等时，如果表示的可能性较大，于事实较一致时，谓语动词可用陈述句式。
He looks as if he were ill.
他看上去像生病了一样。（虚拟）
They talked as if they had been friends for years.
他们交谈着就好像多年的朋友一样。（虚拟）
There are many black clouds in the sky. It looks as if it is going to rain.
天空中有很多乌云，好像要下雨了。（真实）
2.He sounds as if he’s going to die of fright!
挺起来他就要吓死了。
sound as if…听起来好像…
It sound as if he needs professional help.
我听起来好像他需要一个专业的帮助。
It sounds as if you had a good time on your trip.
听起来好像你的旅行很愉快。
3.He arrived in New Orleans without a penny in his pocket only to find that there were no boats for South America.他已身无分文地到达了新奥尔良后，才发现那里没有去南美洲的轮船。
only + to do在句子中作状语，表示一个意外的，没有料想到的结果。不定式作结果状语通常和副词only或never连用，表示意想不到的结果。

I hurried to the station only to find that the train had left. 我匆忙赶到火车站却发现火车已经离开了。
Her father left home when she was 6, never to return. 她父亲在她6岁的时候就离开家了，再也没有回来过。
The news reporters hurried to the airport, only___the film stars had left.

Persuade v.
1) persuade sb.+that 从句；

我已劝他打消了中断试验的想法。
2)persuade 意为“劝说成功”。要表示“说而不服”时，可用其他的“劝说”，如advise等，或是在persuade 前加上try to 或want to 等。

以上三句都译为：我劝他戒烟，但是徒劳。
