语言文字应用--认识汉语(不同颜色词在不同语言中的含义)
1、RED(红色)相同点：无论是英语国家还是中国,红色往往往与庆祝活动或喜庆日子有关。
比如,在中国,结婚这一天的大喜之日,家里往往要用红色为主色调来布置:新娘子要穿红色衣服,床要铺成红色,家里要摆上红色的玫瑰花,门窗上还要贴上大红喜字。
而在英语中,ared-letterday一般指节日,因为这些日子在日历上都是用红色印刷的。
因此,red-letter表示“可纪念的”,“喜庆的”。
红色在英汉文化中也都表示愤怒、羞愧等情感,汉语中有“气得脸红脖子粗”,“羞得面红耳赤”,英语中也有toseered(勃然大怒),wavingaredflag(做惹别人生气的事),以及becomered-faced(难为情,困窘)等词。
在中国,红色还象征革命和社会主义。
比如,“红军”、“红小鬼’、“红旗展”、“生在新中国,长在红旗下”、“红色娘子军”等等。
在英语中,red guard(红卫兵),red 一词本身常用作“共产主义”或“共产党员”的同义词,但具有一定的贬义。
不同红色词在英语中的含义有些在汉语中是找不到的。

2、WHITE(白色)汉英所共通的白色在英汉文化中都有“一事无成”、“没有价值”的含义。
比如,汉语中“白费”、“白搭”、“吃白食”,英语中white elephant表无用、累赘,white hope 则用来讽刺人们渴望带来巨大成功的人。
另外,白色表示纯洁之意也是汉英所共通的。
汉语中有“他的历史就像一张白纸”,表示他历史清白,没有污点。
英语中white-wedding指新娘着白色婚纱,其象征意义就是纯洁。

色彩与人类的生活息息相关，色彩也是人类认识世界的重要途径，它不仅具有物理的本质属性，还有着丰富的文化内涵。
在汉英语言中，表示各种颜色的词都很丰富，这些颜色词既有本身的基本意义，更有丰富的象征意义。
由于我国与西方在地理位置、民族风俗、思维方式、审美心理等方面的千差万别，人们对于颜色的感受和表达不尽相同，这样，颜色的内涵在中西文化之间自然会产生很大的差异。
因此，了解并掌握颜色词在英汉语言中的文化内涵对于中西文化交流具有非重要意义。
本文拟就中西文化中“红色”的不同文化内涵及如何翻译进行探讨。
一、汉英语言中“红色”的文化差异（一）“红色”在汉语中的象征意义中华民族有崇尚红色的心理。
中国文化中的红色源于太阳，古人认为“日出而万物生”，感到阳光下万物繁衍，生机勃勃，因而对太阳的红色产生了亲切的感觉。
因此汉语中与红色有关的词汇大多具有正面意义。
1. 象征喜庆和吉祥在中国，红色是喜庆节日的主色。
中国的传统习俗中，民间的喜庆活动都要使用红颜色。
例如在春节民间要挂“大红灯笼”，贴红对联；长辈给晚辈的压岁钱称为“红包”；传统的男婚女嫁，新娘要穿上“大红衣裳”、顶“大红盖头”，新郎要戴“大红花”，墙上要贴上大红“喜”字。
在民间亲戚、邻居往往会给刚生孩子的人家送“红蛋”以表庆贺。
2. 象征顺利和成功汉语中的“红”有时象征顺利、成功，也含有受人重视、欢迎的意味。
如“披红”、“红运”、“开门红”、“满堂红”等都可表示顺利、运气特别好；如果一位歌手或演员在演唱或表演方面获得成功并受到公众的欢迎称为“走红”；受到上司信任的人被称为“红人”。
3. 象征美丽和健康红色象征美丽主要用于年轻美貌的女子，如“红颜”、“红妆”、“红粉佳人”等，而“红扑扑”（主要用于小孩）、“红润”、“红光满面”等词语是指一个人身体健康，很有精神。

汉英语言中“红色”（Red）的词汇联想重合与碰撞立足详尽语料，从语言本身的因素和语言以外的因素（如民族因素和习俗因素）出发，发现“红色”这一颜色词在汉英文化中存在词汇联想重合与碰撞。
通过对比研究，可以揭示“红色”（red）一词在联想意义中所积淀的民族文化心理、汉英两种语言间的相互渗透、影响及碰撞。

人类的视觉系统生理上并无区别，对颜色的感知能力应该也没区别，因此对“红色（red）”这一颜色词的联想具有一定的共识，达到部分重合。
但每种语言都有其自身特有的体系，每个民族都有自己的思维方式、语言心理、价值观念和文化传统，两种语言间，任何一种颜色在内涵上完全对等的情况是极少见的。

二、“红色”在汉英文化中的词汇联想重合词汇联想重合是指某一词汇在两种语言中字面意义完全对等，在许多方面产生相同或相似的联系。
重合建立在人类文明共性的基础上，只是相对而言，不存在绝对的重合。
胡壮麟指出：“不论人们住在地球的什么地方，也不论他们操持什么语言，地球上的所有民族都在生理结构上和文化心理上享有许多共同之处，这些共同特点我们称之为生理共同性和文化共同性，正是这些生理上的共性才造成了两个不同民族文化上的共性。
”（胡壮麟，1993）。
“红色”和“red”的联想意义存在一定的重合部分，体现了汉英两种文化的共性。
红色是暖色，色彩学中称之为积极的色彩。
它是血的颜色，血能使肌肉的机能和血液循环加强；是冲动的色彩，革命中常用红色旗帜唤起人民的斗志；是太阳、火的颜色，易激发内心强烈的情感。

“红”在中国人心目中更多时候是喜庆、成功、吉利、忠诚和兴旺发达等意义的象征。
在西方文化中,红色却更多地用来表达残酷、 危险、狂热、激进、暴力、血腥等意。
