凉州词——王之涣

黄河远上白云间，一片孤城万仞山。

羌笛何须怨杨柳，春风不度玉门关。

Liangzhou Lines

The Yellow River reaches high beyond the clouds;

Amid the massive mountains lies the solitary of a town.

From a flute Willow Song wails forth, but why?

Beyond Jade Gate Pass, spring winds will never climb.

鸟鸣涧——王维

人闲桂花落，夜静春山空。

月出惊山鸟，时鸣春涧中

The Gully of Twittering Birds --- Wang Wei

Idly I watch the cassia petals fall;

Silent the night and empty the spring hills;

The rising moon startles the mountain birds;

Which twitter fitfully in the spring gully.

出塞——王昌龄

秦时明月汉时关，万里长征人未还。

但使龙城飞将在，不教胡马度阴山。

Far Away on the Frontier

As in the Han and the Qin Dynasties the same fortes and the same moon; How are men on the expedition able to come home soon?

Were the Flying General who’d struck the Dragon Town with fear

Still alive, the Hun steed’s have been kept beyond Yinshan—the frontier!

相思——王维

红豆生南国，春来发几枝。

劝君多采撷，此物最相思。

The Love Pea

The love peas flourish in a southern clime;

In spring with tender twigs they reach their prime.

’Tis wish’d thou’ll gathe r plenty of their seed —

The token best of love sincere indeed!

静夜思——李白

床前明月光，疑是地上霜。

举头望明月，低头思故乡。

In The Quiet of the Night

The ground before my bed presents a stretch of light,

Which seems to be a track of frost that’s pure and bright.

I raise my head: a lonely moon is what I see;

I stoop, and homesickness is crying loud in me!

山居秋暝——王维

空山新雨后，天气晚来秋。

明月松间照，清泉石上流。

竹喧归浣女，莲动下渔舟。

随意春芳歇，王孙自可留。

An Autumn Eve during My Stay in the Mounts

The rain has lent a new charm to the heights,

And autumn’s so real in the eve of day.

A serene moon through tall pines shifts its light,

A limpid spring on rough rocks winds its way.

A bustle from the bamboos does announce

The girls’ return from bleaching, and the leaves

Of lotus for a fishing boat make way,

Which seems to slide and bounce.

Though flowers may wither, and fall the leaves,

Princes would yearn to hither stay.

黄鹤楼——崔颢

昔人已乘黄鹤去，此地空余黄鹤楼。

黄鹤一去不复返，白云千载空悠悠。

晴川历历汉阳树，芳草萋萋鹦鹉洲。

日暮乡关何处是？烟波江上使人愁。

The Yellow Crane Tower

Astride his Yellow Crane th’ immortal has heaven-wards flown,

Leaving behind him the Yellow Crane Tower all alone.

The crane has gone for ages, ne’er to hith er come again;

The fleecy clouds have been expecting ever since in vain.

The Hanyang plain presents trees charming in the sun’s warm shine, The Parrot Isle competes by showing grass so lush and fine.

In the dusk of the evening where’s hometown there’s no w ay to know, Only the misty river’s seen in its saddening flow!

春晓——孟浩然

春眠不觉晓，处处闻啼鸟。

夜来风雨声，花落知多少？

Spring Morn

Awakening from slumber to a morn of spring,

I hear the birds everywhere beautifully sing.

The winds shattered and the rains splattered yester night:

How many flowers have dropped in a wretched plight?

But now I remember the night, the storm,

And I wonder how many blossoms were broken.

登鹳鹊楼——王之涣

白日依山尽，黄河入海流。

欲穷千里目，更上一层楼。

Ascending the Stork Tower

Ling’ ring is the setting sun about the mountain height,

Surging is the Yellow River eastward to the sea.

Aim higher and up the tower take another flight

To acquire a vision broader than one thousand
