want,wish,hope与expect用法辨析
want,wish,hope与expect这四个动词都可以表示愿望，意思为“想要”、“希望”、“期望” 等，但它们的用法有别。

一、want用于口语，表达迫切的愿望。

常用于：1、want+n./pron.想要某物e.g. I want a new pen.2、Want+to do sth.要做某事e.g. I want to buy the bike.3、Want+sb.to do sth.(需)要某人做某事 e.g. the teacher wants us to clean the classroom.4、Want+sth.done在要别人把某事作了。

e.g. He wants the work done at once.5、Sth+want+doin g/to be done某事需要做。

e.g. The windows wants cleaning/to be cleaned.[注意]want之后不能跟从句或“object+n.”结构作宾语。

二、wish表示客观上不太可能实现的希望或表示祝愿。

常用于：1、wish+to do sth.希望做某事 e.g. I wish to visit America someday.2、wish+sb. to d o sth.希望某人做某事e.g. His parents wishes him to be a scien tist in the future.3、wish+sb.+n,/adj.祝愿某人...... e.g. I wish you success!I wish you happy!4、wish+that clause但愿. .....(从句要用虚拟语气) e.g. I wish(that) I were young again.6、wish+sth.done希望(别人)做了某事e.g. I wish the work finished th is week.[注意]wish后跟宾语从句时要用虚拟语气。

三、hope强调主观上的“希望”。

常用于：1、hope+to do sth.希望做某事e.g. W e hope to visit Yan'an soon.2、hope+that clause希望...... e.g. Our foreign friends hope that they can jion the Ma y Day cele-brations in Beijing.[注意] hope后不能跟复合宾语。

四、expect强调客观上可能实现的“期望”，“期待”等。

常用于：1、expect+n./pron .盼望或期待某物e.g. He is expecting her letter.Don't expect to o much of him.2、expect+to do.sth.期望做某事e.g. She expects to go there next week.3、expect+sb.to do sth.盼望某人做某事。

e.g. He expects you to finish the work in time.4、e xpect+that clause期望/期待......e.g. I expected that he wou ld come one day. [注意] expect常用过去完成时表达过去未曾实现的期望；另外它后面不能接带有名词的复合宾语。

【Suggest用法小结】Suggest表示建议，用法如下：1) suggest+ n./pron. 或suggest+ n./pron. to+sb.，但不能说suggest sb sth eg: We suggest him the plan (Χ) We suggest the plan to him(√) 2）suggest doing sth eg He suggested going out for a walk. 注意：suggest 不可以加不定式，所以上面的句子不可以这样写：He sug gested to go out for a walk.(Χ) 3) suggest +(that )+主语+(should) do+sth 其中的should 可以省略eg: He suggested that you should go there tomorrow. =He suggested you go there tomorrow. 注意，不可以这样说：He suggested you to go there tomorrow. 也就是说suggest不可以加不定式的复合结构。

4）suggestion做主语时，其后也用这个结构：The suggestion is that +主语+should +do sth eg: His suggestion is that I should leave for Beijing immediately. I suggest our going to the park on Sunday. 我建议我们星期天去公园。

The dentist suggested that she (should) come another day. 牙医建议她改天再来。

1．我建议你带个帐篷（tent）。

I suggest you take a tent. 2．我建议你参观艾菲尔铁塔（Eiffel Tower）。

I suggest that you visit the Eiffel Tower. advise也有此意，比较它们用法的异同：1）都可接名词做宾语She suggested/ advised an early start. 她建议早一点出发。

We suggested/ advised a visit to the museum the next day. 我们建议明天去参观博物馆。

2）都可接动名词做宾语I suggested/ advised putting off the sports-meet. 我建议将运动会延期。

They suggested/ advised waiting until the proper time.他们建议（我们）等到恰当的时机才行动。

3）都可接that宾语从句，that从句用should+动词原形，should 可以省略。

She suggested/ advised that the class meeting （should）not be held on Saturday. 她建议班会不要在星期六举行。

We suggested/ advised that he （should）go and make an apology to his teacher. 我们建议他去向老师道歉。

4）advise可接动词不定式复合宾语I advised him to give up the foolish idea. =I suggested his/him giving up the foolish idea.我建议他
放弃那愚蠢的念头。

（suggest在口语里可接动名词的复合宾语）。

【advice的用法】 1. 表示“建议”、“劝告”、“忠告”等，是不可数名词，若表示一条或几条建议或劝告，要借用piece 这样的词。

如：This is a good piece of advice. 这是一条很好的建议。

2. 表示按照某人的意见做某事，一般要用介词on 或by。

如：We did the work on /by her advice. 我们按她的意见做此工作。

3. 表示提出建议或忠告，一般用动词give；表示向某人请教或征求意见，一般用动词ask (for)；表示接受意见或劝告，一般用动词take, follow,accept 等。

如：The old often give good advice to the young. 老年人常常对年轻人提出金玉良言。

You should ask for the teacher’s advice. /You should ask the teacher for advice. 你应该去征求老师的意见。

4. 其后若出现that 从句，通常用“should＋动词原形”这样的虚拟语气。

如：My advice is that he (should) give up smoking. 我建议他戒烟。
